Ellie's Mutt Hutt was a really cute little spot! It was unclear where the entrance was and I immediately felt like I came in the wrong door and was in the way. Someone told me to sit where I wanted so I headed outside. A waitress asked me what I wanted to drink and I told her that "I don't know what you have." After a brief wait the menus arrived. Having gluten allergies and not being able to eat raw vegetables, I had some challenges. The waitress was very helpful in recommending the BLT sandwich... I haven't had a BLT in a long time and it was OUTSTANDING! I really needed to eat some vegetables...I asked if I could order the grilled veggies but not on a sandwich (there was a grilled veggie sandwich). No problem! A side of grilled veggies! I also ordered an iced tea. This food was the most delicious I've had in a LONG time! The sandwich was perfectly toasted (lettuce and tomatoes were my treat for the day), the grilled vegetables were delicious and NOT dripping in butter or sauce...just plan!!!, and the iced tea was dark and perfectly unsweetened! Extremely dissatisfied with Ellie's Cafe, I made a reservation for 6 people at noon on my birthday, only to find no available seating upon arrival. When inquired about waiting, staff suggested waiting for an available table inside or dining outside. We opted to dine outside, where two tables were pushed together, one of which was noticeably uneven, resulting in us separating the tables. Despite the outdoor temperature being 80°F, the heaters above us were on, prompting us to request they be turned off, which led to complaints from other patrons. As a 33-week pregnant individual, I became overwhelmed, started crying, and stepped away. Shortly after, a staff member approached, asking if we were ready to order, despite being aware of the circumstances. We chose to leave without dining. Due to this experience, I will not be returning, which is unfortunate, as I genuinely enjoy their food. read more

Sadly, I have to update my review and not for good reasons. Ellie's is still a unique restaurant with incredible wait staff and great food; however, two things have changed, which have caused me to lower my review score. First, they have raised their prices several times and are now one of the more expensive restaurants in Ukiah. While that is somewhat understandable, given that food prices have increased, they have more recently started cutting back on portion sizes (known as shrinkflation) on some of their products. My wife and I got our usual to-go order recently, Brown Rice and Tofu, and I got the BBQ Chicken Salad, but my order was in a smaller container (which is new) and was much smaller than usual. Raising the price AND lowering the portion size is unacceptable to me. I will be going to Ellie's a lot less often from now on. read more

4 stars seems about right. The dark wood furnishings and lighting make it feel like a tavern. I only ever get the chicken and brown rice and the butternut squash soup which are superb. The front of house employees are mostly if not entirely young people, college age-- maybe the occasional high schooler entering the work force. Customer service is fine overall. :) read more

Ordered x2 orders of Chicken and Rice, along with x2 Cookies and x2 Original Smoothies. The food came or good as normal, but the server forgot our cookies and our smoothies. When we brought it up to the staff they were rude and acted like it was our fault that the cookies and drinks didn't come out. It took until we were done with our meals that the smoothies finally came out. When we asked for them to be removed from the bill they refused unless they took the smoothies back, adding to the lack luster experience. We waited an additional 15 minutes for the manager. I just can't with this service anymore!! Each time I come for dinner it is the absolute WORST SERVICE and this was my 5th visit that ive felt the same way and tried to give them another chance. My dad lives far from me, and I made the mistake of taking him out here right before we were about to leave for our father's day weekend trip we had been planning for months. Instead of being able to go on our trip, my 68 year old dad had the worst food poisoning of his life eating here and had to spend the night in the ER. He is still recovering days later and having side effects after being discharged. He ate the Tofu and avocado salad with dressing. I ate the same salad, but without the dressing, and did not get food poisoning. So our thoughts are they serve contaminated dressing with their salads, but it could have been something else they serve. Please just be careful eating here. I called and alerted them to this issue, they took my name and phone number but did not call me back. That seems pretty uncaring about their customers to me. If I wasn't with my dad to get him help and he was alone, he may have died from dehydration and complications with his COPD that were aggravated by this food poisoning. I'm not one to leave reviews, especially negative ones, but this was a very serious medical emergency and I don't want anyone else to go through anything similar. read more

