Ledford House in Albion delivered one of the most spectacular sunset views on the Mendocino coast on this trip. The view from the deck was absolutely unforgettable and worth the visit alone. The food and service were solid overall, though nothing particularly stood out... except for the bread pudding, which was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. The menu also had rabbit, which everyone talked about but no one at our table actually ordered. Great atmosphere, memorable setting, and a perfect place to watch the sun drop into the ocean. The service series is impeccable the bread they give you isn't just normal bread. Some of it has in it which keeps the bright nice and moist. Fine value Stopped by for din after a long day of hiking. We couldn't resist the $35 3 course. We were welcomed with complimentary champagne as we were celebrating a special occasion. Started off with a caesar salad which was classic. Went well with their crusty bread. The main was a mushroom lasagne which was done perfectly - the al dente pasta loaded up with savory mushrooms and golden crispy and cheesy on top. Had to get another basket of bread to soak up the sauce. The dessert was a chocolate pomegranate pudding, which was decent. The decour is classy yet cozy with a great view. We moved FT to the Sonoma coast from Silicon Valley and have been happy to have found a few solid and very reliable local restaurants we can count on for a solid meal. The Ledford House is one of our regular "go to" spots when we are hanging out in Mendocino and need a French food fix. Nice couple run the place,...and the menu is always focused on classic standbys like their excellent seared duck breast, the lamb shank, cassoulet, roasted rabbit and starters like their excellent seared tartar. Corkage is a fair $25 but you can still get some very solid local wines for a fair price by the glass or the whole bottle - plus the desserts are also solid - and all fairly priced and generously portioned! Our unplanned early dinner Sunday night en route home was delicious as usual with affable service and tasty fare. Thank goodness for Ledford House ! This place is great. We've been coming here for a couple of decades and it has always lived up to our memories. We had reservations and got a lovely window seat. We had the best server. She was fun and helpful and always there when we had questions or anything at all. The ambiance here is fantastic. Very classy and top notch in all aspects. What's not to love about THE Ledford house from the pastoral location to the welcoming and laidback atmosphere. This place has a chill vibe. The food is five plus stars no matter what you choose. Ask your waiter for recommendations. The homemade bread and olive oil are scrumptious. Add the roasted garlic clove and you are on the way. We went with the soufflé and lamb and luckily saved room for dessert. Patience dear readers see the photo below. We loved our waitress and if there is one bit of advice I'd offer is not to have the other staff continually asking if our meal is still good. Having a bit more privacy is preferable. I discovered what could well be my favorite restaurant along the Mendocino Coast while staying at Point Arena. Forty five minutes north of Point Arena and 15 minutes south of Mendocino in the town of Albion is the Ledford House. I was so impressed with everything that hit our table, that we polished off everything from the bread to the escargot and finally both the halibut and ahi fish specials paired with beautiful views. Came here for Valentine's Day and loved the experience. The restaurant is quaint inside and intimate, but not stuffy. The food value is great - ordered their $35 Bistro special that came with beet/carrot salad, rabbit lasagna, and crème dessert. For a total of $140 we got an order of oysters, escargot, my bistro special, duck, and an added dessert. That's quite a deal coming from Bay Area prices! Moreover, service was great. This restaurant is very warm and charming . Our waiter made us feel comfortable and relaxed . Excellent food. The Steak au Poivre was so tender and flavorful . The beet salad was flavorful and a great start to the meal . For dessert a had the bread pudding with a very light bourbon sauce . One of the best meals I have ever had . We have been here a few times now and I really enjoy it. It is a little over 10 minute drive from the town of Mendocino. The bistro special is a really good deal. The menu changes daily and is $35 for a 3 course meal. Tony the owner/maître d' is so kind and welcoming. We've celebrated birthdays here and it's always acknowledged. The homemade bread they give you is amazing. The duck pate is delicious. I enjoy a lot of the sauces for the dishes like the steak au poivre. The view is spectacular. We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a bad experience. First parking lot was not well lit. Entering and Exiting was confusing at night. Second, our server was robotic and was not friendly. I had to wave her down to order while she was more attentive to other non Asian guests. Third, after having really good French food in San Francisco , downtown Saratoga , Carmel, I have to say the food here was bland tasting and lacked flavor. Came here after a long day of touring the area and are so glad we stopped by. Tim was an incredible server and everyone was very attentive. Food came out quickly and was so delicious. The lamb shank fell off the bone and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Ended our dinner with the chocolate pudding cake which I couldn't recommend more. My fiance went here a few weeks ago and the experience left quite a bit to be desired, especially for the price point. We started with oysters (which were cut poorly and therefore still super attached, and they also had a fair bit of mossy growth on the bottom) - we were really put off by these, so we politely asked to send them back. The owner was then brought over to our table, and he took a pretty frustrated tone with us immediately. After we explained our concern, he said the employee who was handing the oysters would get a talking to and was new. This made us uncomfortable- we did not want to get anyone in trouble or anything, we just didn't want to eat the oysters! Our server treated us like we were problem customers the rest of the night, and it made us somewhat upset. Then, the duck breast was really unevenly cooked and the gnocchi wasn't very flavorful. We went here to celebrate our engagement (we had just gotten engaged that morning) and unfortunately the whole dinner was soured by both the food and the service/treatment we received. The view was absolutely stunning, but there are plenty of other better restaurants nearby with nice-ish views as well. read more

