Pistachio creme brûlée
Tiffany F.

Had a very pleasant dinner here! We came early before 5:30 to try the early bird dinner. The service was quick and they tended to the table very well. Plates and silverware were replaced after each course. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful. I would say one con of the place is if you're there while the sun is low, the sun is VERY aggressive. We had to move around the table a bit because of the lack of AC and the sun blaring on your face. It would be nice to have something to block it since it really overheats you when it's directly on your face and body. The courses were great. Since we had 3 people, we were able to try one of each item. Appetizers - the sea bream was a showstopper, absolutely beautiful and the fish was fresh and the sauce was so complimentary. The Bloody Mary oysters were delicious, the oysters weren't briny and very sweet and creamy. I'm a fan of bloody Mary's so this was a hit. Their salmon appetizer was lackluster, it didn't have much flavor honestly and it was a bit boring. The quality of the fish was good though. The fried leek was my favorite appetizer. There's a heavy mustardy base that was so complimentary to the fried leek. I would say it was a bit sloppy to only be able to cut it with a dull knife but the flavors were 10/10. The entrees - the pork tenderloin was cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious. The hazelnuts offered a great contrast in texture. The mushroom Vol Au Vent was delicious and unctuous but I would say if that was your only entree it would be far too heavy. The sauce was to die for. However there were some hard bits in there that did not go well that may have been the chestnuts. They tasted a bit stale. The sole was cooked perfectly and they really nailed the sauce. A very delicious take on the sole. Dessert - the pistachio creme brûlée had an incredible flavor, wasn't too sweet. But it's not a traditional creme brûlée if you're expecting a very light and creamy one. It was thick and a bit grainy some parts but the flavors were delicious. The chocolate cake was decadent for sure but honestly a bit too much for us. If you're a big fan of thick chocolate fudge you'd like this. Drinks - we ordered their espresso martini which is made with soju and that was delightful. Not too sweet and great foam. We had a citrusy one I forgot the name. It had a beautiful presentation and just tasted like a delicious juice. Great for those who don't like the taste of alcohol. Overall had a great meal here. Their regular menu is a bit on the pricier side (like $30 mussels). I'll probably be back for their early bird dinner because it's a really good deal for what you get. Thanks for a splendid dinner!

Got to try caché during their restaurant week. We had a reservation right at opening at 5pm, and we had a table in their small outside area. Service was attentive the entire night albeit our server didn't seem too enthused. Overall, we wish we ordered à la carte since the restaurant week menu price ($70) ended up being almost the same price, and we would've picked other dishes. Appetizers were a bit of a miss, main courses were great, dessert was good (although I wouldn't get the cheese plate again since it's just not what I enjoy). Additionally, we did order their seabream sashimi ($58) which was SO good and probably the best dish of the night. It's a beautiful dish that they make only 10 of in a night, so you have to order it quick if you have an early reservation! Appetizers - - Bread and butter: solid, bread was nice and warm and the butter was delicious. It ended up going well being dipped in the other dishes. - Cold green asparagus soup: not a fan, wasn't enjoyable cold - Salmon gravlax: good, nothing outstanding Main courses - - Duroc pork tenderloin eggplant puree: tender pork and smokey eggplant. Cream sauce was nice. - Petrale sole & parsnip: this was so good. Probably the second best dish of the night - the fish was perfectly cooked and the parsnip was incredibly buttery and addictingly good. The apple was a nice touch. Highly recommend! Dessert: - Cheese plate: a bit funky but if you like that, I think you would enjoy it. - French financier cake & yogurt ice cream: solid! Financier cake was soft and piping hot. The date was a nice sweetener and the dish wasn't too heavy. Overall, I would come back!

REVIEW FOR BRUNCH Very busy on a Sunday had to make reservations to sit outside in the cute patio. Service was slow. Server forgot the cocktail. I ordered took a very long time to put in our orders. Duck confit buckwheat crepe: 5/5 tell me it's French cooking without telling me. Confit sooo tender. Star of the show. Tender duck paired with the perfect cheese. Strong mushroom flavor. Loved! Smoked salmon Benedict: 4/5 the Benedict itself was average. There's nothing wrong with it, but tasted like any other Benedict I've had. The best part was definitely the potatoes. Perfectly salted and the outside had a nice crunch. Steak: 3.75/5 meat was tough but flavor was good. For sure, a stunner in terms of ambience for a Sunday brunch. Take the patio if you can. The inside would be really cute for date night. Restaurant could improve in their service and flavors for brunch Benedict's. Friends told me that dinner here is better.

