Great food crispy bacon, runny eggs special homemade potatoes. Nice soft and fluffy pancakes. Generous portions. Service is top notch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is not big but really clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even the restroom smells good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is an all gender bathroom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]].
I haven't written a review for New Taraval Cafe in a while so it's long overdue. I love the owner Stanley so much because he's an awesome dude and we share the same name. Great food, fantastic selection. Long waits on weekends because of how great this place is. I usually go for the Irish sausage over scrambled eggs or the California scramble omelette. Highly recommend with my utmost respectful regards.
First meal of the year (HAPPY NEW YEAR!) and of course we had to go to a diner! Frequent place we venture to as it is within walking distance from the apartment. My bf and I came out here around 1ish (we didn't go to sleep until 4am) and were lucky enough to be seated before they closed at 2pm as there was a long list of people ahead of us. White board for you to write down your name and party size. We waited outside and luckily it was just drizzling. Stan the owner was great and personable with us once there was room inside to wait. We left around 2:20 but there were a few stragglers left but we didn't feel we were rushed and the staff was eating with us after the diner rush. We got the French Toast Delight to share as we are watching our sugar levels. Cinnamon French Toast Topped with Strawberries and Bananas. Served with Whipped Cream for $15. I got my usual Denver Omelette - Ham, Bell Pepper, Onion for $17. LOVE that their (12oz) OJ is freshly squeezed as that is best for me for $7. Recommend the variety of hot sauces they have which most if not all of them Orlando himself makes. My bf got the Huevos Rancheros - Corn Tortillas, Cheese, Bacon, Rancheros Sauce, Sour Cream, Green Onions, Queso Fresco, 2 Eggs, Served with home fries for $18. He got coffee that was refillable for $4. Video as a reminder to ourselves to ask for it without sour cream. If you know my bf, you know why.

When I got my French toast and scrambled eggs, I tried each umami sauce - all nicely spicy! A friend told me that he enjoyed a breakfast here several months ago. I hoped to try them during the holidays but they were closed those mornings. In arranging a Sunday morning meetup with my travel companions before our trip, I chose this corner spot for brunch. A friend arrived there first and signed up for a table as two parties were ahead of him. After I dropped a friend off and found parking across the street after driving down a few streets, I walked over to the restaurant. I sat at the side bench as my friends waited in front for his name to be called. About 15 minutes later, we were led to a four-top table on the left halfway in. Given menus, we talked about the variety of breakfast and special menu items before ordering our meals. A friend opted for coffee while my other friend and I had ice water. Being tempted by a couple other meals, I chose the Mexican omelette (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=BAmIhBo7m7c7b9oLJw1vsw) with English muffin dry with peach jam (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=yu_UiS-EU0Cs1ue2AgwBgw); chorizo, jack cheese, topped with Ranchero sauce, avocado, and sour cream. All items in the breakfast basics and omelettes and scrambles sections come with home fries and a slice of toast, mixed greens, garlic red potatoes, or fruit sub for potatoes + $2. I enjoyed my omelette though I likely would have enjoyed this more with a Spanish sauce (ie Spanish omelette). I topped the home fries with ketchup and hot sauce. The portions are generous as I was already full after eating about 2/3rds of the fries and apportioning half of a half slice of the English muffin. I was tempted to have the loco moco (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=wgplnRTeSGRvmjBkeiGMmQ) and was considering bringing one home instead. When my friend said it was okay, I decided to save it for another visit. Service was really nice, a real feat given how busy there are. There was a line still as we left albeit a short one. One of the other waiters also struck a conversation with us about a humorous situation, given that this was technically a breakfast meeting. I will likely stop in on the next holiday morning to have breakfast. This is a great neighborhood breakfast place in San Francisco. The food is fresh, tasty, plentiful and made to order. The service is professional, proficient and personable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is friendly and colorful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love the California burrito. It is huge and I share it with my husband with both of us being satisfied when we are done. I would come back again and again.

My friend had the omelette and I had a BLTA! Really good and fast service. Even great coffee for a diner! I don't get to the city much but recommending to friends who live here!!

I've had this place bookmarked ever since I saw a review on social media. The review focused on their cookies, but the food looked good enough to try. Parking is all street parking, which can be hit or miss. The establishment itself is small, and you'll need to write your name on the waitlist. Fortunately, I only waited about 10 minutes before being seated since I was a small party, and larger groups were waiting for tables. My fiancé and I were seated at the counter. Italian Omelet: This was good but not something I'd order again. The potatoes, however, were disappointing. They had the texture of boiled potatoes that were lightly stir-fried, with only a few crispy spots. Most were soft, soggy, and lacked flavor. I prefer super crispy potatoes, so I'd definitely sub these out next time. They also needed a lot of sauce, salt, and pepper to make them more palatable. Breakfast Burrito: This was just alright. It was a bit wet and greasy, which wasn't ideal. One thing I did love was their hot sauces. They seem to be a recipe from one of the workers (his face is on the logo), and they're all delicious with a nice kick. Definitely a highlight of the meal! If I'm in the area and craving diner-style breakfast, I'd consider coming back, but I'd definitely try different menu items next time.

