Well, despite all the negative reviews and mostly one star ratings I decided to give these guys a try. So they have a call center. I specifically asked if they accepted Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and I was told that they did so I scheduled an appointment, drove over there, went in and they told me that they don't accept Blue Cross Blue Shield. They are out of network. This was an enormous waste of my time and completely avoidable, but they are absolutely incompetent. No wonder they have terrible reviews so for the most part, I would say these guys are a dismal failure. Take your business elsewhere. read more

I have worn glasses since I was 8. I am now 78. My experience at this shop was the worst ever. I had damaged my glasses and thought go in for an exam and pick out some new specs for a reasonable price. Made an appointment to do so. This was not to be. When I first came in I was approached by a salesperson with the worst eye spasms I had ever seen. Okay but a bit odd. Then a pretty close to surly woman came up and said the exam is actually $108 but cost can be adjusted with purchase. I have had many exams. None were like this. They also advised it would be some kind of virtual exam (what the heck) not an optician. I decided to leave and go elsewhere to a professional normal place with human opticians. Horrible experience. Would never recommend this place to anyone. For starters, the eye exam is taken by a virtual doctor which just feels odd overall. Second, I have a medi-cal insurance was stated multiple times over the the phone when booking and when getting there the woman told me it was only $59. I explained to the woman in the room I just wanted the prescription and that I wasn't going to purchase the glasses there before even starting any test. I then was looking around as advised by the lady who did my eye tests, a man came up to me asking if I wanted a tray for the glasses I told him that I didn't want to buy glasses there just needed my prescription. Not once did the two mention the price would actually be $79 because I wasn't going to buy glasses. The lady who took my pay was rude and all she kept saying was "I'm sorry but that's the price because medi-cal isn't accepted and we give a discount." She never not once mentioned when checking me in if I didn't buy glasses it would be $79! Would never come back, didn't feel like things were clear but instead just a money grab and scam! read more

I cannot believe this business has the rating it does. I had been wanting to have an eye exam done for a while, and since we were in the area saw the sign that said $79 for eye exam and two pairs of glasses. Called in, spoke to a guy who didn't speak English well, but thought it was just the person making the appointment. We came in, the employees were chit chatting as we were standing there looking for someone to talk to. Then the lady came over, I said I had an appointment, filled out some information, and then was called in to the room to get the eye exam. The technician wasn't friendly, and it wasn't explained to me that this was a virtual "doctor" visit. She just told me to sit comfortably and that the doctor was going to walk me through the exam and she left. I was confused as to to who was talking to me but then realized there was someone on a tv somewhere (I had my eyes through the machine so I couldn't see around the room), turns out it was the same voice from the person who made my appointment that same day. After that was told the two glasses that were included were select ones, which were pretty bad options. I declined getting any, I just wanted to pay for my exam and never go back there again. Was told over the phone that a general vision test would include certain things like testing for glaucoma etc. When I took the test I was told those things would be 39 dollars more, not included in the basic test. Walked into the exam room and didn't see the employee wipe down any machines that my face was touching. While using the machines in the beginning of the test I wasn't told where to look, what to do with my eyes, and what it is the machine is testing for. I had to ask a couple times what to do, since I was told to just put my face in the machine. After the test me and the employee left the room together. I waited in the waiting area and saw the employee take someone else into the room, same thing didn't see them wipe anything down after me. Got up to ask for a tissue and sanitizer to clean my face. Told one of the employees i didn't see them wipe anything down. That same employee walked into the room where the exam was happening and in front of the customers told the worker that they needed to be wiping down machines. They said they did and the employee approached me again and said "they said they wiped it down before you". I just said ok and waited for my prescription to be done. This was my third visit and the experience has been progressively worse each time. The staff tried to help me but I am not sure if there was a language barrier or some other issue but I ended up leaving the store after 20 minutes of waiting for someone to figure out how to use the computer so they could process my order! Maybe the guy was brand new but it was really weird, and didn't build my confidence that they would get my prescription right and create glasses accurately. Icing on the cake is what a mess that store is. There are some big stains on the carpet, signs on the wall that are covered with paper so they read different things on top of something else and just a general vibe of disorder. Not a comfortable shopping experience when one is browsing for glasses. I'm not sure if they're in the midst of getting ready to remodel or if the store is getting ready to close, but it had a definite mess to it. read more

They have a VERY small selection of frames to choose from at the sale price and all the frames are very small. They lure you in with the sale price then upsell you because of "limited inventory". This review is for Grossmont location, and everyone I worked with was very nice and I ordered three pairs of glasses from them. However, when I went back to buy Rx sunglasses, August 2024, I had a different vibe. I was not getting great service, hey I understand people have a bad day, but I was told they'd be ready in 2-3 weeks, but they often arrive sooner. This was fine, since I was still five weeks from my vacation. See where this is going? Yep, a week before our vacation, I called them to inquire on the status and told them I for sure needed them before we left town. Four days before we left, I got a call to say they were not able to find the frames I ordered, so I'd have to come in and start all over with the selection process. I first went to Stanton Optical on Grossmont Center Drive about five years ago, and have returned for additional prescriptions and support. There is a good , informal atmosphere that is very customer service-oriented. In addition to exams and new glasses, I have been helped twice to replace frames for existing lenses (when the frames had been damaged). The staff has been attentive, good listeners, and better problem solvers. I want to mention specifically Jessica on staff, who helped me today to replace some frames which had been damaged. Although she was evidently training a new associate, she took time to find new frames for me, and demonstrated customer service to her trainee.... both in her good attitude and in how to quickly resolve an issue. read more

