Spoke over the phone with someone about trying to demo a mountain bike. A $5000 bike. Want to compare it to another similar priced bike from another brand. Which I demoed the day before from yeti. Was told that his store "sells more specialized than any in the Midwest. We don't need to let people demo bikes. You can ride it around the parking lot." Sorry. Major brands selling high priced good should all demo. Just think how much you could sell then? Moving on. I guess they don't want my business that much. read more

I hadn't tried Spokes before and I was really happy with the tune up of my bike, which included new brake pads and rotors because of horrible squeaking. Two weeks after getting my bike back, though, the squeaking was back too. Been trying to call them to ask about solutions for weeks, but trying to call the Wheaton or Naperville store is a dead end. Best of both worlds... Big Box inventory with specialty shop service and attention. Found a Stumpy FSR that was my size, had exactly what I wanted on it and was on super sale to top it all off. I had trouble getting the front through axle off, but their maintenance guru had me text a couple of pictures and told me how to do it over the phone. When my dropper post had some troubles there was no questions asked, and lets fix it attitude. It's a long drive for me, but worth it. Edit: 1-year later and after being chastised for using their social media page to ask questions about problems with my bike, and being told I needed to bring the bike in to find out if they stock a derailleur bolt that fell off, I'm not as impressed. It's the service offered a year later that really shows the commitment of a shop to its customers. read more

Honest Service People. I took my Trek bike in to Spokes for a standard tune-up. The guy at the service desk (didn't get his name) asked if I was having any specific problems. I said the gear chain seems to be popping off. He took the bike, put it up on a stand, checked it out and said it seemed to be working ok. If I wanted to leave it for the tune-up I could, but it would be 2 weeks and $105. I decided not to, because the brakes and tires were ok. He said ride it around the parking lot to be sure. I really appreciated his honesty. I bought that bike there and others for my kids. Nice place. Knowledgeable people. And now add Honest people, too. read more

Horrible, absolute worst customer service. I ordered a bike online through Giant searching for a particular bike within 100 miles. Found one at Spokes, when I called to ask when I could pick it up I was told "I don't see it here". Fine, it probably was still in stock on Giant's website before Spokes had an opportunity to show it as not in stock. I only ordered online so I could take advantage of 0% financing through the Giant website (Affirm). The service person still did not answer my questions about my purchase or answer my emails and It took two weeks for a refund. I also contacted both Giant and Affirm which needed confirmation from Spokes before I could get the refund. So, it took two weeks for Spokes to do this, which reveals shady business practices as well as a lack of concern for a new customer. I work in Naperville, I will not be recommending Spokes. Wish I could leave no stars or better yet, negative stars. read more

This was my first visit and will definitely be my last. Was looking at a bike and my husband started to take a picture of it. Next thing I know I hear someone yelling at from across the store not to do that and kept repeating himself in front of everyone in the store. It was almost like he was trying to humiliate us. Had he approached us in a civilized manner and said would you mind not doing that I would not be even writing this. But because we are not one of his V.I.P customers he felt he could publicly shame us. I would rather take and spend my money where they treat you with a little respect. read more

Terrible customer service. They didn't have the bike I wanted ,so I left my contact information. They said they'd call me within a week when they got shipment. Never got a call back, I went in 2 weeks later and the guy said they never got it in and that's why he didn't call me.... he said " that's not my fault" I asked him to show me other bikes in my price range, he walked away and never came back. This is THE worse bike shop to buy from. Guy named MOE not only trash talked other shops, but said what makes Spokes different is that "we service the SHIT out of you". MOE said the shop would call us back regarding two bikes we wanted to buy by MONDAY. This was a Saturday... it has been over two weeks and not a single call. Is this their idea of "servicing the SHIT out of me?" MOE also said that they don't use high school kids putting their bikes together like the other shops do... From the looks of their FELT bikes, there were grommets missing on cable routes, and rubber pieces missing... Sometimes saying what you DON"T do is because you DO do! Worst bike shop I've ever been to. Been here twice and both had bad experience. Takes forever for someone to even assist you. And when they do, they are not helpful. They don't even know how to sell their products or give you any useful info, no enthusiasm whatsoever. Almost like your bother to them. Once they figure out you're not making a purchase, they just walk away and stop helping. Save yourself the trouble and go to Sammy's bike shop in St. Charles. Sammy is so friendly and approachable. As soon as I walked into sammys shop he immediately took measurements for a tri bike and gave me a 30 minute lesson on the different brands and did not pressure me into making a purchase. I didn't even end up buying the bike and Sammy was still nice and helpful til the very end of the visit. There were 4-6 guys working at Spokes and only 2 guys at Sammy's yet Spokes can't even offer the amount of attention that Sammy's can provide. read more

