    Uni carbonara
    Julie N.

A gem of a restaurant in a jewel of a property. We stayed at the sacred rock inn and ate here on our first night. We came in March, so it was an off season and fairly quiet (there was only one other couple dining that night). The staff were wonderful and the food was top notch (we had eaten at Atelier Crenn the night prior and honestly this meal was more memorable than Atelier Crenn). We started with the Parker house rolls with seaweed butter, which the husband loved. Octopus was tender and well seasoned. Uni carbonara was unique and tasty, although the uni flavor was quite subtle when mixed it into the noodles - wish I had tried the uni straight up first. The duck was absolutely delicious- perfectly cooked and seasoned. The husband got the short ribs, which were fall off the bone tender. Overall we really loved this place and can't wait to come back!

The best parker roll ever. The soft and buttery roll went so well with the seaweek butter. Tajin made the corn pasta a little too sour for my liking. The strawberry dessert was refreshing.

    Small but beautiful place !

Amazing food and wanna be Michelin star restaurant. Service and ambience were first class. Lobster ravioli was the winner as they used reduced lobster shell broth to increase the lobster flavor. This area is going to be a hot spot for the wealthy as nearby is a Michelin restaurant in this lovely region south of Mendocino.

Come for the unbeatable ocean views! From their garden patio, you can sip wine while enjoying sweeping views of the rugged Pacific coast. I stopped by for a late Sunday lunch, just before 2pm. I ordered their BBQ pork belly bao buns that come with a side of french fries. The bao were a little heavy on the BBQ sauce for my liking- you couldn't really taste anything else due to the saturation. However, their fries were solid! If weather permits, I would recommend taking advantage of their beautiful garden patio!

Words cannot describe what an amazing (pretty life altering) experience my fiancé and I had here. From beginning to end, I thought I was at a Michelin star restaurant. Greenwood restaurant is right next to Sacred Rock Inn (where we are staying) with an intimate 22 seat seating where ingredients are locally sourced. The menu is carefully curated by Chef Ryan Seal who is an absolute beast. You need to make a reservation!! While you await your table, you are offered a complimentary champagne which was delicious. There is a wine professional there named Natasha who helps you find the right wine for your preference and food pairing. A majority of the wine is also locally sourced from nearby wineries which was super cool. Janelle was our server and she was the absolute best and was super attentive. Now onto the dinner menu.. y'all. Here is what we ordered and we loved them all. And the best part was that Chef Ryan Seal would come out and explain each individual dish to us, making the experience so personal and engaged. -Parker House Rolls: Sourdough with seaweed butter (that butter was craaaaaazy I can't stop thinking about it) -Heirloom tomato salad: My fiancé loved this and said the tomatoes were the best he's ever had. -Cacio e Pepe: Holy smokes. This blew our mind. My fiancé and I agreed that this dish tiered a little higher than the others but maaaan. My mouth is watering thinking about it! It was perfectly salted and honestly all of the dishes were perfectly salted like I can't explain it. -Mendocino black cod: The cod literally melts in your mouth, paired with Yukon gold potato foam (which also blew my mind like foam mashed potato WHAT). The cod is locally sourced and I have never tasted cod like this before. -Honey glazed duck breast: I've had duck many times before but man, this duck breast also melts in your mouth in the best way. You would think it would be a bit tougher but jeeeeez. Chef Ryan knows what he's doing yall!! -Chai tea panna cotta: Super unique flavors, I love chai and this was the perfect light dish to end the night. All in all, I loved loved loved my experience here and highly highly recommend stopping by and checking it out if you're in the area. It was a truly unforgettable night. I can't stop thinking about each dish hahah. We already have plans of visiting again if we are back in Elk/Mendocino!

Very delicious food, beautiful plating and fair prices. If you pass by Elk, it's a must come. Thank you Chef Ryan Seal for a light lunch. Super happy we found this place. Just note that it closes at 2pm before dinner service. The little gem salad was super fresh with a light vinaigrette. The pumpkin soup was pure pumpkin, little or no cream and only slightly savory, more refreshing. The rolls are a show stopper and pull apart with texture a little like puff pastry. And the seaweed butter is just a unique flavor not to miss.

    My amazing breakfast sandwich!

Our family of 2 adults and 1 child had an excellent brunch here! The food was great, the service was wonderful, and the setting was beautiful. I loved my breakfast sandwich, and my husband enjoyed his chicken and waffles. We also really appreciated the fact they were able to provide a side of bacon and a side of scrambled eggs for our 5 year old. Our Americanos and my daughter's fresh squeezed orange juice were also very good. The staff was very warm, welcoming, attentive, and prompt. We felt well taken care of. The restaurant is modern and spacious, and is within the gorgeous grounds of the Sacred Rock Inn. We are so glad to have discovered this spot and would love to return!

The food, service, and dining experience were all stellar. My partner and I had the pear salad, uni carbonara, honey glazed duck, and cod for dinner. We were very impressed with how well the dishes were plated and cooked. They all tasted delicious as well. The chef would explain how each dish was prepared, and it's clear he cares a lot about the food!

What an amazing restaurant. Not only is the food delicious, but the staff and chef are great. This place takes great care of its diners and will 100% be coming back!

