When you are paying for a service and the salmon comes with square, there trying to up charge for sauce that you should get with your meat. You should not be charged an additional amount for sauce, Employees should have enough respect not to argue with a customer , them when I address the so call manager she agrees, sorry very arrogant , unprofessional young black men and women. Caveat: I ordered Dat Jerk from Uber Eats. Today, I ordered oxtail with rice and peas and Mac n cheese. The total was around $32 which I feel is a bit high for the number of actual oxtails that you get in the meal. This particular restaurant has been in the Waldorf area for quite some time. I would opt instead to go to the Thai restaurant a few doors down. I say a social media post about the chain recently so I decided to give it a try. I had the ox tail with rice and peas and cabbage. I was not disappointed. The oxtails fell off the bone and the rice and peas were a nice complement.I also had the cocoa bread and it was ok. The restaurant itself is small with most of the action surrounding the serving area where you order food and pay. There is some seating but it appears at least that day just a spot to carry out food. I was visiting a friend in the area and needed something to eat and after seeing they had a good rating on yelp decided to grab a bite to eat. I was truly disappointed as I was starving since I hadn't ate since that morning and it was after 6pm. I felt good about getting food since they were busy and decided on brown stew chicken and the honey jerk salmon. The salmon wasn't bad but definitely not fresh and slightly overcooked. I didn't get that much of a jerk taste but the glaze was tasty. I love, love brown stew chicken and was excited about my meal but when I opened that container, I was HIGHLY disappointed. I thought they had given me beef not chicken but it definitely wasn't brown stew at all. It didn't even taste like an authentic brown stew (total waste of $). The rice and peas seemed more like white rice and they just added beans and no coconut milk, scotch bonnet or thyme was used... couldn't have. The cabbage was just ok. The plantain was cooked perfectly. I ate a little of the rice and cabbage with the salmon but threw the chicken and remaining rice and cabbage in the trash as it was inedible. Maybe this was not their specialty but I doubt if I'm in Waldorf again I would stop here. Not much interaction with the staff as I spoke to the 1st person via a microphone to place the order and the 2nd person packed and passed me my food after ringing it. The inside looked fairly clean and they had plenty of seating. UPDATE: I forgot I also purchased a piece of cake. My wife placed a large order( enough to feed 18-20 people) of tropical chicken, rice and peas and cabbage one day prior to Mother's Day. Upon arriving to pick up the order at 2pm ( the agreed upon time) on Mother's Day, I was advised by the manager that they completely ran out of tropical chicken. My guest were scheduled to arrive at 3:30pm for dinner. The manager nonchalantly suggested that I go to the Glen Arden location to secure the main entree. Really! This was a pre-order. Words cannot express how disappointed I am in this establishment. We were heading out for vacation and decided to try out this place for the first time and I placed an order online and picked it up. The packaging was AMAZING. As soon as we returned from vacation we all insisted that we try this place again. Having lived here for almost 5 years and never tried this place was crazy, so we thought! I'm a super busy mom and business owner, so I try my best to find places that have GREAT PACKAGING because I DoorDash more than I'm happy to announce. SO adding this place to the list was a no brainer. We placed an order for a little over $160. When the package arrived, I noticed that the bag was open. Enough to be able to tamper with the food. Of course, I HATE complaining but this was completely against the reason why I even ordered. So I kindly contacted Dat Jerk and explained what happened to the manager Erin or Erica. She stated she knows for a fact that my package was closed when it left. I told her I could bring the food back, I could send her videos, I even explained that I could send the video from my ring camera showing it was open. She was very empathetic and told me that I didn't need to do any of that. She said she would contact her regional manager and would contact me right back. Well that was on a Monday. 5 days later, I called her back to ask her for an update because we still had the food and I was expecting a call. I placed the bag in my freezer and to be honest, I completely forgot to reach back out because re had already made other plans that Monday. When I called her back. I simply said, are you still waiting to hear back from the regional manager. She said, "she never called you" I said no. Then she said, oh I thought she was going to call you. Let me check because she said she was going to give you a $25 credit to your acct. Mind you, I don't even have an acct that I am aware of. I told her that I still had the food and would could bring it back to her and she said no because all she would do is throw it away. So this is why I assumed that they issued a refund and $25 credit. However, to confirm, I asked to be certain because the mere fact that she said she would call me back and didn't was a red flag. All in all, it was not about the money because I am VERY aware that people play games, that is why I insisted to bring the food back when it was delivered, but she told me no. Then to bring the food back 5 days later was just a bit much for my peaceful energy and I didn't feel like engaging with the manager who may need the regional manager that may not have been available. I am writing this to say, I don't care who fault it was. There should be protocols in place to protect their food and my safety. Regardless whether it was the driver or them. This could have been handled so much better. To the $25, don't bother, I will not be returning and I know that may be a needle in the hay stack, but this was my experience. Just okay for me. Friendly staff. Small portion - of protein, anyway. I had a lot of rice and peas and minimal pork to support it. There was some pork that was all fat, so I kindly pushed that to the side. The island sauce is super yum! I really enjoyed it until I ran out of pork. Really good plantains. I may try it again and maybe get something different. I got a curry chicken bowl for someone else and that looked to be like a really healthy portion, so I'm guessing maybe it depends on what you get for how generous they are. Da Jerk can be found nestled in between several little restaurants in a strip mall area...but don't let that dismay you. The food is FANTASTIC! I ordered the dark meat jerked chicken bowl with cabbage and plantains...the meat was not dry at all, cooked perfectly and seasoned with a spicy jerk sauce, this chicken was mouthwatering both in flavor AND in spicy heat. Whoooah...I asked for the jerk sauce (an additional cup) on the side and boy did it lite my mouth up. But I'll admit... I LOVE spicy and flavorful food. The plantains were perfectly cooked with crispy ends and a rich flavorful and not overly mushy center. The cabbage was tasty, came in a decent portion and for fun I added some of my leftover jerk sauce. Bam! Deeeeeeelicious.
