On a North Coast vacation, we were in Mendocino for the day. On our list to try was Frankie's, as they serve Cowlick's ice cream from Fort Bragg, which we have long been fans of. We were fortunate to come by when there was hardly any line, a good start. With all the buzz about Candy Cap Mushroom ice cream I just had to try it. My wife chose the Hokey Pokey (described as honeycomb candy ice cream with lots of honeycomb candy pieces). We grabbed our ice cream and found a number of inside tables to relax in and enjoy our sweets. There are also upstairs and outside tables. My wife loved her Hokey Pokey, and I tried it as well and agreed - a unique concoction and delicious! I found my Candy Cap Mushroom OK, but not a favorite. Certainly points for originality (where else can you find one?) but my tastebuds like something a little sweeter. For me it was a little too like vanilla, my least liked flavor. A seemingly popular cafe with lots of food options, including things like falafel and pizza. We ordered a simple Pesto Chicken Salad with sliced chicken and it came to our table in little time. You order at the counter and get a stand with a number, find a table and wait for the food to come. It's a very relaxed casual place and the staff are very friendly. We just wanted water and it was readily available from a dispenser. The salad was very fresh, delicious and adequately filling for a quick lunch. I recommend this place. Good quality ice cream. I would definitely come back to try other flavors but to me the candy cap mushroom ice cream just tasted like brown sugar and was overly sweet. I was hoping for a more unique flavor. But with that being said I would for sure come back to try their pizza and other flavors! Great ice cream! Every time we are in Mendocino we get some ice cream here. They serve Cowlick Ice Cream (made locally in Fort Bragg). We enjoyed the Candy Cap Mushroom ice cream ($6.75 for a single scoop). Wait.... I hear you asking me did I mistype the flavor??? Really, it is mushroom ice cream!! Our large party (23 of us with kiddos) came in on an evening and took over their cute little space. We all had good ice cream and enjoyed the good service. My son picked a flavor that he thought was chocolate, but it wasn't and they were kind enough to give him another with out charging me. Went to this pizza place since I have seen others like it, it's popular maybe because they also sell ice cream. The pizza was edible but definitely not good and it's expensive, you also have to pay for a box to go which for the price of the pizza should be included. Do Not order an expresso drink here‼ even though it's on the menu " they act like they have never made one or that it's weird that you ordered it Haha and it's not good. my teenage friend got an ice cream and said it was bland, i forgot the flavor she got but it wasn't vanilla and she said it tasted like bland vanilla and she threw it away. Hands down a must do when in Mendocino . I'm not a big fan of icecream but I would have to say this should be on your itinerary when in town. Tried the mushroom cap icecream and it was decadent . I ordered a single scoop and went back two days in a row because it was that good . The icecream had a great texture of the mushroom . Frankie's was a cute little pizza and ice cream shop. Their pizza was fresh and their falafel was decadent. They also serve local wines and I found my new favorite Cabernet Sauvignon called Bontela. For our annual camping trip in Fort Bragg, we always make an effort to go to Frankie's in Mendocino! The inside is small but everyone is so nice inside and they have a good sized menu. Great service.We got the pepperoni pizza and it was so delicious. We were able to get our pizza very quickly with the fact that it was busy! The crust was perfect. I'm a fan of the small pepperoni. It was a little in the greasy side but it was amazing. They have outdoor seating as well which we enjoyed the nice weather and after pizza we got ice cream of course! We have tried Frankies pizza more than once to ensure our findings, were not a fluke. Our daughter has celiacs so we wanted to love it for her. The regular pizza crust is rather dry and the gluten is as well. They have a decent range of toppings and what we tried was tasty.
