This is an Italian restaurant, and we ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, Branzino, and finished with tiramisu for dessert. I enjoyed both entrees--the flavors were great--but I do wish they had been served hotter, as they were only warm. The tiramisu was delicious. Next time, I'd like to check out their Happy Hour deal--$15 Monday through Friday from 3-5 pm--which includes a glass of red or white wine, a bowl of pasta (capellini pomodoro or spaghetti bolognese), and a sweet surprise. read more

Came here on a Friday night and didn't have to make a reservation but the place was packed. Good ambiance and service. We tried the Spaghetti with Clams and the Rigatoni Al Cinghiale, both costing around $30. I personally really enjoyed the Rigatoni but I found the portion size to be small for $30 and have definitely had better in the Bay with larger portions for a lesser price. The salmon was moist in the inside. The potatoes and veggies were ok. Zuppa Di Pesce, which it's cioppino with a small portion of pasta. I wished it came with a little more seafood and pasta. It was just ok. We had better cioppino elsewhere. The Palombo Livornese Con Risotto was supposed to come with Halibut. This is not the Spiazzo that i remember. I'm honestly really disappointed and would not be coming back. I don't even remember having a single conversation with our server José. The hostess took our order, brought us water, and he just dropped the food off and picked up the check. He was clearly checking in with his other tables so being busy shouldn't be the excuse. We made a reservation @ 5:30pm on a Monday for 11 people and they were very accommodating. The service was spot on and they took care of the entire table without a hiccup. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, despite the restaurant not being the biggest, it fit quite a few tables but did not feel cramped at all! The food was pretty good. The calamari and the sauce that it came with was SO good! Everything tasted amazing, was fresh, and filled our bellies up! I got the Scottadito, which is a rack of lamb chops, and I have to say, it was seasoned to perfection and cooked to a beautiful medium rare. My husband got the lasagna and he thought it was really tasty! The bread with their sauce was so delicious as well. It was bothersome they didn't let us choose a booth seat when we had made reservations weeks in advance. They said there were going to be a lot of parties coming in and out. It didn't get that crowded throughout the meal. We ended up with a wobbly table. The service felt rushed with the waitress who was always in a hurry to do something and kept forgetting things we asked for (napkins/lemon wedge) and for the birthday surprise cake she was going to bring out. We were happy with our meal at Spiazzo. We had a simple meal with our pup lucy in their outdoor parklet/patio (which is covered). They offered to set up the heater, but we were fine. Finding dog friendly dining in SF can be a challenge, but there are lots on options in West Portal. We enjoyed the appetizer meatballs with bread service. I didn't love that the bread/foccacia was served cold and a bit dry.... But, that didn't keep me from eating it all. Came here for Father's Day lunch. Choosing Spiazzo's a year ago would result in a great meal, either between pizza or pasta. I am dedicated fan of the margherita pizza and spaghetti alla vongole. I have come here with my family countless times ever since I discovered this place in high school - I am in my early 30s just for perspective. Today was nothing short of a big disappointment. First, the decor has unfortunately changed as part of a major renovation the business went through - the furniture and walls feels cold and modern, unlike its previous use of warm tones and bright oak colored furniture to evoke a sense of family and welcoming. The staff has completely changed - nobody in the kitchen and in the front were recognizable other than the owner with the dark rimmed glasses. We were seated in the empty restaurant, with only one other table with a small family present. We put our orders in, but in between the time we placed the order til the entrees arrived, no complimentary focaccia was brought to our table. This may have stopped, but it was a nice gesture in the past and it's unfortunate that this has stopped. As for the food, I turned to my go-to spaghetti vongole, this time in the wine sauce. See photo. Though it visually looks ok in the photo - this dish missed a few marks on the checklist. The sauce was watery, so watery - it just sat at the bottom of the plate and didn't actually stick to the pasta. You could mistaken my dish for a soup if you moved some of the noodles around. And the taste - the wine used in the sauce was ok, but it was not a memorable taste. The clams were fine, all opened - no dead ones. All others at the table were dissatisfied with their dishes, this includes: penne alla salmone, salmon omelette, and desserts like the tiramisu (this looked melted when it came to the table), cannoli, and chocolate mousse cake. All desserts were overly sweetened, and just didn't taste the same - quality was noticeably lower compared to the desserts we used to eat here. The only wait service we received from start to finish was: take our orders, refill water once, take away plates, give us the bill, give us a takeout container. We were not asked how the food tasted, therefore, we did not share our thoughts with management. The average price for an entree here is around $30, but keep in mind that portion size has scaled down as is customary in these difficult post trump-inauguration times. Would I rather spend $30 getting groceries to make this food at home? Yes. All I can kindly say is something needs to change. This place is usually packed - no empty table during holidays. This place could only manage 4 filled tables on Father's Day for lunch, on what is usually a busy west portal. read more

