    Garlic butter escargot
    Qui A.

Today was my first time visiting this establishment. First things first, It is a beautiful restaurant with a classy and comfortable atmosphere. My boyfriend and I were immediately welcomed and seated. We had a very knowledgeable server who told us about a few food items we ordered (it was our first time eating french food) and he explained in full detail . We both ordered escargot with garlic and butter as well as a beef cheek bourguignon and that was AMAZING. The beef melted in our mouth and the potatoes were so tasty! I highly recommend this restaurant if you're willing to try something new and be amazed with what you eat.

I love Augies. The food is always amazing and the drinks are even better! I just went for happy hour on Friday and I will absolutely be coming back. Great deals and loved the options!

Looking for lunch post museum visiting my childhood hometown, we walked into this beautifully appointed restaurant, warmly welcomed by staff and guided to the lovely high top in the window overlooking 4th street and Courthouse square. We elected to each share a salad, and a lovely half baguette with savory salted butter arrived shortly after ordering. While we waited for our meal, we mourned how the now shuttered Left Bank in Larkspur used to be this way, and hoped that Augie's would also give serious attention to dishes while simple as salad are beautiful and as satisfying as mains and desserts. All expectations were met and then some with the carefully composed plates that arrived (see photos). I look forward to returning for a brunch or dinner, and will recommend to others out of the area that Augie's is worth a stop in Santa Rosa if one is coming or going. So delicious.

I've been wanting to come to Augie's for awhile, and finally made it out here. I generally like the Stark restaurants. There were some hits and some misses on my visit. Cozy decor and the restaurant is in the middle of all the downtown Santa Rosa action. The bread and butter were so good. And complimentary, which I feel is rare these days. Salade Lyonnaise was surprisingly good for this reluctant veggie eater. The bacon vinaigrette really gave it a meaty flavor. I wanted to try the terrine but the group vetoed me for the pate and I was pleasantly surprised. It came with a little bit of salad, mustard, and pickles, and the whole thing ate really well together. Next came the sweetbreads and I think I was only sad there wasn't more of it. I liked this best of the apps. Got the half dozen raw oysters on half shell. Those were okay, I think I could skip next time. For mains, I got the duck confit. The duck itself was okay. I think I expected it to be more tender; and it was a bit oversalted for my taste. The potatoes and fig jus though... wow I would order this if it was just a side. Also, again, appreciated that there was a salad with this, I thought it was a nice touch that brightened up the dish. I probably wouldn't get this again but there are other mains to try. I tried the dishes ordered by others at our table. I thought the steak was super chewy. Definitely the worst steak I've had from a Stark restaurant. It is the worst steak I've had in recent memory. It also had very little sauce, but maybe I was only looking for the sauce because the steak wasn't any good. I thought the duck sausage dish was a bit salty. The poulet frites was probably objectively the most well-prepared protein out of what we ordered, in terms of seasoning and texture. We were pretty stuffed so we didn't get dessert this time. The service was interesting. Front of house were very welcoming and friendly, what you would likely expect for hospitality. Servers were not very welcoming or friendly, but maybe it's trying for French vibes in that way. (Jk.) It was maybe giving new server. That said, by the end of the meal I couldn't really knock it because the servers were prompt in responding to all our requests. Overall, I think the visit was like 3.5 stars because of the bread and butter, good apps, and prompt service were good, but the mains were all pretty disappointing. I will definitely be back to try more of the apps and maybe a dessert.

Came out to Augie's French on a Sunday. Parking was easy downtown which isn't always the case. Once inside, I noticed it was a beautiful place we and were seated quickly. The service was good, waiter was a bit difficult to hear and understand but we made due. Food wasn't amazing. I had steak frites and the peppercorn was wild. Too much. Drinks and fries were good. I recommend the fries.

