Horrible experience from the Print Dept. Discussed a print and laminate project with Joey, he gave me specific instructions for formatting and transferring the image. Came in the next day and found an image half the size smaller and costing $15 more. Angelica, the new person in the Print Dept, said they couldn't do the project as Joey said,and I would have to redo it per her instructions. When I asked to use one of their computers to retransfer the image her way via email, she said they would happily RENT me time on Print Dept computer. So, home I go to resend image with new formatting instructions per Angelica. Guess what? I get a message from her this morning saying the image would not work either and now she doesn't know what to do, why Staples Print Dept Tech can't do what two employees says it can, or why two employees are saying two different things about one project. Spent 2 days with this and sadly have run out of time to get this done. read more

Don't bother coming here, just make the drive down Del Monte to Sand City to Office Depot. I've never gotten what I've needed from this place. They're extremely disorganized, messy, and just plain unhelpful. One thing I've learned in the service industry is never say, "no," yet I get told, "no, sorry, we don't have that," every time I go in. They don't bother to take that extra step. In contrast, the Office Depot is organized, and the workers there know what they're doing. Staples is kind of like the sad, red-headed stepchild of the Monterey Peninsula office supply stores. Unfortunately, this Staples have an employee by the name of Anthony that needs some training in customer service. I bought some cardstock that was buy 2 get 1 free. The store display only had 2 on display, so I asked when I checked out if they had some more in the back or elsewhere in the store. Anthony response was I don't think so. So I asked for a raincheck or what else could I do? He had no answer for me and didn't ask any other employees for assistance. Staples is one of the stores that I go to often. I needed some quarter inch red dots, about 100 or more. The only thing close were some 3/4 inch ones. The assistant manager took me under her wing and looked in the computer for me. She found what I needed and ordered them. They should be in the store tomorrow. That's what I call real good service. It was only a $2.98 purchase but she handled it like it was $298.00. I enjoy this Staples because I'm always in here looking for random stuff and I heart shopping. I used to be addicted but I am in recovery. I cannot believe what I experienced the other day at this particular location. I felt like it was 1987 before "Customer Service" became mainstream. I've always had a pleasant experience here and everyone is always smiling and helpful. I hate to complain but luckily I was in a good mood (well I always am, it's strange) and this didn't bother me but actually made me laugh in disbelief. If it was anyone else, especially someone in a hurry, shit could have gone down. I walk to the cashier and the cashiers there always start up a conversation, "How are you today?" or "Did you find everything okay?" the usual. The lady behind the counter was talking on the phone so I paused and thought it was business realted and I wasn't really in a hurry so I waited. Nothing. I said hello and dropped a few things on the belt and waited until she finished her call. No, "I'll be one sec" or "Hold on." she just started ringing up my goods. Ok. She was talking in Espanol and I used to live in Zacatecas, Mexico when I was 16 (just for a month but you learn a lot living there) so I understood the conversation very well. She was talking to a friend about some dude and how she was going to meet up with her girl riends this Friday... Whaty?!? Exsqueeze me?!? I seriously just smiled, I was so entertained. She was on the Staples phone too! Anyways, she was sweet though, she smiled, rang up my goods and managed to say a few words like "Thank You" while the phone stay squeezed between her neck and ears. pretty average big box type store. the faces of the staff change.....most are friendly and decently aware of stock & sales. I can frequently wander around without being overly bothered by staff breathing down my neck. But they are always close enough if you need them. average checkout counters and checkout times. nothing really wrong with this place but it doesn't have any merchandise or service WOW's. the parking lot is a nightmare! always a ton of trash blowing around as it is next to a McDonalds, Smart & Final and Home Depot....plus its right at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 156. near a starbucks and a huge Embassy Suites to attract folks from out-of-the-area. Be patient. Its prettier and cleaner INSIDE, if you make it..... considering the closest competitor is inside the Costco parking lot in Sand City------neither are easy to get in and out of in a hurry. read more