On or around September 1, 2024, I visited Stanton Optical at Grossmont Center Drive to take advantage of their buy-one-get-one-free glasses offer. I was assured by a Stanton Optical representative that my insurance would cover most of the costs, despite the location not being in-network. I proceeded with the purchase, undergoing two eye exams. Later, I discovered that one exam was billed, while the other was supposedly free. I selected my buy-one-get-one-free frames, but subsequent events significantly complicated the process. During my second exam, I was diagnosed with cataracts and referred to a cataract surgeon. This necessitated a new prescription after my October surgery. Stanton Optical's staff assured me that my new prescription, submitted in November (within the promised one-year timeframe), would be covered. However, contacting them proved extremely difficult. After numerous attempts, I visited the office in person, only to have my prescription initially dismissed as unfamiliar. The manager eventually acknowledged the policy but, unfortunately, misplaced my prescription. After this, I had to return to my ophthalmologist for a replacement prescription. This time, I presented it to a sales associate who claimed to have never heard of this coverage policy. This sales associate repeatedly sought assistance from the manager, who was visibly present in the store, before eventually agreeing to honor the coverage. However, a significant error occurred. My original prescription was for single-vision lenses, although I had explicitly requested progressive lenses. Stanton Optical incorrectly filled the single-vision prescription, resulting in a $296 charge. They then informed me that an additional $311 was required to obtain the progressive lenses I had originally requested--despite the fact that progressive lenses are covered under my insurance. read more

If I could give a -5!!!! Do not waste your time with this business. I called in to find out about this place because they were close by and I wanted to have my eyes checked! I was told there was a special for $59.99 when I called in, which included two pairs of glasses if I needed them! I made an appointment. Well I had to reschedule a couple of times and I always confirmed the price of $59.99 including two pairs of glasses just to make sure the special was still going on. Before arriving to my appointment I called because I was running 5 minutes behind and they said no problem and I confirmed the price again of $59.99 with two pairs of glasses and told "yes"! Then after getting there, filling out forms and waiting for 80 minutes, I went into the exam room but before I even went through the exam because it's a big process with bright lights being shot into your eyes, I wanted to confirm the price and I was told by them it would be $59.99 and that included two pairs of glasses! However, it didn't include the doctors exam which would cost an additional $29.99! I should've been informed about this when I called in originally before making my appointment. Why bother to get your eyes checked if you're not getting an exam from a doctor, so of course I had to buy the doctors exam for $29.99! oh wait it gets better! So, I go through the exams and then sent out to the showroom to pick out my glasses! I had questions and asked the woman at the reception desk which classes are the $59.99 special?? She mumbled $79.99? I said "no" the ones that are $59.99! She pointed and said in the corner labeled in green! (I think) Anyways, I pick my two pairs of glasses and then told to go sit at the table and wait for somebody to come help me. Well it was the mumbling woman sitting behind the reception desk. She then proceeds to tell me the cost is $79.99, not $59.99 the price I was told from beginning and that day by staff! Plus, the additional $29.99 for the doctors exam that I wasn't told about until after showing up to my appointment! Oh and it was for only one pair of glasses! I told her I was told 5999 with 2 pair from the first day I called in to find out about the company and from her staff who did the exam that day and that price should be honored because that's what I was told. She was rude and refused to honor the price of 5999 which led to an argument and she insisted I pay the 7999 which I refused because that's not the price I was told! She then sat there with a dumb stare on her face and then said, fine! You don't have to pay anything at all but you don't get your glasses and you don't get the results from the doctor! The mumbling woman was rude and very unprofessional! And clearly did not care about the customers. This company basically did a bait and switch to lore me in not to mention waste 2&1/2 hours of my time only to be sent away with no glasses because the mumbling woman refused to honor the $59.99 price I was told by her current staff and the people on the phone every time I called in to reschedule my appointment. I called their corporate office to report the incident and they didn't care because they did nothing. I find that Stanton misrepresents its practice and costs. they advertise $79.00 with eye exam for 2 pair of glasses. I chose the $79.00 glasses, did not request an eye exams I had test results from my own doctor. When I went to pay for the glasses (2 pair at $79.00) the bill was $164.98. When I questioned the bill I was advised that $30.0 was for tinting one per - I had been told that earlier, and the increase in cost was because of my prescription.. My husband who had made glasses years ago told me that there is no more work or cost for different prescriptions). But I said okay. Going home I tried on the new glasses and found that I could see better in the distance WITH NO GLASSES THAN WITH THE NEW GLASSES. I returned to the store and it was advised that I get an eye exam at Stanton. When I took an eye exam with them they found that I did not need the strength my doctor had ordered and said just bring their new prescription to the desk, leave the glasses they originally made for me and they would make a new pair. THEN THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $69.00 for the eye exam. I explained that. their ads say that an eye exam ins no charge they argued that I had an eye exam with my doctor earlier. AGAIN I SAID YOUR AD READS EYE EXAM IS FREE..... so. in total 2 pair glasses and an eye exam advertised for $79.00 was now. costing $233.98. TELL ME IS THAT NOT MISREPRESENTATION.... I went in with the possibility of getting glasses especially when you see the add "2 pairs for $79.00". I'm sure they offer it but you probably are getting glasses that are really readers. I was helped by John Williams and I have to say, his personality & presence is spot on. No hard sale, he listens more than he talks and is willing to do whatever he can to get your comfortable with decisions and options. Looked over my health care & gave me a lot of options. Sadly, I wanted 2 pairs with a particular frame I liked and he didn't have but checked other stores - all out . Spent a lot of time with me & finally decided on another design for second pair. Wrote up the order, took my portion of the payment and said it would be 14 days (not same day service which I knew wasn't going to happen) I received a text message on the 14th day the glasses were in, I showed up and was greeted immediately by John who brought out the glasses, did the necessary adjustments to the frames for proper fit too. I've had them on fur 2 days now (mine are bi-focal) and it takes a while to get used to but so far - so good. Like most people I'm sure if we didn't need glasses life would be great but alas, age has caught up to me. If anything changes, I feel comfortable to think i could go back in and would be treated with same service as I was day one! read more

