This was our first meal in Mendocino after making the four hour drive from the Bay Area and it was so good that it had us licking all the pepperoni grease off our fingers! We came by at 4pm on a Friday in spring season and there were only a few other parties there. We ordered the Artichoke Pepperoni. They only have 1 size and it looks big but has a thin crust and can comfortably feed two people. The thin crust and dough has a crispy exterior yet a subtle chew on the interior -- it's sturdy enough to support the weight of the toppings but still has a flop when you hold up a slice so it's not too stiff. The slight char on the crust complements the tickle of acidity in tomato sauce. The cheese is stringy and the right amount, while the slices of small pepperoni are crispy and curl up to fill up with its own grease! The salty pepperoni is balanced by the sourness of the artichoke hearts. I also really like the vibe of this place -- they only have outdoor seating available but it's in a serene landscaped garden with tables and seating scattered throughout. If the weather is good, enjoying your pizza while soaking in the costal Mendocino air and partly cloudy sun will make for a memorable experience! FYI Brickery is down the path next door to The Waiting Room. Beautiful grounds to relax and enjoy the wood fired pizza here. We had the Hot Honey Pizza which came out different than what I had read online. Most likely they change their menu daily. The crust had great chew but I prefer a crispy crust. The pizza was very one dimensional lacking veggies of any kind. The so called hot honey was not hot at all but perhaps because there wasn't much honey. HORRIBLE GF PIZZA CRUST. It doesn't taste like the widely commercially available GF crusts, so I suspect they make it themselves. But there's no point, because it's awful. No flavor, no real texture. Burnt at the outside, white in the middle. Doesn't even cook/fire well. The GF pizza at D'Aurelio's and Piacci's in Fort Bragg are SO MUCH better (the crust, the sauce, and the toppings). Do yourself a favor and drive north for GF pizza. Also, I drank a ton of water after this pizza -- lots of salt (presumably in the crust and the cheese, which means the cheese may be cheaper cheese). Mind you, there was no meat on the GF pizza I ordered. No anchovies. Nothing that was salty on its own. AND, if the GF Pizza wasn't disappointing enough, the Carrot Ginger Soup was also very disappointing. I've had carrot ginger soup scores of times in dozens of restaurants on both coasts, in major cities and in small towns. The Brickery's Carrot Ginger had little flavor. Most carrot ginger soups pop in the mouth with the freshness of carrots and ginger. They are aromatic. Not this soup. The Brickery's Carrot Ginger soup leaned entirely on the mouthfeel (i.e. fat flavor) of coconut milk. And while, coconut milk is tasty, I didn't order a cup of coconut milk. I was very disappointed in my first order at The Brickery. I am surprised my experience diverges so much from the overall ratings. The order was so subpar, I won't be coming back to give them a second chance. Eating out is a lot more expensive than it used to be, so the food has to be good every time. read more

So many raving reviews and disappointed I can't join along. Came on MLK weekend from out of town and was super excited to try this place because of the reviews! If you're not LOOKING for this place, you aren't going to find it. For a second we thought they didn't exist anymore. Their outdoor patio was huge and GORGEOUS! Stars for the patio and many adorable dogs that the customers bring. We understand the pizza is made fresh and we didn't mind waiting. Every table around us was complaining about the wait time. One saying it took them an hour, which is about how long it took for us. You can see one of the employees was running around, visibly stressed. That stressed me out! We ordered some beers and were confused why they weren't poured for us to enjoy during the wait. No one let us know there was an upstairs to get the drinks.... Okay. When my partner gets upstairs, there is ONE girl making coffees and pouring beers for a line of 8 people. The pizza, was good - not great. Toppings didn't even go all the way to the crust. Not worth it after a very strange experience. I am sorry for the employees working yesterday as they looked understaffed. Would not recommend or return when coming back to Mendo. read more

Delicious! We ordered online for pickup, which helped with the wait. It said it would take 40min, and when we went to pick up, they said it would take another 15min, so they were def backed up. The pizzas were good! I wish they had more toppings on them. I did see some pizzas from other tables that had more arugula than we received. Figs on pizza are a classic though. For our two pizzas, we were surprised by how good the flavor was considering the pizzas looked and felt relatively light. While you can tell that the dough is made and baked fresh, the tomato sauce was a little too watery for us, and it caused our toppings to fall off the slice very easily (it happens). We came for a spontaneous lunch and had the spicy summer pizza, veggie pizza with tomato and pesto sauce each, spicy salami pizza. The crust was cooked well, and some of the toppings had a really nice smoky flavor. The only caveat was a small worm/caterpillar on the arugula on one of the pizzas. The staff said the veggies are organic so thats why there was a worm, although I would prefer no critters on pizza! They were kind enough to replace with another fresh pizza.
