Issuing a rare 5 stars here, but The Beehive is truly special. On our low-stimulus, off-the-grid vacation, a trip down from the mountain had us stop in for a late lunch/early dinner right at 4pm. We couldn't have prepared for the quality, and memorable nature of the meal we were served. Cannot recommend this enough for readers. Arrival and Seating: First, the welcome was warm and the service attentive--even at the start of the shift with a lightly-staffed crew. We were greeted in a warm manner by a fellow wearing a SF Giants cap (always a good sign), and invited to choose our table. We sat indoors on a warm day (it was about 95ºF) window-side, and enjoys wicker and bee-themed decor. The chairs had a relaxed shape that had me slouching (in comfort) immediately. Drinks: As I was driving, my partner ordered to his palate--which included two mezcal drinks. The first was the Tropical Storm, which had a great balance of passionfruit, pineapple and lime against a well chosen mezcal--smoky, but not acrid as can sometimes burden the spirit. The second bevvy was the She Devil and was a spirit-forward drink combining smoky mezcal and Xila with herbaceous Strega and Aperol (or Amaro in course case), balanced against lime. All delicious, as I confirmed with poison-tester sips. Tapas: We compared the tuna; on the Smoky Ahi Tuna, the flavor of mezcal was incredibly unique; on the Chicharrón de Aton, the texture of the fried tuna was nice and chewy, along with a spicy Fresno chili garnish. Entrees: My partner had the burger, which was juicy and served evenly cooked for medium--which we found desirable. An unlikely star on the plate, however, was the papayas braves substituted as a side. Their sweet berry glaze (blackberry?) made them almost like candy, and was perfectly balanced with a chèvre aioli. I went with the Chicken Poblano Pasta (never had fettuccine with corn sauce, I thought), and whoo boy was I in for a treat. The sauce was verdant on account of the poblano pepper, which lent a great flavor. Balanced against it was the corn, which was both grounding and provided a pesto-like texture. It was a hearty proportion with the large grilled chicken breast, but we came hungry and I left no crumbs. Last Thoughts This modest little restaurant in a modest little Northern California town was so good it became a memorable experience in itself on our modest little vacation. This place is at a beautiful location. I love that there is an upstairs and it has a nice rustic feel, like a barn house. We ordered several things, including patatas bravas, glazed pork belly, beet salad (but that didn't arrive and we were okay with that since we were full), chicken poblano pasta, chicharrón de atún, and the grilled octopus. The food came out very fast which is great but I do wish there was more spacing between the dishes. The entrees came out at the same time as the tapas. We had about 5 plates at the same time so that was overwhelming. I'd recommend spacing it out so it's not too overwhelming. Staff were very nice and the food was flavorful. The glazed pork belly was my favorite. The peanut sauce with sweet jelly were amazing! I thought the patatas bravas were interesting. It has a bit of a kick which is settled by the sweetness of a red wine sauce. The flavor was okay for me, but these were a unique version of patatas bravas that I haven't had. The grilled octopus was delicious and perfectly cooked. I think the olives were good though I was trying to think of what else it could pair with since it may work better as an appetizer than an entrée. I loved the chicharrón de atún and the pasta was very flavorful. Overall, we had a tasty experience. They had unique menu items. The bill came out to around 95$ (if you pay with a credit card you get an upcharge). This place has been open for 2 to 3 months so it's very impressive the menu items that they have and the flow of the items. read more

I missed my exit and decided to look for some local spots. I'm so glad that I checked this place out. The crew was friendly and you could tell that they enjoyed working there. The atmosphere reminded me of an old tavern with all the furniture being wooden and rustic. Their cocktail menu featured some clever options based around the bee theme (I loved the killer bee). The menu appears to rotate a little bit since some options mentioned in other reviews weren't present. But what they offer all looked amazing. If you're a local and you haven't been here then I'd be concerned. But if you're passing through the 101, make sure to stop by and try them out. read more

