Great little take-out only place on 2nd Ave in Arcadia. I phone in my order, it's ready when I get there in 10-15 minutes and the quality is consistent. It's a regular stop for me at least once per month. I haven't tried too much of the menu because I like their Green Curry and Larb so much I almost always order those. I like it spicy and order the curries "extra spicy", which comes out about right. Ask them for Prik Nam Pla (chiles in fish sauce) and Red Chile Paste if you like to add more spice while you eat, as I do. The order of Larb is huge for the price. I usually get the Green Curry with either pork or seafood. The seafood version is a larger serving with fish, shrimp, squid and scallops - nice mix. If I were inclined to nit pick, I'd add a little more veg to the curry, and serve the larb with the lettuce cups on the side, but good stuff. read more

2024.02.26 We regularly order from here from my office. Food is well done and consistent, great portion size and price, Only con: Consistent with the driest of chicken. So generous in amount but whew. I'm not that particular and will eat dry chicken if I have to but I'm at the point where I pick all the chicken out bc I just don't want to eat it anymore. I come all the way to Chicago to eat this Thai food. It's the best Thai food I've had. It's awesome. I got spicy and it is spicy ! Like hurts you on the way out spicy but oddly not like all morning long... so I think the peppers are spicy but not that oily so minimal burnage. I came from work decided. WTH I will give spices a 3rd chance. I think they have a new owner and cook. Well they did not fail to disappoint. The last time I came I ordered pad Thai which was the second worse I have had. Orange clumpy noodles with orange pad Thai sauce a little bit of bean sprouts green onions. Not wanting to make the same mistake I ordered pad si ew. With beef. Broccoli beef. And the special fried rice. I attached a photo of the broccoli beef. It tasted like boiled beef and broccoli. What happened to the spices onion and oyster sauce? They asked how spicy I wanted the pad Si ew. I said 8. It was a 2. No jalapeño no onion no basil. Spinach beef noodles with a brown tasteless sauce sprinkled with red pepper. Lame. The fried rice beef chicken a couple of shrimp green onions. Egg? No. Peas carrots or sprouts? No. Horrible. I had asked if they had new owners or a cook. Who is your cook? The food went from great mediocre to horrible. I will soon see you like the teriyaki place down the street. Out of business. #####ALERT#### So I called. Asked to speak to the manager. Got a runaround however they said they would give me a refund. I went back. I showed them the food. How the fried rice was rice with chicken beef and onion. The cook came and said there is egg I said where she pointed to a blob of rice which I picked up and showed her it was rice. She then pointed to a tiny thing and said that was egg. I started laughing. I showed her the pad di ew which had no chili or basil She got angry. I showed how the beef with broccoli had no oyster sauce. She said it did. Look at the pictures of my food. This was a joke. The food sucks. Look at my old reviews. The food was great. I just wanted to update my review. I was hangry when I wrote my first review, but since then I have driven past all the time for work and they're always open during the hours they say they are and I see a good amount of customers. I personally haven't been back there, but I appreciate seeing them open during lunch hours, which is when everyone is hunting for food. read more

