If I could give a -5!!!! Do not waste your time with this business. I called in to find out about this place because they were close by and I wanted to have my eyes checked! I was told there was a special for $59.99 when I called in, which included two pairs of glasses if I needed them! I made an appointment. Well I had to reschedule a couple of times and I always confirmed the price of $59.99 including two pairs of glasses just to make sure the special was still going on. Before arriving to my appointment I called because I was running 5 minutes behind and they said no problem and I confirmed the price again of $59.99 with two pairs of glasses and told "yes"! Then after getting there, filling out forms and waiting for 80 minutes, I went into the exam room but before I even went through the exam because it's a big process with bright lights being shot into your eyes, I wanted to confirm the price and I was told by them it would be $59.99 and that included two pairs of glasses! However, it didn't include the doctors exam which would cost an additional $29.99! I should've been informed about this when I called in originally before making my appointment. Why bother to get your eyes checked if you're not getting an exam from a doctor, so of course I had to buy the doctors exam for $29.99! oh wait it gets better! So, I go through the exams and then sent out to the showroom to pick out my glasses! I had questions and asked the woman at the reception desk which classes are the $59.99 special?? She mumbled $79.99? I said "no" the ones that are $59.99! She pointed and said in the corner labeled in green! (I think) Anyways, I pick my two pairs of glasses and then told to go sit at the table and wait for somebody to come help me. Well it was the mumbling woman sitting behind the reception desk. She then proceeds to tell me the cost is $79.99, not $59.99 the price I was told from beginning and that day by staff! Plus, the additional $29.99 for the doctors exam that I wasn't told about until after showing up to my appointment! Oh and it was for only one pair of glasses! I told her I was told 5999 with 2 pair from the first day I called in to find out about the company and from her staff who did the exam that day and that price should be honored because that's what I was told. She was rude and refused to honor the price of 5999 which led to an argument and she insisted I pay the 7999 which I refused because that's not the price I was told! She then sat there with a dumb stare on her face and then said, fine! You don't have to pay anything at all but you don't get your glasses and you don't get the results from the doctor! The mumbling woman was rude and very unprofessional! And clearly did not care about the customers. This company basically did a bait and switch to lore me in not to mention waste 2&1/2 hours of my time only to be sent away with no glasses because the mumbling woman refused to honor the $59.99 price I was told by her current staff and the people on the phone every time I called in to reschedule my appointment. I called their corporate office to report the incident and they didn't care because they did nothing. For a company to lure a customer in with one price and then change it up to another says, they have no integrity or ethics and it's not the kind of people I want to do business with and neither should you! read more

The staff was very confused and not helpful. They didn't tell us until after the exam that we couldn't get lenses through our insurance. And they didn't tell us the cost of the exam beforehand - the forms we completed online said $59, and then they charged $109. Didn't even see a doctor in person - they were on a video chat. Very unprofessional and a rip off. I should be offered a full or partial refund. Was a waste of my time and money! read more

I went in with the possibility of getting glasses especially when you see the add "2 pairs for $79.00". I'm sure they offer it but you probably are getting glasses that are really readers. I was helped by John Williams and I have to say, his personality & presence is spot on. No hard sale, he listens more than he talks and is willing to do whatever he can to get your comfortable with decisions and options. Looked over my health care & gave me a lot of options. Sadly, I wanted 2 pairs with a particular frame I liked and he didn't have but checked other stores - all out . Spent a lot of time with me & finally decided on another design for second pair. Wrote up the order, took my portion of the payment and said it would be 14 days (not same day service which I knew wasn't going to happen) I received a text message on the 14th day the glasses were in, I showed up and was greeted immediately by John who brought out the glasses, did the necessary adjustments to the frames for proper fit too. I've had them on fur 2 days now (mine are bi-focal) and it takes a while to get used to but so far - so good. Like most people I'm sure if we didn't need glasses life would be great but alas, age has caught up to me. If anything changes, I feel comfortable to think i could go back in and would be treated with same service as I was day one! read more

Came in for the first time to get a missing screw on my reading glasses replaced. The man who greeted me when I walked in the store went right to work on the repair, and had it done quickly. Greatly appreciated, and the job came at a price that can't be beat! I'll be returning for a couple of pairs of emergency back-up glasses. It was near closing. I looked around and there was a small group of teen girls getting their new glasses hooked up, and they were having a good time with it. Couple of other people were being helped as well. Nobody was waiting for more than 1/2 a minute while I was there. The guy who helped me was the sales manager. I think his name was Brian. The easiest thing in the world for anyone to do is to drive by this place without stopping, but I'm glad I did. Everywhere I looked someone was doing a great job during this visit. read more