Restaurant Week 2026 Such a beautiful experience for our first visit. This place has been on my radar for a while, and with a sweet gift card in hand (thank you, Mr. Brown!), we finally visited Augie's during Restaurant Week. First off, the vibe is upscale casual, the perfect spot for a relaxed yet elevated dining experience. The entire staff, from host to server to runners, was friendly, helpful with suggestions, and wonderfully attentive. Everything was paced so beautifully that we truly got to enjoy every step along the way. We started with cocktails. A French 75 for me and a (very generous pour!) Pinot for my husband. My cocktail was beautifully balanced with citrus and sparkle. Delicious. We ordered different offerings from the Restaurant Week menu so we could try a little of everything. Butter Lettuce Salad - So light and perfectly dressed, accented with fennel and a generous portion. Onion Soup Gratinee - Oh good heavens. Heavenly. Cheesy, savory, deeply caramelized, rich and beefy. Salmon Paillard à la Plancha - Cooked and presented beautifully. Flaky, tender, and full of flavor. Still thinking of that leek beurre blanc! Beef Cheek Bourguignon - Oh my. Talk about rich. The potatoes were ultra-creamy and the meat just fell apart. That said, the chef was definitely salt-heavy on this dish. It was a bit distracting. Crème Brûlée - This is the definition of crème brûlée for me. Perfectly brûléed without bitterness. The custard wasn't eggy and had visible vanilla throughout. Brown Butter Chocolate Caramel Mousse - My least favorite bite simply because it was so dense, but the flavor was absolutely there. Overall, such a lovely first experience. We'll definitely be back when we want to enjoy a more bougee date night.

We had high hopes for this restaurant, and while there were some highlights, the overall experience ended up being disappointing. We started with the duck liver, which I really enjoyed. The combination of the rich duck liver and sweet figs was perfectly balanced. Our second appetizer was the frog legs. Unfortunately, they were quite bland, and the portion was so small that there was barely any meat to enjoy. For our entrées, we ordered the duck confit and the beef cheek. The quality of the ingredients was excellent. The beef cheek was incredibly tender, and the duck had beautifully crispy skin. However, both entrées were far too salty for our taste. The excessive salt completely overwhelmed the flavors and unfortunately turned what could have been a very enjoyable meal into a disappointing one. It's a shame because the ingredients were clearly high quality and the cooking was well executed, but the heavy seasoning made it difficult for us to fully enjoy the dinner.

Burger. So good. Get the truffle mayo with the fries.

One of the best burgers I've ever had. The chicken was also delicious. Fries with the truffle mayo are delicious. Service was lovely. Restaurant is cozy and hip. An absolute gem and one of the better meals I've had at a restaurant in a long while.

My wife and I rarely get to have a nice night out. This was probably our first date night in way too long. We were considering where to have dinner when we thought we'd try a relatively new restaurant in Santa Rosa. The thing is, I love a good French Bistro more than anything. There is something about classic, comforting French food that makes sense for the winter months. Augie's is a special place and here is why. First, the space is so artfully done. It has the feel of somewhere very classy, but also very warm and inviting. I love the art on the walls and light fixtures are really beautiful. I loved sitting by the wall of wine in the back of the restaurant. It is really striking against the backdrop of the wallpaper pattern. I really appreciated the staff here. The host and the servers all make you feel very welcome and take good care of you. We started dinner with some fresh bread and whipped butter. The butter was perfect at room temperature and the bread was warm and tasty. We ordered their French onion soup which was perfectly done. I appreciated that not only was it beautifully crusted cheese and bread on top the soup underneath wasn't boiling hot so it didn't burn your mouth. The flavors and textures here are exactly what they should be and it's a good size portion. For entrees we ordered their Nicoise Salad and the Poulet frites. The Poulet (chicken) and fries was the shining star of the evening. This may be some of the best chicken I've had in a long time. The sauce is garlicky with lemon, butter, mustard and herbs. There was a baked lemon and roasted garlic on the plate to add even more flavor to the dish. The chicken was so moist and tender. I will be dreaming of this dish for some time. The fries were good. Crispy, salty, served with a bernaise sauce. I dipped my fries in the sauce that the chicken was in and that was perfect. The Niçoise salad I quite liked, but I need to put a disclaimer on it. There are many elements on the plate. Some are absolutely amazing, and others I could do without. The dressing had a heavy flavor of salty anchovy to it that my wife didn't like, but I actually enjoyed it. I love anchovies on most things so it worked for me! The blacked tomato was my wife's favorite part of the dish, while I thought the tuna was the star of the dish. I also enjoyed the soft boiled egg! For dessert, we ordered the Crepes Suzette. This dessert crepe is packed with a lot of intense flavor. From the Grand Marnier to all the citrus this dish may almost be too much flavor. The alcohol in the dish was a bit too much for my wife, but she loved the scoop of ice cream that came with it. The crepe itself was excellent and I ate every last bit of it even though I was absolutely stuffed. We left happy and will return again at some point! Thank you to the Stark family for opening this wonderful restaurant!

