I went to Stacks a couple weeks ago, after hearing about the unbelievable pancakes they serve from numerous friends. I'm glad to say that I was thoroughly pleased with my experience. Once we got there, we put our names down on a list and waited. There was coffee and water while we waited for our names to be called, which wasn't very long for a Sunday brunch. My girlfriend and I wanted to try so many things on the menu but we settled on blueberry pancakes (huge, plenty of blueberries), French toast (3 slices, not soggy, plenty of powdered sugar), and some eggs. Between the two of us, it was a lot of food. We were definitely stuffed by the time we left, with plenty more to take home for leftovers. Stacks is one of the few breakfast places with a tolerable 35 min wait because they offer self-serve coffee and iced tea outside the restaurant to alleviate your hangry/short attention span. Come here for traditional American breakfast, stay for the adorably attentive service. Another plus is that if you overstuff yourself with 40 lbs of hot cakes, you can lighten your conscious by walking it off through the Campbell Farmers' Market on Sundays. (Warning: you want to eat BEFORE you go through the farmers' market, otherwise you'll hungrily buy everything you see and end up with bags of produce while waiting for breakfast!) read more

I've been hyping this place up to myself for the longest time thinking it would be a bomb-diggity place to grab breakfast. And with a name like stacks, I couldn't wait to try the pancakes. At first, I was like, a full stack is just 3 cakes? But they are HUGE cakes, so it is definitely a full stack. I got the banana macadamia nut pancakes, and it was pretty good. Not great, but good. The syrup was nothing special, but the pancakes themselves didn't quite have that warm "cozy breakfast" taste I was expecting. Hence the 3 stars. read more

My family has eaten at Stacks for years. It is our go-to place for breakfast and an occasional lunch whenever we have out-of-town guests. The food arrives hot, fresh and in generous portions and is always delivered by cheerful servers. I've always had a good experience at Stacks. Family favorites include Mickey Mouse pancakes, the feta cheese omelet and wheat berry pancakes. They have an excellent selection of choices for healthy and vegetarian dining and offer flexibility when ordering off menu. One of my favorite spots. read more

I like the fact that they have a gluten free menu, considering I am gluten free. However, I ordered their crab benedict to go the other day and once I got back to my office, I found that they completely forgot the hollandaise sauce all together. The eggs were bland along with the crab and I'm pretty sure had they not forgotten the sauce, it might have made the dish great. I guess I'll never know though. I'd still go here, but maybe to sit down and eat, that way I can remind them if they forgot anything. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars mainly because it is one of the most consistent breakfast experiences one can find anywhere in San Jose. I eat breakfast here approximately 3x/week and have taken down most of the menu. The obvious choice would be pancakes anyway they serve them, they're awesome. For some reason, I feel bad writing this review... a local restaurant that's been here for years in my home town... I ordered the California Eggs Benedict... it would of been better without the "hollandaise" water... even salt couldn't help it. Stacks is a well deserved substitute for those lazy sundays where I wake up way too late to fix up my famous breakfast goodies. At 130p.m. breakfast is still available here. Mickey Dee's has NOTHING on Stacks! They also offer complimentary coffee outside while you wait for your seat. I ordered: -Sausage, Eggs and Bagel plate ($7 bucks) -Short stack of Macadamia Coconut Pancakes ($7 or so) This was more than enough food for two people to leave you with a heavy deeply satisfying Kanak Attack (that sleepy feeling after gorging yourself). The type of Kanak attack where you stare at your friend silently with a toothpick in hand, passing inarticulate mumbles and grunts while the breakfast goodness spreads through the rest of the body. The thing I thought was different about this Stacks vs. the one in Menlo Park (very crowded) or Burlingame was that you could take a nice stroll through downtown Campbell and peer at all the neat little stores with their cute trinkets, etc. I mean, Palo Alto offered the same walk with many stores offering their wares but with less hustle and bustle for a lazy Sunday afternoon. I learned from the very helpful waitress that each Stacks restaurant are owned by different people. I enjoyed my breakfast at the Campbell location and my order is more than enough for two. They have good service, fast and friendly. But today when I called them to make a reservation for 15, they said "We cant help you for that many people." We went to the restaurant anyway, how will you turn down 15 customers. They were glad to help in person. Kinda rude in my opinion. read more

