First, their website menu pricing is very out of date. I ordered the New York steak and fettuccine plus a soft drink. The steak was slightly overcooked, and the fettuccine was very saucy, so much so that I wanted to pour some off. Simple traditional diner all the locals come here. For lunch breakfast and dinner. Open late and they serve breakfast all day. Prices are a little steep but big quantities. Unfortunately, we've crossed another Ukiah restaurant off our list of businesses to support. We went to Star's Restaurant on Friday, April 10 for dinner. I was quite surprised at the hike in prices since our last visit, but recognize that everyone is using this opportunity to raise prices. My husband ordered the baby back ribs and I ordered the 4 piece fried chicken dinner. My fried chicken was so overcooked and dried out, I could barely eat it. And the vegetables felt like they had been waved at a heat source and put on the plate raw! My husband's ribs were quite tough on the outside to the point of having to leave the outside two ribs and just eating the inside ribs. Paying $60 for two dinners (no drinks except water) is bearable if the food is edible. This was not. The waitress took our orders, brought the food, never checked in on us throughout the meal and never asked us how our food was (I would have told her if she had asked). Sorry, Stars, another unhappy customer. I agree with Nate R. I do want to support local small businesses, but they have to be worthy of support. read more

We absolutely LOVE visiting this restaurant. Many decades later they're still providing extremely good customer service and DELICIOUS food. One thing for sure, ARRIVE HUNGRY, cause the portions are HUGE! Their menu has something for everybody. Oh, and leave room for dessert, so yummy. The ambiance is family style and VERY clean. Went for dinner. The place is filled with locals, most of them over 70, and probably have been coming in for a long time. The decor is brown and depressingly drab. The whole place smelled musty. Service was actually very good, our waitress checked on us often and the food came quickly. It was obvious that she knew most of the people at the restaurant, and knew their usual order by heart. The prices were, in my opinion, outrageous. It's the type of prices I expect to see in a semi fancy, well decorated, non musty smelling restaurant. $30 for fish and chips? $20 for a burger? $20 for a salad? The food was ok, but not outstanding by any stretch, and definitely not worth the price. The one thing I can say was that one of the dishes came with french fries, and the french fries were nice and crispy and very hot. We arrived the last hour of the day, and ordered dinner. The waitress was nice and attentive, and the dinner was delicious. Not too many people in there for a Saturday night. After dinner, she dropped off the check, and disappeared. We wanted to order dessert, but there was no sign of our waitress anywhere. We flagged down a bus person, who went and fetched our waitress, who looked a little bit annoyed at being pulled out of the back. She gave us a couple of dessert menus and then disappeared again. After 15 minutes of waiting, we grew annoyed and headed for the cashier stand. We told the person (who I think was the manager) that we wanted to order dessert, but our waitress never came back. He just smiled, and said "yeah." Puzzled, I said that I think she forgot about us. He smiled again, and said "yeah." We celebrated my son's birthday at Star's restaurant today. The staff was friendly and genuinely wanted us to have a great experience. The restaurant has a relaxing ambiance. I am an extremely picky eater but I was impressed by the food quality. I ordered the "Star's chicken wrap" and it was delicious! My husband ordered the "Joe's skillet" and he was a happy camper. My daughter ordered chicken fettuccine pasta that came with a side salad-portions are huge! My two boys each had an Oreo milkshake with chicken strips and fries/fruits. Our waitress was a sweetheart, she came out with some of the cooks and sang happy birthday to my son. She also surprised him with a Neapolitan ice cream sundae. I ordered the tri-tip French dip and man...it was delicious! The sandwich was generous with a lot of tri-tip and it wasn't too salty as it is at other places. Yes, it's a bit overpriced, but I was very pleased with the sandwich so I'd say it's worth it. Service is a little slow as we sat outside and had to remind them that we were there so that we could take our order. But once the food came out, we were set and they checked on us one more time. My wife and I were passing through Ukiah on our way north to our son's Thanksgiving celebration and we stopped at Star's for lunch. This is a good restaurant with a large menu, friendly staff, and tasty food. I was feeling like only a light lunch and felt like a large bowl of chili. Unfortunately, I did not see it on the menu. I asked the server if they had chili and was pleased that they did (they make it for other dishes as an accompaniment), even though it was not on the menu. It was just what I wanted and very good ($5.45). My wife had the BBQ Chicken Sandwich ($12.55), which she thoroughly enjoyed. (As she does not like pepper jack cheese, they cheerfully substituted it for another cheese more pleasing to her). For dessert, we had a Double Fudge Cake ($6.50), that was a huge slice of a rich chocolate experience with delicious fudge in it. The price of coffee seems a bit high ($3.25, more than Starbucks for a brewed coffee), but they generously filled my wife's travel coffee container at no extra charge. The next time we are passing by at mealtime, we will be back to try some of their other offerings. read more

There was no potato left in there it was just hard and crunchy. The wrap was loose and sloppy with more sauce than anything else. It seemed like it was salad with bacon bits that they just wrapped up in a tortilla. The bacon bits were more like crumbled up bacon bits that you buy from the grocery store other than real cooked bacon. I really don't see how they can charge almost $20 for that crap. I do not recommend and will not be going back. I would give zero stars if that was an option. It seems like this place is trying to make a profit rather than serve decent food. They offer crayons, a coloring place mat and kids menu -- so it's the perfect place to go to if you have a rowdy bunch of munchkins. We're also always seated instantly, so no waiting or standing around which is a plus! Sat at the table completely ignored for over a half hour before I even got the chance to order. Then it took about 45 minutes to get the food. Of course the waitress had to argue and tell me I was wrong and that I hadn't been waiting for that long, as if I don't know how to read a clock. Once I finally got the food, she apologized for the long wait (which she denied prior to that), before getting rude again. When I go spend money in an establishment, arguments and poor service is not usually on my to-do list. When the food came, it was undercooked and seemed thrown together with very little care.