If you are needing to buy glasses or contacts I highly recommend you stop by Stanton. As a near sighted kind of guy I tend to get new glasses every couple of years and that was the case in 2020. My current glasses had the coating etched off in spots and that was highly annoying. I got an eye exam at Costco in the Spring of 2020 but didn't choose glasses there as I wasn't pleased with the options. After waiting around a few months browsing I checked the Stanton location in La Mesa. After two visits I settled on a pair and made the purchase. Alex was very helpful and informative. About three weeks after purchase I was able to pick up my new glasses with my current prescription. I am very satisfied with them. I plan to buy some sunglasses and bring them here to be sent off. This location is very clean, organized and the pricing is fair. Once again, I highly recommend you stop by for your eye care needs. read more

This review will be a 2 for 1. I purchased glasses here about a year ago and the staff was very helpful and versed. My glasses fit perfect and they are still going strong. Last week I came back for a second pair (backups) and had another great experience. This time Tony Elliot (Sales Manager) helped me, and the experience was phenomenal! Tony was very polite, respectful, and experienced in his field. I picked up my second set and the fit was excellent. I find that Stanton misrepresents its practice and costs. they advertise $79.00 with eye exam for 2 pair of glasses. I chose the $79.00 glasses, did not request an eye exams I had test results from my own doctor. When I went to pay for the glasses (2 pair at $79.00) the bill was $164.98. When I questioned the bill I was advised that $30.0 was for tinting one per - I had been told that earlier, and the increase in cost was because of my prescription.. My husband who had made glasses years ago told me that there is no more work or cost for different prescriptions). But I said okay. Going home I tried on the new glasses and found that I could see better in the distance WITH NO GLASSES THAN WITH THE NEW GLASSES. I returned to the store and it was advised that I get an eye exam at Stanton. When I took an eye exam with them they found that I did not need the strength my doctor had ordered and said just bring their new prescription to the desk, leave the glasses they originally made for me and they would make a new pair. THEN THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $69.00 for the eye exam. I explained that. their ads say that an eye exam ins no charge they argued that I had an eye exam with my doctor earlier. AGAIN I SAID YOUR AD READS EYE EXAM IS FREE..... so. in total 2 pair glasses and an eye exam advertised for $79.00 was now. costing $233.98. TELL ME IS THAT NOT MISREPRESENTATION.... I DID GET MY MONEY BACK. read more

The place is clean but I found them inefficient and uncoordinated. They did not explain their process since I was new, they did not explain the exam was virtual, they started the eye exam without asking me to take out my contacts, which I then asked THRM if I should remove them, they did not ask why I was there, etc... I had to remind them three times I was there for a contact exam only. Once they completed the exam, my prescription apparently changed but nobody told me until I asked. But they were quick to solicit a sale without telling me any results of an exam. I had to prompt them to explain the prescription results. Furthermore, nobody explained any results of eye health. Other than the virtual interaction with the doctor, I did not meet with or interact with any licensed person. But, it appeared there were two in the main lobby not interacting with anyone. I will not return. read more

This place is quality! I went for an annual eye exam, and brought in a pair of glasses I got last year that I wasn't 100% happy with. I had gotten 2 pair, both progressive tri-focals. With one my vision was perfect, with the other I couldn't find that sweet spot to be able to easily read my phone, and using the computer wasn't nearly as easy as the other pair. I thought I was going to need new lenses. Enter Jasmine, who put the glasses on a machine, marked them up, had me put them on, compared them to my other pair, and proceeded to make a simple adjustment to the nose pieces so the glasses would sit higher on my face. Voila! Perfection! I really appreciate her expertise, and especially her honesty and integrity to simply fix the problem rather than seize the opportunity to try to sell me a new pair of lenses. You just can't beat that! read more