Picked up a used 70's era Schwin Le Tour for like $150 with brand new tires. I've been riding it for months now and love it. Sometimes they put random used bikes outside and you can find gems like that. They staff is knowledgeable and friendly. read more

They're more into Road and Tri bikes, but have plenty of mountain, casual, and kids bikes to round out their offerings. Been buying bikes and parts here for eight years. This is a much improved shop. Spokes used to be a bike shop of last resort for me. Full retail prices, indifferent if not rude service, lots of high-end mumbo-jumbo to sell to rich triathletes or roadies. I really didn't like this place at all. What a difference a year makes. I was forced to go back (after swearing never again) because they are the only local shop that carried a specific saddle I wanted. What a pleasant surprise! Greeted at the door by a nice guy! The nice guy knew what he was talking about! He immediately pointed out the exact saddle I was looking for! We chatted about the super-upscale race bikes in the shops, played around with some brand new Dura-Ace 9070 stuff and generally acted like bike nerds for a bit. What a pleasant change! I still paid full retail, but that's to be expected when you're talking high end Specialized stuff. I've since been back on a couple of other occassions had a good experience each time. I've heard from several cyclist friends that this shop now has a new manager and from what I can tell, he/she has turned this place around. It's still a fairly high end shop that caters to serious cyclists, but it's more practical, friendly and reasonable than it has been. It's great to have another good LBS in town. read more

Certainly are nice enough... took my bike in because rear was skipping shifts and front wheel wobbly. They checked it, said it just needed their basic tune up. Came back a few days later, spent a bunch of money on accessories for a ride that day. Well, started off on the ride, notice the front wheel is still wobbling. Then the chain comes off. Then the chain comes off again, almost sending me over the bars. Get it right again, still skipping shifts, almost sending me over the bars, again... at that point, the ride is over. Got home, immediately sent an email off to the shop. Well, it's been 4 days with no response and now I'm looking for a new bike shop. read more

I went there a couple of weeks ago to find a new gravel bike at the store in Wheaton. The salesman was Rich, I think (gray hair and short beard). He spent about an hour showing me bikes, setting them up to ride, and answering questions. He was very patient and I found a great bike. Their prices are fair and they have a great selection. It is a very busy and large shop, which can seem intimidating, however I wouldn't go anywhere else because most other bike shops just don't have much of an inventory. read more

The people who work there really seem to know their business. As I was waiting I observed the way they treated their customers. There is no high pressure, they take their time to find out what works for you. I came in with a bike rack problem. The technician worked on it, went back inside and found some parts that were needed and fixed the rack to my trailer hitch. He didn't even want to charge me much, like $3, but I insisted on paying him for his time. When I'm ready to buy a new bike, I will be going here! This an an phenomenal bike shop differentiated by their service and attention to detail. I would say local but have met people that came here for their bike from as far as Indiana. Mo and his team do a great job. I bought my Specialized Robaix here and was really happy with the guidance on decisions for spend versus components, but also with the fitting session to set up the bike for my specific body. I live about 45 minutes away from Spokes in Wheaton and will still only come here whenever possible. I bought my road bike here and they took excellent care of me and my bike. Their customer service is phenomenal. I am in every year to get a tune up and I have never been disappointed with their services. The service is outstanding. I had an older kids bike from Spokes that needed some gear adjustment. I brought it in, they immediately put it up and made the adjustments while my son and I watched. In a few minutes, it was done and the nice man (I forgot to ask his name) saw that the bike was purchased from Spokes. He said it would be considered a complimentary tune-up and sent us on our way. What a bunch of effing amateurs and liars at Spokes. Their website said there were 3 items in stock. I placed my order on a Thursday, thinking since I live only two towns away I might have it for the weekend. I never received a confirmation, thus never got an order number. On Saturday I checked my credit card and they made the charge immediately. Monday I called them and was told it was shipping that day. Tuesday I called and was told it shipped on Monday. Late morning on Wednesday I get an email from Spokes saying the item has shipped. The tracking number for USPS shipping says it was shipped on Wednesday and the label has not yet been created. I never liked this bike shop much and only go there for small stuff because they're the only Specialized dealer within reasonable distance from me. The service and repair department is competent, but they seem to treat you like a number mostly just interested in your payment. No chit chat, advice, or special favors here. The price of new bikes and equipment is always retail list or higher. When special ordering even the smallest of items, full payment is required with no possibility of refund. As a matter of fact, forget changing your mind on anything as refund is not in the vocabulary. I never see any sales or deals. As a result, I make a trip to Chicago to buy my bikes or major equipment at one of the Kozy's stores, where both selection and pricing is much better. This place feels too much like a middle eastern deal-making bazaar than your friendly local bike shop that wants to know you and occasionally help you with some advice and tips. read more

