This review is long overdue. Earlier this year I had the responsibility for organizing a Celebration of Life event in San Francisco. I researched catering options and ended up choosing Apres Vous because they are a well-regarded local restaurant and because of the cooperative and helpful attitude of Stan, the owner. Stan gave me great advice when it came to menu selections to ensure that the items would work for everyone present. And he was flexible when I requested changes and wished to upgrade the dinnerware even though it would add more work for him. On the day of the event, Stan and his crew arrived early and were totally organized when it came to set-up and the presentation of the food. The food was delicious and enjoyed by all. The servers did a great job and the crew returned exactly at the designated time to do a very efficient and thorough cleanup. I could not be happier with my experience with Apres Vous. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and the level of service that they provide. In addition, they are genuinely nice people to deal with. I wholeheartedly recommend Apres Vous for both their restaurant and their catering service. read more

In a rush to a dinner party/potluck? Not sure what to bring? Absolutely no time to prepare anything, but it's gotta be somewhat classy and not from a supermarket? Après Vous saved the day for me when I dropped in there right after a busy running-late-oh-so-hectic day before rushing off to the East Bay for a friendly potluck! On this quieter side of Taraval just a block or two off of 19th Ave is Après Vous.. Before you are long counters full of classic dinner entrees such as Meat Lasagna, Quiches, Pulled Pork, Beef Tri Tip, Roasted Potatoes, Rice Pilaf, Mixed Veggies, Mashed Potatoes, Roast Turkey and many others. The menu seems to vary daily, with a more basic menu on Saturdays. Closed Sundays from what I've observed. Parking is convenient right out in front, and so is transit, with the L-Taraval Light Rail line just outside too! Pricing seems in line with the fancier supermarkets, but I think it's fair for what you get. This is also a great place for a quiet meal by yourself or a companion, as there are a couple of small tables by the window where you can watch the world go by. It's a peaceful place with friendly attentive service. I look forward to trying this place out again anytime and exploring their selections! read more

Drove by several times, but didn't realize they have ready to made hot foods. We were in the area walking by and the scent of the food emanating from here is what caught my attention. We checked it out - quite a few hot items to choose from including desserts/sweets. The mushroom frittata was light but flavorful (about $5). The chicken cutlet ($14) was crispy and also flavorful - just wished there was a little more sauce. The price of both items were determined by weight. My parents have been their fans since they first opened and have been raving about them ever since! We were excited to check them out and weren't disappointed. I had the pulled pork, which was juicy and flavorful. The bacon was perfectly thick and crunchy. The rest of the fam bam crew ordered a variety of sandwiches, the stuffed portabello, roasted garlic clove, etc. Also appreciated their rare drink assortments, like their hugo spritz mocktail in a can, as well as their balsalmic vinegar assortment from Modena, Italy - our fave brands! Last but not least, we also got the baby back ribs to go, and the chicken thighs, w roasted cauliflower, zucchini, carrots, and potatoes for dinner. My daughter and I stopped by Apres Vous to take out some warm foods, which did not disappoint our palates. We ordered a juicy rotisserie chicken, stuffed portobello mushroom, salmon cakes, a pulled pork sandwich, signature chili and a drink. We enjoyed everything except for the chili, which tasted kinda sweet. They have a few tables to sit here now in this clean well-lit space. Service is warm and friendly. Thank you to the whole team at Apres Vous! I was the guy who came in asking a bunch of questions re their food before my upcoming hip surgery. I took home several types of soups, white beans n sausage and lasagna to help stock up my freezer. So glad I stopped here vs getting the typical frozen entrees at the supermarket! Fresh with great flavors and textures in all of their items. Coming from this hobbling chef ........ high praise! Also don't forget to pick up one of their flourless chocolate cakes in the freezer! Just across the street and up the block from Guerra Quality Meats (review: https://yelp.to/Fgco3N9gQy), this new corner market was a nice find I just happened upon while strolling on Taraval. Looking quite Parisian and feeling very spacious, it was a most inviting spot with quite a long display case of delicious-looking hot food. Perusal of the various platters was a pleasure. There was a refrigerated section and a separate room with a freezer and canned seafood. I wasn't planning to pick up dinner, but I caved into temptation. I bought a couple of meaty Italian Spare Ribs with cooked vegetables for $19.94 (photo: https://yelp.to/8qVKj1y7ia) as well as a hearty serving of Sautéed Seasonal Vegetables for just $4.49 (photo: https://yelp.to/8fMoDxURQh). I found this gem near work and I go sometimes twice a week. Parking is easy. So if want an easy dinner option where you can pop in and pop out with flavorful menu choices then Apre Vous is for you. The Chili is great and well priced. $7.50 for a pint. The lasagna is hearty and good. There is usually an assortment of sausages. My favorite is the Italian sausage The assorted home made cookies are excellent as well. Chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and white chocolate macadamia. We've eaten here 3 times so far and it's been a treat. This time I had the Pastrami Ruben sandwich. It was on Toasted Sourdough instead or Rye but it was still very good. I also had the lentil soup which was also very good. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and seem to be proud of the offerings here. There is seating available but it is limited. They do a lot of takeout. It's a nice place to sit and nosh a bit. Or - you can stuff your face (my wife and I find the dishes filling). We dropped in a month ago and had a very pleasant experience. Mr Gee was out front and gave an enthusiastic tour. He assured us that his co-owner, chef Richard Chagniot, do not use MSG. We ordered just a couple of items and they were positive. One was a cheese, Le Chatelain Camembert ($17/#). I let it sit in the fridge while I ate up my other ripe cheeses. It tastes young; not unpleasant but without character. More memorable was one of their hot items, Boeuf Bourguignon. It was in a tasty tomato sauce but without veggies. At home it tasted fine, but I wonder how any veggies would have improved it. Apres Vous is not by any stretch (mais, il se peut, un realtor's stretch!) in West Portal. This stretch of Taraval deserves to have retail stores and restaurants, but we've been confounded that only the wine and butcher shops have survived over our own 40 years in the westside. Perhaps it's too secluded, commercially speaking. It's a few blocks from both a couple of churches, a Safeway and a popular Italian restaurant (also long survivors). Hoover Middle School, perhaps Lincoln HS, L-Taraval passengers, could get in the habit of dropping by for a quick to-go entre for their dinners. When I first stepped in here one late afternoon, my initial impression was that prices were on the high side. However, a few months later, I've been coming in here for lunch, and prices are in line with the usual SF inflation. Food is good, and ingredients are fresh! The staff is helpful and friendly. So far, I've had the pulled pork sandwich and the roasted turkey sandwich. Apres Vous will be in my lunch rotation in the near term, and I've got my eye on the quiche, lasagna and stuffed portobello mushroom. More pictures to come! read more

