Melanzane Parmigiana
Suzanne M.

We like coming here and enjoying the garden dining with guitarist. I was happy with my dinner of pollo Valdostana. It was enormous and tasty. I took half home. My husband had the Orecchioni. He is harder to please and said it was just ok. We also shared the Melanzane Parmigiana and enjoyed it very much. Make sure to make a reservation. The interior is very small but garden a great place to enjoy. We like seeing the home made pasta being prepared in the side window at the entrance. Remember, reservations are essential unless you want to eat later and take your chances that something opens up.

Penne alla Boscaiola

What a charming Italian restaurant right in the heart of Mendocino. It's approached down a long path through a seemingly secret garden. What a pleasant way to approach a culinary experience. The restaurant has lots of charm. As you approach the front door there's a window into the kitchen where they are making the home made pasta. This definitely sets the tone. The dining area is cozy and has a 'woodsy' ambiance with nice decorative touches, an upstairs mezzanine and a beautiful garden deck/patio out back for dining too. The staff are super friendly and one feels as though you're eating in someone's friends home. The menu has many excellent dishes, primarily pastas. This is northern Italian cuisine so don't expect a lot of red sauces. The soup, a pasta fagioli, seemed interesting so I had a bowl and selected the Penne alla Boscaiola with onion, mushrooms, sausage and a cream sauce. I found the soup a bit underwhelming compared to some hearty types I've had in the past. It seemed to lack the strong richness and the beans were somewhat mushy. It wasn't bad, just different for me. The Penne, however, was a knockout. I haven't had that good a pasta dish in years. All the flavors were spot on and the ingredients perfectly proportioned and melded together. The sauce didn't overwhelm the dish and coated the pasta perfectly. I couldn't have been happier. The pasta here is obviously top notch and I'd love to try many more dishes. I doubt you can go wrong.

Romantic restaurant that will satisfy any occasion. The experience is great from start to finish. The starter bread is incredible. The calamari is also very fresh and tender. And all the dishes we ordered were a hit. I loved our waiter. He was very friendly and told some hilarious stories. Luna was an awesome experience.

We had such a great experience at Luna. We went on a Wednesday night with no reservation and were able to get two seats at the bar immediately. There was also no wait for food, which was a nice surprise. Everything we had was amazing. The pomodoro sauce was made in-house and was absolutely delicious. The cod fish was locally sourced, and all of the ingredients tasted so fresh, which really made the meal stand out. Some of the best food we've had in Mendocino. Our server was also very knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and everyone was so kind throughout the night. The garden outside was very beautiful. You must try the flan! It was absolutely great!

On our trip to Mendocino, we celebrated our anniversary at Luna. We sat inside, upstairs, but the patio seating looked so nice as well with the string lights. We both enjoyed our carbonara and vodka penne pastas. We topped off the night with cannolis.

We arrived without reservations, hoping to sit at the bar, albeit 6 seats, and found the bar full. The hostess worked with her boss and sat our party of 2. The staff were kind, courteous and went above and beyond to accommodate us. The food, as always, impeccable. If you like dining outside, there are heaters and the grounds are lovely. Inside, chatting with each other was done without effort. Music softly playing, it was a nice meal. Prices are typical Mendo. Italian done well.

One of the best restaurants in Mendocino. You definitely will want a reservation for this place otherwise the likelihood of you eating here is slim if you are dropping in on the day of. They have a nice patio / backyard area if you want to dine outside.

