We're staying at the Heritage House, so thought we'd try 5200 out. It was May, midweek so not crowded at all - they did only use the back room (not the nice dining area with plush seating, as pictured in some of the yelp photos). The back room is very casual - it was "seat yourself" so get here early if you want to snag a table by the window(s). The food was mixed - started with one of the specials: "Red & Gold Beet Salad" @ $17 - it was beautiful, but the white truffle vinaigrette was flavorless so the salad was bland. Tried another special: "Steak Diane" @ $40 - ordered medium-rare and it was way undercooked. Couldn't bring myself to eat it. The Grilled Rib Eye was good - was also on the rare side but husband doesn't mind. It was a treat to have some live music (Kendall Dean) - she was super. Servers were friendly. Was nice, but wasn't impressed with the room, and just bummed the meat wasn't cooked to order. read more

This review is for dinner on a Thursday evening. Service 4 Food 2-3 Atmosphere 3-4 We went to support our friend who was playing music for the diners. Previously we've walked through the restaurant to check it out but haven't eaten there...it always looked too "hotel-y" as far as an appealing vibe yet the views, of course, are lovely. And we were locals wanting to support our friend and the restaurant. Our server was sweet and attentive. I ordered a Grey Goose over ice with a twist....now at most bars, even in urban cities, that is not a martini, yet I was charged $14, which is the usual price for a mixed cocktail. Unfortunately, "with a twist" (lemon) came back with a lime twist and a lime slice. Boo. My burger ordered "medium" came back medium-rare to rare. Mind you, the place was not busy at all. The meat was of good quality which I appreciated, but still..it wasn't anywhere close to "medium". You can have fries or salad. $20. My partner's dish was pesto pasta with chicken....and it was swimming in oil. Cubed chicken...sadly the dish was mediocre with a hefty price of $35. The atmosphere is staid...somewhat empty on a week night. As mentioned, we went to support our musician friend....perhaps it's a bit more fun in the summer. And sunsets would be fabulous. read more

November 8, 2024 5200 Restaurant is located on the coast at the Heritage House Resort. We (a party of 5) arrived for dinner at 5:00, right when they open, and we were able to get a table next to a window with an ocean view. You can't beat that, right? There is also a fireplace in the dining room, which adds to the ambiance. We were there on a Friday night, so there was a live pianist, which was a nice touch. I believe they have live music 3 times per week--check their website. Staff was friendly and attentive. The menu is not extensive, but there were plenty of items that caught my interest. I started with one of the night's specials, the Roasted Beet Salad ($16.00). It was visually stunning with its vibrant colors and incredibly delicious. For our main entree, my husband and I decided on the 10 oz grilled ribeye steak ($54.00). It came with scalloped potatoes and vegetables. We asked to split the entree, as we often do. We can no longer eat a big meal, especially at night, and we were traveling, so taking home leftovers wasn't really an option. After we placed our orders, the server came back and told us that the cook wouldn't split the order. She would bring us an extra plate, though, and we could split it ourselves. We even offered to pay extra for splitting, but no go. Many restaurants will split the entree and then add a "split charge fee", which suits us fine. But in this case, it would have been great if the server would have told us up front that they wouldn't split the entree. The ribeye dinner itself was okay. The meat had a fair amount of gristle, which made for a bit of toughness. The scalloped potatoes and vegetable accompaniments were fair, but not anything remarkable. There was barely a spoonful of vegetables. On another note, we brought our own wine, and we called ahead and were told the corkage fee was $20.00 per bottle. When we got the bill, the corkage fee was $25.00. Not a big deal, but we had two bottles of wine, so paid a $50 fee instead of the $40 we were expecting. Food was excellent, view was amazing and waitress and chef was super accommodating of my food allergies. Our waitress made sure to verbally let the chef know about my food allergies. She helped me pick out what she felt would be the easiest thing to order based on my allergies and preferences. Really enjoyed my meal and the view really added to the experience. I wanted this place to be better. Sadly, the food is tired, and there are so many better options just a few minutes up the road. I had a Hokkaido scallops and prawns dish. I don't think I've ever had scallops butchered as they were at 5200 Restaurant. They were hard and rubbery, and reminded me of shelf-stable dried scallops sold in Asian grocery stores. The chef just shouldn't tackle ingredients in the specials menu that are so plainly out of his/her depth. The greens were a complete salt bomb. Wait staff is perfectly nice albeit understaffed since everything felt slow. They charge for bread here despite the long wait. We had tried a few other restaurants in town, which blew us away...great food and service. Sad to say but this place just isn't it. Save yourself a subpar meal and skip. read more