I've had good luck here for the most part. Angelina (or Angelica?) in the copy center is friendly and helpful. They have a UPS drop off station right inside the store. I will say that their computer "repair and maintenance" service sucks. Don't bother with that. They won't fix anything on your computer but they will, without a doubt, break something else on your computer. This can take your mind off of the original problem you brought your computer in for, so there is that. It's like telling somebody you have a headache so they kick you in the nuts to take your mind off of your headache. read more

Arrived about 40 minutes before closing last night with a print job from my USB with 3 flyer files with detailed instructions. I needed the printed flyers by 8:30 AM today, at the latest. The Supervisor, Angelica, was great. She told me the job would be done about 8 AM, and it was actually done by 8:10 AM. After learning the digital "stamp of approval" didn't print from the PDF on the 1,750 collated printed flyers, she figured out the problem, reprinted the flyers and drove them to me in Salinas (a 25 minute drive). Very disappointed with the customer service at this location. I have worked my fair share of low paying jobs but I never took it out on the customers. I was there tonight 9/6/2018 at around 5:55. I needed to get some booklets made for an event I had the day after. The first woman who attended me (a light-skinned, possibly Latina, bespectacled, brunette) referred me to the self-service. I specified that I needed precise staples in the middle of the booklets and she referred me to the portable staplers. I told her that that would not work, and that I had already had some printed through them before. After some more back and forth of me explaining that their printers were the only ones that could do the job I was told that she could start the job, and that someone else could finish it. That someone else was an elderly blonde woman, who proceeded to say that they were backlogged with 11 orders and that they probably wouldn't get to it that night. I thought this was ridiculous and already made my mind to come another time. She kept talking at me, about her excuse and about how she didn't know how to do the things that I asked, and that her supervisor would know for sure. The supervisor worked the morning after. It would delay everything. I would like to say that a woman, a Mexican woman named Stephanie or Yvette I believe helped me out before and she was relatively new. She was able to do it. If you have new workers that know more about their services than the old workers than you have a problem. This was a complete waste of my time. read more

I wanted to take a quick moment to give my sincere apologies to a bright young man named Delvin or Devon; he is a Tech Expert at the Staples in Seaside/Sand City on Canyon Del Rey. I had an issue with the printer that I had purchased; it was a brother (brand, all in one), and oh what a brother it was; The Brother was affordable; it worked pretty much like crap, it was new, I tried every measure of getting it to work correctly, but there was something that was malfunctioning concerning the feeder picking up the paper adequately. It kept jamming-- Frustrating --- I had purchased a two-year warranty plan; I threw away the box and couldn't find the receipt. I had called before arriving and explained every detail of the situation --- to the T -- before on the telephone to the guy I had spoken to. So that I would run into a problem waste my time or Staples time. Still, most of all express my concern via a telephone call rather than in person because I don't want to look like a demon, which I have been looked liked the n the past based on my conditioning and experience. I got there and explained the prior situation again. Delvin explained that he could not get the merchandise researched but later told me OK, he could issue a credit, which was my intention, and I might have failed to explain that; I got upset at him. He held his composer, apologized to me numerous times, and was courteous, compassionate, and I can say humble. Well done to his mum and dad; you raised him with excellent values and traditions. I can see that he has a unique style, and he has perfect mannerisms. My sincerest apologies for any ill faded comments, demeanor, approach, and reactions. They were not directed towards you; instead, it was referred to the processes of looking up the item, which always should be linked to the UPS code and mapped out to serial number authenticating purchase and my proof of extended warranty, so there's no doubt of any irregularity with the purchase. . I have shopped at Staples and Staples online as well. I will continue to do so only because of Delvin. I could also tell you that during my check out after I exchanged the items, the exchange was not so pleasant, and this was this sales associate who checked me out. I do not recall her name because she did not make a significant impact on me to even look at her name tag; she was not wearing one, and after I could not afford an item as I was on a budget, and asked her to exchange the product for a lesser of the two that I had contemplated on she slammed the article, she was insulting. I guess one can say that had come across as rude to Delvin initially, and she could not be upset about my treatment of Delvin, but that was because of the lack of internal communication that Staples has. I encourage them to all have an email for all associates linked to a dashboard system so that communication concerning customers is channeled properly so that improvements can be made concerning customer recovery and experience, which is the cornerstone for a good experience and lasting relationships from the standpoint of customers and business. I am poor, so I don't have time to waste on products that are garbage. I instead buy something that's quality that costs more but meets expectations and standards. I have learned from this experience. Well done, Delvin. I hope that God gives you everything and anything you desire for yourself. You would make an excellent team leader in coaching as well as an HR Talent Executive. You have a gift, and that's human emotional intelligence and the ability to see and reason. This Staples is a great store - very large! I recently bought my printer here and have used their print shop - which you can just email your printed items to directly. It's right around the corner for my house so when I'm in an emergency for office items I will swing through here because I know they have what I need and it's easy to get in and out of the parking lot. If I plan ahead though, I have to admit that I will go to Walmart and Amazon as they're always less pricey even when Staples has good sales. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I went into staples yesterday looking for a particular brand and size of labels that we need at work. I had just been to Office Depot and had struck out on finding what I need so I was not optimistic on finding it here. I did however find exactly what I needed and it was even cheaper than the other brand that Office Depot had. I went to the check out stand happy that I had found what I needed. I had to wait for a few minutes due to both check out lanes being busy. I switched lanes mid way through waiting and that was a mistake. I thought the lady in front of me was almost done with her purchase; but then she asked if they did stamps. The young kid behind the counter asked "Food Stamps"? Really why would that even come into his mind, its no a grocery store obviously she is asking for postal stamps. After she cleared up the confusion he said he would have to get someone to get the stamps and when she asked how much they were he had to stop and think about it. So again I changed lanes and ended up with a very friendly and competent man as my cashier. They do have more of selection at this store over Office Depot and the prices are reasonable but I wouldn't go here looking for assistance with anything to technical. read more