I come to Augie's French pretty regularly with friends and it hits every time. The decor is beautiful in that classic Stark way: warm lighting, stylish details and an upscale cozy atmosphere. The food is great, the service is on point and the place just has a nice overall energy. Their cocktails are also good, not overly fancy or experimental like other restaurants in the area. I will say a lot of the time I need to google what I'm ordering food wise but what I have had has always been flavorful (even when I still have no clue what French dish I just ordered). I still haven't mustered the energy to try the escargots but maybe one day I'll be brave. Overall 10/10, Augie's is the perfect balance of upscale and casual. Great addition to the Starks restaurants chain. Just a tip: definitely make a reservation if you're going during peak dinner hours. Its a smaller space that fills up quickly and the front reception area gets crowded!

I've come here twice with my mom and family and both dinners were amazing. Small and cozy but with an ambiance that doesn't feel too upscale and stressful that might come with French places! Service was always prompt and welcoming as well. There is a good variety of food with the stars I think being their escargot (the garlic butter being the best). Lots of little touches of snail decor around the restaurant is really cute. I've had their ahi Niçoise salad and it is excellent. The potatoes and ahi were a surprisingly good combo for me. Oysters are a refreshing appetizer but I recommend the frog legs (tastes almost like a very lightly fried thinner chicken wing). I often paired it with a side of mushrooms. My family has gotten a variety of their menu. Onion soup is good and ahi tartare is great to share and munch. Warmed baguette bread and butter are always available. They have such good appetizers I think they even beat out the entrees. But I can say their steak and poulet/chicken frites are not bad too. I'm very glad they can do substitutions for the frites with roasted vegetables and got my poulet with green beans instead which still were a good pairing for the meat. Desserts are great too to share and finish your meal. Creme brûlée is standard in a lot of places and theirs hits the mark but I love Augie's Crepe Suzette more! A tangy orange based crepe topped with vanilla ice cream with bits of crispy orange bits throughout. I hope I come back again to try more dishes. A lovely spot in downtown. Reservations are easily made online too.

Quaint and Fabulous - Perfection in Every Bite We came here for the first time to celebrate my husband's graduation with friends who live in town, and they recommended Augie's French Bistro - I'm so glad they did. From the moment we stepped into this charming, quaint spot, everything felt special and authentically French without being stuffy. The food was made to perfection, starting with fresh chilled oysters that were briny and pristine, followed by the rich, comforting onion soup gratinee. Our entrees - steak frites with crispy fries and perfectly seared meat, plus the delicate salmon paillard - showcased an amazing subtlety of flavors that lingered beautifully. We paired it all with a nice bottle of wine and indulgent desserts that capped off the evening flawlessly. Parking is off-street, which could be better during busy times, but the short walk added to the European vibe and was actually quite pleasant. Be prepared to pay a premium, but it's so worth it for this level of quality and experience - a true gem in Santa Rosa for special occasions.