We were told that it would be a 20 minute wait and then ended up waiting over an hour. The service wasn't good and our waitress had a bad attitude; she didn't even ask what we wanted to drink. Been waiting to try this place for a while so we decided to go on Halloween with my brother and his new girlfriend. Should have tried this place earlier. The pancakes are delicious! I ordered the banana macadamia nut pancake. The pancake is huge. The portions are quite large over there. My husband ordered the Crab meat, chives & jack cheese, topped with hollandaise sauce omelet. The taste was a bit bland, but he seemed to enjoy it. I still prefer Los Gatos Cafe over Stacks, but I will definitely come back for the pancakes. read more

BF selected this place for breakfast on Sunday, and though there was an understandable 40-minute wait, we were pleasantly surprised by the nearby farmers market where we spent the time. Employees were good at handling the crowds, both inside and out. Servers with outdoor tables were expertly managing arms full of trays and the exterior door, and free coffee was provided outside- probably something we should have taken advantage of rather than waiting for the pot we paid for at the table, oops. Menu was full of tasty-sounding options and it was hard to make a choice. Eventually opted for the hot link and mushroom skillet with scrambled eggs, and the green chicken apple omelet. Preferred the skillet, as it was flavorful and the mushrooms were plentiful. Heads up though, they're not kidding about the "hot" in hotlink, it was spicier than expected! The omelet just seemed to be lacking something- the ingredients were quality and I guess they went together, but nothing made it pop. Would recommend adding a pesto sauce or something to it, though I think that's in another one of their dishes. The potatoes, though. BF raved about their potatoes. I'm german and I love a good potato- I prefer the ones I eat for breakfast to be seasoned and crispy, neither of which these were. The side dish seemed like an afterthought, and the potatoes were cooked to mushiness but not crispiness and were bland. Bagel we had was fine. BF liked his, I took mine home to eat for lunch later. Wish I'd asked to change it out for the jalapeno cornbread, as I'd considered before ordering, but it slipped my mind and I didn't want to hassle my waitress trying to flag her down again for the adjustment. As I said above, service was good and the menu had a lot of options that looked great. Would come back to try other dishes. I should've read the reviews before going here. We went here on Saturday morning for brunch. The service was mediocre at best. We had requested no mushrooms explicitly, but the dish was served with mushrooms. Unfortunately, our server dissapeared and came back 20 mins later with the check. We had finished eating by then. Food is above average, but the place doesn't seem to have a "Fresh" ambiance to it. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I've seen IHOPs that are fresher looking. Its conveniently located in downtown Campbell, and after eating here, I don't understand what the fuss is all about. Come here on Sunday (The same time as the farmers market) and the wait time is above 60 mins. The next time around, I'll go to Twist Cafe (Didn't know that was shut on Saturday), or BlendZ or Aqui If you like to splurge with OK food, go to Stacks. I have such fond memories of this place. It was a Sunday and the boy brought me here for a good brunch. They were of course packed, so we put our names in and had a nice time wandering the Farmers Market while we waited for our names. Upon being seated we decided to split a breakfast, because we both know how huge they can be! Eggs, bacon and pancakes and we both were stuffed with just one dish! Service was friendly, it didn't matter how busy they were, we did not feel unattended to one bit. Food was delicious and not overly greasy like American breakfasts can be. This review is based on one experience, and based on that experience I would definitely come back. We were a party of 2, and arrived mid-morning on a Saturday. There were people waiting outside so I thought this would be a crazy-long wait. I was told 15 minutes, so we opted to wait inside. Fifteen minutes turned to twenty, so I asked how much longer. It looked like we were passed up on the list, and she said that she had called us. I figured that once you pass someone up (maybe they were in the restroom), you would call them again. The hostess was soft-spoken, and I probably did miss her call my name. She utilized a microphone, but that could only be heard if you were waiting outside. Nevertheless, we were seated right away when I inquired about our wait. The waitress was attentive, and made recommendations. The other staff was also helpful in topping off our water as needed. The coffee was actually good considering you pay almost $3 for it, and I like that they leave a carafe so you can fill up yourself. The food was good. I particularly liked the wheat germ banana pancakes, which I opted for instead of toast! The omelette and corned beef hash was standard fare, but I would come back if I had time to kill on a weekend morning. read more

