Last week Tuesday was my first visit to La Mesa Vision Care and it was extremely successful. My appointment was with Dr. Hunter Morgan. I was greatly warmly at the front desk by a young woman who took my information and let me know who would be out to see me first. I waited for about ten minutes and was asked to follow a nurse to a small room to do several eye tests. She returned me to the waiting room which was attached to their eyeglass area with lots of frame options. Dr. Morgan came out and got me and escorted me to an exam room. He went through the normal battery of tests. He asked lots of questions and was straightforward with information which I appreciated. I got my new prescription and took a look around at all of the frames. All of the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. I would definitely recommend to facility and Dr. Morgan. I had such a great experience at this office from start to finish. The staff was welcoming, the space was clean and calm, and everything felt very well organized. Cameron helped me with the initial exams, and he was absolutely wonderful--friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole process feel easy and comfortable. He took the time to explain things clearly and had such a positive, reassuring energy. Jeffrey from sales also went above and beyond helping me find the right options. La Mesa Vision Care...I think I started with them in the early 2010's...? It's been some time. I love their lab the most! Have two pair of Maui Jim's sunglasses that I absolutely adore! As a San Diegan sunglasses are an extension of our bodies. I want to see just as well as I do in my twenties as I will when I retire. La Mesa Vision Care has SO many options and brands to choose from! People often ask me who I go to for my glasses? And when I tell them anything other than Costco/Walmart/Stanton Optical/Lens Crafters, online...they are shocked! As La Mesa Vision Care plays nice within the industry- so if I took my prescription to any of those places I have never had any pushback to do so. And that is why I go to La Mesa Vision Care. I have taken friends and my own mother to those other optometry businesses and my takeaway remains: I never have to deal with this (disconnect) at La Mesa Vision Care. I like supporting local business owners and honoring true craftsmanship. It is totally worth the due diligence to work within network/insurance and reap the benefits and rewards of doing so. La Mesa Vision Care is a start to finish experience. Very helpful, professional staff. Everyone is cheerful and pleasant to work with. I have made appointments and just dropped in and I have always been helped in a timely manner. They have a great selection of eye glasses and sunglasses that can be customized to your prescription and they have been super helpful about adjusting the glasses I bought to make them comfortable so they fit my head and face. They are also mindful of expense and will let you know which glasses are the best value based on your insurance, which is a real bonus because figuring that out on your own is a puzzle. Only downside is their small parking lot. read more

I was in for a visit today and am extremely dissatisfied with the customer service. I was in for an annual check up, I was made to pay cash when my insurance is taken by LMVC. I was allowed to make the appointment without anyone noting to me that what they thought was my insurance was not covered. But it is. Then I was given an eye exam by Dr. Hixon, who then refused to give me my prescription but did the exam and billed me for it; which again, I paid in cash but should have been charged to my insurance. I have always come to LMVC because I liked Dr. Hixon, even though, your office always wants me to buy contacts and glasses through your office. I understand an eye appointment is likely getting reimbursed every year less and less, I work in healthcare and the same is happening to me. That is not an excuse to give me a hard time not going through LMVC to get contacts or glasses, I go where it is more affordable on my budget. But I come back every year because I like Dr. Hixon. I will not be coming in to the office anymore. I paid for services I did not get, I paid in cash when I shouldn't of. read more

This office was great until Tom Hixon retired and sold the business sometime after my last visit in late 2021. I never had a problem with billing until this last visit. I was overbilled but paid the bill. After I discovered the overbilling, I requested a refund of the difference. I'm still waiting. I'm not going back there. I recommend you double-check your payment obligation with your insurance company upfront. Don't just trust the office manager to tell you your co-pay. read more