Pleasantly surprised at how good dinner was! I've been meaning to come when this place first opened but never made it out until last night. They have a semi-new "early bird menu" until 5:30pm daily and it was a really good value vs ordering a la carte. Everything I wanted to try was on this menu, so it was a no brainer to choose this. I ordered the fried leek (5/5), mushroom vol au vent (3/5) and the pistachio creme brulee (4/5). My partner chose the roasted bone marrow (2/5), pork tenderloin (4/5) and the dark chocolate cake (5/5). We also ordered a couple of cocktails, glasses of wine and the scallop carpaccio (5/5). For the lower rated items: mushroom vol au vent was too heavy after a couple of bites and the puff pastry was overbaked making it tough. The roasted bone marrow had good flavor but had the tiniest amount of actual bone marrow. They gave you a lot of crostinis but in reality there was enough bone marrow for maybe 2 tiny crostini pieces. Everything else (including cocktails and wine) were really good and I plan on coming back when the sea bream sashimi is back on the menu (late march/early april according to our server).

Caché has an early bird special for dinner. $50 for 3 courses from 5-5:30pm. Such a good deal! We started with the fried leek and bone marrow. For the mains, we ordered the petrale sole and seasonal mushroom vol au vent. And for the dessert, we both got the pistachio crème brûlée since it was so delicious the last time we had it. Everything was amazing! We enjoyed every dish, they were all seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The service was great as usual! I know I'm in for a great meal anytime I'm here.

Rice pudding with caramel sauce

Tasty food. Very helpful service in a cozy, airy and bright location. I started the meal with the Tuna Rillette as part of their 3-course prix fixe menu. This is basically a very tasty tuna salad. I then had the Petrale Sole with Seaweed Butter. The sole was quite flavorful for a small white fish, with the seaweed sauce topping bringing a little more earthiness to the taste. The fish was accompanied by many flattened new potatoes, baked with seasoned olive oil (a carb treat). I concluded with a Riz au Lait. This is equivalent to rice pudding only the rice was plump with a creamy flavor and topped with a rich caramel sauce to contrast with the just-right sweetness of the pudding. With the meal the server suggested Chateau Cazebonne Asteries 2019 Graves (Merlot). This slightly tannic, mineral and fruit taste was a good complement to my meal.

Warm reception, nice waitstaff and beautiful interior. We bypassed the prix fixe menu and chose à la cart at lunch. I was excited to see buckwheat crepes and I ordered one with caramelized onion, mushroom and cheese. My friend had the crab croissant sandwich. It's a nice little neighborhood place.

Summer Sea Bream Sashimi

Went to celebrate a birthday and the food did not disappoint. Expect to spend ~50/person if you want to be full. Definitely a high end restaurant. They charge you 4 dollars for bread. Recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Sea Bream Sashimi is their signature dish (43 dollars). It was delicious and came with the actual fish which I have never seen at other restaurants. It was fun to scrape the sashimi off the fish bone after we were done with the slices. The roasted cauliflower was my absolute favorite. It sounded like a simple dish but it packed so much flavor and the grains were perfectly moist with seasoning under the cauliflower. Did not have anything special for birthdays though which was disappointing. Ambiance was upscale and on the quieter side.

I've been trying to trying this French restaurant in the Sunset for ages and finally got the chance to. Their take on Fusion French food definitely caught my eyes. Sea bream Sashimi (5/5): definitely could not without getting this. The fish was plump and so fresh. In addition, the sauces complimented the flavors of the fish. Surf and turf crudo (5/5): This is a beef tartare and oyster dish. I thought it was super fresh and it was the most unique tartare I've ever had! Sole (5/5): The fish was tasty. The sauce was creamy and brought a unique flavor I've never experienced before. Overall really enjoyed this place.

Bitter sour mocktail

Came right after Thanksgiving this year and it was relatively busy on a Monday night - you can definitely get a table but also there's a good vibe. We sat on the patio which is well-heated. Believe they had blankets on the chairs as well if needed. Was bummed they didn't have their signature sea bream sashimi anymore but tried a ton of other dishes. Everything was either solid or simply not to our personal liking (too sweet or fishy etc.). Standouts were the bread and duck. Would definitely recommend trying - what a sweet spot. APPETIZERS Bread - get it, in fact get 2. it's so good. Bloody Mary oysters - didn't hit for us Tuna - just ok, get if you want clean protein Surf and turf crudo - interesting but real fishy Mussels, bone marrow - well-done! Folks especially loved the bone marrow. MAINS Duck - so good we ordered another, though one said she got a chewy piece Pork tenderloin - good though quite sauce heavy Halibut and sole - solid and light DESSERTS Warm cookie w caramel, peanut, almond gelato - reaaaally sweet Buckwheat maple tart - crowd fave, such a delicate crust Financier - enjoyed contrast with the yogurt but some found that too sour Also had a really great sour mocktail! Service was great. They were mindful of pointing out dishes for shellfish allergy. This is just tea but I did have to ask for it again after awhile of waiting and they comped it since they realized they forgot. Prices look high but sizable portions and very cute space. As always in the sunset parking may be challenging. Really glad we checked it out!

