On 10/24/26, my friend and I went in for pedicures. We opted for the deluxe pedicure. They had used White-Out on the pricing sheet so the price $47 did not match what I had seen online $45. (I pointed this out, but they didn't seem to understand.) The staff were really nice and I was a little out of it, just having had hip replacement surgery. Neither of us got a top coat!! And the nail techs did not get the entire toe nail and certainly did not get the outside edge. Two days later, my right big toe had very little polish on it bc of no top coat. After ~3 years with Star Nails, I have to say goodbye as I relocate. I have been seeing Helen about once a month since August 2020 and she has never failed to create the designs I imagine. This salon is immaculate (constantly sanitized), the staff is welcoming, and all their products & technology are high-quality. One of my favorite things is the absence of acetone filling the air. There are always diffusers with different oils and it is the only salon I have left without a headache. Additionally, if you are someone who hates blasting music, this salon plays background acoustic music to help soothe you. Helen is my favorite nail technician and I doubt I'll trust another technician with my nails again. She is always so friendly and talkative, and as students, we share similar experiences. Not only does she NAIL all the designs I throw at her, but she also embraces each new challenge and never fails to surprise me with her attention to detail. Helen actually recommended dip manicures to me after she found out I was a nail-biter and hated acrylics with tips. Along with Helen, the team is always welcoming and interactive. Every time you walk in you are greeted, you sign in, and then you choose your colors. If you are a very particular person about exact colors, this is your place! I have never had an issue finding the exact color I wanted. Regarding times and days, I recommend going during the week, preferably before Friday and in the morning (right as they open) on weekends. I also recommend booking appointments depending on the time of month/closer to special events and holidays to ensure your spot. Walk-ins during busier days can get rather backed up and having an appointment gives you priority. These are always my real nails, with the exception of occasional tips to level out my broken nails. I've been to dozens of nail salons with various problems that kept me from being a repeat customer: poor customer service, health code violations, bad technique or application, etc. However, Star Nails is a superb salon! My go to technician is Nathan, who is not only good with conversation and genuine connection, but amazing with gel polish application. My gel nails, which used to last only a week or so when I went to other salons, last up to 3 or 4 weeks when I go to Star Nails. (I always get 122, Soft Pink, such a gorgeous color!) While you most likely won't be able to walk in for a service without an appointment due to how busy the salon gets, I really recommend trying this salon out! read more

I've gone to Star Nails three times now and they've always been on time and very kind. The salon itself is very relaxing and I enjoy my time there. I've gotten pedicures and dip powder manicures. Don has done my manicure twice and it's been amazing both times. The really cool thing about Star Nails is they also have LOTS of color options for dip manicures and can make anything into an ombré. Don just did this amazing swirl art using gels on top of my dip yesterday--coolest nails I've ever had. Best place in Boulder. I give this place 5 stars for a few reasons, first and foremost is that my first shellac (gel) manicure from this place has lasted THREE WEEKS. I'm posting a pic 3 weka to the day from my mani. Hygiene gentleman who did my nails took his time and did a beautiful French gel on my very short and weak nails. It has grown out beautifully over the past few weeks. He went very natural on the base coat so the grow out is barely noticeable. He took his time with the gel and gave it plenty of light exposure. I'm convinced that's what made this manicure last. No peeling or chipping in three weeks. He also did a wonderful and relaxing pedicure. My feet still look great. Salon staff was friendly and courteous. I came early day and things weren't too busy. I have tried 5 or so others around the area, and have had issues with everything from nails falling off, color, anything you can think of. Star nails has never been my favorite salon in boulder but today that changed. As of a week ago nail salons were allowed to open and I was a bit skeptic. When I walked in to star nails the first thing they had me do was wash my hands. Everyone wore a mask and only 3-4 stations and tech's were in use. Each station was spread apart and facing each other back-to-back. They also had a glass wall with a small opening at the bottom to slide your hands through. They did an AMAZING job on my nails (I think partly bc they weren't rushed and busy). As I was getting them done a lady was finishing. When she left the tech cleaned EVERYTHING even the chair and got all new tools ready. I'm so impressed with how Star nails is handling covid. My manicure was fine. But the absolute disrespect towards my friend deserves this review. My friend asked for a deluxe pedicure and manicure. Her nail technician LEFT in the middle of her manicure and left her waiting with one coat of primer on for 20 minutes. His colleague took over my friends manicure and then left my friend for a second time and then forgot about her to work on another client. And then she used the wrong color polish which my friend never asked for. She apologized and STILL attempted to get my friend to pay full price for a half finished mani/pedi. I was a loyal client. This was my second time here. This first time I came I got a shellac manicure and they seemed very rushed, even though it wasn't crowded. The manicure chipped the next day and I was going out of town so wasn't able to go back to fix it. The second time I came in for a pedicure and the same thing, a rushed vibe but they didn't appear to be super busy. I asked for an additional coat of polish because it was semi-transparent and I could tell she was annoyed. Even with three coats the polish doesn't look great. I enjoyed my experience at Star Nails. The staff was kind and service was good. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon thinking it may be very busy but they were able to take me right away. You can also call in and make an appointment. Star Nails offer a range of manicures and pedicures, spa manis and pedi, as well as shellac and acrylic nails. They do waxing too. I got the standard manicure and pedicure and thought it was great, the massage was really nice. The spa pedicure is more expensive but if it is nicer than the regular one, it probably feels like heaven. The store doesn't have any TVs like some other nail places. They make an effort to create a relaxing environment with a natural interior and spa music playing all around. My nails looked beautiful afterwards and would definitely go back there when I want some pampering. read more

I love the new "dip" nails technique (in pictures) - extremely durable and more natural feeling and looking. So I have been to this place about 7 times. The first two times were good then I've had bad experiences since. I wrote about one bad experience on yelp and they offered me a free fill next time. When I got the free fill they asked me to delete my previous review. I don't know why I did but I did. This time I was going out of town and asked for a simple design of two blue lines on a white nail. This took over 2 hours to complete and the lines were clumpy and uneven. I had to come back the next day to get them fixed. I came back with my own nail stickers to do a even simpler design. She messed up two of my stickers and couldn't do the design so I had her just paint it blue. When she repainted she did a bad job. She decided to repaint all of my nails and got dust under the polish. The acrylic is also super thick. I'm definitely going to have to get them redone on my vacation. I also tried to get a pedicure the first day but since they took two hours on my nails they told me to come back for it. What a waste of 60 bucks. read more

They started on my friends nails while I sat there being ignored for 26 minutes until someone asked me what I wanted done. There was about 10 other people walking in and they were just sitting, being ignored. While my friend was getting her nails done at a reasonable pace, my nails we getting rushed and turned out uneven. My gel manicure is peeling off, it's been 2 days. I really wanted to have an experience here where I could give it a five star review. I saw the negative reviews and believed that I'd have a different experience, but unfortunately I did not. Perhaps it depends on your technician, but mine was not great. She was on the phone while doing my nails, was strangely rough with my hands where it actually hurt (an experience I've never had before), and the end product looked like I did it myself.
