2/23/24- Captain Tim and his crew James and Josh were all fantastic. Booked a Whale watch tour for our family of six. Beautiful day, high but soft swells, and the whales! OMG! We saw so many, even a synchronized, double whale fluke dive, several single flukes. Two full breaches right in front of us and lots of spouts!!! Can't say enough about the helpful crew James and Josh. Our every need was met. Helpful hands getting from bow to stern. Captain Tim skippered the boat with excellence. Smooth sailing all the way. Absolutely terrible whale watching cruise today. Captain never introduced himself and never apologized for leaving us sitting in the rockiest of waters ever. 12 of 21 people were throwing up and this captain couldn't find a whale until we were finally ending this terrible cruise. Strangely, the captain left the boat between swells for 10 minutes at a time as guests were puking again. It was just mean. This was a 2.5 hour hellish ride. Would never recommend and believe they should give at least a partial refund. read more

We had an absolutely miserable day with this charter company. We were on the afternoon fish, and heard the water might be choppy. Since there were 22 passengers on our cruise, including several very young children, we figured it would be okay, or the caption would not go out. Wrong! The next 6 hours were horrific. The swells battered the boat non-stop and a majority of the passengers spent most of their time throwing up, trying not to fall down, or trying to find something to hold on to so they would not be bruised by the violent rocking of the boat. To their credit the crew did they best they could to salvage some fishing, but I and many others simply sat the entire day, unable to get up to walk around or use the bathroom. My request for a refund was ignored. Just beware if you choose to use this company. read more

Our final tally was limits of rocks, lings, and crabs on the Sea Hawk with Captain Tim. Folks pulled in some nice, big lings and some huge vermillions. I also somehow got a rock sole. Whale watching was an amazing experience. We saw many whales with a great, knowledgeable crew. We got all kinds of tid bits about the area and when people started feeling sick they did their best to help them through it. The boat was clean and the guys did their best to make sure we had a full sea experience. We worried our small kid would be a burden but they made her a part of the show and left her with trinkets and treats. My husband had sea sickness and they took great care of us. I went out on an afternoon salmon-fishing trip. I enjoyed the friendliness of the staff, but it didn't take long for the informality of the operation to make things a little uncomfortable. The gentleman whose job it was to keep hooks in the water, took the time to chew out his teenaged grandson who was helping with the operations about matters which were partly work-related but clearly personal in nature. He did this in front of the entire group of passengers, despite the fact that there were places he could have taken the young man to do it privately. There were also a number of personal phone calls made, which just seemed unprofessional to me. For the most part I felt that the operation was run well enough. We got tangled in seaweed several times and at the end of the 5 hours, only one person had even gotten a nibble. She did catch the fish, but the other dozen of us went home empty-handed, but such is the nature of fishing adventures. The following are a list of things that I don't think are out of character or inappropriate for a fishing boat, but that folks who may never have been out on one might like to know ahead of time: ***Expect to get dirty. The boat smells like fish and you will too. ***Do not expect to be comfortable. There is very limited seating, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as sitting aggravates motion sickness. ***The restroom is not quite as wide or deep as a small porta-potty. The toilet is short and the seat comes off easily. It doesn't flush nor is there any place to wash hands. It's hard to stay on the toilet and even harder to get off. ***The walkways are narrow, so if you move around the boat (like to the restroom), expect to stumble a lot. ***You are on deck at all times, so there is no shade other than whatever hat you might bring. ***Take motion sickness pills at least an hour before your trip. About half of the people on our trip vomited at least once. If you begin to feel sick, don't sit or lean. Try to ride the waves. I don't know why that works but it seems to. Things to Bring: ** Snacks and water ** A hat ** A jacket ** Sun block ** Lip balm ** Hand sanitizer ** Hand lotion I think if you arrive with the above considerations in mind and don't mind the minor lapses in professionalism, you'll have a great trip. read more