Sashimi and mussels
Priyanka S.

I came to cache bistro with a friend and sadly it was not the best. While the food was decent I was not a huge fan of the dishes we ordered. We decided to get the sea bream sashimi and the mussels. The sashimi while aesthetic, was quite lackluster and bland and the fish did not taste as fresh as sushi spots I have been to. The mussels on the other hand were definitely better but were grainy and the broth was very watered down with mild notes of chorizo and garlic. The service however, unlike the food, was great and the staff was very friendly and kind.

Restaurant week brunch 2025

Cozy and vibrant spot on 9th and Irving featuring a gorgeous bar at the front of house and indoor and outdoor seating towards the back. My friends and I stopped by after a lovely visit to the DeYoung Museum on Saturday afternoon, which just so happened to habe landed on the end of Restaurant Week SF. Their menu sounded scrumptious and we were excited to stop by. Very lovely and lively crowd, we were quickly greeted upon arrival and were seated at the bar as it was quite busy. For $45/pp, their menu was well designed and showcased some amazing items that I thoroughly enjoyed: - Appetizer: 4pc Oysters - Entree: Eggs Benedict with Salmon, side salad and satay potatoes (the poached egg was perfectly cooked and laid to delicately on the buttery toast topped with smoked salmon. Well seasoned and would come back for this) - Dessert: Pistachio Creme Brulee (this was fantastic and carried the pistachio flavor well, with a great crust) Friendly service and good food. Worth a visit, and if you like drinks, their drink menu looked quite delicious!

Warm cookie, caramel, peanuts, sweet almond gelato

Had a great dinner at Caché! It's a small and cute space, perfect for a date night. - Bread & butter: 5/5. Warm and soft. - Summer sea bream sashimi: 4/5. Beautiful presentation and very refreshing. FYI it's only available until 11/16 and won't be back on the menu until spring. - Duroc pork tenderloin with eggplant puree: 5/5. The pork was super tender and paired really well with the eggplant! - Warm cookie with caramel, peanuts, and sweet almond gelato: 3/5. It was good but a little too sweet for me. Service was friendly and super quick. Overall I really enjoyed the dinner and wine here and would come back to try the other dishes.

The inside of the restaurant is charming, with plentiful bar seating to watch as dishes are prepared in front of you in an open kitchen. The menu itself is constantly evolving and may be different with every visit. That being said, the main menu is a prix fixe 4-course meal with the option to add on 2-3 additional dishes to share. The meal starts with a amuse-bouche, generally a cold soup. For us it was a chilled golden beet soup, which tasted a bit like a nice, creamy sweet corn. One of the add-ons was the pâté de campagne, a blend of pork and fatty liver. Paired with a dijon mustard and fresh sourdough bread, it was surprisingly elevated for such a simple dish. Next were a pair of fish dishes that were the highlights of the meal, including sierra mackerel with fennel and peach, and monkfish and smoked butter. The monkfish was a particular standout as it was coated with a dill sauce, and complimented with the sweetness of diced rhubarb and earthiness of hazelnuts. The monkfish featured a smoky and lightly spiced flavor. The dish was extremely well-balanced and paired sweet, savory, sour, spicy, and smoky to a tee. Really excellent. The octopus and yukon potato was an add-on - the octopus was extremely tender, not rubbery at all, and the potatoes were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft like a mashed potato on the inside. The meal ended with a hanger steak which was solid, but compared to the other dishes, less extravagant. The dessert featured a rose sorbet, with milk foam and strawberries. As a whole, Mijoté dishes are simple, layered and extremely satisfying to eat. While presentationally may not blow you away, the taste will leave you feeling satisfied. The blend of French and Japanese culinary tradition and cuisine, Mijoté is comforting, elevated, and balanced. Very rare to find fine-dining that tastes so great while also feeling homey at the same time. If in SF, absolutely worth a visit.

