Came into the store to buy prepaid gift cards. The cashier was super rude. Asked how I was doing, I said good. I asked how he was doing, he said, "I'm alive" in a super grumpy tone. The gift cards I brought up were not eligible for the promotion but I noticed tags for a different variant of the gift card and it said to ask the cashier. So I waited in line again and when I asked, he was super rude again. Would not recommend shopping here if you expect any decent customer service. read more

Customer service was less than helpful. I wanted to laminate a small sign. There were only two people working in that part of the store and each was intently working on whatever they were doing. I had to stand and wait there for quite a while before someone noticed me. When I told them what I wanted, I was told they don't make signs I could make my own if I use their computer and they waved me over. There was no instructions no help. I had to wait again to have someone tell me how to find the print button on the computer. I felt like I was bothering them. No hello how can I help? I won't be going back. Me not knowing anything, as a normal person you ask an employee when entering the store, can you direct me in the right way to tsaPre services. First time ignored, clearly no one here. I say it again and she looks at me with annoyance like I inconvenienced her with a question. I'm sorry don't you work here? So then she proceeded to point to the grey little building in the back. Might state the obvious after sitting here that this building is preTSA - but it doesn't hurt to be nice especially when you're working in customer service. Extremely poor customer service. I arrived early for my TSA PreCheck appointment, there was no one ahead of me, and the employee was not busy. Instead of helping, he refused and said he would only assist me after other people arrived, which makes absolutely no sense. When I questioned this politely, he offered no reasonable explanation and was rude. This experience wasted my time and felt completely unnecessary. Staples' Ridiculous service. I set my 2 used ink cartridges on the counter at checkout and then set down my new ones I intended to purchase for $107. We have a rewards phone number, and you do get a credit of $6 for the old ones. However, the salesperson told me I could not use the credit because I did not hand in the old ones first...What?..He said they will go into my account, but that will take 3 minutes. I did look around, thinking this HAD to be a hidden camera joke. He was serious. There were other customers in the store, and I did not feel like this was worth the fight and holding them up for $6. Yes, I recommend Staples for product selection, availability, pricing and information about their products as well. One time I was at my local store and the information available about the product I was interested in did not cover my question. The sales person immediately called the company making the product, asked my question, told me what she was told, I asked her to ask a few more questions. She did and AFTER I got these last answers I told her YES with the info I now had I'd like to buy the AIO printer/copier/ scanner she'd been helping me with. Staples is my favorite store and I was so sad when my Pittsburg one closed down many years ago. I tried going to a few other Staples near my home, but none of them compare with the Pleasant Hill one. I will always make the drive to that store. The manager Eric is wonderful and has gone above and beyond for me more than once. Lots of useful stuff from desk chairs to pens and generally more reasonably priced than other office supply stores.

This is a general shopping tip....shop online first and check the price. Take a picture of it or do a print screen of the price - especially for ink cartridges as the online price is often times cheaper than the store price. (Price difference could be a few dollars to over $15 depending on the type of ink cartridge.) They will match the online price but you need to ask them to match it. It helps to show them a picture of the online price otherwise they need to check on their kiosk. I've been able to get mostly what I want. Their back to school sales are usually pretty good though they usually have a limit on the number of items you can buy. read more

