The first time I ate here was probably 6 years ago and the food was fantastic. Fresh and tasty. Great seasoning! Last week I came here and I must say, I was disappointed. I had a sausage and cheese omelet that was flat and tasteless. If they used three eggs, they were very small eggs. I like my omelets fluffy and this one was flat as a pancake, which maybe I should have ordered. The potatoes were just OK. They too could use some seasoning. It all tasted like the main chef quit and they didn't put any energy into finding a passionate cook to replace him. I won't be going back. :( read more

One of my favorite breakfast places in all of the South Bay. Located in downtown Campbell, this cute relatively large diner creates some of the best and biggest breakfast creations. Each time I've been there I've ordered one of their massive omelettes. These things are huge!!! The could probably fill an entire plate, but breakfast also includes country style potatoes and a whole bagel! All for under $10. No doubt you'll have left overs. The wait on the weekends is pretty long. Typically I've waited about 45 minute to an hour. But downtown Campbell is really cute with boutiques and during the right time of year Farmer's Market's. Saturday morning, table for two, thirty minute wait. At least there are a good number of chairs to sit and relax with the free coffee. I had the banana, macadamia nut, and coconut pancakes ($7.50). I am a big banana pancake fan, but there was just too much texture and crunch because of the nuts and coconut. That's no fault of Stacks of course. The pancake itself was good, and there were three big ones in the full stack. Still, I will probably opt for an omelette next time. UPDATE: Sept 2008 I've been back a few more times, and I still haven't had an omelette! I would recommend the waffles though, very good. They throw down lots of butter too, so ask for it on the side if you usually skip it. Me, I spread it all around, pour on the syrup, and go to town. YUM! Pass on the skillet. Really nice waitress, but food itself seemed to just be...eh. I gave it a three because it wouldn't kill me to eat brunch here again, but if there was a restaurant I hadn't tried before, I'd go there instead. Or I'd go to Country Gourmet... I just came back from Stacks and I am full and satisfied. Great customer service! I had steak and eggs and shared banana macadamia and coconut pancakes with my gf. I thought people were exaggerating when I read that the pancakes here were huge, but boy was I wrong. Stacks has the biggest pancakes I have ever had. I didn't have a measuring tape with me, but by looking at it I would say they were a good 8 - 9 inches! Some restaurants don't even have their dinner plates that big! The pancakes had actual banana slices and shredded coconut. I was just expecting it to have that taste without actually seeing the banana, macadamia and coconut in it. Pretty tasty. Out of everything I ate, I really liked their potato. It's not oily and it's not like the hash browns that you see at Denny's or cubed potato at other breakfast places. Stacks looks shredded, but more loose compared to hash browns. Not sure if they cut and shred them fresh, but it sure tasted like it. If you like hot sauce like I do, try the hot pepper sauce. They do not seat you until your party is complete though. Great american breakfast items! I had the crab frittata, which has a good helping of crab meat on a ceramic skillet. MMy kids enjoyed the mac-and-cheese. y wife had their steak breakfast. Ordered medium but came out quite well done... that was a downer. Very delicious brunch omelets. The steak and eggs were also fantastic. There was a long wait on Saturday morning but if the weather is nice... just sit back on a bench and enjoy their free coffee or tea outside. Its crowded inside but there are a wide variety of tables for different size groups. Waiting on the table is a jug of water, jam, milk, and almost all the condiments you'd need. It is pricey, but good service and great coffee and food make it worth it. The long line outside says it all. A must try. This is my first time at this location, so I was pretty excited to check it out. My friend and I were lucky that on a Sunday morning, there was no wait for us. That is certainly a plus. Who wants to wait to be seated when you are partially starving. The other location I have been to is in Burlingame. The menus are different. They offer different items at this place compared to the ones Burlingame Stacks had to offer. However, they both offer the popular items. I ordered the Popeye omelet. It was delicious! I am an omelet addict, so this certainly hit the spot. I devoured the omelet in about 10.4567 seconds. The portion seemed a little smaller than what I am used to, but it was perfect for breakfast. This place is a downtown Campbell tradition. I don't come here too often, since the wait can be long. I met a friend here for breakfast today, and even though it was Saturday morning in the summer, we only had to wait about eight minutes! I had a craving for corn beef hash, and I was not disappointed by my order. The corn beef was not mushy or greasy (as it often is at other places), but very tasty. I could actually see long strips of corned beef, so it was the real deal. Generous portion too! The fact that you get a free cup of coffee while waiting is also always a nice touch here! read more