A family favorite! We've been coming to Spiazzo for years and it's always consistently very good. Easy to make reservations and we always get seated quickly. We've eaten many dishes here. The lamb shank is excellent, prepared to tenderness & full of flavor. The pizzas are also excellent and conducive to sharing. The pastas are all tasty although we've noticed some of the portions such as the ravioli seemed to have shrunk a bit, it's still done well. The veal dishes are done a couple of ways and served with vegetables & potatoes. The panino sandwich is made with roasted vegetables & slices of pan-seared chicken. They have booths along the wall. They always do an exceptional job with their food. Eating mates loved their dishes of cioppino and ravioli (cheese and spinach). I had the meat lasagne and it was yummy. We got to sit and chat and eat. Very enjoyable. There was only one waiter in the noon time and he didn't miss a beat. Was looking to catch up with some family friends on a Thursday night, over some pizza in a "nice" place. Spiazzo hit the spot with quality apps & pizza along with pleasant vibes. Also served with a darker wheat option. Perfect with a glass of wine. This itself could be enough for an appetizer! Fried Calamari - 3.5/5 - Light, crispy, fresh. Burrata & prosciutto - 4/5 - Fantastic combo of mild burrata, salty thin prosciutto, and a subtly soft sweet pear all drizzled with balsamic. The burrata pieces were thick. Went well with the complimentary bread. Pepperoni pizza - 4.5/5 - Quintessential pepperoni pizza with the simple good quality ingredients, thin crust, cheese pull, and light greasiness. Don't by shy to indulge. Prosciutto & Arugala - 4/5 - I'm not the biggest fan of this combo but it definitely surprised me. The prosciutto melted in your mouth. The saltiness did cook into the cheese, giving a more salty slice. The bitterness of the arugala really felt like it was much needed and balanced it all out. Pizza Tricolore - 3/5 - A whimsical choice 2 pizzas in one - Margherita & Pesto - representing the Italian flag. All pieces were simple and good. Enjoyed the Margherita half the best. Get this if you like pesto and can't decide. Tiramisu - 4.5/5 - Homemade piece of art. Super fresh, sweet enough, fluffy mascarpone, with dripping cholcolate sauce & cocoa powder. this place is another great hidden gem of san francisco that you all really should try. No question the big hits are the two items on the specials menu the Petrale Sole and the shrimp and scallop pasta. They are both light and full of flavor and absolutely fabulous. That is a very competent chef who knows what to to do with great ingredients. They don't go overboard with toppings but still there's a descent amount there to feel like you actually ate something all at a reasonable price. No question under normal circumstances I'd say go there but with a caveat. Get the food to go. The place is small anyway and the server there is a pompous jerk who seems too busy to care. That's fine in other places but not some place like this that is trying to be high end. So I would strongly suggest avoid all that and just get the food to go. read more

Very beautiful and calm environment that doesn't play loud music. The spaghetti bolognese was $23, and I added a side of meatballs for $11, so it was a bit expensive for spaghetti and meatballs, but it is very tasty. We started with the bread that is served with a pesto sauce ($1.75 for the bread service). It was ok, although I'd probably skip it next time. I ordered the gnocchi with oxtail ragout. I liked the texture of the gnocchi and the sauce was flavorful. Hubs ordered the spaghetti cacio e pepe - creamy and the goat cheese was subtle. Lots of spaghetti, so it was quite filling. I wanted the tiramisu and hubs went with the chocolate pot de creme. The tiramisu portion was generous and so good. I'd return just for that and coffee. Their menu is extensive so much to choose from sometimes I wish they limited their menu with the classics. I always choose this place when we are a big group of friends there is always something for everyone to enjoy. The vibe is casual yet cozy and familiar. This restaurant is a family favorite! I've been coming to Spiazzo for 20-something years and it's always consistently very good. It's easy to make reservations and we always get seated quickly. We've eaten many dishes here. The hubby loves the lasagna and his favorite is lamb shank, which is excellent, tender & full of flavor. The pizzas are also excellent and great for sharing. The ravioli is my mother in law's favorite, which she highly recommends. My lunch favorite is the salmon frittata and the butternut squash soup is excellent. We like the variety of wines and prosecco, and OMG, the decadent desserts, you HAVE to try their Zabaglione. If it wasn't made of egg yolks, sugar, mother's love, and angel's wings and 10,000 calories, I'd be there every day. It's so good. The service is spot on, they are attentive without hoovering and they don't try to rush you out the door. Their prices are pretty decent considering how the costs have increased in the restaurant industry. I recognize many of the same servers thru the years, which is a good sign. In the early and late evening West Portal transforms into a great place to dine. The addition to Elena's Mexican Restaurant the West Portal corridor is one of the most overlooked gems in San Francisco. In the early stretch of West Portal avenue is Spiazzo Ristorante which offers Italian Cuisine. Spiazzo's Ristorante has inside and outside dining via Parklet. They also offer a good variety wine menu by the glass or bottle. I had to try their Spaghetti Bolognese and the Lasagna Al Forno as a litmus test to a good Italian Kitchen Ristorante. The Spaghetti Bolognese had fresh noodles and also had a good meat sauce to it. My only wish would have been they added a little more of their tasty sauce to the Spaghetti Bolognese pasta (paste). Next the Lasagna Al Forno which was delicious and had the appropriate right amount of noodle and meat sauce and it did not feel like I was having a meat and cheese casserole even with the minimal amount of cheese to the Lasagna Al Forno. Spiazzo also offers Pizza ( Pizze) and other main dishes (Secondi) .It's good to see West Portal is continuing to grow as a fun lively dining experience in the San Francisco experience.