Great operation! Capt.Tim runs a tight ship, far as I could see. This was our second time on board the Sea Hawk; we also did a salmon trip a few years ago. Despite the Captain's best efforts (they call it FISHING for a reason ), we went home empty handed. I caught a slight buzz and a sunburn, lol, HE caught a beautiful silver that had to be released. Gotta follow the regs! Today, I caught my limit on salmon, with 2 others being brought on board as well. They're just not biting. No one's fault. The deckhands are friendly salty dogs, haha. Don't know how else to describe them. We had James and Dennis. They were both very helpful. For those whining about the cost of lead weights....do you think they grow on trees? Lol. Yes, they SINK to the bottom of the ocean, but not every time you touch the pole. That's laughable. I actually landed a salmon today, sinker intact! Most of the time though, they'll sink. Getting strikes, tangled in kelp or jellies, or getting tangled in another's line....ALL those can cause your sinkers to release and sink. My second salmon hit hard enough to cause it to release. I'm not crying. My husband caught kelp, ended up in a tangle, caught kelp (again) and jellies (again) and he didn't lose one, so he didn't pay at all for the use of them. They tell you up front the cost, as well as the cost if the fillet or steak them. On the same topic, but touching on the crew's professionalism, integrity and trustworthiness: one deckhand was busy checking bait on my husband's rod, we started chatting, haha, ended up totally joking with him and briefly distracted him. After the line was out, he said 'I'm not happy with that' and reeled it back in. In the process of all that, it got tangled, causing my husband's lead weight to release and sink. I offered James, the deckhand, 'a chip' to cover it, but he refused, insisting it was his fault. These guys aren't out to rip you off. They're doing their job. Yep, there's some drinking (VERY MINOR) and smoking, plus a little music . It's pretty much a man's world. Respect it. Don't try to change it. Some things need to be left alone. Remember that you're fishing....not catching. We respect them SO much so that Capt. Tim scrambled all day to put together ANOTHER trip for us for tomorrow! I was especially impressed with how kind they were to children, making them feel very involved. Went out with Capt Tim and James on Saturday for a whale watching tour out of Noyo Harbor. Had a GREAT time! James was awesome with the guests and I really enjoyed talking with him throughout the trip. The boat looks a little old, but it was great for a 2 hour tour. They had a bucket with ice and fresh crab for us to munch on which was AWESOME! Yummy yummy and such a nice touch. We saw many whales and were pretty close to them. I got GREAT pics and Capt Tim ended up staying out a little longer as we were able to watch two different sets of Grey Whales mating. Quite the experience! If you are looking for a "high brow" boat instead of competent staff on a very functional boat and a good time (you can bring beer on the boat...big +), then you may want to seek others, but I prefer good people and good times! read more

Paid over $1k for our group of 11 adults for rock fishing and no discount. all of us are from s.f area, thinking that will getting more, better and bigger fish, but total catch for the 5hr from 7-12pm for the group was less than 30lbs of fish. half of us go home empty handed or small rock fish less than a lb each. another group of 7 on the boat also getting no fish. No extension of time even people are getting no fish. Avoid Sea Hawk and go somewhere else people or you will regret it. read more

We saw a LOT of whales--several dozen, at least. We even followed a group of 6 as they repeatedly spouted together. The staff was cool, the boat was decent sized. Went salmon fishing in June and the one person (a teenaged boy), who was the only one puking his guts out, was the only one to catch a fish. Not the fault of the charter though, of course. However, they did have the decision to change over to Cod fishing if no one was catching Salmon, but three hours into it, that kid caught the Salmon and we couldn't fish for Cod. Salmon weren't biting and they were quick to switch us up to ensure we were going home with fish- which we did, tons! Big shout out to Charlie who bobbed my rod for me when I tapped out from sea sickness to lay down! He ensured I reeled one in, which was most definitely appreciated! Captain Tim and the deck hands were great- friendly, engaging, and cheerful. Tim worked at keeping us on the fish, and the hands (a couple of really energetic salty dogs) ran their butts off to help with tangled lines, snarled reels, and the poor dude in another group who puked for about 3 hours. In particular, Richard really went out of his way to give our son extra attention as it was his birthday. Capt Tim also pointed out our son's birthday to the entire boat before we set out for the afternoon. We pulled in our limit on Ling cod and other rock fish- again, with Richard working hard to help our son to entice the bigger Ling cod- I think our kid got 2 of the 3 biggest fish taken on our trip. All in all, a great time, great crew, clean orderly boat, and the price was actually much less than I had expected based on the rates listed on their website. We'll definitely be going out with these guys on our next trip! read more

