Two of my friends and I experienced the Russian River Railbikes in Cloverdale, Saturday, May 30 and had a great time. Weather was perfect, we took the 11:00AM ride, the staff/volunteers at the Railbike adventure were wonderful. We had a blast on the Russian River Railbikes. This was something that I have been wanting to do and we were so glad that we went this weekend! The railbikes seat up to 4 people. Russian River Railbikes is part of the Golden Gate Railroad Museum, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to maintain, restore and run historically significant railroad equipment from the San Francisco Bay area. The guides are all volunteers from the Golden Gate Railroad Museum. The guides were friendly, helpful, and informative. You will get somewhat of a workout, although this is not strenuous. This is an activity that you can really do at any age and they are kid friendly. One of the guides stated that they have had someone in a car seat before (they have seat belts on them similar to a car) and a couple in their 80's has gone multiple times and they arrange ahead of time to have two guides on the railbike to help with pedaling. This truly is a great adventure for all ages! It's about 1 1/2 or two hours total and you will pass by a vineyard and farm. You will also go through a tunnel and stop half way where you will get out and stretch your legs. You can relax at a shaded table, dip your toes in the Russian River, or view a collapsed tunnel at this half way point. You will also have the option when you book this to purchase lunch ahead of time that you can enjoy at the half way point if you would like. It's recommended that you wear comfortable clothes, wear sunscreen, and bring any water and snacks with you on the railbike. We each brought a water bottle that came in very handy. You will have plenty of time afterwards to explore Cloverdale. An all around great experience that I highly recommend! read more

Three of us joined the Railbike crew on Sunday. It was a beautiful day made even better by the Railbike crew. It was a blast, very scenic, but not too hard. Kinda like riding a stationary bike. We ordered sandwiches which were delivered to the half way spot for a fun picnic. Walked a bit along the Russian River before starting our way back to the Cloverdale depot. It was a great adventure. So fun! The Rail Bikes seat 4, which adds to the fun of riding with friends and family. Pedaling was easy, the bikes are very light and the railway very flat. I wish we could have ridden further up the Russian River valley, but the tunnel collapse will not allow that. At the turnaround spot we stretched out legs by walking over to the tunnel, checking that out, and then down to the river's edge. We cooled our toes and skipped stones. Some travelers took advantage of the Box Lunch that could be ordered ahead of time. The sandwiches looked great. It was only a two hour adventure so there was plenty of day left to explore Cloverdale and stop into Starbucks for a refresher. The staff were friendly and very good at helping the guests and safely getting us across the one city street on the route. Traveling by rail into lush back country was a blast. Not long enough to be a significant workout, but long enough to be a fun adventure. read more

Beautiful day on the rail bikes. Unknown to me this is a non-profit, that uses all volunteers to raise money for the railroad museum. Lovely spot where we stopped to turn around. All ages can do this it is a nice easy peddeling excercise through trees and vinyards. read more

Rail bikes are so much fun. We went with a group..4 people to a bike. Since it's summer time & hot..the best time to ride is the 1st or 2nd ride of the day. We started about 9:15am. Great scenery..the guides are very informative. The ride itself was about an hour each way. We took about a 30 minute break while the bikes were turned around. Took a short hike. Don't bother the bees & they won't bother you..we want to go again..if your not in shape it can be a challenging ride...no motor assist on these bike..its all your pedal power. Thru a tunnel..over a bridge..definitely a fun ride. It's affordable for a family. They have t shirts & hats for sale. read more

This was a fun trip! The guides were very knowledgeable about the rail history in the area. The ride was easy, not very physically taxing. Just about everyone should be able to handle the physical effort needed. I hope to bring more of my family back and do this trip again with a bigger group. read more

We were at a family vacation in the area, and decided to give this experience a try. We were 4 people and our slot was 3pm on a 100F day... Hot but it was worth it! To start with the staff identified we did an error in our reservation, and said they'll refund us - earned our trust immediately! As for the experience itself - the carts they have were very comfortable and paddeling was just fine (note: we are not in shape at all and made it). The views are nice - you start with some highway views but soon they switch into nature,pass through a tunnel, vineyard, and other scenes you cannot see from the HW101. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. It was fun activity for our family and we recommend it. read more

I had the opportunity to ride the rail bikes on Saturday the 6th. It was an invigorating and beautiful romp through the countryside. Riding the rails with the wind in my face and seeing the poppies growing along the tracks was pure joy. This will become a very popular event in Cloverdale. There are a few bugs to work out but overall, the Staff was very helpful and accommodating. read more
