I like this place. Definitely divey, but also kind of old-timey? There's lots of wacky stuff and stickers on the walls. Tbh the men's room in the back reeked of piss, but the bar was friendly enough that I decided not to care. I asked the bartender for a gimlet and she asked if it was ok to use fresh limes instead of syrup (!!!!). A girl after my own heart. I get the sense that this might be the default gay bar in town. Or at least it's really queer-friendly with a mixed crowd. Definitely worth a stop. There's even a park and a great view across the street. read more

Truly the best dive bar in Mendocino as it is undoubtedly the only one in this town. Love the very calm and real energy this place exudes which is in stark contrast with all of the fake touristy places surrounding it. Decent beer line up. STEPH JUDGMENT: A surprisingly fun dive bar in an otherwise super-quaint town. It was my first time in Mendocino, and after walking around taking in the breathtaking ocean views and lovely Victorian houses, we spotted this place and decided to stop in for a drink. Established in 1934, as the sign on its door proclaims, it does look like it's been around for a while--a lot of character, you might say, I had a vodka tonic and a Miller High Life during our stop and had a good time looking at all the stuff on the walls and the people passing through. Local dive bar we stopped at that was dog friendly! They were cash only, so we had to run back to the car to grab cash. They, however, do have an ATM inside. Okay beer selection. Would have gotten 4 stars if the bartender understood i might want to order more than 1 drink for my group of 3 people. It's a cool dive with a decent view. They have a bathroom which apparently is a rarity in the area. Let your bartenders know that if there's 3 people, they might order two or three of the same drinks and they would only have to make them once instead of coming back and forth 3 different times. Was refreshing to come across this place after having a rest reservation cancel dued to Covid / Staff shortage / restaurant close. Down home local "DiveBar" lots of locals and inexpensive drinks. Memorabilia all about Richard and Dick. Darts and a jukebox were the main attraction and Girl Scout Cookies behind the bar ! We stopped in for a shot of tequila and 3 hours later realized we skipped lunch and my friend and I had to get at least 2 boxes of cookies to go with the cocktails and since there was No Lyft or Uber around we had to call family . I love this place more than I love my dog. The owners eula and Dave I think, Might be two of the purest souls in this universe. The love that radiates from their heart will burn your eyeballs out of your skull if you don't have sun glasses on. From the second I walked into that place I felt as if Eula was family... and she is white and I'm black... but nonetheless I felt like she was a cousin from a stepmother on my side or something like that just love. The drinks were fantastic the view beyond fantastic the people/locals who are in the bar stellar beyond belief. If I lived closer I'd be going there every night spending every drop of money I had inside of that place and possibly becoming A raging alcoholic and loving every second of it. My Christmas cards would be pictures of me puking at the front door with a wreath around my neck. If you're within three hours of this place and you don't go there that means something is extremely wrong with you like maybe your mom smoked while you were in the room or fell down a flight of stairs and left you stupid the second you were born. If I had extra money I would asked to invest in this place right now I'm looking at the stock market and NASDAQ to see if they're publicly traded company. When looking to party in the tiny, beautiful sea side town of Mendocino you have but two options. The Irish pub in the middle of town, or Dick's. We chose Dick's. I'm really not even sure how to start talking about such a dope little dive bar. And believe me, by "dive bar" I actually mean dive bar. Shoes sticking to the floor, people of all ages getting ratchet on the dance floor, obliteratedly drunk people EVERYWHERE. Yes I do mean "all ages" by the way which is a great combination with the party hip hop the DJ was kickin. Picture a 60ish year old man singing along to "Bubble Butt" from beginning to end. If you're one for blowing trees, just cross the street and look for the crowd with smoke over their heads. They don't think we know what they're doing over there but we do. I was in town with a rather large crew for a wedding and the Friday night before the ceremony we rolled here about twenty deep. We get to the shots, we get to dancing, and it's just on right from 10pm til close. That crowd knows how to party, no joke. It was jam packed so you couldn't even really tell if someone was just standing near you or trying to dance. One of my friends realized after quite awhile, "I think the girl behind me thinks I'm dancing with her?" He was not. My guess is this is the place to come if you're looking for a one nighter. Once my friend realized the girl was trying to dance with him he could have taken that home but as a married man, that wasn't happening. There was some blond girl who was trying to climb all over me but I was not having it. She'd go in for the kiss and I'd place my hand on the top of her head and rotate it 45 degrees away from me. Kind of like a faucet handle. She called me "amazing" about 723 times but again, I was not having it. I'm sure she got her some by night's end, no worries. Dart boards in the back, dangerous but fun. Pinball. A badass DJ kicking out hip hop all Friday night. When I saw the place from the outside I wasn't sure but after spending a fully night here, I'm a believer. read more