I'd never come back. It took over an hour with an appointment just for my prescription. I wasn't even buying glasses or contacts and can't believe how long it took. The worst part is that this location was listed under my insurance's providers in network. They then tell me that my insurance is out of network which was confusing so I paid $75 for my exam. When I called my insurance company they said that's incorrect, my exam should have been fully covered. My insurance called and cleared it up but Stanton didn't offer a refund. They offered me store credit for $75. Of course, I don't want any products from them. Basically, I'm out $75 for an exam that shouldn't have cost me anything and they also billed my insurance. I feel that store credit isn't appropriate if they can bill my insurance. I would have appreciated a refund. Try going elsewhere. read more

So my daughter had a last minute eye emergency due to an infection in her eye that would not allow her to wear contacts. She had lost her old pair of glasses and did not have a spare and she is blind as a bat without them! Was able to locate her prescription but knew getting glasses would take a week or so to get. Found out after doing some research Stanton Optical has their in house lab which allows you to get them same day. We walked in initially and the front staff was great and then we were greeted by Mariela who was super knowledgeable and didn't rush us and was able to explain all our benefits and the best route to take for a new pair of glasses. She was so pleasant with my daughter who was stressed about her situation and very finicky when it comes to glasses. She gave her many options and found a pair she loved. Processed everything, went to grab some lunch and came back and her glasses were done! Overall I was always weary of coming into somewhere different than what we were used to. Glad we did. Such an amazing overall experience!! Big ups the staff especially Mariela for making it such a great experience! read more

Cheapest, junkiest frames-- both broke before could even be made up with RX lenses. I couldn't find frames to fit my face well at my normal, high quality optical shop and after looking around for a long time I bought a pair at the Grossmont Stanton (second pair free, same frame in a different color-- I thought having a back-up would be a nice). Took them to my quality place which I have used for the past 15 yrs and where I've had several RXs made up. Both pairs immediately broke (in different places) before they could even be made up! And lest you think maybe my "competitor" shop had an ulterior motive and handled the frames roughly, 1) I saw the breaks happen, and 2) my old shop actually gave me a free pair of sort of similar frames to replace the broken ones, so my shop came out financially the worse for the deal. The garbage frames had 'CE' on them as a brand if this is helpful to anyone. :-( :-( :-( read more

Misleading advertising. Their Groupon said it was for "one complete pair of glasses" and a $150 value. Bought it for my senior mom. They wouldn't let her use it and told her she had to buy another pair to be able to use that Groupon. I double checked the Groupon and that isn't listed anywhere. It's kind of insane for a company that normally offers $79 for an exam AND two pair of glasses to not let you get one pair of glasses for $30, as the Groupon claimed. Waste of time and money. Much better off at America's Best Eyeglasses, which is where my mom will be taking her business. read more

I was honestly a bit skeptical going in because of the reviews, however, I had a great experience! I will say, there were NO doctors or licensed optometrist in the office. My contact lens prescription exam was half done by Haykel, a sales manager and half done by a telehealth technician. I would say if you just need a quick and affordable option to get an updated prescription, this is a great option. However, if you need a doctor, this may not be the place for you. Haykel was able to have the technician adjust my prescription to better fit the lens I needed, and was able to get me a cheaper alternative for contacts B&L Ultra. My only downsides to the appointment would be that I looked up the difference between Acuvue Vita (what I typically buy) & B&L Ultra and while I was told they were the exact same, Ultra does not have UV protection which is fine for me but I think they should make sure to mention that to other customers when selling them. As well as because my prescription is very strong, I was told they may not have a trial pair for me and I asked if they could double check even if they have something close to it, I wanted to have a trial pair of contacts. Turns out, they had my exact prescription, astigmatism and all! Those were my only 2 notes but overall, Haykel was super patient and really kind! Eye appointments are always a little anxiety-ridden for me and he was so nice and efficient. read more