Stacks is good place for brunch if you have a couple of hours to spare. For a group of four people, the wait was about an hour long. Seeing as how we had a group of girls, we had no problem with the wait because we gossiped through the full hour. YUP, a typical girl outing! What I thought was really nice was that they have free coffee and iced tea set up outside for customers who are waiting for a table. If you're bored while waiting and you happen to be at Stacks on a Sunday, head over the Farmer's Market! It's a short walk, and there's a lot you can shop for. I really like how they prepare the potatoes here. They grate it into little squares instead of longer strips, which I liked though I wish it were a little crispier. The Belgian Waffle was pretty good, but I definitely would not advise anyone to use all the butter they give you. I also liked how they have the Sweet Potato Fries as an option for sides. The service is good. The parking sucks, especially on a Sunday. I think this probably is the best breakfast place in town. Their prices are unusual for breakfast but if you are a good foodie, you'll be well aware of what ingredients cost and such at that. They have the better Eggs Benedict in San Jose (even the ones at the Fairmont Hotel absolutely blow chunks)... I always get the Eggs Louis with Lox instead of Crab. And I had a waffle the other day, it was absolutely delicious. If you enjoy breakfast and don't usually like to make it yourself - this is the place to go. It can get busy on the weekends, but if you are looking to try it perhaps maybe pop in when it's milder on a weekday. They also have a decent lunch menu and I saw that they have a chef salad which is also one of my other absolute favorites that you cannot get anywhere. We went here a few times a few years back, but we rarely go out for breakfast (we prefer sleeping in and skipping right to lunch) anymore. Yesterday, we were up early and decided, what the hell, let's go to Stacks. We were there around 9:15am and had to wait maybe 15 minutes for a table.. No big deal. I appreciated that they kept a pitcher of water on the table throughout the meal. We saw our waiter four times throughout our meal: to take our drinks order, to take our meal order, to deliver our meal, and to bring our check. I realize they were busy, but it would have been nice to see him and have him checking on us at least a couple times. Luckily we didn't need refills or anything, but I still take away a star for that. For our meals, my boyfriend ordered the Chicken Apple Fritatta. I got the Apple Waffe with a side of Chicken Apple Sausage. My boyfriend's fritatta came with a side of potatoes and a buttered bagel. He complained that his fritatta was bland, but I'm not going to take a star away for that, because he ordered it without sour cream or green onions. They put those things in the meal for a reason, and it's his fault that it didn't taste that great without them. I liked the fritatta though. It was made with chicken apple sausage and gouda cheese. I definitely agree it would have been better with the sour cream and green onions. Shame on my boyfriend. :) My apple waffle was EXCELLENT. Hot cinnamon apple topping on a HUGE waffle, with four dallops of what I'm pretty sure was homemade whipped cream. Yumm. And the chicken apple sausage, in my opinion, tastes best on it's own. I came here for breakfast a couple of months ago and MMM I still remember that yummy goodness. This place is super busy, even on a weekday around 10am when people SHOULD be at work. hahaha I came here with my bf and my brother and we had a wonderful breakfast... My hot chocolate was yummy, just the right amount of sweetness... my brother had the Stacks sandwich which was HUMONGOUS. My boyfriend had the scramble? Which once again, was HUMONGOUS... and I had the eggs benedict which, guess what... was HUMONGOUS. And the best part was that it was big AND flavorful.... at a lot of places, if it gets big, it usually loses the taste... but that's not a problem at Stacks. This place would have definitely be 5 stars but I got a little irritated with the service.... we asked for water right away [like within a minute of sitting down] because my bro was really thirsty... and it took our server like 10 min to bring us water.... OH but wait.... the table next to us that got served 5 min AFTER us got water right away..... OH and its the same server! So hrmph.... felt a little jerked there. After dropping off the dog at Suzie's Pet Salon, my sister and I came to Stacks for breakfast. We were seated after a short wait and ordered the South of the Border plate ($12.60) to share between the two of us, after hearing that the portions were very generous. We also order a single order of blueberry pancake to share, although we didn't know it cost $4!!! Never again! Our table received our own coffee pot and water jug. The food arrived with an extra plate, but I didn't find the food THAT great. Scrambled eggs and chorizo sausage in a flour tortilla, same same. The potatoes looks like rice noodles. Not bad, but kind of bland. The pancake was okay. Not as fluffy as I expected, but served with a big ball of butter. The pancake tasted a lot better with the syrup. I wouldn't come back here. Came to Stacks for lunch today with a co-worker and we couldn't resist having breakfast for lunch. What a great choice! I had a Belgium Waffle with fresh strawberries and she had the French Toast with apple cinnamon compote. Both dishes were delicious. Definitely a winner. I've never had their sandwiches, because really, you're going to a restaurant called Stacks ... you should get breakfast. Their menu states that they take reservations for groups of six (6) or more, but I'm not sure if there are any restrictions on that. The service is always prompt and I like that they leave you with a full pitcher of ice water at your table, so you can have access to water whenever you want. read more