Really cool spot. The beans and sausage cassoulet thing was great. Really made me want to get better at beans. The corned beef around st patties was also very good. Looking to support a local small business and have another side dish for dinner, I decided to stop by Apres Vous to give their food a shot. Their interior of their shop is fun. A great combination of an old time shop feel with a touch of modern to it. Aside from their fresh hot food, sandwiches, and fresh cold food - they also sell packaged sardines/tinned fish, chips, sauces, cheese, drinks, and more. I ended up getting a pound of their pulled pork and it was delicious. Great flavors and super succulent meat. I also was able to meet the owner who was a very nice and friendly person. I really really enjoy this place and I've been here six times now. I've so far enjoyed the cassoulet with beans/sausages (especially the smooth sausages), portobello mushroom steak, chicken piccata, rice pilaf, turkey club and pulled pork sandwiches, lasagne, and ....... beef tongue!!! Yum!!!!! Typically, if I get a sandwich, I will call the rest of my family while my sandwich is being prepared and ask my family what they want --- and then other non-sandwich-making employees help with assembling the rest of the order. The only thing I've had which I found underwhelming was the roasted chicken (blandly seasoned) but maybe it was an off day. Regardless, every thing else has been ultra tasty and convenient. I go to Apres Vous often enough now that both the young Asian lady behind the counter and the proprietor recognize me (although they don't know my name) - lol. The place is really cute. Following up on a recommendation from a friend, we recently tried the meat lasagna and the chili from Aprés Vous, and were very impressed. The tomato flavor in both dishes was bright and sweet, and the sauces were not too salty, unlike dishes we've had from other takeout places. The portions were generous and the prices reasonable, making Aprés Vous a good last minute lunch or dinner choice. They have hand-helds like sandwiches (hot and cold) available as well as gourmet hot food selections. This past weekend I went on a "glamping" trip and took along a meat lasagne from Apre Vous that was delicious. In addition it was so neatly packaged , it fit perfectly in our cooler and Richard wrote my reheating instructions right on the foil so no chance of instructions getting lost. It was the hit of the weekend--very high quality food. I talked with the staff a few days ahead of time about what dishes would work best and they had several suggestions that were very helpful. This is also the perfect spot to pick up food when you don't want to cook. I always feel like I am eating healthier when I eat their food rather than my own. read more

I hope Apres Vous survives and thrives. I am posting a review to direct people there, since they have been open only a couple of months as of this writing (April '24). They have good food at moderate prices (for San Francisco; it is all relative). They could use a wider selection, but that probably will develop over time. My wife and I were driving by. She lives less than a mile away. (I reside in New York City, more than 2500 distant). Probably she goes by this venue every week, more than once. It used to be different food to-go, run by the butcher that is still down the street. I'd describe it as a neighborhood place. It isn't someplace you'd travel across town to get to, for take out. The options were tasty. We had pasta with shrimp and scallops; a whole chicken; and two small pieces of salmon. These were all much better than anything we could make. They could be served at a fine dining sit down restaurant, and they would pass muster. The pasta had an alfredo sauce. The seafood was fresh. The whole chicken deserves compliments. It was moist, and I am not a fan of chicken (my wife was vegetarian for decades, but the doctor told her she had to increase her protein intake, and urged consumption of chicken). The salmon was tasty. It had interesting peppercorns adorning it. I looked around. They have pantry goods and fresh desserts. The bill is what you would expect in the Bay Area. That is to say it is not cheap -- that is a description, not a criticism, because if you want workers to receive decent wages, that will be passed along to the consumer, and we understand residing here necessitates a certain budget. Apres Vous is the type of small business I admire. I want entrepreneurs to succeed. They must have significant rent, especially given how what is, for the offerings, a vast space. I suppose catering constitutes a significant aspect of the business. In any event, I would not hesitate to stop in again if I needed to pick up a meal. That means they are very useful. read more