Stacks. You can never have too much Stacks. If you have not been here for breakfast you need to drop by ASAP. Here is why: The food is awesome. The pancakes are fresh-they come to your table nice and warm so that the butter will simply melt. The pancakes are that perfect golden batter color that you can never get at home. The eggs are fantastic. They are always perfectly cooked. They also have a great variety of egg dishes (I personally like the lox scramble). However, you may order just eggs (or egg whites); the typical two-egg combo with a side of sausage or bacon; omelets; a breakfast burrito; eggs Benedict; skillets; frittatas; (aka whatever your craving you will get). Water. Stacks always provides you with a pitcher of water (even if you don't request it). Although this is a random service-it is a great benefit (because there is nothing worse than eating a ton food; getting very thirsty and having to wait for your server to fill up your water glasses that will become empty again very quickly). Atmosphere. Stacks is nice because it has that unassuming diner atmosphere without the gross diner-feel. It has the typical bar seating if you just want to eat and run; but, everything is very clean. I visit up north quite often and my girlfriend took me to this place for breakfast. It was about 8 am and the place was packed. The bar top seats the fastest if you don't mind sitting next to others. The servers are very sarcastic and lively in the morning which helps wake you up. The prices I thought were pricey UNTIL they brought out the food. The portion of food you receive is more then you would ever expect. Sitting at the bar top also had its perks, such as never waiting for a server to come by and refill your water and coffee. Pitchers are in front of you the whole time. Some may not like this but in the morning I do not liked to be bothered much. This was a plus for me. Great pricing, great portions, great location. So much hype, so little truth in it. Finally we sucked it up and waited over an hour for a table. The table, right next to where they run to pick up food, and dump the dirty dishes...SWEET, the only thing better than loud clatter while eating is looking at all the slop and dirt accumulated in the area. We requested another table, but 30 more minutes was not happening for us. As for the food, I had an omelet with bacon, avocado and cheese. The avocado was spoiled, it was black and mashed as opposed to sliced (I asked, the waitress obviously didn't know the food), it was bitter and horrible. I thought the bagel was a nice touch, except it was small and rubbery. My DH had something he was not impressed with. The worst handling of seating on crowded weekends I have experienced. Wait estimated by Stacks to be 35 mins. We waited over 50 mins. They claimed they called us 10 mins earlier, but they did not, as we were sitting right next to the guy calling out the parties. They do not have a buzzer system to notify you, like Outback for eg., and you can not call in to check where you are on list and how much more time you have to wait. You have to hang out there, which makes for large crowds milling around front and in restaurant. They offer complimentary coffee on street which was poor, weak, tasteless and basically out, when I went to get some. Once seated, the service was just okay. The food is okay but with so many great breakfast spots around, I would not return here ever. I found that the workers had a stuck up attitude. It was very much like, we have a popular restaurant, if you want to eat here, then you can just wait like everyone else and worse, if you don't want to wait, we do not care, because, "guess what customer?", there are other customers who will wait and put up with us here at Stacks. I hope that this Stacks business suffers and that they lose this franchise in Campbell and that a great breakfast restaurant with great customer service and nice people takes the place of Stacks. I have been going to Stacks in Campbell for 10 years and have never once been disappointed. My family from Sacramento want to go here every time they visit, it's that good. The only challenge is the wait, but with two kids we're up so early anyway that usually we can avoid the crowds. My favorite is the South of the Border. I'm difficult in that I order it without all the fillings (just egg and cheese inside the tortillas, plus all the sauces) and every time the server is accommodating and doesn't make me feel bad for making so many changes. In fact, the servers here deserve special mention because they are all so warm and friendly. They always take time to chat with you, and are especially sweet with my kids. My husband loves the bacon skillet and my mom loves the Garden Crepe, which she adds diced ham to. In 10 years of visits, I don't think either one has ordered anything else these dishes are that good! The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the service is top-notch. read more

I've always had good experience with stack's, but this visit leaves much to be desired. My omelette came a brown color. I can't stand over cooked eggs! The blueberries in the blueberry pancakes were more like purple syrup creating gooey pancakes... Disappointed with the food for sure! I'll probably give them another try at a later date and if that's no good and I'll never go back again. I found the waitstaff to be very tolerant of our indecisiveness, and the fact that we crammed 7 people into a booth. Haha. Craving protein I went with the teriyaki steak and eggs. Teriyaki was interesting for brunch. In fact I noticed several interesting items on their menu, including hard-shell breakfast tacos. Because I have wanted to come here for so long it's fair to assume that my expectations were high (always a line of folks outside stacks on the weekend). This is a pretty popular weekend brunch location despite its lack of variety of alcohol. The wait can get pretty long around lunch time, so plan accordingly. They won't seat you unless the majority of your members are present. Service was a bit slow, but that's understandable considering their number of customers. I ordered their Eggs Benedict, which came with deliciously buttery potatoes but slightly old and salty hams. Eggs Benedict itself was quite juicy. The people there are nice but the wait is so crazy and the food is your typical breakfast food. The line was about 30 minutes for our party of three on a Sunday at around 10:45, but luckily there's a farmers market right outside! Also a free coffee cart for while you're waiting! I had high expectations for this place because when I mentioned I was coming here to meet a friend, everyone who knew of it exclaimed at its deliciousness and immediately started throwing out suggestions (among of which were the coconut macadamia pancake, the bacon waffle and the banana wheat germ pancake).We got the huevos rancheros and the coconut macadamia pancakes to share and both were very good. HUEVOS RANCHEROS: Spicy and salty and so good--I'd definitely recommend if you love chorizo. Their hash browns were shredded a little thicker than normal but were very good once you added salt, like most places. BANANA COCONUT MACADAMIA PANCAKES: Also yummy, but we made the mistake of ordering a short stack when we should've just ordered one to share. They are huge as you can see from the pics, and although the flavor was yummy, they were very very sweet. The bananas, coconut shreds and macadamia nuts are all in the batter, so you don't even really need maple syrup. But I drown that shit anyway. The bananas are in slices not mashed, in case that makes a difference for any of your fellow banana pancake aficionados. My boyfriend only likes plain pancakes because he's weird, so he tapped out after a couple bites commenting that it was basically a pizookie.