They had a lot of seating, but if you don't have a reservation it's hard to get a table without a wait. For a table of 2 we walked in and had 1 party wait in front of us, which still took 30ish min to be seated. The outdoor seating is beautiful with the lighting, but the indoors was quaint as well. The waiters are extremely nice and sociable, makes you feel like family. Great spot for a date night! 5/5 Complimentary focaccia was soft and fluffy. They had different ones, like rosemary, plain, and the pizza. The pizza one was easily the best, especially if it just came out of the oven. You can definitely ask for more and they are happy to bring you some! 4/5 Melanzane parmigiana was a nice eggplant parm in a smaller appetizer form. Don't let the size fool you, it's pretty filling. I would have wished for a bit more sauce and the eggplant a bit more seasoned, but it was definitely a great dish. There were parts where the batter was a bit soggy. 4/5 Cappellacci Verdi alla Zucca was a solid dish. The butter and sage sauce was simple and allows the pasta to shine, with the squash not being too strong. I think if it was stronger in flavor, it might have shined a bit more. 5/5 Spaghetti al Pesto Genovese is easily the best dish. The pesto flavor was strong and seasoned well. If you come here, this is the one to get! 4/5 Creme Brulee was nice, great exterior with the right sweetness. Felt a little too firm on the inside as I would have wanted it softer, but nothing out of this world. Overall a really solid Italian spot that feels like a neighborhood gem. The complimentary focaccia and the pesto spaghetti alone are worth the visit. I would recommend making a reservation to skip the wait, but the ambiance and warm service make it a perfect date night spot. Looking forward to coming back and trying more of their pasta offerings!

We really enjoyed the food here on a night where many restaurants were closed. You walk down a lovely path to a wooden door. Inside it's very festive with a choice of indoor seating or pati. The rock music doesn't quite fit the scene for me but the dishes and service were great. We had the linguine and clams done very well plus the cappellachi verde, also prepared well. It definitely helped to have a reservation although they accept walk ins.

Literally all the pasta my family tried was delicious. The penne's wine sauces weren't bad- It was my first time trying and I think it's worth trying if you like these type of sauces. My top 2 pastas were the carbonara and the California. It's a pretty busy location, but it's so cute and warm - they also have an outdoor patio and a window to watch the pasta being made. Finding the actual location based on Google maps was a bit difficult, but once you see some signs with its name try to follow them!

Luna Trattoria in Mendocino was such a great experience. I ordered a glass of wine and the steak & shrimp pasta, and both were incredible. The steak was cooked perfectly, the shrimp were fresh and flavorful, and the pasta tied everything together beautifully. Every bite was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal while taking in the charm of Mendocino. The service was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. If you're visiting Mendocino, Luna Trattoria is definitely worth a stop. Amazing food, great wine, and a wonderful dining experience all around. Can't wait to come back!

Tiramisu

Cozy din This is a quaint little restaurant with cozy outdoor seatings. Plenty of heat lamps with cute lights. We tried the Tortelli al Funghi Porcini, which was delicious. Fresh pasta filled with the perfect ratio of savory mushrooms and cheese, topped with a smooth sauce. The Linguine alle Vongole would have been great too except it wasn't washed well and had sand in it...would avoid this one. We were celebrating a birthday and they threw in a complimentary tiramisu!

Potato something- yum!

Favorite in Mendocino! Is the chef from Italy? The food was delicious and reminded us of real Italian cuisine. Perfectly homemade pastas. Loved the charm and design of the place and the staff were really friendly too. Enjoyed it so much we cancelled other reservations and booked another dinner here.

Next we split an order of the hangar steak which was very splittable - in fact the picture was just my half. Accompanied potatoes were excellent and it also had broccoli and Brussels sprouts. That one dish was plenty of food for 2 people . The scallops were nicely seared with a lemon sauce - i would have liked a little more lemon sauce on them but they were good Finally the dessert was a Dubai bar - here i think they got a little lazy. They took a chocolate mousse and just sprinkled some crushed pistachio praline on top ( see pic). This should have been integrated into the layers . Overall a very good experience and the service was very good.