The food and service was impeccable! Every dish was beautifully plated and our server was sweet and knowledgable, recommending dishes for us. First time I've tried seaweed butter and loved it. Chef Ryan and his team are amazing and we can't wait to go back.

We had the best Thanksgiving dinner! Food were served as if it's Michelin Star! I'm telling youuuuuu. Chef is so nice, servers are very friendly!

Killer Wines, Killer Prices, Killer Vibe…read more Mendo Vino is where Mendocino's wine scene really shines. The wine selection is absolutely fire. This place contains all the local gems, thoughtfully picked, and honestly some of the best around. When I stopped by, Michael was so nice and welcoming. He actually took the time to chat with me, listened to what I liked, and helped me find exactly the right wine no pressure, just genuine advice. Seriously, it felt like having a friend guide me through the shelves and I went home with just the right flavor of wine. And now to the prices. Shockingly good. You get amazing quality without having to empty your wallet. The vibe is cool, chill, and totally unpretentious, perfect for kicking back with a glass and soaking in that Mendocino magic. If you want great wine and a friendly, relaxed spot, Mendo Vino is where it's at.

We asked if they did tastings, and he said no, you usually only buy bottles here. We asked if we could try a specific wine by the glass, but was immediately told no, and that specific bottle is too cheap to offer glasses. The experience was not pleasant. We drank our glass of wine and left. He wasn't even inside the bar to tell us about the wine, either. He spent most of the time on his phone outside and smoking a cigarette. Needless to say, we felt uncomfortable and disappointed.

Our favorites were: + Broiled oysters with bone marrow butter, Parmesan crema, and breadcrumb: although I'm not usually a huge fan of oysters, I did enjoy these particular ones! + Lemon cream pie with tangerine, lemon curd, brown butter graham, citrus marigold Chantilly: we split one slice of this pie, but I could've eaten a few more slices of the pie by myself (if my stomach had space left). Perfect ending to the meal. + Primavera panisse: crispy chickpea fritters topped with a variety of greens and flower petals. + Yuzu marigold kombucha (Wilder x Petite Percebes collaboration): this was a refreshing, lightly sweet complement to the heavier dishes of the meal. We also tried the cassoulet (which had roasted chicken thigh, Roundman's garlic sausage, pork belly, Heirloom beans - a heartier meaty dish); and the potato chowder with oyster mushrooms, spring greens, and wild nettle pistou (we loved the mushrooms in it). This spot is worth stopping by!

Everyone was a huge fan of their meals. I loved my sandwich, the bread was absolutely delicious. Also was a huge fan of those mushrooms they used! We ended up leaving with a fresh baked loaf of bread when we left too for home. Service was great, food was on point, and loved the vibe they had going. Would love to come back to see some music one of these days.

But the…read moremost delicious is following the winding road through Anderson Valley wine region which is replete with wineries and eateries along the entire stretch of this Northern California appellation. And towards the northern extreme of the valley are the spectacular vineyards of Roederer Estates and the home of some of the best sparkling wines in Northern California. Situated atop a hill with a commanding view of the vineyards, valley, and surrounding mountains, Roederer has a beautifully modern tasting room and new outdoor patio with abundant seating and umbrellas for shade. On the day we visited it was 81F outside in the sun, but thanks to the natural air conditioning of a Pacific breeze from the coast, it was super comfortable on the deck. Roederer has everything from traditional tastings of various house wines (mixed vintages, estate reserve, and flights) to wines by the glass to bottles if you are in the mood. Prices vary by vintage, but begin around $18 for a glass and go up. Tastings begin at $35. Bottles begin at $40. Members of wine clubs receive an approximate 20% discount on bottles and tastings. In addition to wines, a limited but nicely curated selection of nibbles are available (think Marcona almonds, olives, prosciutto and cheeses, and duck rillettes, but if you're feeling indulgent they also offer a variety of Tzar Nikolai caviar options that can break the bank). We ordered the duck rillettes which were yummy, albeit a very small portion and not house made. Also, they did not come with crackers, which were an additional charge. This was our only gripe, because do people just eat the rillettes straight out of the jar with a knife?!? But that aside, we loved our sparkling wine selection (a bottle of Brut rosé) and the casual luxury of enjoying our bottle on the outside patio during a gorgeous summer afternoon. Service was quick, attentive, knowledgeable, courteous and friendly, but not hovering or overbearing. Perfect balance. If you want to experience the best of Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, be sure not to miss this gem of a winery.

Friday afternoon, we decided to venture out toward Philo to explore the vineyards in the area and stop by for some wine tastings. Roederer caught our eye off Hwy 128, so our group of 4 decided to go for a quick glass to enjoy the beautiful view. Enticed by the large door and expansive patio, we walked in to order our wines around 4:25pm. A taller long haired man greeted us with "Hey, sorry we're at full capacity" was our greeting. No hello, no welcome to our estate. I let him know we just stopped by for a glass and were not there for a full tasting. Uninterested, he just repeated that they were at capacity and finished for the day. Their hours state that they close at 5, and rejecting 1 glass of wine at 30 minutes before closing seems absurd and rather lazy to me. Let the photos speak for themselves...half of the interior tables being available, along with half the exterior being available meant full capacity. There are an abundance of family run and established vineyards all throughout the Anderson valley. DO NOT waste your time coming to Roederer Estate.