One of my worst dining experiences ever. They don't take reservations. We were staying at the hotel and waited about 2 hours to be seated. People who got there after us were seated before us. Food is disappointing and definitely not worth the wait. Given our state of starvation, one would think that they could set bologna in front of us and we would think it tastes like filet mignon...but it was just bland and meh. With a dozen great restaurants within 2-10 minute drive, why would anyone dine here? read more

This wonderful restaurant is a find on the coast. It is nestled in the redwoods on the Pacific Coast. The views are worth a visit for a glass of fine Mendocino wine at the bar with such a friendly staff. The dinners and appetizers are also amazing. I had crepes with mushrooms that are reminiscent of Paris. I also had the best scallops with cauliflower. I then heard that the chef is from Paris of course. This restaurant is a treat to enjoy. I hope to return soon from the Bay Area. The restaurant is beautiful as well. We also enjoyed great live music on Friday night. read more

We dropped in on a Sunday evening to check out the restaurant for possibly breakfast the next day. We arrived at 8:00 pm. They were not busy at all with a large party and a few others dining. Decided to have a cocktail. I went on the deck to sit by the fire while my husband waited to order at the bar. He was there for 20 minutes and invisible. Three servers kept walking back and forth in front of him behind the bar and never acknowledged him. Mind you there was no one at the bar except for him and one other person who looked like an off duty employee. Finally someone made eye contact with him yet they still didn't take his order. It was the oddest thing. It was very off putting. When he finally got our drinks we couldn't stop thinking about what just happened. I've noticed the good reviews but I don't know that I would take my chance on a meal here. We decided it would be a no for breakfast. And if I were staying there and received that level of service I would be beyond disappointed. I'm going to say it was an off night. They should have comped our drinks. That would have been the appropriate thing to do along with an apology. I hope to put this behind me and return for a better experience. read more

This place has definitely done some restructuring, and I have to say that they definitely listened to suggestions and feedback! The staff has changed some, and the additions to the team are fantastic! They've come up with some new, fun menu ideas, and also left some of the standards for those who come back regularly for their popular dishes. We eat at the restaurant every time we stay at the hotel, and between the cozy dinner service, breakfast in the morning has some tasty new items as well. The chef has been taking great care to keep things current and creative, and I always look forward to seeing what is new when we visit! read more