We recently had the chance to have dinner at Augie's and overall the experience was good and some minor improvements in food execution would make the experience exceptional. First off, parking can be a bit challenging here. There is a very small paid lot immediately behind the restaurant (entrances on B St. between 4th and 5th Sts. or on 5th St. between B St. and Mendocino Ave.) but almost every time we've been there it's been full with 2-3 cars waiting for folks to leave. It's not worth the hassle - use the much bigger lot that is across 5th St. It's an extra few minutes walk, but we've always been able to find parking here. Both lots are paid but only until 6pm. The space itself is quite dark due to its orientation but they've done a great job creating a bistro-like casual dining atmosphere. It's a bit loud at times but not so loud that you can't have a conversation at a two-top. Our first look at the menu was overwhelming - so many things looked incredible so we opted for two starters and two entrees, which ended up being way too much food. For the starters, we had the sauteed sweetbreads, which was honestly the best thing we had all night. The sweetbreads were perfectly cooked (they are quite easy to overcook and get really tough and unappetizing) and seasoned to perfection with a nice hit a lemon to cut through the richness. We also tried the steak tartare, which was good, but leaning a bit more toward being mustard-heavy. It wasn't overpowering by any means and if you like mustard, you'll absolutely love this. I personally prefer a little less mustard and the addition of bit more chopped cornichons for acidity, but this was still very enjoyable. For the mains, we had the moules frites and duck confit. The sauce for the moules frites was absolutely delicious - ask for some extra bread to soak it all up and enjoy. The muscles were cooked perfectly, but unfortunately, they were not well prepped - beards were not fully removed and some of them were quite sandy, which is a little unappealing. The frites unfortunately were quite limp - I'm not sure if they sat under the warming lamp while other parts of our mains were still being prepared but a good bistro has to nail the frites, which IMO have to have a golden, crisp exterior and warm, creamy interior. Unfortunately, they also charge extra for aioli. The duck confit was well seasoned and falling off the bone, but the skin wasn't crispy, which for me falls short since it's a crucial component for the balance of textures in the dish. Some of the frisee in the salad had some dirt/grit as well. Again, the food issues are unfortunate, but I would consider them relatively minor issues that hopefully can be improved upon in the future (certainly at least washing/rinsing salad lettuces and mussel prep). Our server was awesome and service all throughout the meal, whether from our server or from bussers/runners was exceptional. We brought a bottle of wine in ($35 corkage, waived with one bottle purchase off their menu, up to two 750ml bottles) and also ordered one off their menu. The menu has some good options but I struggled to find very many good producers on the list with a reasonable markup. FWIW, if you like a richer style of Chardonnay, the best value on their list is the Dehlinger Estate Chardonnay ($70 on the menu, ~$45-50 retail). Our server handled the wine service perfectly - always stopping by to add splashes of wine and checking in on the temps to see if we needed an ice bucket. We'll definitely be back to try some other dishes off the menu!

Our server was incredibly friendly, and the entire room shared the same warm, easygoing vibe. The small, speakeasy themed space was already packed at 5 PM, so reservations seem like a must. Everything we ordered was well-prepared and delicious, but the standout dishes were the beet salad and the shrimp & grits. The beet salad had a perfect mix of textures; chopped pistachios, tender beets, and crunchy radishes over a pillowy ricotta. I finished the salad wishing there was more. The shrimp & grits featured a potlikker sauce that absolutely lived up to the hype; it made the dish. I wish the shrimp & grits were served in a bowl rather than a shallow dish. I found myself chasing the sauce and polenta around the plate, trying not to push it over the edge. That said, if it were in a bowl, I might have just drank the sauce, so perhaps this is the restaurant's way of preserving a bit of dignity for its guests. Next time, I'm hoping to visit when oyster po' boys and fried green tomatoes are on the menu.