If you're looking for a classic diner breakfast, this spot definitely gets the job done. We've had better chilaquiles elsewhere, and I do wish the fried potatoes were more like hash browns, but they also served at least three different homemade salsas that were delicious and added a lot of extra flavor to the potatoes. Haven't been to this restaurant in ages since the change of ownership. Service remains top-notch, with staff who are consistently friendly and attentive. Food is consistent. We ordered the corn beef hash (using beef brisket) with scrambled eggs and home fries. We also ordered two pork chops (thin cut), over easy eggs and home fries. The pork chops had good flavor but a tag overcooked and made it dry. It also came with toast and homemade jams.

Their home potatoes are like fried mashed potatoes and I loved them. Orlando's hot sauces were all so flavorful too. I tried every one of them and they were all good but I have my top two for sure. Can't wait to go back again... maybe tomorrow lol
Came in to eat some late late breakfast but was told it was burger night. No biggie, got the meatball burger and it was good! It came with a fat portion of crinkle fries. There were a few tables and seating at the grill. I had no problem getting seated right away on a Monday night after work. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The chef at the grill gave me a friendly farewell when I was on my way out. Nice spot and I shall put this on my grub rotation.

Hubby and I had breakfast here today Wednesday arriving around 8am. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Within 15 minutes all the booths were taken. Folks also sat at the breakfast counter[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Our breakfast items took time as several parties came within minutes of each other. Ordered - * if hubby sees loco moco on the menu, he'll order it. The eggs were cooked exactly how he likes it. Runny. * I ordered the Taraval breakfast- two eggs scrambled, two strips of bacon, and two pancakes. Everything was perfect. Service was efficient, and our coffee cups refilled promptly. #13 on eat in the 'hood list 2026. read more

Swung by back in February on a Saturday around 11am and tables were full. Very no frills, lively and nice people working there. There was a waitlist inside by the entrance. Took about 15 minutes to be seated. Ordered their Hot Link Scramble and really enjoyed it. Good heat from the hot link and pleasantly surprised that their house hash potatoes was more mashed potato like with and crispy exterior. Their hot sauces are tasty. Servers were attentive and routinely came back to refill waters and coffee. Very friendly and welcoming neighborhood Cafe. read more
Friendly and welcoming vibe the moment we walked into New Taraval Cafe. While checking out the breakfast/lunch menu, we noticed the hot sauces on the table and the server looking like the guy on the hot sauce bottles! Well, it turns out, the server made these sauces during the pandemic due to the sriracha shortage and high prices! While I'm not into super spicy sauces, my partner is! So we got Orlando to sit down with us and talk about his hot sauce concoctions. It was interesting to hear about the fermentation process and trying to find the right combinations for each flavor. He's still working on more sauces and perfecting the ones he has on the table. Our favorite among them was the habanero sauce because it had a little bit of sweetness and a definite spicy kick. Haha my tongue was numb after tasting them all with my fries, but it was enjoyable. Thankfully, these hot sauces don't burn all the way down the throat. It stopped at my tongue. I'm sure milk or some dairy would have helped, but I only had water which helped cool it down without a problem. I'm glad Orlando makes them tolerable even for weaklings like me! On to the food..... ***OUR PICKS*** SMASH BURGER ~ My partner's been searching for a good smash burger joint, but still hasn't found his favorite spot yet. We saw this on the menu, so he had to try it out! While the edges were crispy, the burger was well done. He was hoping for a medium done burger. I'm not even sure they could make it medium done since the burger has to be flattened. The fries weren't crispy, but they did the job on mopping up the hot sauces we were sampling. 3/5.5 FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH ~ I enjoyed the crispy battered chicken filet that was in my sandwich. It's nothing fancy, but the chicken was crispy and that's all that I could hope for. Typical fixings in the sandwich which were okay. Fries could have been thinner, so it would crisp up better or the potatoes weren't dried enough to get crispy. But I think these were house made and not frozen, which is better than most restaurants. 4/5 The best part is the service! Orlando and staff are great with their customers. It feels like a fav neighborhood diner spot with patrons who live in the area. Hope to come again to try other things on their menu like their breakfast dishes. read more
Service here is wonderful! I love the friendliness and willingness to accommodate our needs; feels like home!! The grandkids insisted on helping pour the cream into our coffees and ended up dribbling much of it on the table. The wait person happily wiped it up and said, "Well, that's how they learn." How very understanding and sweet! This time, I shared a breakfast burrito with my granddaughter and, to my benefit, she didn't want any pico de gallo/tomatoes or mushrooms, so I had them put them on the side (which they happily did) and I had them all for myself!! The eggs, cheese, avocado, and bacon, along with the pico de gallo and mushrooms and salsa they had on the side made for an unforgettable burrito! It was maybe one of the best I've had in a very long time. My grandkids' dad had the loco moco and gave me a taste; it, too, was sensational. If I didn't share with my granddaughter, that's what I would've ordered, so next time!! My grandson ordered the Taraval Special Breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, and two huge pancakes. some of the best service ever, staff are so nice and welcoming and really like to know their regulars. the food always hits. my personal favorite is the eggs benedict, literally so good and the garlic potatoes. this is the perfect brunch spot and i'll keep coming back. read more