We've been regulars here for the last 10 years. This weekend I finally considered ourselves regulars because the host met us at the door with 3 menus walked towards the cafe tables (cause we dine with our pup) and then looked over his shoulder at us and said "yes this is for you". Buahahaha. Plan ahead. Stacks is usually packed, especially after 9am on Sundays. They finally added sides of french fries and bacon to the menu. They still have mushroom melters (sauteed mushrooms w/ cheese melted on top) but it's not on the menu. I love their scrambles, but their omelettes are simply too large for me. Beware, most of the tables for two are located next to the kitchen area so you get a lot of traffic going by and noise. Yes, this is probably ONE of the best breakfast places in the south bay. I came here with some college club members a while back. This restaurant on the weekends is basically overloaded, with people waiting outside and everywhere just to eat breakfast/brunch. Luckily my group had a reservations in advance, so we waited only 5 minutes before being seated. The interior is nice, maybe a bit dated and the tables are a little low and small (strange thing to find in an American place). The food choices are great, as the menu offers essentially all American breakfast items and you can always make special requests on your order. Eggs, Crepes, Omelets, Skillets, Frittatas, Pancakes, Belgian Waffles, Healthy/Light items, etc. Really, a lot to choose from. I ordered the Eggs Benedict here, one of my favorite breakfast meals that you really can't go wrong with. It comes with Two poached eggs, smoked ham on an English muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce; served with Stacks potatoes & fresh fruit. The Eggs Florentine was also a popular choice among my group, as it is just like the Eggs Benedict but with additional spinach on the English muffin. The prices are a bit higher than your run of the mill breakfast joints, but the quality and menu choices are also better. This whole downtown Campbell area is really quaint - even has its very own breakfast diner! I like how there's a self serve coffee stand outside the restaurant for the guests who are waiting for their table... and there ARE PLENTY of people waiting! I've been to three Stacks locations for breakfast and lunch. All are clean. All serve pretty tasty breakfasts. All are very, very trendy. All are incredibly overcrowded. All have about an hour wait for a table on a weekend. Stacks has great oatmeal, pancakes, eggs benedicts and super thick sausages. I've never really had a bad meal, but at the same time never had an amazingly delicious breakfast there either. They also have a decent turkey burger served during lunch hours. I really can't knock it for anything other than it's wild popularity and long wait. But because of these factors - I'd much rather hit up Los Gatos Cafe or Bill's Cafe. Also crowded, but better and more memorable food in my opinion. And I'm an Elite Yelpist, so my opinion matters! :) 3.75 stars. read more

Why are restaurant pancakes always around $3 a pop? Even when I'm craving pancakes/waffles, I can't stand getting them at a restaurant because I know it's just buttermilk and flour and eggs. :( SO I got the pesto omelette, which is mixed vegetables with pesto, chicken optional. Server came out with the omelette + chicken, but since I'm vegetarian I had to send it back. The waitress smartly came back promptly with the sides on my original plate, so I wouldn't have to wait with nothing to munch on...But then I spent all my stomach space on my bagel and potatoes and barely had room for the omelette after all! Nothing special about the omelette, it was just ok and flavors were nothing special. We split the bill when we paid up front, and the host glared at us and told us that next time we should tell our server to begin with. Okay. We always walk by this place on Sundays when we come to the farmers market. The place always seem so busy with groups of people waiting outside. Personally, I hate waiting for hours for food, so we never bothered to give it a try. Until this past Saturday, we decided to call for a possible reservation. The guy said the wait was only about 15 minutes and he would put our name down so the table would be ready by the time we park! Hurriedly, we jumped in our car and headed over. Our waitress was wonderful. She was so friendly and patient (we have an 11 month old who loves to scream in public like we never feed him). She knows that we were in a rush to head to swim class after brunch, got our order in super quick. Food came within minutes. We ordered a variety of things - pancakes, sausage, waffles, egg white omelet, Mexican omelet, eggs.. (there were 5 of us!) everything was delicious and portions were huge! The only reason why I took 1 star off was because the bathrooms were pretty gross. Luckily I didn't have to change diapers in there. Hopefully they'll do a better job at cleaning the bathrooms. read more