We didn't have a reservation, but lucked out with seats at the community table. Bonus: the other guests were super welcoming, which just added to the fun, communal feel. We hit happy hour, and wow--it's a good one. Tons of interesting bites and a solid drink lineup. I went with a whiskey sour, my friend had the ginger beer on draft (very refreshing), and we shared the prawns, Brussels sprouts, and creamy mac & cheese. Everything was seriously delicious. Shoutout to our server, Melanie--friendly, attentive, and totally on it, even with the place packed. A couple things to note: it does get loud, so maybe not your spot if you're after a quiet, intimate dinner. Also, the happy hour menu listed Brussels sprouts but didn't mention bacon--I'm vegetarian, so that was a bit of a surprise. (It is noted on the regular dinner menu, which I admittedly didn't check.) All in all, such a fun, lively spot. I'll definitely be back for more bites and cocktails.

There's almost zero damping and no acoustic management whatsoever. It has the appearance of an attractive venue without the functional reality. It was incredibly painful with the voices of all the talking along with the music ringing in our ears. The conversations of people were amplified by the design of the facility to the point where they were competing with the fully amplified '90s band that I heard called joose. In addition, they appear to have no comprehension about how to actually create an appropriate acoustic management system. There are no damping systems, no soft surfaces, it's like they didn't even ask anybody who knows anything about anything about how to do acoustic design. It's entirely appearance based. We will never return here again for anything other than a cocktail or maybe a karaoke event. It was a waste of $20. Per person. We effectively paid $40 for a couple to be acoustically tortured for 2 hours. We kept hoping it would get better but it didn't I thought maybe once more people came in they might help but it didn't help they just got louder. I can't believe that nobody else has complained about this before.

However, these performers just lip sang and walked around collecting tips. Hardly any interaction with the crowd. The '3 course meal' was awful. First course was a small cinnamon bun and mini chocolate crossiant, second course was a tiny portion of french toast casserole and egg frita, and then dessert. It was all sugar- no protein, or fruit. Definitely felt like a rip off.

From the little table we sat at, we turned the chairs so we could face the kitchen area where the chefs were making fresh pizzas instead of staring at the bar tender with her chest hanging out (put them away, you're at work) or stare at the doorway. We weren't overly hungry but wanted to try it. The prices were pretty steep for a beer $12, and the cocktail was VERY expensive $19 after tax. Hubs decided not to order the beer but insisted I try a fancy drink so I decided on the unicorn after recommendation from our waitress. The drink was pleasantly good, not too sour or too sweet, however definitely not worth the price. Then we decided on a small bites, skillet prawns. The wait wasn't too long. We took a bite each and we were so confused at the odd flavor. It tasted like latex gloves and cleaner. Hubs tried a a second small bite of another one and spit it out. We probably shouldn't have stopped. Our waitress was really nice about it and offered to get us a new one or something else or a dessert, but we declined. She ended up taking it off the bill. Maybe skip the drinks and order a pizza.

Even though it didn't seem busy. When the fries were brought out the waitress didn't bring napkins or utensils. The utensils I could care less for but eating finger food without having a napkin isn't what I like to do. She left before I realized we didn't have utensils. It was about 5 minutes before another waiter at another table came close enough for me to ask for utensils. The ambiance is always great here. It can be packed and you can still have a conversation with someone. The decor is cigar room classy. Still one of my favorite spots.

Our most recent trip was a few weeks ago. They were great to let us get orders in with minutes left before 5. My sister pre-ordered a cocktail that would be served after 5 and they honored the HH price discount but our refill drinks were full price, so plan ahead! Our total with drinks (6), mussels and fries, flatbread, asparagus salad, tuna tartare was $180 for the 3 of us. Felt pricey, but I guess it's not surprising considering where we were. Drinks were delicious! Service was great overall, no hovering but attentive enough to not feel forgotten.
