As someone who tries to stay away from a-lot of junk and processed foods, the food here is fresh option to choose from. The restaurant is centered around black heritage foods and is perfect for someone with a colorful diet. If you're in a rush, certain days can get really busy and there might be a wait since the staff has a hard time keeping up with orders but they're always nice despite being busy and greet everyone as they walk through the door. Despite things being hectic they always seem in great spirits. Their Mango Caribbean Jerk with Salmon, avocado , mango salsa , and plantain chips over salad is a go to of mine & of course just like cava or chipotle you can add to your bowl but personally this place is towards the top of my list. I visit at least monthly...very few places offer what Spiced Black does...I've come in person, delivery, carry-out, online ordering...and it's all the same....no decline in quality or service. One bowl is enough for two meals...a kids bowl is indeed plenty for the little ones. I've tried both the named bowls and the custom and prefer the custom....heck I even got so adventurous that I tried the mushrooms and they were fire too. If you are doing carry out bring your id or at least a photo on your phone. There is often a small line but it goes quick. There are a few places to sit inside and easy parking right out front. I went with two other friends and we explained to the young lady behind the section that this was our first time at this location so she told us that we can try any of the food we wanted. Some of my favorite options are the soft and crunchy plantain, the BBQ chickpeas, the pineapple coconut rice, and of course the jerk vinaigrette. Add meats like salmon or chicken to anything for even more extra delight. It's hard to determine peak times because one minute it can be empty, but then another minute the line can have 10 people haha -- but thankfully it moves quickly. And shout out to the kind and patient staff. When building your own bowl it can easily become a challenge to determine what you may want to get, but they always answer questions and offer suggestions. I visited this BOB with a friend as she raved about it for months. I was so glad to finally give it a try given its close proximity to my house. I love spicy foods. However, African spice and Thai spice are always on another level. Despite this I decided to order the Joloff rice bowl with chicken. It was so good but I couldn't enjoy it the way I wanted to because I just couldn't handle the spice from the sauce that I got on it. The flavors were there. The freshness was there. I walked right in during the lunch hour on a Wednesday and was promptly greeted. I got the soul bowl as is with bbq chicken. I really appreciated that they had both grain-based and greens-based bowl options. I will be back within 24-48 hours to try another bowl, because this one was absolutely delicious. I originally heard about it on TikTok and decided to give it a try because it's similar to the other "create your own bowl" places but with a Caribbean and southern twist to it. Phenomenal. I absolutely love the fact that there are so many black owned restaurants in Maryland. I'm even happier that one is less than 10 min from my home. I heard a lot about Spiced Black from friends and decided to check them out on day for lunch. The interior of the restaurant was very clean and welcoming. The staff had wonderful customer service. Unfortunately due to popularity of the bowl I wanted, I had to wait about 15 min for the collard greens to cook. I gladly waited as I wasn't the only one lol! I purchased the BBQ southern soul bowl. It has white rice, roasted sweet potatoes, charred collard greens, and supposedly homemade cornbread croutons with Cheddar Cheese Sauce. I added the chicken sausage because after tasting it, I had to! Unfortunately, I did not get the homemade cornbread croutons and I didn't notice until I was home. Okay, so, before even going, I called to check on the gluten free options. The person on the phone was so nice and patient. I wanted to get either the yellow rice and sofrito bowl or the mango jerk Caribbean jerk salad. I was told that the sofrito bowl was totally safe but if I get the mango jerk salad, I would have to change out the salad dressing. I got in the car and make the trek to the spot. The store is bright and vibrant. I love the layout of the store. It smelled AMAZING. Like Sunday dinner. I get in line. There's people in the line but it moves fast. I ordered the yellow rice and beans Sofrito bowl. Unfortunately, they were out of avocado so instead, I got the mango salsa. Let me tell you, this was absolutely amazing. Every element in the bowl was seasoned very well. Initially I thought they skimped on the shrimp, but there was a lot of food in that bowl. It was really great. The only thing I would change is that I would definitely get the avocado if they had it next time and I would get only half of the Sofrito sauce and put it on the side. It was great but just a preference. I didn't eat the plantain until the next day because I was so full. I put it in the air fryer and it was amazing. I saw a video of Spiced Black on my FYP, and immediately sent it to my boyfriend because he always mentions the lack of healthy food options in PG county. Their food looked so fresh and delicious, so I knew he would check them out and they're literally up the street from him. He ended up going that same day, and built his own shrimp bowl. He praised the food, and I knew I would have to check it out for myself too. We went there earlier today and I got the Mango Caribbean salmon bowl. It had romaine lettuce, mango salsa, grilled salmon, plantain chips, avocado and jerk dressing. It was phenomenal! The portion was just right, and the ingredients melded so well together. I also got a side of red rice, and that was seasoned well and tasted really good. Lastly, I got a slice of rum cake, and it was sweet, moist, and airy. My boyfriend had a grilled chicken bowl, and he enjoyed it too. I wish I got pictures. Service was quick and efficient. They had a pretty long line, but moved fast. Seems like a pretty popular spot. The sauces are so good (depth of flavor) that it's hard to choose- the coconut curry, etoufee and sofrito are standouts. The salmon, shrimp and BBQ chickpeas are great, the cabbage- don't overlook the cabbage! The collard greens are soggy or overdone, they're sweet and crisp and well cooked. Today I had the pleasure to eat in person and it was absolutely divine. The menu is robust, with many vegan and vegetarian options. In fact, their entire menu can be made vegan minus the etoufee. Server Kanye J was absolutely amazing and I was blown away by the genuine customer service, it was evident he likes what he does and has extensive menu knowledge! I settled on the Pineapple coconut curry bowl which Kanye recommended and I was not disappointed. The bowl was so fresh and filling and the Salmon was top tier it tasted so good, better than dinner Salmon at some of these restaurants. Anyway, I loved loved loved the cucumber mint lemonade it was so refreshing, not too sweet and a bit tangy (just right )and the rum cake was oh so good and I must say I do wish the cake slices were bigger! The place is nicely decorated inside with beautiful African art. They have a variety of bowls to choose from with suggested proteins or you can make your own. I went with the mango Caribbean jerk with the suggested salmon. I also opted to add a little bit of coconut rice and was given the option of dressing on the side. Oh and they have fresh juices that are made with agave. I got the tropical punch. I couldn't wait to get back to the office to try. It was all so good. The salad was delicious and tasted so fresh.
