The glasses are extremely cheap but not cheap in price. By the time you add everything up it will come out to over 500. If you get their 2 glasses special you can easily spend up to 1,000. There are better places where you can get glasses. I won't be back. Even Walmart has better frames. read more

I waited to write my review because I wanted to give this office a chance. I actually had a great experience the first time I went here to get a few pairs of glasses and a new prescription. I left satisfied, this past experience was terrible. I decided to get one pair of single vision lenses, and try the multifocal. Well the single vision lenses were perfect. The second pair wasn't for me, I tried. They gave me headaches. I came back within a few days to return them like they say you are able to. Had my receipt etc. they ended up taking the return and giving me a real hard time but did it. That wasn't even why I was upset. I said just make these single-vision. I figured it would take a week or so no big deal. She says wait here and comes back with the lenses switched out and says this is my prescription? She said yes. I put them on and they were not acceptable? Glare like crazy just not normal like my other pair. She said you will get used to them? I was irritated and mad that I paid for two pairs of glasses, returned one, then was sent home with who knows what? I'm not sure how they fixed my glasses so quickly but that was a waste of money. I never went back, I am writing this review because this was terrible. I just filled my new prescription at Americas Best this year and wow! The glasses are so much better than this place and higher quality by far, I literally just compared them. Plus I couldn't use the 2nd pair I paid for at Stanton, the entire last year. I have no idea what they did to that pair but it definitely wasn't my correct prescription. So no don't go here. I know I waited to write this review but it's ridiculous how they tried to pass of who knows what to me because I returned something. Even though it says you are able to do that. I wasn't even trying to fight with the customer service person there, because no matter what it wasn't going to be resolved. I just feel that was bad business and terrible customer service. I had a really great experience at Stanton Optical in La Mesa. Everyone there was so nice and attentive and really took the time to make sure I was getting the right eye exam for what I needed. They also made sure my glasses fit me right, which I really appreciated. Noor especially took his time with me when measuring the frames I picked out and made sure they fit my face the way they were supposed to. I really appreciate him taking the extra time and not just rushing through it. I also want to thank the whole staff -- John, Seevar, Hykeel, Hanin, Lola and Haely -- for making this such a good experience. Everyone was helpful and made me feel comfortable. I had gotten glasses from Walmart before and unfortunately they just didn't work for me. I need glasses for both nearsightedness and farsightedness, and they weren't able to get them right. I ended up spending money on glasses that I couldn't really use, so I was pretty disappointed. I'm really glad I found Stanton Optical. This time I have glasses that actually work for my vision and fit me properly, and I'm a very happy customer. The prices are affordable too, which is a big plus. I was prescribed lenses, all by the tech, who was very sweet. When I asked basic questions, they could not be answered, and when I asked to speak to the doc, she said I would have to make an appointment because there wasn't one onsite today. Stanton optical and Zenni Optical (an online eyeglass provider) work with the EXACT SAME eyeglass manufacturer. I went to Stanton for the first time today and noticed that immediately because I use Zenni optical all the time I literally was able to pull the same glasses up on Zenni's website that were in front of me. Both Zenni and Stanton have cheap, lightweight, plastic glasses. Except they are $25 on Zenni and $80-$119 a piece at Stanton. read more

Well, despite all the negative reviews and mostly one star ratings I decided to give these guys a try. So they have a call center. I specifically asked if they accepted Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and I was told that they did so I scheduled an appointment, drove over there, went in and they told me that they don't accept Blue Cross Blue Shield. They are out of network. This was an enormous waste of my time and completely avoidable, but they are absolutely incompetent. No wonder they have terrible reviews so for the most part, I would say these guys are a dismal failure. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Misleading information from the phone call to my in store visit. Very friendly but unorganized and very $$$ driven.

While the staff was very friendly, my first impression was that the Grossmont site was in need of refurbishment. When I sat down the row of seats moved and I noticed the walls were dirty especially around the doors handles. It did not look professional. Second I was told when I arrived there was not a Doctor on site, this was off putting as a tech was not expected. And I was told a Doctor would review my exam, but as soon as I finished the exam they had the determination? Where was the doctor? I was also told my eyes might be dry so for $39 extra they could expand the normal test? I went just to check my vision for reading glasses but when we sat down my charge was over $200??? I had the tech slow down and explain, he said the "doctor" recommended a particular lens, and coating ect. All UPSELL - when I asked why I got when this lens is lighter than the other.. Geez then instead of being asked the invoice showed warranties and other additions. I did get them down to the $79 as advertised. I will not be back. read more