I've never used yelp prior to this, this is my first review. I don't complain about much but this place pushed me to the edge. A coworker and I purchased a couple of office chairs in this store. After waiting nearly 3 weeks, I called to check on the order and they showed no record of it, after we had already paid for them. I was told to call customer service because the staff in the store had no idea what I was talking about. After waiting on hold for an hour with customer service, I was told the order had been cancelled by the employee who ordered them. Customer service believed I had canceled the order when I didn't, and further suggested that I never paid. After reading them the barcode number on the receipt, they realized I had paid, but were still pretty rude and unhelpful. After dealing with customer service I walked back into the store and had to order the chairs a second time. After waiting an additional week, I came to find out that the wrong chair had been ordered, and needed to be ordered a third time!!! On top of that I was told I would be emailed a coupon for $50.00 off my next purchase as a courtesy for all the mistakes made. I never received any such coupon, I was told it was probably sent to spam mail, which isn't correct. Staples has been sending me other nonsense emails in regards to my order so I know they have my email... They just keep dropping the ball. Bottom line: I will never do business with Staples again... If you need office furniture I urge you to go to Office Depot or even try Costco. Don't waste your time on this place read more

So this is not the first time I have gone to this Staples location and previously it was ok. However, today my experience was downright awful. Let me first of all say, when I was younger I worked in retail and customer service and I know it stinks. However, the way I was treated today was downright rude and I will never use this location again. I went in to have a fax sent (which they always did for me before) and although the rep at the Copy/Fax center had no other customers, I was told it was "self-service" and pointed to the ancient machines. I replied, "I'm not very tech-savvy, is it pretty self explanatory??" and she said yes. Not. I had to wait until her co-worker came back from break and walked up to the counter and asked her co-worker for help. She was a little more helpful than the first lady, but not much. I asked her the same thing about sending a quick fax for me and I got the same reply of pretty much, there's our ancient machine, follow the directions and do it yourself. Nice. Again, there were still no other customers at that point. I really needed to send this fax after making my copies so I proceeded to wait in line for 15 mins behind ONE customer who was having problems with her fax being sent. She said the same thing to me, "wow, there's not much help to be had here, huh??" She was being loud in saying that she didn't know what was going on with the machine and that she felt bad for me for having to wait 15 mins for her fax to maybe go through while the two associates could have easily sent my fax behind their counter and fixed her problem. They knew we were both dissatisfied, but didn't care. So, guess what? I got on my phone called Fed Ex and took the rest of my business there, where they were great! My advice, take your business needs there!! read more