I've walked by this bar so many times and never peaked inside. Mostly because there was loud music, raucous drunken laughter, and frat-type boys about. But today was different. It was Thanksgiving day and very quiet in Mendocino Village. We weren't even sure if it was open but wanted a little beer to start the holiday. Only a few patrons, mellow bartendress, and happy hour prices...who could resist? I had a Blue Beer (Fort Bragg brewery) that was so yummy that I'm thinking of having another tomorrow afternoon. I'm pretty sure the only light cast inside the small, funky bar was the afternoon sun gleaning in from the front windows. Great place to catch a game. Quick service, cold drinks, a great location (by the water next to the Mendocino hotel) and really accommodating staff. Definitely a younger and more fun crowd than Pattersons. I'll definitely make this my go-to bar in downtown Mendocino on all future trips. read more

This is a "Working Mans/Chics" bar! Don't come in and ask for a Manhattan or clinch your teeth to ask for red wine from the Bordeaux region.. If you want froufrou drinks at 7pm go somewhere else, if you want a good drink at 11pm this is the place for you! Fnah. Decent dive bar, but definitely a locals place, which the bartender was happy to let me know by giving me the "you're a waste of my bartending time" look as soon as I walked in. When I asked to open a tab he said no because he wasn't "good at counting." He didn't look a day over 18 to begin with, so maybe he was telling the truth. Later I overheard him telling a story about "some pussies from San Diego." (Not a reference to me, since he didn't know where I was from, but it was obvious that this guy has issues with people outside the Mendocino zip code.) Anyway, I understand that a small town dive bar isn't going to necessarily be the friendliest place for a stranger, so no hard feelings. Step back in time: Somewhere one can purchase a rub-on tattoo, a knit hat with a fake ponytail draining out the back, and a sleeveless Harley tee shirt with battery acid burns conveniently over the nipple areas. Go ahead...no one will notice. So what if you roared up on an electric bicycle with an Obama sticker peeling off your dented fender...no one will notice. When the local CHP cruiser slinks past the wobblies leaning against their rusty station wagons those toothless locals carefully place their recently purchased 'off sale' booze bottles down the front of their painter's pants and grin; well then, be careful. Dick's Place is surprisingly 'clean' for an old establishment. If anthropologists want to lift up the flooring for ancient history, no doubt there would be nothing but broken teeth, roach clips, and that darn phone number of some record kept, over-charged hormones ago... Perhaps the phone number of a local clinic to boot! Park your scooter right in front; you can even leave your helmet strapped up to your handlebars - no one will mess with it. It's a cool dive, kind of a laid back place that I like. On top of that, the view just out the door is amazing. They've got the usual beers, then the popular California beers (bear republic!), and lots of wall mounted TVs playing various sports. I'm not a sports fan myself, but my man was able to catch one of the western conference finals while I enjoyed the beer and the view. The bartender had kind of a Vince Vaughn/Ben Affleck vibe going and he was friendly. I didn't feel the "out of towners" unwelcome attitude some people are talking about here. What more can I say?