Taking off one star because my mom had to wait for her sliced bread to come to finish her food. She received it cold and after I had to get up and stand at the counter and be turned away because the cooks were slammed with orders. She proceeded to finish her meal without the bread since the rest of us were done eating for a while now. Then the bread came. My mom isn't one to complain so I'll do it for her. Overall the food was delicious and the fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious!! I don't mind paying for delicious food! Staff was friendly and bilingual. We left our plates spotless! I've always loved your tofu spud but this was unpleasant verging on disatrous. It used to be a nicely baked spud with tofu, melted cheese, green onions, etc. but now it is an a mostly hidden baked potato covered in so much brown rice that is really is a rice dish instead of a baked potato. I didn't mind paying $14 for what I though was your tofu spud, but what I got was a huge mess of rice resulting in a plate that could feed three people if they loved brown rice. C'mon, people--potato is a starch, rice is a starch, so can't we get one or the other and not have to overload on both or pick through the excess to find the potato and the tofu which is what I really came for??" TL:DR - Great casual lunch spot, not great for a quick take out though. Marinated chicken wrap came recommended and it delivered. Soft pita, flavorful chicken and dressing. Ham and cheese tasted fine but a bit over priced for what it was. ------------------------------------------------------------- Came here on a recommendation from someone at a nearby winery who recommended the marinated chicken wrap, and man was she right! The marinated chicken wrap was amazing and was a very large portion. Not sure what it was marinated in, but was flavorful with a bit of an outer crust that worked well with the lettuce and honey mustard dressing. The wrap is super soft and chewy and the honey mustard was light and on the sweeter side, but not overly so. All in all, this all worked together perfectly. We also got a ham and cheese sandwich was a bit underwhelming, however. It was about the same price as the marinated chicken wrap, but was literally just a few slices of ham, cheese, and bread for about $12. It's a ham and cheese. Outside of that, this place occupies a weird spot where it's not quite fast casual but not quite sit down? It reminds me of a Perkins or Dennys without the booths. You order at the counter like a fast casual spot, but the interior is much nicer and cleaner than a Panera. But then it took quite a bit to get my take out food (about 15 min) after ordering. Cute little place inside, great menu and everyone loved their food. Mine was just ok. I ordered the brown rice and tofu plate and all though I ate it, it was very salty. The tofu was sautéed in soy sauce which kind of ruined what could have been a great dish. Had some vegis, added feta cheese, tahini. The portions were huge and the staff was extremely on top of things. Giving them 4 stars because I believe I will order the same thing next time but request a a small modification in mine, and overall it was a great experience for all of us read more

Now this place!! This place is the Bees Knees. It's got a bunch of junk on the menu, but I have only ever got Chicken and Brown Rice. It's the best thing in all the land! You can also get it with tofu if you're feeling extra adventurous and want to skip the meat and pretend like you're healthy. Here's a tip for the rest of your life: sour cream can be replaced with plain Greek yogurt and it tastes exactly the same (better, if you ask me), and it's way healthier! YOU'RE WELCOME! We live out of town but over the last 4 months we been to Ukiah many weeks in total. The Mutt Hut has been one of our favorite restaurants. It has a big variety of choices and the food tastes amazing. We're a big family and have eaten almost everything on the menu. Food was brought but no salsa. Suffered through the dry baked potato. Couldn't get attention for salsa or drink refills. When we were essentially done our 'server' swings by to check on us - why bother now? Then came the check. The server back up brought us a refill after clearing our plates. Not only is the food amazing, the staff is incredibly attentive. That is a difficult thing with a party of 12. We had Joes Special, Eggs Benedict (Sundays only), sausage and biscuits, country scramble, pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage, Philly Cheesesteak, and French dip! Everyone was very happy and full. We stopped by Monday afternoon on our way back to the bay area. The place was about 50% full, we decided to dine in. Service was great! we ordered the chai latte and it came out quickly in a huge mug, it was a very comforting drink. I ordered the grilled cheese and a cup of black bean chilli. Both items were great! The chilli even comes with tortilla chips. service was a little slow but they mentioned that on a notice outside, so we expected that. Restrooms are outside and they give you the lock code. Wifi is apparently only for the front register (?) which was a bummer. I would stop here again during a non-crowded time, our meal was just perfect. read more

Ellie's Mutt Hut is a Ukiah staple! When I lived in Northern California, it's safe to say I ate here at least every other week and sometimes more! LOCATION: On the corner of South State Street and Freitas Avenue next to Beverly's Fabrics. They have a small parking lot adjacent the building. There is however a larger parking lot to the southwest off Freitas. SPACE: The space is def smaller - so you may have a bit of a wait if you choose to dine in. They have a great enclosed patio space and a handful of tables inside. EATS/SIPS: My personal recommendation is the #12 - Grilled Assorted Veggies sandwich. So delish! Grilled assorted veggies, mayo, and feta, on a wheat bun. Yum! Top it off with a Chai Milkshake. Perfect! SERVICE: Staff is always friendly and while the orders can take a bit more time, it's totes worth it! While I don't find myself in Ukiah as much as I'd like anymore - I know when I do I'll be grabbing some eats at Ellie's Mutt Hut for sure! read more