Part 1 :most racist/ humiliating /and embarrassing experience ever at this store , I still come here on occasion to pick up packing slips and buy supplies for school and almost always come to there clearance section for good finds! I love how they have cleaning supplies so if I forgot something with covid going on I could just pick it up here with no problem . I ship out a lot of things on a website and buy all my supplies such as tape, bubble wrap and I always get packing slips for FREE form there packing a slipping department. TODAY 8/19-2022 at approx 2pm I came in as any other day at any staples and went to their fed ex station where you can drop off packages for shipping where I asked a young or old Caucasian women with heavy makeup and strong eyebrows and a red flower placed on the right side on her head for the clear packing slips customers usually out on their orders to ship out. (Now let's pause - I am a black African American women with a bath towel on my head since I just left the gym, some sweat pants and a mask I will post a photo of what I looked like walking in for you guys) She instantshits me down and says "oh we don't give those out go customers" in a snarky snarly way. So I responded as said oh well that's strange because I come here all the time and get them and I was just here a few weeks ago and got a bunch so I'm confused on what your telling me because I go to numerous staples as I mentioned earlier I ship things out on a public website called Mercari I'm sure some of you are familiar with it . so again she repeats herself and said yeah we don't give them out but you can buy them if you like we sell them right over there near the register. I was lost because they have a register in their area as well as general checkout for all guest so I wasn't sure which register to go to and thought I'd just ask another worker to help me since she was being so nasty Finally I see a white older guy who appears to be a manager and he tells me he is the assistant manager I told him I am trying to obtain some packing slips and I explain to him how rude this lady was being in the FedEx department and right away he took her side and began to tell me that he's sorry about my past experiences at Staples but that they may be doing things differently and just kind of brushed off my past experiences of getting shipping labels for free as if my past experiences were irrelevant to today's experience. The gentleman showed me where the packing slips were but unfortunately they were not the ones I was looking for these were half the size of the ones that FedEx has behind their counter and I needed the long ones so I thought it was funny that nobody could show me where the long packing slips were the manager then goes to the back where the FedEx workers are or UPS I'm not sure I'm very upset writing this email right now and behold he comes from the back with a couple of packing slips and hand them to me and says oh there must've been a miscommunication so now I'm wondering what was the miscommunication because this is exactly what I asked for and I'm not sure how many packing labels you guys have back there but how is it that you go back there and now you are giving me packing slips and telling me there was a misunderstanding I asked him so what was the misunderstanding this is what I asked for and she told me that you guys don't give them away to customers? The guy gets frazzled and doesn't know what to tell me and says oh do you want to talk to my general manager instead?? Yes I would love to talk to your general manager instead because I've been an assistant manager right now and you can't even tell me what the problem is you can't even explain to me what the miscommunication here was because there was no miscommunication and your employee was discriminating against me because of my appearance of when I walked in the store and right away the guy says oh no it isn't that I can almost reassure you it's not that OK well you can't reassure me that but you can't even tell me what the miscommunication was so yes I would like to speak to your general manager. The general manager Danielle then comes over and I explain to her for the third time what is going on she then proceeded to tell me that this young lady with the flower in her head was only doing her job and doing things by the book and that usually they do not give those out for free but that it isn't any skin off her back so she's not worried about it and that they do get them out to customers who frequently come in and shop with them that they recognize and that she's been working there for six months and never has she seen me there before. read more

Whoa. I don't want to fully use names as maybe the lady here was just having a rough day? But good lord. I came in to get some prints done today, bought the paper there as I needed a thicker/colorful version. We've used the machine a few times here for the same exact purpose and prior workers had been super kind and helpful in showing how to get the card stock to feed from a different place to make sure no jamming happens. I wish I had gotten their names to shout them out. Anyway, Alice (name drop sorry I've been told to) was mad from the second we walked up? She was cutting something so after checking the machine and realizing I couldn't remember which one the previous people had told me to use/how to change the feeder, I walked up and was just kindly waiting at the counter. I made sure to smile and look at my phone as I waited it was about 3-4 minutes before she acknowledged me but I was chill, figured she was concentrating. Then when she did acknowledge me she was all "what do you want?!" (Exclamation point for her tone). We told her the situation and she said it wasn't possible. We were like okay thank you, and I figured I'll just try to figure it out myself. Thanked her and went back to the machine. My attempt didn't do much so I figured maybe I didn't explain it right so I had just asked "can you help me change the paper feed location?" And she literally said "what? I thought you came here all the time to do it, you should know then." And yikes. That was a full on "am I being pranked right now?"moment. I had genuinely been nothing but kind and patient as I had just finished my own customer service shift and I get how it can be. But you woulda thought we had a history and she hated my guts personally? It was intense. Anyway, I won't be coming back as now I'm scared that apparently me and this lady have some random beef that I was not aware of? Anyway, the printing services are usually solid here, fast, easy and, before today, pretty kind or at least not angry. You don't have to be chipper but at the very least not mean. Maybe she's just having a rough day, but genuinely that was a horrible experience and I wouldn't recommend others to go here just in case she has another bad day. I am very disappointed with Staples on Contra Costa Blvd in Pleasant Hill. I went every year to Staples to update my McAfee virus. It was always great service especially last year with Roman. Suddenly my computer got very very low and the computer did not work unless connected to power. I brought my computer to Neal who assured me he can fixed the computer being very slow but not the battery. Fine I can always use the computer connected. $109.00 later, I lost some documents which one I worked on for 5 yrs. It still is very slow and I can't download any of the apps which Neal told me I will be loosing but I can redownload them. My question is: did they really know what they were doing? read more