I actually felt like you cared about my business. And I can say this for sure unfortunately if you hadn't been there the gal that was on duty had nothing in mind getting off work and get her paycheck. Every step of the way her answer to me was no. No I can't send you your file by email. Oh yeah will laminate it and I'll turn the machine on because it takes a long time to warm up... half an hour later oh I didn't turn machine on you I'll come back tomorrow! Carlos to the rescue! Not only did he get the job done in the time available which is what I needed in order to go to Farmers Market's tomorrow morning. And the only reason why Student stables designing my posters for almost 2 hours by myself was to take them with me and that wasn't for Carlos that would've never happened. Now Carlos just needs to hire more people like himself! You're the best thank you so much! If you have a small business in the seaside marina Monterey area... TL;DR. The workers are unhelpful and it will take you 20 min or longer to get what you need. Take the time and go to the Office Depot in Sand City. They are the best and will get you what you need. I was in an emergency and I needed two documents printed right away. Usually i go to office depot and get my printing done there because they are really helpful and they help get you what you need in a concise manner. This place, however, does not do that. I thought that I had to go up to the counter and the person would print it for me like at office depot, but to my surprise they had a self-serve printing service. When i asked where I can get my things printed, she abruptly pointed at the station. This technology was completely unfamiliar to me(you have to get a card, put in a dollar, scan a document barcode or usb, send to printer, then go to the printer, and wait ) so I asked for help on how to use it. The lady working behind the counter didn't even bother. I had to ask another customer on how to use it, and he was confused on it as well but after a minute we figured it out. I got my things sent to the printer, and i was waiting on it to print. I called the lady over to fix the problem, and she begrudgingly asked me to print it again. I said I did, so she checked. She said that nothing was sent to the printer. You know that saying the customer is always right? I told her that It was. She then checked and changed the printer cartridge. I sent two copies because I paid for the copies. I got one printed out, but she said I had to re-pay for the second copy (12 cents. Nothing to cry about, but its a waste of time and inconvenient). I entered the store and it was completely empty. There was no line. After 20 minutes, I left with papers in hand. She should have helped me out, but this staples center does not value its customers. I do not recommend this place to anybody. Go and get what you need at Office Depot in Sand City. The employees are smart and know their shit, they will gladly help you out there. read more

THE ONE STAR IS NOT FOR STAPLES IT IS FOR THEIR PRODUCT WARRANTY. I purchase a warranty on my computer in May, 2015. It was good for a year and included replacement of any part, including the hard drive. My computer stopped working and I bought it to Staples. They informed me the hard drive had died and I lost all my data. They told me that they would replace it but I needed to contact the insurance company that had the policy. I said "what insurance company?". You said that if I had a problem you would fix it including the hard drive. WRONG. They had a insurance company provide the coverage so you need to file a claim. The company is called square trade. In theory you call them. then you fax your receipt and ask them and ask them to let you repair it locally. In theory they can ask you to send the computer to them for repair. Hey no body told me about these guys.......I tried to call them and was told.....all lines are busy. Call back tomorrow. Or go on line. I went on line and it was all about signing up for a policy. I went on Ripoff on line and there was Square trade / Staples. Read and weep. I called Staples and gave them a piece of my mind and told them I want to cancel the policy and get my computer back. They wanted $200 for a new hard drive. And they said they will take the cost of the policy and probably prorate it since May.....and take it off the cost of repair. I will go there tomorrow and find out if this is true. The one star is for the warranty. I like Staples and will buy future computers from them. And the Monterey store is a good one. read more
