    Crispy Chicken Salad

Very thorough menu for breakfast, lunch and now dinner until 7pm. Everything we've had at Windmills had been great and reasonably priced. Not fancy, but very comfortable with friendly staff. Some favorites include: fish and chips, crispy chicken salad, club sandwich, chicken sandwich and more. Large servings usually allow for "doggie bags" for a snack later. Our favorite place for lunch!

Isn't my enchilada pretty! Someone in the kitchen cares a lot about visuals.

My inner 8-year-old girl was soothed and improved by receiving iced tea with no fewer than three garnishes (lemon slice, mint sprig, and maraschino cherry). We fancy! (It was also pretty good iced tea, which is rare.) Ordering an enchilada means I wasn't leaning into their strengths (this isn't a Mexican restaurant), and it was still really tasty in a cheerfully Americanized home-cooking way (which is about what I expected and not a criticism -- I ordered it as comfort food and was comforted). Presentation was beautiful. Service was leisurely but very nice and helpful. I've been wavering between 4 and 5 stars because I don't want to send people here with the expectation that it's high-end cuisine, but I also know in my heart that if I lived in Ukiah I'd be here once a week.

    A delicious sandwich option!

I had the best BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) sandwich on toasted sourdough, and am getting hungry just thinking about it. The service was friendly and fast. This is a really great option in Ukiah!

Windmills Cafe is a decent, old school, basic cafe. The best way to describe Windmills is that they're very similar to a place like Denny's...basic food at a reasonable price. Except Windmills isn't a big corporate chain restaurant. There were a lot of regulars and seniors around in the morning. That usually means cheap prices and friendly service. And that's certainly what I experienced. The food wasn't anything to write home about. But the cost was economical. And the service was very good. The building seems like it's pretty old & dated but it's clean. And that says a lot. I'll take old & clean over modern & dirty any day of the week. As a side note, I really like the local art that's displayed, some of which has prices and is for sale. Specifically, I'm talking about the pencil drawings of Star Roberts (see photo). Star is very talented--amazing stuff! -Daddy Maxx Retro

The food was horrible. My husband and I both got sick after leaving. The pancakes were like rubber. I will say the service was good.

Breakfast was ok. My omelet was Luke warm and I should have asked it to be heated up. The mimosa flight was excellent.

The service was amazing from start to finish. I ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and veggies, which also came with a salad, and everything was cooked perfectly. I was quite surprised at the hike in prices since our last visit, but recognize that everyone is using this opportunity to raise prices. My husband ordered the baby back ribs and I ordered the 4 piece fried chicken dinner. My fried chicken was so overcooked and dried out, I could barely eat it. And the vegetables felt like they had been waved at a heat source and put on the plate raw! My husband's ribs were quite tough on the outside to the point of having to leave the outside two ribs and just eating the inside ribs. Paying $60 for two dinners (no drinks except water) is bearable if the food is edible. This was not. The waitress took our orders, brought the food, never checked in on us throughout the meal and never asked us how our food was (I would have told her if she had asked). Sorry, Stars, another unhappy customer. I agree with Nate R. I do want to support local small businesses, but they have to be worthy of support.

Someone told me to sit where I wanted so I headed outside. A waitress asked me what I wanted to drink and I told her that "I don't know what you have." After a brief wait the menus arrived. Having gluten allergies and not being able to eat raw vegetables, I had some challenges. The waitress was very helpful in recommending the BLT sandwich... I haven't had a BLT in a long time and it was OUTSTANDING! I really needed to eat some vegetables...I asked if I could order the grilled veggies but not on a sandwich (there was a grilled veggie sandwich). No problem! A side of grilled veggies! I also ordered an iced tea. This food was the most delicious I've had in a LONG time! The sandwich was perfectly toasted (lettuce and tomatoes were my treat for the day), the grilled vegetables were delicious and NOT dripping in butter or sauce...just plan!!!, and the iced tea was dark and perfectly unsweetened! Absolutely delicious!!!

When inquired about waiting, staff suggested waiting for an available table inside or dining outside. We opted to dine outside, where two tables were pushed together, one of which was noticeably uneven, resulting in us separating the tables. Despite the outdoor temperature being 80°F, the heaters above us were on, prompting us to request they be turned off, which led to complaints from other patrons. As a 33-week pregnant individual, I became overwhelmed, started crying, and stepped away. Shortly after, a staff member approached, asking if we were ready to order, despite being aware of the circumstances. We chose to leave without dining. Due to this experience, I will not be returning, which is unfortunate, as I genuinely enjoy their food.