The hospitality shown by Stanley my waiter and the whole staff in general. Everyone was pretty busy but they still stopped by to make an effort to speak with me. Came in on a Sunday by myself it was a great family owned business. 10/10 from me. The salsa was amazingg , i'm mexican btw. 4.5 stars on yelp and a line out the door at 9:30am on Sunday? I definitely wanted to try. The wait wasn't too long. The staff was really nice to keep us informed on wait times. We both got the special of the day, which was the Mexican omelette - chorizo, bell peppers, onions, jack cheese, avocado, sour cream. Served with home fries and corn tortillas. The portions are pretty good; neither of us finished our food. read more

Overall I had a wonderful experience here. The cookies here on the weekends were excellent. Good texture contrast, nice crumble, not too sweet, and very flavorful. The steak and eggs is what you'd expect from any value diner, except here it's better prepared. The smashed potatoes made the texture 10x better and extra crispy. Service was excellent. Ambiance is any typical diner. I really enjoyed eating at this place. It reminded me of the good old days in SF, where there were more of these diners all around the city, like bashful bulls. read more
Amazing food the wait staff is phenomenal! My only complaint is many of the food items come ala carte (e.g: bacon or sausage w breakfast order, adding cheese to the burger). The food was delicious, I had scrambled eggs with cheese, a side of black beans and a couple of corn tortillas. Oh yea, and two pieces of bacon, cooked to perfection. The waiter was great, super nice and the eating area super cute & tiny. read more

I've known about New Taraval Cafe since college and it was a staple breakfast spot if you ever wanted something somewhat close by. It almost felt like a hidden spot as you could come anytime and there wouldn't be much of wait. However, it seems everyone knows about this place now and you can expect to see a line of people waiting outside which is well deserved. I love breakfast, especially from diners. My fiancée has never been here even though this place has been around for a long time, so we decided to go on a Sunday morning. Got there and there was a bunch of people standing outside. Wrote our name down on the whiteboard and waited maybe 10 minutes before they called us in since the groups ahead of us were all 3 or 4 people. We got seated at the counter and ordered immediately since we were looking at the menu outside. I wanted to try out the breakfast burrito and she got the Italian omelet. Waited maybe 15 minutes and our food came out. The breakfast burrito was filled with eggs, bacon, beans, potatoes, tomatoes, and came with a side of tomatillo salsa verde. Tasted a bit greasy and it was falling apart, but it was filling for sure. The Italian omelet had Italian sausage, mushroom, onion, tomatoes, avocado, mozzarella, and pesto. Quite the combo, but wasn't too sure how the avocado worked with the rest of the ingredients. Highlight for us was Orlando's hot sauce though! Went great with everything and had a nice little kick. We would come back and will stick with the more traditional breakfast options. It did seem like a lot of regulars come here and the staff are all friendly. read more

listen. i think this might be one of the best brunch spots in the Sunset neighborhood. (i know this is technically parkside but it's a slim border to me ok lol). for me, this place is tied with Art's Cafe for #1 brunch spot in the area off rip what i appreciated the most about NTC was the indoor seating. ...and it's not just cuz i was there during the bomb cyclone and was just relieved to be not wet AND hungry lol. yes it was small inside, but what great cafes aren't? but the magnificent vibe was amplified by the coziness. the place was packed. all the people working there are very kind, but the main server (forget his name, but he was a young ish (late 20s?) asian man in a red shirt) who whisked around the floor chatting up every table he catered to. his personality brightened up the vibe of the place. it was VERY clear he knew many of his guests on a personal level (unless he didn't, then he's just a very extroverted guy) so it was all just so charming then of course, the food: piping hot and large portions. the side of potatoes was excellently crispy. my entree for Joe's Scramble was alright, i relied heavily on the hot sauce options on my table. but their menu was the perfect amount of options (more than 1 page but no more than 5), and had a fair number of sweet brunch options that i wanted to try next time. i will deffff be back :) read more

Visited this wonderful neighborhood gem of breakfast spot again. We had the New Taraval special breakfast, fried pork cutlet special, and breakfast sandwhich along with coffee and the fresh squeezed orange juice. Noteworthy is Orlando's house-made fermented chilli hot sauce which is tangy and adds a nice kick to any dish. Service is always welcoming and efficient and ambiance is family-friendly. Highly recommend! read more