Came in for the first time to get a missing screw on my reading glasses replaced. The man who greeted me when I walked in the store went right to work on the repair, and had it done quickly. Greatly appreciated, and the job came at a price that can't be beat! I'll be returning for a couple of pairs of emergency back-up glasses. It was near closing. I looked around and there was a small group of teen girls getting their new glasses hooked up, and they were having a good time with it. Couple of other people were being helped as well. Nobody was waiting for more than 1/2 a minute while I was there. The guy who helped me was the sales manager. I think his name was Brian. If you are needing to buy glasses or contacts I highly recommend you stop by Stanton. As a near sighted kind of guy I tend to get new glasses every couple of years and that was the case in 2020. My current glasses had the coating etched off in spots and that was highly annoying. I got an eye exam at Costco in the Spring of 2020 but didn't choose glasses there as I wasn't pleased with the options. After waiting around a few months browsing I checked the Stanton location in La Mesa. After two visits I settled on a pair and made the purchase. Alex was very helpful and informative. About three weeks after purchase I was able to pick up my new glasses with my current prescription. I am very satisfied with them. I plan to buy some sunglasses and bring them here to be sent off. This place is quality! I went for an annual eye exam, and brought in a pair of glasses I got last year that I wasn't 100% happy with. I had gotten 2 pair, both progressive tri-focals. With one my vision was perfect, with the other I couldn't find that sweet spot to be able to easily read my phone, and using the computer wasn't nearly as easy as the other pair. I thought I was going to need new lenses. Enter Jasmine, who put the glasses on a machine, marked them up, had me put them on, compared them to my other pair, and proceeded to make a simple adjustment to the nose pieces so the glasses would sit higher on my face. Voila! Perfection! I really appreciate her expertise, and especially her honesty and integrity to simply fix the problem rather than seize the opportunity to try to sell me a new pair of lenses. The place is clean but I found them inefficient and uncoordinated. They did not explain their process since I was new, they did not explain the exam was virtual, they started the eye exam without asking me to take out my contacts, which I then asked THRM if I should remove them, they did not ask why I was there, etc... I had to remind them three times I was there for a contact exam only. Once they completed the exam, my prescription apparently changed but nobody told me until I asked. But they were quick to solicit a sale without telling me any results of an exam. I had to prompt them to explain the prescription results. Furthermore, nobody explained any results of eye health. Other than the virtual interaction with the doctor, I did not meet with or interact with any licensed person. But, it appeared there were two in the main lobby not interacting with anyone. I was honestly a bit skeptical going in because of the reviews, however, I had a great experience! I will say, there were NO doctors or licensed optometrist in the office. My contact lens prescription exam was half done by Haykel, a sales manager and half done by a telehealth technician. I would say if you just need a quick and affordable option to get an updated prescription, this is a great option. However, if you need a doctor, this may not be the place for you. Haykel was able to have the technician adjust my prescription to better fit the lens I needed, and was able to get me a cheaper alternative for contacts B&L Ultra. My only downsides to the appointment would be that I looked up the difference between Acuvue Vita (what I typically buy) & B&L Ultra and while I was told they were the exact same, Ultra does not have UV protection which is fine for me but I think they should make sure to mention that to other customers when selling them. As well as because my prescription is very strong, I was told they may not have a trial pair for me and I asked if they could double check even if they have something close to it, I wanted to have a trial pair of contacts. Turns out, they had my exact prescription, astigmatism and all! Those were my only 2 notes but overall, Haykel was super patient and really kind! Eye appointments are always a little anxiety-ridden for me and he was so nice and efficient. read more