I recently had cataract surgery with doctor katsman. The whole process was so comfortable the staff at the La Mesa eye center we're very friendly and made me feel Like family. Doctor katsman I am told is one of the best in San Diego and he certainly showed it. The surgeries were performed in Delmar at the surgery center and the staff there very professional, The surgery center staff took away all my fears of having eye surgery. The surgery took less than 2 hours and I was home and now I can see clearly. Thank you doctor katsman for changing my life giving me back my confidence. I don't know why anyone would go anywhere else. I don't think I've ever had vision this good ever in my life. read more

Absolutely worst experience ever. NOT LGBTQIA FRIENDLY AT ALL! The whole experience did not seem legit. Outdated equipment that tried to make it seem as if my kid had 20/20 vision when in fact, we KNOW he needs glasses from a previous doctor. The vision chart was barely 6 feet from the chair And I've never seen that before in my life. We then got put into a room with a woman who was very clearly miserable with her job. She deadnamed my child and then after being corrected proceeded to argue with me 3x after I clarified "My child's name is X, please do not use any other name." At that point I was forced to leave with my kid because of the blatant disrespect and transphobia. This was not a mistake, this was not policy (no other person had gotten it wrong), this was a transphobic person who got enjoyment from making a child CLEARLY uncomfortable and upset. We will never be back and I do not recommend this place to anyone who is in the LGBTQIA community. You will not be supported. and to the woman at the front desk who had the AUDACITY to try and stick up for that woman, shame on you as well. read more

Since vision care is walking distance and had good reviews, I decided to go there. I have nothing but great things to say about the DR. He was great. When I received the bill which was close to $900.00 I thought, it will be worth it to see again. They gave me some sample contacts to try a few days and that they will call me in a couple days to come back in A few days went and passed now a month rolls past and I had not heard from anybody. I don't know the process on contacts. I called and asked if my contacts came in (I don't know the process) I was told that they have not been ordered until they find the right brand that I'm comfortable with. So, now what? That is when she asked me how the contacts felt. I don't remember it was over a month a go. So I was asked to come in again and get another few days of samples. Again, no follow up call, so I called and told them I was out and that I did not like them because one eye stayed blurry. So I tried another brand. the contacts kept getting caught on my lower lid. I also noticed that the sample contacts all had different diameters. How am I to know what brand I like if I'm not getting the correct lenses to try. Again, I called them and stated this concern and that I was still having the blur issues and the getting caught on the lid issues. She said oh good?.....uh... Not really......Well after several months I just settled because I needed to see. About 2 weeks later I called and asked about the contacts (because once again...no call), office said, "oh yes you can come in and pick them up. Drove by on my way home and was given a 90 day supply. After using them a week the blurring started again and the contacts still getting caught on my eye lid. Called and told office and made an appointment. On the day of my appointment I left work early and was on my way when I received a call from vision center stating that they had to cancel and that she should have never scheduled it at that time (for whatever reasons) and she will call me back with some dates. You guessed it Never received a call ...unable to see Cleary from contacts I had to revert to putting on 2, sometimes 3 pairs of glasses just to read up close. Because I had no glasses nor contacts yet. What the heck did I pay 900.00 for ...ooops rephrase (forgot the 120.00 bill I received in the mail when I was double charged for the contacts ) Because I know it Surely cannot be for the kid size plastic frame glasses with no bifocal (which was prescribed) no scratch or glare protection....NOTHING ..Just plain glasses I could have bought ANYWHERE for $59. I was told that they were not for close up distance but to see at a further distance only. Did I mention I'm Farsightedness (Hyperopia)!!! I see better out of my 99 cent glasses from the dollar store. I did not want a repeat after my 90 day contacts are up so I called the office to ask for a copy of my contact prescription. Nobody was able to give them to me because they were lost and next they couldn't find them. I decided to go to their office and get my prescription in person. It took a few hours but I succeeded and walked out with prescription in hand not to look back. You too can have all of this for the low price of $1000.00 with the guarantee of no follow up calls and lets not forget the non communication, but it doesn't stop there....no, especially if seeing is not a priority then you are guaranteed to squint to the point of new wrinkles. read more