The Selection is superb and the pricing is not bad - a little on the high side compared to Deny's 3.99 breakfast they have now (and plus recession pricing is they new way to go) The Hash Browns are amazing and the Huevos Rancheros and Custom Omlets looked like the best bet - I can't wait to try more things on their long menu. read more

The food was decent. But EVERYTHING else was sub par. Waiting outside for 40 minutes with 40 other people in very cold whether was the beginning of this nightmare. When we finally got seated and got the food it was just average. The house potatoes were actually bad. We then sat there for another 25 minutes waiting for a box and a bill. We had to ask someone else for it because we never saw our waitress again. All in all for what we got for the slightly high cost, I'd rather go to ihop for breakfast. Stacks is always a great breakfast place -- they can't go wrong and you'll never be disappointed. Go for the wheat germ pancakes. They sound healthfully disgusting, but the wheat germ actually adds an interesting texture to a classic breakfast dish. The scrambles, omelets, and frittatas are all well-made and offered in very many interesting combinations -- from crab to sausage to all-meat to vegetarian. Avoid the lunch entrees if you're ever debating between breakfast or lunch foods when at brunch. The sandwiches and soups at Stacks are all mediocre and not perfected like their breakfast dishes. As for the wait, be sure that your entire party is there when they call your name -- otherwise, it's a no go for seating. read more

I am an absolute zealot about the Redwood City location but today was my first and last time eating at this Stacks location. I was really disappointed with the prices and food quality here as compared to Redwood City. since we were there on a Friday late morning, there was only a 5-10 minute wait. unfortunately, there was no free coffee on the table outside, only a container of sugar packets. This gave the feeling that they were just making a refill, but the table remained empty the whole time of our wait and was still empty when we left about 45 minutes later. meh. I ordered the apple gouda omelet and my friend ordered the farmer's breakfast. both were unimpressive. the egg on my omelet was over cooked but somehow the cheese wasn't melted. i picked up one of the shreds of cheese and it was firm, pretty dried out. gross. the sourdough toast that i ordered in place of the bagel (sorry, no chance of getting a pancake instead) was actually more like a huge slab of texas toast that usually accompanies a plate of spaghetti, not eggs. that was very unexpected. the one bite of pancake i had from my friend's plate was the best part of my meal. comparing this to the orgiastic meals i've enjoyed at Redwood City is unfair. my expectations were high and i left very disappointed. the prices we paid were really quite out of line with the quality of the meal. my friend, who was Stack-sing for the first time, has vowed to never return. sigh. go to Redwood City for the true Stacks experience. read more

On this Boxing day morning, I was taking a stroll along downtown Campbell, looking for a place to grab brunch. I walked by the usual suspects and saw a line outside Stacks. I was reminded of how my friend had raved about this restaurant and decided I would have my brunch here. I went in inquiring about the wait, and was happily informed that if I was willing to sit at the counter, I could be seated immediately! My friend loved the crab omelet and I was tempted to try that, but I noticed a crab melt sandwich. I did have some breakfast food before my stroll and I decided an early lunch was more appropriate. The sandwich arrived after a short wait. And it was a huge plate! The crab sandwich came on 2 butter toasted. In between the toast were real crab meat, generously stuffed high. There were avocado, tomatoes, lettuce and cheese under the crab meat. I took a quick bite and was rewarded with the sweetness from the crab. There was just a little mayo to bind the crab meat together. The avocado added creaminess, and the crisp lettuce added crunch. It was very good. Also on the plate were a generous helping of sweet potato fries, a cucumber and lettuce salad tossed lightly with oil and vinegar and a small ramekin of fresh cut fruits. The sandwich with tax cost a little more than $12. While it is slightly expensive for a diner sandwich, this one was delicious enough I will let it slide... read more

Reservations allowed for parties of 6 or more but I would suggest coming with 6 people max because most of the table do not accommodate large parties. The pancakes and waffles entree items do not come with sides. Went here with a buddy and my kids for breakfast today. Server was a Debbie downer and she set the tone for the whole meal. I ordered steak and eggs, over medium & medium rare with white toast. I got well done eggs, a tiny little over cooked steak, and a bagel. Thanks. Kids had micky mouse chocolate chip pancakes - looked about as dry as you could make a pancake. I don't eat in Campbell very often and am not familiar with other restaurants, but I find it hard believe reading these other reviews that this is the best Campbell has to offer for breakfast. If so, I would drive up the road a little. read more