I have worn glasses since I was 8. I am now 78. My experience at this shop was the worst ever. I had damaged my glasses and thought go in for an exam and pick out some new specs for a reasonable price. Made an appointment to do so. This was not to be. When I first came in I was approached by a salesperson with the worst eye spasms I had ever seen. Okay but a bit odd. Then a pretty close to surly woman came up and said the exam is actually $108 but cost can be adjusted with purchase. I have had many exams. None were like this. They also advised it would be some kind of virtual exam (what the heck) not an optician. I decided to leave and go elsewhere to a professional normal place with human opticians. I cannot believe this business has the rating it does. I had been wanting to have an eye exam done for a while, and since we were in the area saw the sign that said $79 for eye exam and two pairs of glasses. Called in, spoke to a guy who didn't speak English well, but thought it was just the person making the appointment. We came in, the employees were chit chatting as we were standing there looking for someone to talk to. Then the lady came over, I said I had an appointment, filled out some information, and then was called in to the room to get the eye exam. The technician wasn't friendly, and it wasn't explained to me that this was a virtual "doctor" visit. She just told me to sit comfortably and that the doctor was going to walk me through the exam and she left. I was confused as to to who was talking to me but then realized there was someone on a tv somewhere (I had my eyes through the machine so I couldn't see around the room), turns out it was the same voice from the person who made my appointment that same day. After that was told the two glasses that were included were select ones, which were pretty bad options. I declined getting any, I just wanted to pay for my exam and never go back there again. I wish I hadn't walked in and be charged $80 for this unprofessional experience that I had. read more

Was told over the phone that a general vision test would include certain things like testing for glaucoma etc. When I took the test I was told those things would be 39 dollars more, not included in the basic test. Walked into the exam room and didn't see the employee wipe down any machines that my face was touching. While using the machines in the beginning of the test I wasn't told where to look, what to do with my eyes, and what it is the machine is testing for. I had to ask a couple times what to do, since I was told to just put my face in the machine. After the test me and the employee left the room together. I waited in the waiting area and saw the employee take someone else into the room, same thing didn't see them wipe anything down after me. Got up to ask for a tissue and sanitizer to clean my face. Told one of the employees i didn't see them wipe anything down. That same employee walked into the room where the exam was happening and in front of the customers told the worker that they needed to be wiping down machines. They said they did and the employee approached me again and said "they said they wiped it down before you". I just said ok and waited for my prescription to be done. I've had glasses my whole life and this was probably one of the worst experiences read more

This was my third visit and the experience has been progressively worse each time. The staff tried to help me but I am not sure if there was a language barrier or some other issue but I ended up leaving the store after 20 minutes of waiting for someone to figure out how to use the computer so they could process my order! Maybe the guy was brand new but it was really weird, and didn't build my confidence that they would get my prescription right and create glasses accurately. Icing on the cake is what a mess that store is. There are some big stains on the carpet, signs on the wall that are covered with paper so they read different things on top of something else and just a general vibe of disorder. Not a comfortable shopping experience when one is browsing for glasses. I'm not sure if they're in the midst of getting ready to remodel or if the store is getting ready to close, but it had a definite mess to it. read more

Horrible experience. Would never recommend this place to anyone. For starters, the eye exam is taken by a virtual doctor which just feels odd overall. Second, I have a medi-cal insurance was stated multiple times over the the phone when booking and when getting there the woman told me it was only $59. I explained to the woman in the room I just wanted the prescription and that I wasn't going to purchase the glasses there before even starting any test. I then was looking around as advised by the lady who did my eye tests, a man came up to me asking if I wanted a tray for the glasses I told him that I didn't want to buy glasses there just needed my prescription. Not once did the two mention the price would actually be $79 because I wasn't going to buy glasses. The lady who took my pay was rude and all she kept saying was "I'm sorry but that's the price because medi-cal isn't accepted and we give a discount." She never not once mentioned when checking me in if I didn't buy glasses it would be $79! Would never come back, didn't feel like things were clear but instead just a money grab and scam! read more