My brother and I went out on August 10th, and while the sea was decently rough, and people were sick we still managed to catch a decent amount of Rock Fish and Ling Cod. The Captain can't control weather and while better conditions would have been desirable I cant fault him for that. He did his best to get us the best fishing possible. Went out for a gift for my boyfriend and his dad. We had a great time until the boat stopped and 3 of us got sick. The crew was attentive and help us at every turn. Since have of us were sick they helped us by telling us when a fish was on. The one crew member smoking was thankfully not near us but on the bow but when he was it made the sickness worse. We had our limit of 10 rock fish each cause that is what I had paid for. No ling cod for us. We caught them but just not big enoug to keep. All in all it was awesome. Only taking a star away because I think the boat was over crowed. Crew cleaned the fish after with percision and quickness. While making jokes about why they were missing finger tips . We go on a charter fishing trip every year for the last 15 years and this was the first time I was disappointed :( when we have left Noyo Harbor on other charters we have always gone 6 miles outside the Harbor, well this time we only went 3/4 -1 mile outside the Harbor. Every other year for the last 15 years we have limited out on fish, this year everyone on the boat ( overbooked 21 people) did not even catch 5 fish each. The most fish caught by one person was 4. Deck hands were great and very tentative. I feel the captain was looking to save fuel and did not put the effort out except kept trolling the same area with small or limited fish. Very disappointed and will not return on this boat and may look into Trinidad area as friends went out the same day in Trinidad and limited out and pulled crab pots. Thanks Capt Tim. We reserved a spot and started driving with the kids, but then got stuck on Hwy 1 because of road problems. We called and told them we would be 30 minutes late and they should go without us (there were other people on the boat). Our kids were heartbroken. Then Cpt Tim's crew called back and told us about another local boat going 2 hours later. Hurray! We got to do it and we saw tons of whales. Tim, I know that when you go fishing you don't always expect to catch fish, that's why my first inclination was to go rock fishing where chances are better, since my wife and I don't get many opportunities to leave work. Today on your boat, the trip didn't work out well for us. My wife had a salmon on the line and was reeling it in when one of your deck hands (the one who carried the big fish up the ramp in the photos I sent you) said "give me that rod". He took it from her hands and immediately lost the fish, since he wasn't reeling in but was trying to stick the tip of the rod in the water to avoid another angler. Then he said to her "I didn't know you had a fish on". Too little, too late; probably because of the way he handled the rod, he had broken the leader above the hooks. My wife is convinced "ramp guy" disrespected her because she's a woman and didn't know how to get out of the real fishermen's way. Instead of help and guidance for landing the fish, she got dumped. She gave her sinker token to the other deck hand and he later returned it, saying he felt bad because a faulty leader had broken and she shouldn't have to pay for that. Later, when I had a strike and my leader broke, he did the same thing, a client-centered, class act in my opinion. You should try to keep him, he's an asset to your business (but buy some new leader material or practice making good knots). Meanwhile, "ramp guy" comes along at the end of the trip collecting tokens and cash. When my wife and I each handed him 3 tokens, he basically accused us of lying, saying he knows we each lost at least one sinker. No class, no judgment, just the kind of employee you don't want to represent your business. He turned what still could have been a pleasant, if not totally satisfying day into a nasty experience. I discussed the day's activities with the people at Sportsman's RV since they were the ones who recommended you. They were not favorably impressed, nor were any of the other campers we talked with. My husband and I took our two adult sons and their girlfriends on a trip to Fort bragg. They wanted to try the Whale watching. After we boarded the boat a lady came up and asked my son and his girlfriend for a beer. She was told they did not have a beer, however the lady (nancy) stated she wanted one, the lady mistook the kids drinking monster drinks as being beer. When they sat one of the drinks down to put the gloves on the woman Nancy stole their drink and went into the cabin to drink it. When my husband told the first mate he said oh sorry she has MS and it messes with her mind. How stinking crazy is that? Instead of having nice memories they have some crazy drunk woman thief to remember on our family trip.....watch out for the woman on the boat, if she can blatantly steal a drink what else is she stealing? read more

My husband and I recently went on a whale watching trip and had an excellent time. Our Capt. pointed out many things including seals and a rare sighting of albatross. We found so many whales, trailing behind them and waiting for them to spout and breech. We even saw a full whale tail! The first mate Buster was great, so informative and helpful, and very polite. We highly recommend this vessel for your sea-faring adventures and are returning in June for a fishing adventure with the whole family.
