I had a nail that was in terrible shape (the acrylic was stuck to my nail and pulling on it as she tried to take it off) and she made sure to take her time and be super gentle, keeping me as comfortable as I could have been. She also did an incredible job, on then rebuilding that nail, and the overall manicure itself. The older lady technician is someone to steer clear of if you can avoid getting her. She is not that nice & doesn't do a very good job. The massage is short & just to spread lotion around. She'll even pretend she's putting polish in the edges of your nails with the sweeping motion that doesn't touch at all. She doesn't smile or seem to like what she's doing. Someone else after me asked her how she was, she said tired, then she was asked if her day was ending & she said no, she was just starting. That stopped the talking. read more

This used to be my favorite nail salon. I just left and I am so unbelievably pissed and disappointed. At the end of my appointment, I tipped the girl who did my nails. She then proceeded to accuse me of taking tips from another client and giving it back to her!(???) She said that the cash was sitting on my chair and that I took it, rather than getting the cash from my purse like I did. This was the WORST nail salon I have ever been to! The women were rude and didn't care to even speak to me. The lady who then did my pedicure did a very poor job- she was lazy and rushed through it. When she finished she didn't even say anything she just got up and walked to the other side of the salon sat down and put her headphones in. Absolutely terrible service here. I went in for my first dip manicure. Not only did my technician slice my finger open with the cuticle cutters (and seemed not to notice?!) and continue to shave over it with the electric shaver; he repeatedly messed up two of my nails. Instead of removing the polish and starting over, he painted the nails over and over again causing an extreme build-up of powder that made my nails look like actual bubbles. I had to go to a different technician upon him finishing and ask them to fix it. As I mentioned, this was my first experience with dip powder, but I shouldn't have to instruct my manicurist on how to do their job. I thought four layers of dip on each nail was normal, come to learn it shouldn't be more than two. The whole manicure (that I hated) took TWO AND A HALF HOURS. I missed a vital work deadline due to their incompetency and inattention to detail. All of the nails are jagged and poorly done upon closer examination. I'm so confused about the negative reviews. I've been coming here since I moved to Boulder 5 years ago, almost every 2 weeks. I've not once experienced anything other than a great manicure at a great price by the sweetest couple and their staff. I've been to this salon 3 times, each time the experience has gotten worse. Today I decided would be my last time. The staff is not very friendly. More so the women than the men. They speak to each other in another language in front of you, while looking at you and clearly speaking about you. Ok. That's it. I'm finished. I have been going to this nail salon for a couple of years now and the service and quality have been slowly deteriorating. Today was the final straw. I paid for an upgraded "spa pedicure". The service was hardly different from the regular pedicure (though $10 more) and the effort was lack luster and perfunctory to say the least. Worse, I wanted to transition from gell to regular paint on my toes. The paint was never soaked in acetone, instead the tech sanded all the color off, leaving the nail rough and uneven. I should have stopped the tech but I didn't know what to say. Then the paint job looks like a an elementary school child did it. It is gloppy and uneven. I'm terrified that the tech really damaged my nails with the sanding. I'm going to have to go in to another nail salon tomorrow to get a paint change and to see what the real damage is. I've been to Star Nails on Baseline twice now. I'm pleased with their Gel Manicure. I recommend Dat, one of the male nail techs. He's relatively easy to talk to, and he's very competent. Unlike some of the other nail places, they have relaxing music playing instead of the TV. They have a sign posted thay says that while they do take credit cards, they prefer cash to keep the prices down. $30 for gel manicure. read more

I've gone here a few times for shellac, and been fairly pleased. However, I went for a simple full set last week and was very disappointed. I asked her to go very short, and she kept them longer than I have ever had, despite me asking again to trim them. Two of the nails were not straight, and nearly all have dozens of air bubbles. When I went home, I filed them down, but couldn't do anything about the bubbles. Not the best experience ... Pedicure looked pretty good, but I wouldn't come here unless you're in a pinch. I was rushed the whole time it made me feel uncomfortable and my sister was given a service by someone who looked 17 that didn't know what she was doing.... My sister got scrub with no lotion and I got lotion with no scrub. Sanitation seems to be an issue... No soap when cleaning out the tub for the next customer. Hope this helps! read more

I have been coming here for years and thought they did a great job. I have always had the same person do my nails, but today a different technician did. I had finally grown out my nails to the length that I wanted and I asked her multiple times to keep the length. She didn't listen the first time because she was on the phone which I wasn't happy about. I asked her a second time and she just nodded blankly. I continued on with listening to music and didn't really pay attention, and when I looked back down at my nails, they were so short I was surprised they weren't bleeding. She was also very aggressive on my nails to the point where it hurt, something that I have never had happen. They do look decent besides the length, and I realize that it may have just been this one person, but I am not planning on going back there any time soon. read more