After reading a lot of good things about this place, I took my girlfriend here on our romantic…read moreweekend and was pretty disappointed. Firstly, it took over 10 minutes to get a server over to our table. Although the wait staff was really kind and professional, it seemed like the full dining room was pretty understaffed for a Saturday night. For me, waiting a while for service after sitting down always puts a sour note in my mouth before any food has had a chance to reach it. The drinks were nothing to write home about, but not bad either, so I'll jump right to the food. We ordered the scallop dish as our starter. After eating one scallop each, my partner noted that another scallop was a bit cold, so we sent it back to be redone. I was surprised to get the same plate back with only one scallop added to it. Look, I get it. I said ONE scallop was cold, so one scallop was added back. But at the prices this place had, it just felt silly and not okay to have been brought back the same dish with only three scallops on it. I kindly asked the waiter to have them redo the dish, and she was really polite and got it done. But one of the scallops was cold again. We gave up on the dish after that. Next, we ordered the fish and gnocchi dishes. The fish itself was dry and was completely covered up by a clumsy pile of greens, and the gnocchi got the same treatment. They honestly looked kind of like the same dish because of that. The gnocchi wasn't the puffy, delightful dish we were expecting. They were kind of bland and chewy and surrounded by legumes of some kind. It tasted more like a healthy salad-type dish than a sumptuous pasta dish. I really like well-done vegetables, but that doesn't mean a dish has to feel less luxurious or tasty. For some reason, after these disappointments, we also ordered dessert, which was an apple tarte Tatin with ice cream. The Tatin was actually a sort of deconstructed thing, with apples that tasted a little overcaramelized. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like half the joy of a Tatin is the beauty of the fruit baked onto the pastry... the ice cream was great though. At $200 with tip, this just wasn't up to par for me. There are plenty of other fantastic options in the area to try. Book well in advance if you're planning a Mendocino trip, and choose your restaurants wisely.

We were fortunate to come by when there was hardly any line, a good start. With all the buzz about Candy Cap Mushroom ice cream I just had to try it. We grabbed our ice cream and found a number of inside tables to relax in and enjoy our sweets. There are also upstairs and outside tables. My wife loved her Hokey Pokey, and I tried it as well and agreed - a unique concoction and delicious! I found my Candy Cap Mushroom OK, but not a favorite. Certainly points for originality (where else can you find one?) but my tastebuds like something a little sweeter. For me it was a little too like vanilla, my least liked flavor. But I won't ding them for a personal preference, as there was nothing wrong with the quality. Great location for Mendocino ice cream - although maybe next time it's the Hokey Pokey for me.

It seemed like the whole town was closing down around 5 PM, which happened to be right when Cucina Verona was opening for dinner. We were looking for somewhere to eat and, more importantly, somewhere we could relax and unwind after a long day. The moment we walked in, you could feel the warmth of the room. Everyone was incredibly friendly and greeted us with genuine kindness. The service was wonderful, especially our server, Giovanni. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and personable. His service really matched the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. We ordered quite a bit: Antipasti di Formaggio, Garlic Bread, a bowl of Minestrone, Wild Mushroom Risotto with added Salmon, the Surf and Turf (lobster and steak), and the Pizza la Carne, which we took home. Yes, that's a lot of food! Everything was prepared and presented beautifully, and the portions were exactly what we expected for what we ordered. More importantly, the food tasted as good as it looked--which, believe it or not, isn't always the case. My wife and I enjoy ordering a variety of dishes so we can experience different flavors throughout the meal. We usually end up taking quite a bit home because we rarely come close to finishing everything. This time, though, we ate almost everything at the table. The only exception was the pizza, which we intentionally ordered to take with us. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and Giovanni had a lot to do with that. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was excellent, and the food was both well-presented and delicious. I don't like to focus too much on pricing because there is a lot of context that goes into how restaurants price their meals. If that's an important consideration for you, I'd recommend checking out their menu online before visiting. For us, it was a great find, and I'd definitely recommend giving Cucina Verona a visit if you're in the area!

While a table was booked for 6:45 they didn't seat us til 7:!5. The waiter was awful - didn't introduce himself, didn't care about anything (other than maybe his girlfriend in the bar area), knew nothing about the L'Aquila tasting menu and provided no insights to the dishes, charged us $14/martini despite menu stating $8/drink. While the owner's write up and online menu included a dessert (Ferratelle Dolci), no dessert was offered or included at the actual dinner and the server said 'nope - no dessert'. This is so misleading and unexcusable when the promoted dinner menu includes it. Overall a disaster of a dinner - and sadly the food wasn't good either. The tomato starter was uninspired, the pasta cheese sauce hinted of Kraft or pre-packaed, and the lamb skewers were overcooked to the point of being almost jerky. Clearly an owner who spends more time writing his articles than he does training staff, providing food that matches the actual online menu, and ensuring some level of quality. So, can't recommend this place until substantial improvements are made.