We started with an order of crispy pommes frites and their special crab puff pastry. Both were nice starters. Then we followed that with Bijou Goat Cheese salad. They also had a nice wine list and we selected a good Napa cabernet sauvignon. For entrees, I had the Chilean sea bass that was breaded nicely and cooked perfectly tender over a bed of mashed potatoes and greens. The others in my party had the rack of lamb, duck confit and special entree of pan seared dayboat scallops and risotto. All dishes were solid but probably the best were the rack of lamb and seabass. For dessert, we shared the creme rules and chocolate fondant cake and I had a decaf latte, too. Both desserts were nice and rich but creme brulee was especially smooth and creamy. A standout moment of the evening was the seamless coordination of the staff--they actually slid the table out for me to ensure I was seated comfortably, a rare touch of old-school class that you just don't see often enough anymore. Every need was anticipated before I even had to ask. The Menu & Wine The decor & ambiance is very romantic, low lights. Nice art on the walls. The flexibility of the menu is a major draw. Having the option of a 4 or 5-course meal allows you to tailor the experience to your appetite, and every dish was a literal work of art. To pair with the meal, their wine selection is world-class; the sommelier offered impeccable recommendations that elevated the entire evening. The Finishing Touches What truly sets Gary Danko apart, however, are the "extras." We ended the meal with a beautiful complimentary treat from the chef, which was a delightful surprise. To top it all off, we were sent home with their signature pineapple breakfast treat. Enjoying that the next morning was the perfect reminder of a flawless night. Verdict: An absolute must-visit for foodies and anyone celebrating a special occasion. Five stars doesn't feel like enough! Small gripe: only 1 rest room. Unika B. & Co. Mindset Maven

I booked this through OpenTable, where reservations open up about 60 days in advance. Since I was…read moreplanning a 50th birthday and really wanted the private room for our group of seven, I actually set an alarm for midnight to snag a Saturday night spot right when it dropped. For the private room, you have to choose between a 5:30pm or 8:45pm seating. Even though I've been hearing about this place for decades, this was surprisingly my first time actually eating here, and it did not disappoint. For parking, they don't offer valet so the easiest options are to take an Uber or park a block down at the Ghiradelli Square garage. We showed up 15 minutes early and were escorted to the private dining room in the back, up a few steps. As noted on the reservation site, there is no wheelchair access to the private dining room. The room had a great vibe. Much quieter than the main dining room and dimly lit but not so dark that you couldn't see anything. Even though the large oval table seats ten, it was perfect for our group of seven; we had plenty of space to stretch out. They kicked things off with a massive wine list and cocktail menu. I thought about bringing a bottle of wine but corkage was $100/bottle. Our party stuck to cocktails, and I started with the "Breakfast of Champions." It's a twist on an Old Fashioned made with cereal milk-washed Maker's Mark, which was interesting and actually pretty good, but for the second round, I just went back to a classic Old Fashioned, my go-to drink. Their menu is available as a 3-course ($130), 4-course ($165), or 5-course ($185). The menu lets you pick from appetizers, seafood, meat and game, a cheese selection, which they curate, and dessert. The cool thing about Gary Danko is that you don't have to follow a set order. You can customize the whole meal however you want. If you really wanted to, you could even just pick main courses! We all went with the 5-course meal. Why not? I chose 2 appetizers and 3 main entrees: 1) Crab salad - although it appeared "small", it was beautifully plated with a fresh spring salad, grapefruit and orange wedges, and 4 pieces of dungeness crab leg pieces on top of an avocado quinoa "cake". It was the perfect dish to start with. 2) The lobster and rock shrimp risotto was the star of the show! While I expected a small appetizer portion, the dish was surprisingly generous. It was packed with seafood and was the best risotto I've ever had! 3) Next up was the roast lobster, and it definitely did not disappoint! The plating of the tail and claw was stunning (see my picture), and the sauce was next-level. I actually had to use some bread to soak up the leftover sauce, yes, it was that good. 4) Keeping with the seafood theme, I went for the seared scallops with fregola, cumin carrots, and arugula pesto. The scallops were perfectly seared, and the whole dish was so flavorful that I had to grab another piece of bread just to get every last bit of the sauce. By now I was stuffed and had no idea how I was going to fit the 5th course coming up! 5) To be honest, by the time the beef filet with potato gratin and bone marrow béarnaise arrived, I was already so full I could barely enjoy it. The steak was incredibly tender and came conveniently pre-sliced into four pieces, which made it easier to pick at, even though I was stuffed. The timing of the meal was perfect, with about 25 minutes between courses so we never felt rushed. The service was also top-tier and the staff moved in sync to present everyone's plates at the same time, kept our water glasses full, and cleared everything quickly. Plus, they kept the table stocked with fresh bread between every course. I wish I went easy on the bread and butter. The several slices I ate definitely put me over the top! Since we were celebrating a 50th birthday, they brought out a slice of chocolate cake with a candle. It arrived right alongside the chocolate soufflé one of my friends had ordered as a course, so we all just dug in and shared. That soufflé was incredible. They also included two plates of petit fours to share. Because there wasn't a booking after us, they let us hang out as long as we liked, and we finally headed out around 9 PM. It was honestly one of the best dining experiences I've had. If you have a group of 6 or more, I highly recommend booking the private room, it makes the whole night feel so much more intimate.