I am sooooo picky and particular about my nails. I have to say I have never had anyone paint my nails so well and with such precision as Tea. I have only stopped in there randomly as I have a few go to spots. Through this last year both of my favorite locations have really been slacking so I go to Tea to fix their work. She is always sweet, does exactly what I ask, and I never feel rushed. It is very low key, and a great hide away for someone like me who is working with people all day. The staff is friendly and they can usually get me in right away even without an appointment. I used to come here in college ages ago, but hadn't been since I graduated about 8 years ago, so I checked Yelp before heading over. I don't know what happened, but this did NOT live up to its 4 star aggregate rating. I needed a gel mani, and they were able to take me right away. Great color selection, almost overwhelming, but I found something I liked quickly. My manicurist was fairly rude from the start. She had earbuds in, and was taking phone calls throughout. I had to ask her to file my nails (which she did poorly and as if I offended her by asking). She barely let the base coat cure on one hand before pulling it out of the light, and then put some very thin coats of color on, somehow managing to jostle my hand and getting it on herself. The "massage" portion took about 60 seconds total, and then she rushed me out. In total, I was there for about 20 minutes, which is insane. I got home (which is not in Boulder, I just work there), and noticed that she had let some base coat get on my skin around my thumb and it was peeling up. Some of my nails were filed unevenly and in general felt quite thin. I'd go back, but I'm not driving 20 miles. $30 isn't a bad price, but I got what I paid for. I won't be back. read more

I went to star nails because I received a gift certificate. The atmosphere is nice considering it is in a strip mall, it had a spa feel to it. The staff was all unfriendly, except one lady who I had for my pedicure. As far as the pedicure goes, my water was cold- I asked for it to be heated and she barely adjusted it. The second time I asked she ignored me. The massage was great, however, I paid for the spa pedicure and didn't receive everything that was suppose to be included. She also did my hot lotion before my scrub- making the lotion pointless. I also got a manicure, she cut my cuticles too short causing bleeding. The thing that determined that I will not be returning was as I was receiving my manicure, they sat a lady in the same pedicure chair I had without cleaning it out first. -mind you, there is 7 empty chairs they could have chosen from... some say you pay for what you get, I would definitely recommend Alexander Nails on baseline and foothills- same prices and a much friendly staff and great pedicures. read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. While attempting to chose a nail color, the lady stood over me trying to choose one for me and speed up my decision. All the while, the store is empty. They were not in a rush. After I told her I would come get her when I got a color, she came back 3 more times telling me to choose a certain color. I choose a dip nail color that was clearly a bright blue with sparkles. My nails now look like a clear (I can see my own nail beds through this dip nail color, which is not how dip nails work unless I choose clear) ugly purple/grey color. They remind me of the ugly jelly shoes kids wear. I explained my frustration to them, and they still made me pay full price. I will not be going back here. This was my first time here. Typical nail joint, with staff speaking loudly in either Korean or Mandarin...certainty not relaxing at all. But I'm used to this from NYC nail joints. What made this more unpleasant was my manicurist (a tattooed gentleman) was a little rough grabbing my feet in and out of the water, etc.....despite my objections. Only giving 1 star because ZERO stars isn't an option. This is my 3rd time at this salon and each time was a disappointment. I decided to give the salon the benefit of the doubt by trying at least 3 nail technicians. Although the first two techs were very nice, their work was rushed and sloppy. My nails weren't prepped properly for a gel manicure. Not much care was given to my cuticles resulting in the gel peeling near the base after the second day. Polish was applied to close to the base and touching my skin!!! WORST PART - THEY DO NOT STERILIZE TOOLS and they re-use sponges/scrubbers for pedicures!!! This place is completely UN-SANITARY!!! This past 3rd visit will be my last. The tech cut me causing 4 of my fingers/cuticles to BLEED! While I was washing my hands I watched her run the cuticle cutter and tools under water, go back to our station and place the tools right back into her drawer. At the end of my manicure I quietly and politely asked her if they sterilize tools after each client. She looked me directly in the eye, smiled and said "yes, of course!!! After each person!" I then politely responded and said "ok, that's good. I was bleeding quite a bit so I wouldn't want the next person to use the same tools without proper sterilization." My advice - AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! read more

This place is terrible. I was rushed when trying to pick out a color for my toes, the man who worked the front was annoyed that I wanted to make sure my toes matched my shellac. Even when requesting warmer water for my pedicure, they still wouldn't get it to the temp I wanted. I stopped asking because I felt like I was being a huge inconvenience. I asked for a 3rd coat to cover a bruise on my toenail and the woman refused, telling me a cheesy flower was the only thing that would cover it. She wouldn't even try a 3rd coat until I told her I'd do it myself. My scrub was weak, my paint job was awful. I had paint all over my toes when I left and my layers of paint were uneven. Yes the place is clean but the service and skill is awful. She even handed me only $5 bills back for my change- like I was going to give her a nice tip after a terrible job.