We've been regulars at Spices Thai Kitchen and usually love the food and the service from the older short lady who knows us and our order. But last night's visit was a huge letdown. We got there 40 minutes before closing, and this tall lady named Ellie (who I've never seen before) told us the kitchen was already closed.I was surprised since Google says they close at 8:30 PM, we've gone 40mins-1hr before closing and it's never been an issue. When I brought that up, she was pretty rude and didn't seem to care. It's a bummer that the usual staff wasn't there because this experience was not what we've come to expect from this place. GREAT food, totally authentic, and they work really hard. It is a takeout only place, which worked well for them through covid changes. They are now even busier than ever since Bento-ya closed down right around the corner. If you like your food spicy, this is definitely the place for that! My expectations were pretty high after reading all the great reviews on this restaurant, but unfortunately I must have come on an off day for the chef. I ordered 5 items for dinner tonight and I only enjoyed 2 of the dishes. Bangkok Noodle - 5/5. Rice noodle topped with ground chicken and a tasty gravy. Super delish! My fave dish of what I ordered. Spicy Mint Leaf Chicken - 4/5. Could use a bit more seasoning and more mint leaves as I couldn't really taste any of the mint. But otherwise a good entree. Yellow curry with chicken - 2/5. They didn't use enough coconut milk in it so it was watery and lacked the depth, flavor, and creaminess of the coconut milk that is supposed to be the main ingredient in yellow curry. Garlic fried rice - 3/5. The rice didn't taste like it had much garlic. It was ok. Pad Thai - 1/5. Pad Thai is one of my favorite Thai dishes. I order it every time I eat Thai food. I learned to make it at home from a Thai chef on YouTube because my family likes it so much. Turns out my family likes my amateur pad Thai better than the one from Spices. The one we got had overcooked noodles. They were SO soggy from being cooked in too much sauce. When we tried to serve the noodles, our plastic forks were bending because the noodles had clumped together so much, and it became so dense, that we could barely separate the noodles with 2 forks. It also had taken on the shape of the plastic take out container like Playdoh. The sauce was overly sweet as well. This restaurant is located on 1st Ave. It's takeout only so with the pandemic not too much changed. They do have markers for social distancing and reminders to wear a mask and a barrier set up at the door for payment. Pretty safe. There tends to be a line so I suggest calling the order ahead of time. Usually takes about 25 to 30min. I ordered satay chicken, bangkok noodles and crab fried rice. First the packaging. It was so well packed with foil that when I got home everything was still hot. They give very generous portions of very tasty food so that is a plus. I did have the bangkok noodles the next day as leftovers and the noodles didn't taste as good so I would recommend rice dishes if you want to save for multiple meals. This is my go-to to-go Thai restaurant. The food is delicious. You get a good portion for the price. They are taking precautions due to COVID-19 seriously by wearing masks and having the cash register at the door of the restaurant. If you like spicy food, I highly recommend the king curry with chicken daily special. Go a spice level below what you're used to if you want to be a bit cautious, because it can get very hot. But it's so good. I also really like their pad see ewe and Bangkok noodles. Sometimes the noodles kinda stick to each other but I don't care because of the great flavors all around. The pad thai is good , but sometimes it needs oomph so I add ALL THREE of the condiments provided with it (spicy chili sauce, some jalapeño vinegar and a kinda fishy sauce) and then it's wonderful. Oh I also once had their tom kha soup and once again, flavorful deliciousness. The only thing that makes me sad is that I once ordered the green and panang curries, and they were too thin/soupy. Still tasted great but I like when curry has a bit more richness to them. Not worth taking a star away though. Overall, Spices is a wonderful place to get food from time and time again. I know that cost of food has gone up but you can't do both raise the price and cut the portions. I brought it up to their attention prior that I placed the last order however the portions were literally 1/2 than the time before I ordered. When you drive up, you hardly think anything of this window - I almost missed it completely but thankfully there's a huge light up sign. The first thing you need to know is that they are only doing orders to-go, so you should definitely call ahead to place your order. The second thing you need to know if that their food smells and tastes absolutely delicious. We started with the papaya salad, which I always love. It was so fresh and had a good kick (even though we got mild). We also ordered the steamed fish with spicy basil sauce over rice. This dish did not have the kick I was expecting but he had given us spice on the side. There were two fillets of fish topped with onions and peppers. The flavor was great and paired perfectly with the white rice. The seafood pad Thai was also so tasty. It was a little sweeter than I'm used to but still had great depth of flavor and lots of seafood. I will definitely have to come back and try some of the other items on the menu!!! read more

Been living in the area for over a decade, and I can't believe I've never known about this little hole in the wall! We ordered Beef Pad See Ew, Crab fried rice, chicken fried rice (my little one is allergic to crab), pork BBQ, deep fried fish with sweet and sour sauce over rice, and shrimp Pad Thai. Pad see ew was good. The pork BBQ was bomb... kids couldn't get enough! The fried rice was excellent but will try without the chicken next time (chicken was a bit bland and dry), but we loved the crab fried rice! The sweet and sour fish was bomb too! Our least favorite was probably the shrimp pad Thai. It was an odd pink color, and the flavor was mediocre but not bad. Just had better pad Thai elsewhere. This did not stop us from ordering from here the very next day because like I said, my boy couldn't get enough of the pork BBQ! So the next day we tried the Drunken Noodle (our FAVE! So good with medium spice!!), garlic shrimp medium spice was delish if you like mushrooms, and we ordered egg fried rice and shrimp fried rice, which both were good and so authentic tasting. Great little take out only Thai restaurant! I placed an order over the phone for 7 items and it was ready in about 25 minutes. They were also able to modify half of my orders to vegetarian style. My order came out to be around $80 which is a really good deal. We had enough food to feed 6 people and had leftovers. Family faves were the pineapple fried rice and the lad nah. Dish to pass on was the pad thai. It had a strange flavor and was very red--definitely not what we were used to eating. We also got the king curry fried rice which was really good but extremely spicy for mild. It was too spicy for me but my mom loved it.