Don't go to this place unless it is buzzing. Apparently that's the condition that makes this place work according to all the other reviews. We came when all the bees were gone. It was a Wednesday just before noon, there was one table there already, and we ended up as the only diners. It must be the case that the bees that make the ambiance, because when we walked in it had the top end of the cafeteria look for its chairs and tables. The service was attentive, but there was always 'something' that made me on edge. Maybe it was the heavy amount of fruit flies, or the sneezing and coughing coming from the kitchen, or maybe the oom-pah Mexican music (which I generally love) which was a total disconnect in a Spanish Tapas place. Where was the nylon string guitar music? In all fairness the food saves this place. A solid 4 star that can be described as 5 stars. If I lived in Ukiah, I would go back when the bees are buzzing. Every dish felt thoughtfully crafted -- crispy wings with incredible house-made sauces, sliders layered with bold house-made BBQ flavor, vibrant ceviche loaded with octopus and fresh produce. Arugula was fresh but quinoa was about a teaspoon worth and very little mango on the salads (my husbands salad had even less, not consistent). Dressing had very little flavor. Chicken was served on a separate plate instead of on the salads, which I found very unusual. There was not a wine list, I had to choose from the waitresses hand written list (not a good way to choose a wine). Chardonnay was sub-par. It's just microwavable food served for you save your time and your money and just get the same frozen food at home all of their food comes from Sysco in little frozen prepackaged bags. My wife and I took some friends to dinner here. We arrived early (around 5 p.m.), and the place was almost empty. The service was very good. The music was so loud it was hard to hear each other and talk. We tried the Pulled Pork Sliders. There were four of us, and they brought us three sliders without mentioning that they came as three. That seemed foolish, to say the least. The sliders were OK, but the buns were tough and not as fresh as they should have been. The pork was tough (which is hard to do with pulled pork since it is almost always tender). For our main courses, our friends had Chicken Piccata and seafood stew. They both liked their meals. My wife had Chicken Alfredo. She said the chicken was good but that the noodles and sauce were only so-so. I had Prime Rib Steak. It was extremely thin (about 1/2") and very fatty for a prime rib. The sauces were good, but for $50, it should have been much, much better. First, go with a better cut of prime rib that isn't so cheap and thin. The potatoes were OK, but certainly not great and the same was true of the vegetables. The dessert menu was a disappointment. Too many restaurants offer creme brulee as an option, and I don't think I have been to a nice dinner restaurant in the last several years that didn't. It's not that I don't like it. I just find it a typical, run-of-the-mill choice. The Beehive only had four desserts and two of them were creme brulee, so they really only had three choices. We decided to share the two creme brulee choices, and no one was impressed by either of them all that much. They were OK at best. I would really like to see nice dinner restaurants offer choices that aren't available everywhere else (and more than three choices). Our bill was almost $300 for four people (including tip), and our meal certainly wasn't a $300 meal. I would like to see this place make it, but I doubt they will unless they improve their food and lower their prices to something more realistic for Ukiah. There are several restaurants in town that are as good or better at lower prices. read more

Great new place in Ukiah! I tried three of the amazing cocktails (best mixology north of Geyserville!) and my husband has a pils. The food was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The menu is relatively urbane for Ukiah, lots of chi chi dishes I usually only see in Healdsburg or SF. Picking what to order was hard because everybody looked pretty awesome but we started with some staples - pulled pork sandwich and shrimp in garlic and white wine sauce, served with spinach and artichokes. Looking forward to going back door the octopus (grilled or tostada, still can't decide) or one of the many ahi dishes. Love the upgrades on the upstairs space, made it feel like a getaway spot. The service was fantastic, with the servers clearly happy to be there, enthusiastic about the menu, friendly and attentive to patrons without being obtrusive. The waitress had an attitude. Everyone had empty water and drink glasses and she couldn't care. My Aunt asked for a lemon for her water. The waitress delivered it in her hand and dropped it in the water. If we asked for a refill, we received a huff, an eye roll and told it wasn't her job to fill the water. I'm sorry that we don't know your hierarchy. Just fill the damn water. The waitress asked what we thought of the food. We told her. She got even more of an attitude. If you can't handle the feedback, don't ask. The food was not good. The garlic fries were greasy and limp. The burger was tasteless and underprepared. The tapas dishes were horrible. Placing odd elements on a pepper isn't fine dining. It was gross. I understand that the beehive is new, and they have big growing pains. Great wings and french fries. They serve a lot of of small plate appetizers that are easily shared. They have a full bar with a happy hour from 3 to 6. I believe. The staff there is very accommodating and the place has easy access for people with disabilities. We had a very peaceful and relaxing time there. Here in Ukiah visiting and went to this restaurant to meet up with some old friends. Food was ok, wait staff was good but around 9:30 a big group of guys came in and took over the sound system and started playing some awful music. When I asked one of the staff members if the music could be changed, I was told that one of the guys that had arrived had the codes to the sound system and had taken control of it so there was nothing they could do. The guy with the codes even offered to pay the staff to keep the control....so we left. I dont live here, but I have family here and visit periodically I can safely say I will not be going to this restaurant again and I will not be recommending it to other. read more