This review is for Grossmont location, and everyone I worked with was very nice and I ordered three pairs of glasses from them. However, when I went back to buy Rx sunglasses, August 2024, I had a different vibe. I was not getting great service, hey I understand people have a bad day, but I was told they'd be ready in 2-3 weeks, but they often arrive sooner. This was fine, since I was still five weeks from my vacation. See where this is going? Yep, a week before our vacation, I called them to inquire on the status and told them I for sure needed them before we left town. Four days before we left, I got a call to say they were not able to find the frames I ordered, so I'd have to come in and start all over with the selection process. On or around September 1, 2024, I visited Stanton Optical at Grossmont Center Drive to take advantage of their buy-one-get-one-free glasses offer. I was assured by a Stanton Optical representative that my insurance would cover most of the costs, despite the location not being in-network. I proceeded with the purchase, undergoing two eye exams. Later, I discovered that one exam was billed, while the other was supposedly free. I selected my buy-one-get-one-free frames, but subsequent events significantly complicated the process. During my second exam, I was diagnosed with cataracts and referred to a cataract surgeon. This necessitated a new prescription after my October surgery. Stanton Optical's staff assured me that my new prescription, submitted in November (within the promised one-year timeframe), would be covered. However, contacting them proved extremely difficult. After numerous attempts, I visited the office in person, only to have my prescription initially dismissed as unfamiliar. The manager eventually acknowledged the policy but, unfortunately, misplaced my prescription. After this, I had to return to my ophthalmologist for a replacement prescription. This time, I presented it to a sales associate who claimed to have never heard of this coverage policy. This sales associate repeatedly sought assistance from the manager, who was visibly present in the store, before eventually agreeing to honor the coverage. However, a significant error occurred. My original prescription was for single-vision lenses, although I had explicitly requested progressive lenses. Stanton Optical incorrectly filled the single-vision prescription, resulting in a $296 charge. They then informed me that an additional $311 was required to obtain the progressive lenses I had originally requested--despite the fact that progressive lenses are covered under my insurance. read more

If I could give a -5!!!! Do not waste your time with this business. I called in to find out about this place because they were close by and I wanted to have my eyes checked! I was told there was a special for $59.99 when I called in, which included two pairs of glasses if I needed them! I made an appointment. Well I had to reschedule a couple of times and I always confirmed the price of $59.99 including two pairs of glasses just to make sure the special was still going on. Before arriving to my appointment I called because I was running 5 minutes behind and they said no problem and I confirmed the price again of $59.99 with two pairs of glasses and told "yes"! Then after getting there, filling out forms and waiting for 80 minutes, I went into the exam room but before I even went through the exam because it's a big process with bright lights being shot into your eyes, I wanted to confirm the price and I was told by them it would be $59.99 and that included two pairs of glasses! However, it didn't include the doctors exam which would cost an additional $29.99! I should've been informed about this when I called in originally before making my appointment. Why bother to get your eyes checked if you're not getting an exam from a doctor, so of course I had to buy the doctors exam for $29.99! oh wait it gets better! So, I go through the exams and then sent out to the showroom to pick out my glasses! I had questions and asked the woman at the reception desk which classes are the $59.99 special?? She mumbled $79.99? I said "no" the ones that are $59.99! She pointed and said in the corner labeled in green! (I think) Anyways, I pick my two pairs of glasses and then told to go sit at the table and wait for somebody to come help me. Well it was the mumbling woman sitting behind the reception desk. She then proceeds to tell me the cost is $79.99, not $59.99 the price I was told from beginning and that day by staff! Plus, the additional $29.99 for the doctors exam that I wasn't told about until after showing up to my appointment! Oh and it was for only one pair of glasses! I told her I was told 5999 with 2 pair from the first day I called in to find out about the company and from her staff who did the exam that day and that price should be honored because that's what I was told. She was rude and refused to honor the price of 5999 which led to an argument and she insisted I pay the 7999 which I refused because that's not the price I was told! She then sat there with a dumb stare on her face and then said, fine! You don't have to pay anything at all but you don't get your glasses and you don't get the results from the doctor! The mumbling woman was rude and very unprofessional! And clearly did not care about the customers. This company basically did a bait and switch to lore me in not to mention waste 2&1/2 hours of my time only to be sent away with no glasses because the mumbling woman refused to honor the $59.99 price I was told by her current staff and the people on the phone every time I called in to reschedule my appointment. I called their corporate office to report the incident and they didn't care because they did nothing. For a company to lure a customer in with one price and then change it up to another says, they have no integrity or ethics and it's not the kind of people I want to do business with and neither should you! read more

There was an initial hiccup with my insurance but it was cleared up when I pulled up my insurance website.
