One of my top 5 BBQ experiences EVER! The restaurant is adorable (and even the ladies room has great art - and a changing table), and it was very clean. The staff was really nice, and the food could NOT have been better. I had the El Jefe (with Frito's); my husband had the Original P.I.G. (with extra pickles) - both on a jalepeno cheddar roll; and we shared a small mac & cheese. OMG. It was so good! The meat was succulent and not greasy. The sauces were flavorful and not cloying. I was especially impressed by the large pieces of peppers in my sandwich. The smoked gouda in the mac & cheese was incomparable. We were both full after eating about half our food but ate it all because it was so delicious. We only went for one BBQ meal on our trip to Texas, and this was it. Green bean casserole and the banana pudding are an absolute MUSTTTTT. This is my first time in Austin, Texas so I decided to have some menu items from here for to-go dinner that peaked my interest. The Texas trill with both sausage and brisket is delicious! THEY DO NOT SKIMP ON THE MEAT! I got the sauce on the side, but in retrospect I should've just had the sauce in the sandwich already. Slow low and banging...It has been a minute since I have dined at Slab BBQ. We love their BBQ ribs. However, i decided to try something new, so I had a Chicken Two Step sandwich. This time I had some ribs (1/2 slab) and some coleslaw (spicy and different, I liked it)- it was late in the evening so I didn't want to over do it - ha ha! And we also got one of their delicious sandwiches the chicken one I believe, with some beans (too sweet for us) and some potato salad (just right!) . The place was strangely empty when we got there around 8pm so service was suuuper fast! Then a couple other tables got there but they close at 9 so maybe that was probably why. Anyway our ribs were soft and flavorful- we got the sauce on the side, and were glad we did or it might have been too sweet for our taste. I stopped by SLAB yesterday afternoon with my family, and as soon as we walked in we were greeted by Jon, who was extremely friendly and hospitable. He offered great suggestions as we navigated the menu, and we ended up ordering one pound of St. Louis ribs, one pound of sausage, and half a pound of brisket, along with sides of mac and cheese and baked beans. The mac and cheese was nice and cheesy with a subtle smoky flavor, and the baked beans were a great complement to the meat. The ribs came with a strawberry habanero glaze on the side that was sweet with a nice fiery kick. We also ordered the BBQ nachos, which were surprisingly the highlight of the meal -- the flavor combination was incredible. Had a great time at this Elite Event. All around very well organized and lots of food offerings here, probably the most I have experienced since I can remember. I think my favorite of the offerings were the Nachos Platter with the pulled pork. I am typically not a fan of this dish in general as I find most pulled pork can be dry or overpowering, but SLAB did a great job execution-wise. The pulled pork was flavorful and moist. The queso was an awesome compliment to the dish, and the onions and jalapenos were perfect toppings. I could literally eat a whole plate of these. The flavors were great and this dish tasted as good as it looked. I highly recommend this dish. Next I liked the ribs, came in a close 2nd. They were fall off the bone, very tender, some slightly overcooked but still had good flavor. They do a ribs special during the week, I believe half off on Thursdays, and I will definitely be heading back to take advantage of that. Their new take on the Bahn Mi was respectable. I thought the flavor of the meat was really good. I'd recommend dialing it up a notch with good crunchy marinated carrot / cukes and some cilantro, but the meat had good flavor - just had a little too much fat in it but otherwise it's good. I was really impressed with SLAB's banana pudding! Loved the cookies they made - Notorious BIG is who I got, but the pudding tasted fresh and not too sweet. Chick NWA was really solid too, house made coleslaw was good. Hot bbq sauce was a good compliment. The food was superb and in abundance, but the company was great - especially to meet some other Yelpers as we all got along great and gave each other great suggestions and talked about coming back to SLAB - especially to take advantage of their ribs special.
