Great experience. We went for the whale watching tour in March which is a great season for grey whales in the area. The boat ride is not for the weak. The ocean was windy and turbulent, we were warned about it before the tour. But, the tour in itself was great. They try to give as much information and do even try to go get the best sighting! Another excellent trip on the Telstar! Captain Sean and first mate, River, made this 'mom and kids' fishing trip perfect! Everyone on board either caught their limit of ling cod and a nice variety of rock fish - or was very close to hitting their limit. Had a great trip yesterday on the Telstar. First pot of crabs we brought up had 40 in it. The second pot had many and we ended up with 100 Crab in a total of four pots being pulled. Then we started rock cod fishing. The long cod were hot on this day. Everybody limited out on lings. Then we started fishing for bottom fish and we all hit it out of the park limiting out . Blues, blacks, etc. It was a great day fishing on the Telstar with Captain Sean. Look forward to booking again real soon. Thanks to all the deck hands who went above and beyond. Took a whale watching cruise with Sean in January, 2026. As he predicted, we saw California Grey Whales. It was amazing. Only seven passengers, very intimate cruise. Definitely recommend this tour. Also recommend taking Dramamine or similar. Sean though the sea was very quiet, not to us land lovers. Only one lady in our group was affected but she did appear miserable. read more

These guys are great! They really know what they are doing. Quite frankly, if you don't catch a fish, it's probably your fault. Work as a team with the rest of the people on the boat, help each other out and listen to what these guys tell you. We've gone out twice with them and had a ton of fun both times. We had to miss this year, but we will be back next summer. Make sure you tip the crew. They work their butts off!! read more

Wonderful , educational, fun fishing trip with Shawn and crew (Casey & River) yesterday. Everyone caught their limit of 10 rockfish- Shawn moved to several different spots to assure this. I learned so much as this was my first fishing experience. Shawn checked in with me several times because of this. This is a great charter if you're a chain smoker. Half the people on the boat constantly smoked cigarettes. It was impossible to get fresh air. It was the first time I've ever gotten sick on a charter, and I think it had more to do with the amount of nicotine I was inhaling and not the motion. I've never experienced this on a charter before, but if I ever go again I will ask if the crew has smokers and or if they allow smoking. Although they seemed to encourage it, but I guess for many people chain smoking is part of fishing. read more

My husband and I went whale watching with this crew on Presidents' Day. The captain did spend a lot of time encouraging everyone to reschedule due to choppy water but said he would take out whoever wanted to. In the end there were about 10 of us who felt brave and we were definitely rewarded! There were lots of whales out there and one took a dive maybe 50 feet in front of us. We saw its whole back rise out of the water, with a tail flip and all. Truly spectacular! The captain and his deckhand did a great job following the whales and getting us as close as they could. The waves were high and my husband and I definitely started getting a little queasy after nearly 2 hours rolling around out there so be sure to take your dramamine but it was completely worth it. When you're done you can have lunch next door at Sea Pal. We didn't have the stomach for it but I've heard their fish n chips are amazing FYI we went on the 10am trip and by the time we were ready to head in the whales had gone pretty quiet read more

Most of my family became sick, half still fought through and caught fish.The crew was all over paper towels for wiping our mouths or buckets if in the cabin.
