This is my absolute favorite place to go for ribs, fried chicken, chicken and waffles, collard greens, candied yams, ALL THE SOUL FOOD FIXINS! The fried chicken is better then Lolo's to us, always crispy, always delicious. Today I stopped by to get a fish sandwich and even though the places was packed because of how amazing the food is what impressed me the most is a young kid at the register. In the stress of taking order after order and the kitchen crazy busy when communication was becoming difficult he took a moment to communicate with respect and a level headed mind. The chicken was bland & the waffle was awful, the sandwich was made as if it was a afterthought!!!!!!! The food was horrible... They charge a trip for Kool-Aid and why? I am extremely disappointed that after I cancelled my order with Uber eats they still made the food anyway.The uber eats carrier notified me that my order was never originally processed after waiting an hour and told me that it would be another 45 minutes. I told the Uber eats carrier that it was unprofessional on their end not hers. That's really too bad that a black business would run their establishment in this way. I'm never stepping foot in this restaurant or giving them a penny ever again! If my order was never processed then I should've gotten a discount for the inconvenience! What a joke! read more

Not a great meal today. I ordered the combo plate with ribs and bbq chicken which were terribly under cooked. So much pink in the meat. I believe chicken and pork turn white when fully cooked. The guy at the front was rude in taking my order, almost yelling at me and annoyed I was taking awhile to order because i wasn't sure what I wanted. My daughter and I visited this place over Mother's Day weekend. We live in Anthem so outside of restaurant chains, there isn't anything that comes remotely close to good southern soul food in that area. I was initially skeptical, mostly about wait times based on reviews I read prior. I have a 3 year old so I try to be strategic about where we go to eat. Perhaps because it was Mother's Day weekend, we got lucky, because it was empty when we got there and we didn't wait very long at all for our food so I was happy about that. I ordered the fried chicken with Mac and cheese and potato salad. The chicken was legit OFF THE HOOK! The Mac and cheese was pretty good too. I gave this review a 4 because the potato salad was good from a texture standpoint (I like creamy potato salad) but it tasted like it had too much mustard so we didn't finish it. I'm not one to get hung up on appearances, unless it downright looks nasty, but if you're expecting it to look like a 5 star super decked out restaurant, you'll be disappointed. The guy who took our order was nice, and checked on us to make sure we were good but wasn't over bearing (which I like). Okay so I originally came to this restaurant Bc I love soul food & I haven't enjoyed a great soul food plate since I left my hometown. The place is great inside, the employees were nice as well. I ordered the 10pc fried ckn as well as two large sides (the sweet yams, & the Mac & cheese). We waited for our food for quite a while. Once the food came out the server came over to us to let us know that someone ordered a 10pc but never came to pick it up. Let me know it wasn't sitting their for a long time so they gave me that chicken & a few fresh pieces! I was like okay cool they aren't gonna give me bad old food.. I get home excited to eat my food & i open the box & immediately I see which ckn was left out & what chicken was new. I bite into the ckn & it's the nastiest over fried ckn I've ever eaten. I don't know why they thought it was okay to re fry the chicken. The few fresh pieces were okay but the re fried ones were dark hard & it tasted like dirty oil! I literally couldn't finish the one piece I had. Then out of courtesy the server gave us 2 pieces of cornbread. I then go to eat it & it's a hair embedded in the cornbread. No not just sitting there it was cooked within the batter. I always try to support my black businesses but I'm sorry I wouldn't return to this one. All i have to say is just to check your food before you leave. The one star I gave is bc the yams & Mac & cheese wasn't that bad. read more

This place y'all So I just moved about a mile away from this place. Yesterday was my first time ordering food and the customer service sucks Kept repeating what I wanted over a loud speaker. When I got home my order was all wrong but I didn't complain. The chicken needed seasoning but the fish was great. So I tried them again today. I ordered what I wanted and when I got home again my order was all wrong again. I did call the place (not restaurant) and expressed my irritation politely. If you are out of something let people know and don't just give them what you want them to have. I order what I eat so please get people's order right. You are waisting people's time and money. I'm so mad at myself because "I love Mrs. Whites Golden Cafe " the food is the best soul food in Phoenix...but it's so far from me so I took a chance with Off the hook. Went here last for dinner. I really wanted fried chicken so my husband found this place. I was excited. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely young lady. She showed us to a table and took our drink order as we looked over the menu. I ordered 2 pieces of chicken that came with fries. My husband ordered 1/2 pound of rib tips with mac n cheese and collard greens. As we waited the young lady made sure our drinks stayed full. And we waited and waited finally we were told that the chicken takes 30 mins. For 2 pieces of chicken? Ok i feel like that should be on the menu or told when you order that it will be 30 min. As we waited from our table we could see the kitchen, there is only a curtain between. As we were talking we hear the conversation going on in there. There was some foul LANGUAGE coming from back there and they were arguing. Then a strainer fell on the floor and one of the guys just kicked it to the sink. My husband was ready to go. He asked if we could get out food to go and was told yes AFTER being told THE CHICKEN TAKES 30 MINS!! My husband told him its been over 30 mins. My husband made SURE the young lady who took our order knew she did a good job and tipped her. We got our food an left. Once we got home and started to eat we ended up going to bed hungry. The 30 min chicken was over cooked and extremely salty. I had my husband try it just in case it was me but he agreed. My husband is a big fella who loves food but he was so disgusted with the collard greens saying who messes up collard greens ugh. The mac n cheese looked boxed and tasted like a box. Over all this whole dining experience was horrible. Maybe it was a bad night i dont know but i do know We will not be eating here ever! I had seen an article in the New Times about where to get the best fried chicken in Phoenix and Stacy's was on the very short list. I had it and it was amazing. I do have to say its the best chicken I have had in Phoenix.He also uses real okra to make his fried okra.It was delicious as well as the greens.My guy had catfish which was equally delicious. Always pass this place on a daily basis and finally had a chance to go eat there, I was craving some good soul food fried chicken, but was I mistaken, 1. it was really salty and it would have been worst if it didn't have salt, because it would have tasted so bland! 2. I ordered it with rice and gravy umm..gravy tasted like it came from a generic gravy can it was so bland and so disappointed. I see someone else also had the same experience as I did on the chicken. The fried okra was good and the kool-aid was good glad they didn't mess that one up. Service was okay, the guy who took my order was like a robot though, you can tell he has no customer service, but he seems nice. This place is very unorganized and do not listen to orders well . I put in my order over the phone and we both repeated the order about 5 times to each other to make sure it was correct . When I get there my order was not correct at all . I ordered shrimp and there was not ANY shrimp in my order when I got there. Then they said it would be a whole 20 mins more to make the shrimp I ordered over the phone 40 mins before I even picked my food up . They also "forgot" to put cornbread in with my meal . I drove way out of my area to try some new soul food and I was very disappointed . I will not be back to this place . read more