We were so excited to visit our local favorite Heritage house after many years of renovation - dreaming of an ocean view on the back deck of the bar with hopefully the tried but true phenomenal artichoke dip they used to have before Covid only to be greeted by a pompous and arrogant host who offered us his opinion of which he clearly knew nothing. Husband and I ate here on our anniversary trip. We couldn't get enough of the Brussels spouts! Even considered ordering a second order of them! And the rib eye dish was top notch. Luckily we ordered it to share because it would have been way too much food for one person. But it was incredible. We loved the views and the peacefulness. Every item we ordered was fresh and had an interesting and welcomed twist to it. The homemade focaccia, Cesar salad, chicken parm, sole, ribeye- all 5/5 dishes! I can't recommend this place enough. On Friday and Saturday they had live piano music and the views are spectacular. The chef knows what they are doing and I really wish more restaurants were like this- as in every item you get is fantastic. Stayed at Harbor House in Elk and after arriving around 6pm found everything to be closed. No cell service so we headed north and finally the interweb came alive and found this place for us. It is a hotel restaurant, so it is not clear where it is or really marked after dark... had a fabulous dinner of local cod and a beer, it was just what the doctor ordered for our first meal in town. This is more like a 4.5 joint but honestly the generosity with the scallops makes it a 5. I definitely think ordering off the specials menu is the way to go, which is what I did. I ordered a scallop and prawn fettuccini for around $30 fully expecting little bay scallops. Lo and behold I had around 8 large, juicy, well cooked scallops. A lot of reviews knock this place for service but I don't think anyone is rude, just maybe not as talkative as Americans are used to. Ambiance was great with the mood lighting. Dinner was delicious. The ambiance was very nice and quite. Scenic views and great service. Our party of 6 and our dog came right as the Lounge opened at 5PM and was seated right away. The server and host was attentive and even brought out a water bowl for our dog. Very much appreciated. We ordered the Crab cakes and Tomato bisque to start and the girls loved it so much that we ordered a second helping. My hubs ordered the scallops and I ordered the Halibut. Both came with Crab Risotto and it was delicious. The Halibut was flakey with a nice crisp to the edges and the crab risotto was so flavorful. You can taste the crab in it. The tomato remoulade paired very well with the fish. The Scallops was so tender and flavorful. It also came with the same crab risotto and the tomato Remoulade hade olives in it. Very Nicely done. This is a lovely restaurant at the Heritage House Resort, in Little River. We had the bacon and avocado omelette for breakfast and the oven roasted chicken and a pizza for dinner which were all delicious. The Spanish flan for dessert was also a good choice. The resort is in a very beautiful location so the view from the restaurant is gorgeous. Some evenings there's someone playing the piano so it creates a great ambiance at the restaurant. First time in Mendocino and my boyfriend and I decided to stay at Heritage Inn! For one of the nights we came to 5200 for dinner since it was at the resort! I absolute loved the dining experience here! Food - *Shrimp remoulade - We ordered this app to share. Yum! The shrimps were so jumbo and tasty. I like my seafood fresh and simple these days so I can taste all the goodness. *Walnut pesto pasta - Wow! I loved this so much. Usually when I order pasta at restaurants, the portions are small. This portion was pretty generous and there were lots of shrimp pieces too. The sauce was on point! *Scallops - My boyfriend ordered this dish and I tried a piece of the scallops. The scallops were big and fresh! Ambiance - I am so not used to the ambiance of restaurants like these because usually when my boyfriend and I go to a restaurant for date nights, they are usually loud and crowded even if it's a more romantic scene. The space was perfect. It looks exactly like the pictures. There is a great view. The music was not loud and our neighbors weren't too close to us. Also, the heat was on and I was totally fine not wearing a jacket indoors so it was very cozy. I get cold super easily and I never get to take off my coat in restaurants but I was able to here! Service - The lady at front desk seated us since there was one waiter on duty that night. The service was a bit slow since there was only one person, however, our waiter was nice and we understood. After dinner, we went to the lounge next door for drinks and live music. The live entertainer was so good! There are couches and board games. It is a great place for couples, families and children. Burgers by the fire. Simple fare well done. The restaurant is technically closed for covid but they serve a short menu in the bar Thursday through Monday. We enjoyed sitting in the couches rather than at a table. People bring their dogs so it felt homey. They have veggie burgers as well as beef and the salads can have chicken or shrimp. We made reservations on Open Table. When we walked in we couldn't find a hostess stand to tell them we had a table. We ended up walking through the restaurant looking confused until someone stopped us and asked how many in our group. Recommendation for the restaurant: make the check in process more customer friendly even if you put a sign on what to do/where to do. This is the reason why it's 4 stars and not 5. We ended up sitting in the lounge because they had live music and board games. Absolutely loved the live music. The lounge had the best and most comfortable chairs. The scene was laid back. My husband had the sole in caper butter sauce over mashed potatoes and it was great as well! The ambiance was ok, kind of sparse and lacked any nice vibe. I gave the 2nd star only due to the waitress being wonderful. My wife and I were on a day trip and decided on this place given the decent reviews. We had an appetizer, the seafood soup, all of which was really good. We decided on the lamb chops to share as we were not that hungry. The dish came out with two chops, nicely displayed. The first tasted wonderful, then we bit into the second. It had an off taste, like meat that was just going bad. I should have stopped then, but you just don't expect bad food in a high end resturant. The second bite confirmed the first, the lamb chop was spoiled. I almost immediately wanted to throw it up and had to fight to keep it down. We told the waitress the chop was bad, and she immediately pulled it from the tab and apologized. We felt bad as it wasn't her fault. The meat was clearly spoiled and I ended up feeling sick all night, I was just glad I only took the two bites. Food safety should be taken seriously, especially from a high end resturant. I could have really gotten sick if I had eaten the whole lamb chop. If it wasn't for the waitress doing everything she could to make it right, I would not have given this place even the 2nd star. Very disappointing. read more

Appetizers of heirloom tomato salad and shrimp cocktail were a hit (The shrimp is advertised as a remoulade, but has no remoulade sauce only horseradish cocktail, a nitpick, I know). My wife had half a roasted chicken with a lovely pan sauce, and I had a med-rare filet with asparagus. Both came with mashers. A bottle of Schramsberg complimented both entrees nicely. We were seated in a glass enclosed room perched over the pacific, and at dusk it was a magical view--we could even see some harbor seals, barely. For desert we opted to move to the external porch which had a lovely firepit. It was the only way to have their homemade sorbet without getting too chilly. It's expensive, but worth it. read more

Though the menu has been simplified (down to more of an appetizer and quick fixin's) due to covid, the ambience and spectacular view of this seaside inn remains, it's as beautiful and serene as ever! Great walking trails with the family, a loyal trusted canine pet or simply a quiet time for yourself. What a disappointment for Thanksgiving dinner! Beautiful restaurant but the food was ice cold. I guess their buffet heating system wasn't working so I asked if we could have our food heated up and they said no that the chef would bring out some more warm food to the buffet.so I loaded up my plate again but no luck. I could not eat the food.this could have really been made right for us by just heating up the food in the microwave or comping us a drink or part of the bill. We spent nearly $300 for two drinks each and inedible buffet food. I also told the hostess about our experience but again they made no effort to keep our business read more