Brought in a pretty beat up bike for a tune-up and general repairs. The back wheel inner-tube had popped. They replaced it with a tube that is too small and does not stay inflated. They replaced the break line with a line that is too big, and my left brake stopped working in the middle of me riding it. The chain is also too small. Way over-priced for them to do all that wrong. read more

It's hard to say if this was deliberate, but I will not buy anything from them. I have been shopping for a mountain bike over the course of this summer. I have watched many reviews on youtube and pretty much made up my mind. It was time to take a look at the bikes in person and give them a test drive. I called the Wheaton store and verified that the bike (Specialized Fuse Expert 6Fattie) was in stock, and that the price posted on line was accurate a $2100 was on sale for $1680. The sales person verified that the bike was in stock and the price was valid. A friend and I hopped in the car and drove 45 miles to test drive the bike. We got to the store located the bike and a female associate helped us, we asked her to verify the price since tbe tag on the bike showed the original $2100. She came back and said that yes it was on sale. We drove it around the parking lot and went back inside to think about if I really wanted to spend that much on a bike, I was looking for a lower priced model but this was too good of a deal to walk away from. While I was talking with my friend a male sales associate came up and discussed the bike with us. I pointed out that it was a great deal at the price of $1680, he looked at me and said NO not this one I must have entered the price wrong on the internet it is only 10% off the one that was $1680 was a different model, size and color. I asked if he was sure and he said that the bike I was looking at was not on sale for the posted price. We left the store and will not buy anything from them. This was illegal and I could have insisted that they give me the sale price, but I don't want to do business with a company that doesn't honor their advertised price. read more

Went here looking for a bike to casually ride on the paths and around town as well as a child seat or trailer. No one greeted me when I entered, it took a solid 10 minutes before someone asked if they could help me. When I finally got the attention of a sales rep I absolutely felt like a huge bother. Told the sales guy what I was looking for and he had zero interest in helping me. They had child carriers in stock but they were up high and he couldn't tell me what model they were or how much. Clearly my money wasn't green enough to make the effort. As I was trying to get information about bikes and narrow down what I wanted, I looked up and realized we were at the door. Dude literally walked me to the door during our brief conversation. I was ready to purchase that day and I would have been an easy sale. I highly recommend people take their money elsewhere. I ended up going to J&R in villa park and they got me what I needed. read more

These fellows are great! I bought a bike online, and was told by two other bike shops the bike was not the right size, and I was shown new bicycles for $700. The fellows at Spokes suggested an extension rod for the handle bars, installed it today, and the bicycle is now not only the right size, it's very comforable for me to ride. That costs me $40, $30 for the extension for the handle bars, and $10 labor, not the cost of a new bike. I will continue to do business at this bike shop! read more

2 years ago I bought an expensive carbon triathlon bike here (Specialized Transition). Spent between $3 and $4K on the bike. The bike seemed slightly uncomfortable, but I was told that was normal for a bike like this. This was a prior year model so supposedly Rauf (the owner) was giving me a good deal. There were 2 things that were wrong with the bike that the owner knew (and I didn't), but still sold me the bike: 1) About a year ago I discovered a pretty major scratch on the frame (just underneath the front chain ring) that was covered with a piece of bar tape! No-one would have bought this bike with a scratch, but they covered it up pretty well and it blended in with the bike color. 2) The bike did feel slightly uncomfortable and I dealt with the back pain for a couple of years now, writing it off as normal for a triathlon bike. Last month, I decided to do a professional fit on the bike to dial-in my position. The guy doing the fit told me right away "This bike is WAAAAY to small for your size, the bike shop should have never sold it to you!" I tried another bike frame (that is actually my size) and never thought that it could be THAT comfortable. Since then back pain never came back. IN SUMMARY: the owner sold me the bike knowing well that it was DAMAGED and it was CLEARLY NOT MY SIZE. And now I'm out $3K getting a new bike. So if you know and understand what you want and are willing to closely inspect what they sell to you for any kind of damage - come on in. Otherwise I would stay clear of this store. I'm definitely not going back. read more
