    poached pear salad with salmon

Very cute spot in downtown Hingham with a cozy vibe. The service was great! They have a good cocktail list and a nice menu. The poached pear salad with salmon was delicious and the bacon cheeseburger was really tasty with sauteed onions and came with truffle fries.

PERFECTION. From start to finish, my husband and I had the best anniversary dinner here. The place is small and has a lovely cozy intimate atmosphere, perfect for date night. We started with the tuna two ways and the roasted autumn squash bisque. The tuna was excellent; great portion size and flavor, served with a large crisp flatbread chip that we could break away pieces from. AND THAT BISQUE!! I couldn't stop talking about it for days! Probably one of the best flavors of any food I have tasted in a long, long time. For my entree, I ordered the grilled sirloin, medium-rare. It was a PERFECT classic steak! Cooked accurately to temp, not over or under seasoned; juicy, flavorful and just the right size (12oz). There's nothing that could have made this sirloin any better! For dessert, we shared the bread pudding and OMG!! I had no idea bread pudding could taste this good! I was stuffed from dinner and still couldn't stop eating it. It was magic on a plate. I can't remember the last time I was this impressed with a restaurant (and we go out to eat a LOT). Every bite of food I had here was exceptional. Highly recommended is an understatement. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't check this place out!

    Lobster ravioli

Stopped in to this hidden gem looking for a quick bite to eat and was taken aback by the great service and elegance of the place. The white cloth tables weren't expected from a place named the square cafe but the food and service delivered this 5 star review. We snacked on the ribs and muscles and split the lobster cake ravioli for dinner.

Great outdoor seating area and every menu item is absolutely delicious. Nice selection of beverages (especially if you like Scotch).

Ask the Community - Square Cafe

How is the noise level at the Square Cafe. In the restaurant part and also in the bar?

Bar and dining room share the same open space, which is fairly loud because there are no partitions and tight seating. Packed every night, too, so it's not as though you can go when it's quieter M-W. Outdoor seating is quieter by nature.

To start, the service was awesome, the waitresses were down to earth but made sure we had everything we needed and then some- including some extra chips to bring home with our unfinished buffalo chicken dip. The place was as the name suggests...snug. But the intimate environment was all the better with the live entertainment! Nothing really beats watching a local artist playing acoustic guitar and singing "You've Got a Friend in Me" over some good eats. I ordered the Cape Cod Rueban which is your typical Rueban toppings but a golden fried filet of haddock, on a toasted brioche bun. I was honestly blown away by this sandwich. All the ingredients were so fresh. Both of us were very satisfied with the quality of the food, the huge portions, and the reasonable bill compared to other establishments in the area. For all this plus 2 drinks, we were looking at $70. If we are ever back this way, we will definitely stop in again to try some new entrees!

The Snug is taking a stand for the neighborhood pub. A bar three rows deep where you can get a well-poured Guinness on tap and listen to live music. Servers are all polite. The lean into the neighborhood piece is for real -- I think I saw a high school date there one time. Food is pub fare. Steak tips and burgers are go-to's. Don't try to look for fancy, please don't. Deconstructed chicken pot pie would just be wrong.

What a delicious and affordable gem of an Italian place!…read more I've visited 3x in 3 months, and Brava Cucina always hits the mark. Logistics: garbage parking is free, convenient, and available- we missed it the first time! Streetside was easy too. Ambience: perfect for a gathering with friends or a professional meal or even a date night! Music is at a tasteful volume Value: Unbelievable. $36 for an a foccacia, app, and entree is such a steal in this economy; available every day! The entree portions were sizeable as well! Food: everything from the focaccia to the salads, pastas, pork milanese, desserts, and drinks were wonderful. Speedy and kind service. Would highly recommend coming in a crew to try as many menu items!

Josh was chatty and super friendly but soon got slammed (he doubled as waitstaff?) so you might not get his full attention as things get busy. All the Staff is lovely. Loved the meatballs, broccolini, melon & prosciutto, Verdi salad and grilled bread. My salmon entree was yummy. My date's pork Milanese was crispy and juicy. If you are looking for diabetic friendly sides to swap, not so many options. Everything was delicious. I tried the zero proof Buona Sera and it didn't agree with me so they swapped it out for a real espresso martini. The low ABV bicycle thief was delightful!

We also ordered their Caesar Salad which was good. I do remember this spot before it was Drifters and it was called Idle Hour which I loved so much. But I will say I am excited that a new pizza spot is now in its place. I think my next time that I try this will be physically at the restaurant. My only concern is that it is very loud. It is a great place to go watch sports for sure!

Grabbed drinks here with a friend on a Saturday night and wow was it busy!…read more There was live music when we first walked in so the ambiance was quite loud... like I could barely hear myself let alone hold a conversation. The place itself was small too so the music really overpowered everything. But once the live music wrapped up the vibes were good! Not too loud that I was screaming over it, but still lively. I got the Heart of Stone which was delicious! Not too sour or sweet, but was definitely a strong cocktail. I had 3/4 of it and I was already feeling it. My friend got an Old Fashioned and she was a big fan! It went down quite smoothly and tasted good too. For $14 a drink, it was a little pricy but honestly I've seen places in Boston charge more. I would recommend coming here to grab drinks but maybe not a spot to catch up because of how loud it was. Would love to try their food as it looked pretty good!