Nestled above the rugged coastline, the immaculate grounds were a serene prelude to the experience, with the sound of the ocean setting the mood. Inside, the dining room was cozy, welcoming, and just lively enough to feel celebratory without drowning out conversation. The staff? Simply fantastic--knowledgeable, courteous, and, most importantly, genuinely enjoying their work, which added an effortless joy to the evening. The meal opened with bread so good it deserved its own standing ovation. A mix of light and dark slices, it struck the perfect balance of crispy crust and pillowy-soft center. Even the green olives--normally not our first choice--disappeared from the table in record time, a testament to their irresistible flavor. But the roasted garlic appetizer stole the early show. Perfectly caramelized and swimming in olive oil and herbs de Provence, it paired flawlessly with crostini and chèvre, each bite a luxurious, finger-licking indulgence. The duck entrée transported me back to my time in France. Tender, succulent, and elevated by a dried cherry cabernet reduction, it was a masterpiece, expertly complemented by garlicky mashed potatoes and crisp, vibrant vegetables. Each bite was a harmonious blend of richness and refinement. Then there was the filet mignon, a showstopper in its own right. For dessert, we opted for the house-made grapefruit sorbet with a lavender cookie--a brilliantly refreshing finale. We enjoyed an excellent meal with a beautifully streaked sunset which seemed to glow red forever. I opted for the Bistro special which was a thick juicy pork chop and mushroom bread pudding. It was accompanied by very delicious beet salad with goat cheese. So tasty! To finish it off, the special included dark chocolate mousse, which had an almost fudge consistency. There was no way I could finish all that, so I took a good part of my dinner home, while my wife helped polish off the mousse. She had the filet mignon and said it was very good and cooked to perfection without having it cut butterfly style. She usually sends it back for more cooking, so that says a lot! Not worth our time. Stopped in to enjoy a birthday meal with my husband. Was looked up and down and walked to the farthest table in the back of the bar past a number of open other tables - told the host (who turned out to be the owner) no thanks - if you have tables later tonight we will come back for a view table. As I have dinned on steak the prior 2 evenings made sure to ask about the special chicken - the host said yes it was on the menu - therefore knew that was what we desired. Came back for our 7:30pm reservation. We were not greeted but the host starting walking away towards a table - I said wait - I see the chicken is off your board outside and without turning he says "it's out" my husband said "we are leaving" and we did. The host/owner could care less. No problem - lots of other owners do care and we are off to find one that does ! We were visiting the area for a couple days and wanted to try out a place we hadn't visited before. Ledford house was pretty close by so we drove over only to find that there were no more tables available so we gladly took a seat at the bar. That was the best thing that could've happened. We had an unobstructed view of the ocean, sunset, are fantastic bartenders, mixing abilities. The food was practically perfect. We got the fillet that was one of the best steaks I've ever had, which is saying a lot. The appetizer of roasted garlic reminded us that we really need to start doing this more often because it was delicious. and one of the biggest surprises was the eggplant Wellington filled with eggplant portobello mushroom and I believe Guyere cheese, all in a delicious puff pastry. Even the side of yellow squash was great. We had great conversations with strangers/ now friends . The bartender was super fun and had my wife try all sorts of different wines. Would highly recommend not to come here and just go into Mendocino town for literally any other restaurant this place is overrated the food just simply was too salty way too salty. I had to send my beef Wellington back and it wasn't even a real Wellington. It was a ground beef Wellington, which should just never be a thing. My friend ordered the mushroom ginger soup, raw and baked Pacific oysters and steak tartare. The soup tasted medicinal and broth was too salty. The beet salad and oysters were acceptable, yet eminently forgettable. The fish stew could hardly be called a "stew," as the rockfish arrived mixed with some forgettable vegetables in a salty watery broth. The steak tartare was a gristly mess, barely edible. We didn't bother with dessert since the first two courses for each of us was an epic fail. The best part of the meal was the brown bread with the olive oil. I won't go back to this restaurant. There are so many superior options in the area. This place simply has BAD FOOD! The Zagat rating in the lobby is from 2014. Clearly, it has plummeted downhill since then. read more