I had hands down, one of the worst customer service interactions with their TSA Pre check staff. The female employee was extremely disrespect and condescending. I had an appointment at 10Am and the employee decided to take a walk in appointment at that same time. This customer didn't even need a TSA pre check and needed some other form completed. After 30 mins of waiting, I asked the employee how much longer, and her response to me was literally disgusting. I have never been that disrespected as a customer in my life, honestly. After not finding the items at Crow Canyon Staples I drove to this Staples store. When I walked inside I was greeted by several friendly employees and they showed me the section where the items I was looking for were located ( at Crow Canyon Staples there was impossible to find a single employee around!) The lady who helped me also talked about their special rewards program and although I had problems with my smart phone Staples application she managed to give me a fantastic rebate on my purchase. I don't remember having such a wonderful and welcoming experience in any store in the San Francisco Bay Area since many years. This clean store and kind employees deserve more than five stars. Warning: You might have a hard time getting out of the parking lot of this location. Pleasant Hill Staples isn't bad. I had gone here to buy sharpies. I got help right away when I went inside. I gone inside to make copies of papers...I even got helps with my copies. I once bought a box of papers and I was even help out by having it loaded into my cart...my back thanks Staples. Parking isn't hard to find. What I found difficult is getting out of the parking lot. With Bank of the America in the shopping center there are plenty of cars leaving the parking lot. I hate to leave a bad review, but this store deserves it. I went here on Monday, May 13, 2019. I had to return a Staples-brand product: a paper shredder. I also went here many times when I lived in the area from 2009-2014. I am a Staples gold rewards customer too. The policy with Staples-brand products is you can return them at any time if you are dissatisfied, even without a receipt. I believe it was a Staples-brand toner cartridge that I didn't open for a year that left a few blank lines down the length of the paper. That is why I buy Staples-brand products if I have a choice. I know they will stand behind their products. Or at least they used to. It seems a few years ago, when they closed some stores and stopped giving out coupons galore, they became stricter. Now some of their employees and some managers are idiots, to be frank. They are now on an Office Depot or OfficeMax level and try to screw the customer over when they can. They apparently changed their policy, but forgot to grandfather their old products in, the ones that were sold to me under their old return policy. So, when I got to the store, when I first got in line, and the employee there said gruffly he couldn't help me without a receipt. I told him I needed to return an item, and, again, he said he couldn't help without a receipt. I again asked for the manager. Deja vu all over again? This employee needs to be either counseled or fired for his horrible attitude. It seemed like he doesn't want to be working there. If I go to this store again, I am going to refuse to deal with him. The assistant manager came and started the return for the USB cord. Since I didn't have the receipt, he asked for ID (which is actually not required for the policy on returns for Staples-brand products) and said I would get a gift card. That was fine. I showed him my US Passport Card. He tried entering that, but said the computer was not taking a passport card. It wanted state ID. He said he understood my passport was official Federal ID, but he said he was at the mercy of his computer. He said he could not override it, even as the assistant manager. So customer are left screwed at those times when the actual manager isn't there? Good job Staples. He said come back in two days, when the actual store manger would be there; and he would have authority to override it, and hopefully would take by paper shredder back too as a courtesy. He said he would leave him a note. I then explained to him I would not be in the area, as I was leaving the next day, and would try another time or at another Staples store. I live in Carson City now, and the Staples there and the one in South Lake Tahoe closed. The ones in Reno are less convenient to me. Ugh. I just feel that ID is ID, whether state or Federal. He should have been able to use a passport, or at least override it as the manager on duty. The cord was worth like $5.99, lol. I am also upset the manager and employee did not know the (old?) Staples policy for return of Staples-brand products that I bought these two items under. Why do I have to keep going back? You can see why Amazon reigns supreme now and Staples is losing ground. The toner cartridge I bought at Amazon last year was only $15, vs. $80 at Staples. The mouse was $5.99, vs. $15 or so at Staples. Amazon also has superior customer service, which is available 24/7. I've been patronizing this specific location for a couple years now, and I cannot say enough GOOD about this store BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE WORKING HERE. People can either make a place, or break it. Speaking from numerous times of being in here to make copies, buy items for work, or for students I tutor, or big projects, I always feel those working here are RELIABLE and KNOWLEDGEABLE.