I used Staton in 2019. There were no issues, but I won't be back, nor will I ever recommend Staton again after my 2024 experience. This experience was one of the most frustrating as a customer, it was dysfunctional at every level of the company and bordered on the bizarre at times. My husband arrived at the location well before the scheduled appointment times. It was chaotic from moment we got there. The place was packed. There was one employee in particular who was yelling at his coworkers (he will come up later), other employees were slamming doors, and they were all clearly completely disorganized. There was also a girl there who looked too young to be an employee but clearly knew the employees that kept randomly opening doors and interrupting appointments. There are two parts to a single appointment at Staton. My husband and I weren't seen until 45 minutes after our scheduled time (While waiting I spoke with a woman who had been waiting over an hour). After the first part of I was sent to the lobby to wait for the second part and was told it would be about 10 minutes. After 30 minutes I was told by an employee that the second half of my appointment had been cancelled because they thought I had left. I never left the lobby; nothing was done to confirm whether I had left before cancelling my appointment. Second visit. The exam chair was so broken that it shouldn't have been used. It tilted so far forward that it was a real effort to stay in the chair. When I mentioned this to the Optometrist her response was that there was a lot of broken equipment there. Who says this to a customer? The website for order tracking never worked. When I called the 800 number to talk to customer service, the only way to talk to someone about an order, I was told that the website gets confused when there are multiple orders on an account and can't update. My husband and I each have our own account. When I told the woman that my husband only had two pairs of glasses, she repeated that they website gets confused. My husband's glasses got lost during the process for over a month. I called the 800 number multiple times since they website didn't work. More than once, I was told that a message would be sent to the location where the order was placed and that someone from the location would be calling. No one ever called. When we went to pick up my glasses we asked about my husband's glasses and the messages that were sent to the location. The employees said no message from customer service about my husband's glasses were ever received. One of my pairs of glasses were not right and were completely useless. My husband's glasses were still lost. I was done. I called customer service and said that my glasses were wrong, my husband's glasses were lost and that I wanted to know my options. I was put through to the manager of the location I visited. For my glasses the options were to start all over or get a refund. I wanted a refund. There was no way I was starting over. After I said this the manager kept trying to end the call even though she didn't tell me what to do next or what was the status of my husband's glasses. When I told her I needed more info she tried to end the call again. Finally, she told me that I could bring my glasses back to the location if I had the receipt. She also said she would put a tracking on my husband's order. I specifically asked her who I would need to talk to when returning the glasses. She said anyone there could assist with the return. When my husband went to return my glasses the employee who yelled during the first visit told my husband he would have to come back on a different day. My husband pushed back. Another employee stepped in and said he could process the return. The first employee looked at the second employee and told him he could do whatever he wanted and walked away. As the second employee was processing the return he noticed info for the order was input incorrectly which is why the prescription was wrong. He said that he would like to put the order in again. I agreed and I appreciated that unlike his coworker he was trying. The replacement took two weeks, but they were correct. My husband's glasses finally arrived after a 6-7 week wait. read more

This place is terrible. I went had a problem with my eyes, I called customer service to make a appointment. I asked about same day glasses even mentioning that I have a very high script usually -8.5 and they assured me that they would have glasses same day for me. I went ahead and made the appointment, went in next day only to be told they do NOT have lens that high and they would have to be shipped off to the lab. I went ahead with my appointment, noting on the intake for that I had issues with watery eyes, and other things. Did my pre-check exams with tech and get called back to the room. I do not have my contacts in so I cannot see, at this point a person starts talking to me (the screen) and I had no clue. I asked the texh who it was and she proceeded to tell me it was a televisit.. I had NO idea this was a televisit,, no one said anything. I went on with my exam, dr did noto one time mention anything or ask any questions about my ongoing issues with my eyes. Exam was done, i go out to get my script. They wrote it for an entirely different brand of contacts. I asked for them to be changed, tney said the dr is not available. I went ahead and ordered them. I just picked them up and they are terrible. I be returning them. I would not recommend this place to anyone. And my insurance didnt work here hence why i was only ok with doing the $150 promotion. Now im stuck with contacts i have to change every week thats i dont want. 10/10 wouldn't recommend. Stanton Optical was quick, efficient and extremely affordable! My dog chewed up my other glasses and I saw that if you purchase glasses you get a free exam so I figured to try them out! My original optometrist has really cute frames, but very costly. Shopping around, I found Stanton to be amazingly comparable and affordable. They have frames that range from $20- I think $200. Needless to say, they have plenty of frames within that price range. The frames I got were $89 and $109- not including lenses, but they offer buy one get one free! The optometrist that helped me was very friendly and very funny. Great guy. Each time I went in there, the technicians that helped me out were extremely friendly and helpful! I want to give a shout out to Sam, Jay and Matt!! They were AWESOME and treated me so well! Sam and Matt were especially patient with me as I tried on many pairs- they have such a great selection. I really like their glasses selection, although it may be hard because they have so many cute ones!! Also, you can have same day pick up on glasses which I think is really great. I hope this helps, I would definitely recommend Stanton to everyone and look forward to continue going back for all my eye needs :) read more
