The best meal I've had in a very long time. Some good friends took us here and I'm absolutely blown away by their food, flavors, and service. Everything was perfect. I can't wait to come back next and try more

amuse bouche (carrot)

I like their concept of rotating menu based on seasonal ingredients! Tried really interesting ingredient combos (lots of nuts, cream, mushrooms, fresh greens, and seafood in the menu). I really liked the amuse bouche carrot soup, steak, and the mushroom & scallop vol au vent ($28 add on). Definitely pretty big portions as we left very full after 5 courses. Service was a bit hit or miss as some staff seemed more engaged than others. I expected a bit more welcome/intro and explanations of the dishes, but found the interaction with staff a bit lacking.

I saw Mijote on Resy and decided to give it a try for date night and I'm so glad I did because my boyfriend and I LOVED it! They have a rotating menu based on local produce and vendor offerings so you don't really know what you're walking into but everything is noticeably fresh and delicious. They have a 48 hour cancellation policy so be careful. They sent like 3 warnings to me via text though so if you miss that mark, it's 100% on you. Additionally, someone from their staff text you day of your reservation to confirm any allergies or dietary restrictions, which I found very helpful. The restaurant itself is very small and very intimate, they have a sushi bar style counter where they prep most of the food so you can watch the staff basically do everything "non- cooking" related I.e. prep the greens, plate the food, sear the fish. The only thing I believe that was done in the back kitchen and then walked to the prep area was the cooking of the tuna and steak. It was so fun watching them do everything. The service was great! All of the servers assist in the food prep so they're always pretty busy but even so, they were always on top of everything and were all so kind. The only thing I will say though is that our server didn't really explain much about the menu or food to us when we were seated and I wish she did since I saw and overheard other servers going over everything with their tables. Oh well. Food was fantastic. I feel like it's hard to make mackerel taste upscale since it's a pretty bland white fish but somehow they did it! All of the dishes came together well and all of the flavors of the different ingredients blended and complimented each other perfectly. I'm still dreaming of the white chocolate ice cream with grapefruit and geranium! Dinner for 2, 2 beverages and an added course came out to 216 pre tax and tip. Not bad at all. Will definitely be back.

Mijoté in San Francisco delivered one of the best meals I had all of 2025, easily Michelin-star worthy (though I hope it stays under the radar to avoid inevitable price hikes!). From start to finish, the pacing was impeccable, the staff incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and every dish expertly constructed but, above all, delicious. The ambiance is very cozy as it is a relatively small space, which I thought really added to the experience. Standouts included the refreshing and crisp scallop dish, the deeply savory squid (highly recommend adding it on if available), and the rich, perfectly executed hangar steak. On top of it all, the value at the current price point is unbeatable. A true neighborhood gem that has been flying under the radar for some time but already looking forward to my next visit!

I forgot to take a picture of the scallops, but everything tasted absolutely incredible. Absolute W of a restaurant. Their menu changes EVERY WEEK, so there is always something new to go back to :) cost without additional drinks are 105$ after tax and gratuity (mandatory 18%?). Definitely a nice and affordable spot for both weekly date nights and a celebration. Note: I am but a 21 year old college student who eats too much with an unrefined taste palette. Upon entering, they greeted me for solo my birthday and seated me down the same second. Diner beware, although it is a "hole in the wall," it was completely full on a Sunday night, requiring pre-carded reservations. It was not too difficult to book it for a person, but I would still book 5 days in advance. We started the meal out with a very... small soup as an appetizer. It was cold, creamy, and had a smooth mouth feel. Delish. Just wish I had 2-3x the amount. It had maybe the equivalent of a shot glass. Then came this masterwork of swordfish(?), green apple sauce, onion, and various vegetables depicted in the second picture. The fish practically melts in your mouth, and paired with the crunchy vegetables and apple sauce. It was a unique, but excellent pairing! The steak was cooked rare to ensure the correct texture for the meal according to the chef. They cannot cook it more for this reason. Although I am a lover of rare steaks, some do not, so buyer beware. Super super tender, juicy, it is not like a classic American steak, but couldn't put my finger on it. It was very evenly cooked inside, and I couldn't help wondering what kind of magic the chef put inside. The scallops were one of my favorites. The texture was very QQ, and frankly tasted like heaven. Although I'm not a fan of small cabbage, they had a savory, creamy sauce which throughly seeped through any and all crevices of the cabbage. There was some nice crusty crunchy sourdough to go with it. So very delectable. 0 complaints. (I am a biased scallop lover, however) I vividly remember the dessert - it was bitter from the pomelo, but balanced out with sweet notes of white chocolate and milk chocolate crumble infused inside this absolute joy of an ice cream! If anything, come here for the dessert. There was also some geranium foam going on, which added to the presentation. Fun fact; this place used to be a omakase place. I liked this as it's uncommon to see chefs prepare food in this kind of setting (vs stir fry, kbbq, omakase which is commonly done in front of you). You can really see every step of the way, from plating, putting the sauce on, and this was quite cool as without the dude also solo dining next to me, there wouldn't have been much more to see or do except to stare into space pretending to be occupied! Imo it's kind of like art unfolding in front of your eyes or something. All in all, it wasn't too much food; I am 4'11 and usually take 1.5 courses back to eat, but finished it all. The portions are a bit smaller than usual, though you can argue it was so good that I gobbled it all up If you want to go anywhere REMOTELY nice, this is a top notch spot for SF!

We came to Mijoté to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. This was also our 2nd visit here. Like the first time, every dish on the prix fixe menu was a hit. They started us off with sierra mackerel, beets, saffron aioli. Very interesting combination to have mackerel and beets in the same dish. The fish was nicely seasoned with zero fishiness. Next came the scallop, brussels sprout, matsutake. This was my favorite course of the bunch. The scallops were perfectly charred. The matsutake and the hazelnuts gave the dish a nice crunch in contrast to the scallop's softness. Next we had our add-on dish emigh lamb mijoté ($32). This was a very rich dish with a strong taste. The lamb pieces had a good ratio of lean vs fat meat. Only wish it came with some bread to dip in the sauce. Next came the standard main dish: hanger steak, broccoli, smoked butter. It was a sizable 4oz steak cooked to medium rare. The au jus was good but the smoked butter was amazing. I tend to like my steak more medium so I wished we could choose. Lastly the dessert: mandarin, white chocolate, matcha. This blew me away. The white chocolate with a bit of matcha tasted amazing with the vanilla ice cream. I initially expected to get fresh slices of mandarin but instead they were frozen that tasted like little flavor bombs. I don't know what the crackers were made of but they were addicting to eat. Overall I think $84 (without the lamb add-on) was a great value for this delicious 4-course set. The portions were generous for this type of fine dining. I can't wait to try their next menu rotation.

My hubby and I had dinner here on my birthday last January. I thought I posted my review but I guess I was so excited about this place that I forgot to. Anyway, it's a small place on a corner block. When you enter the restaurant it's cozy and lively. You can see the chefs by the bar preparing the courses. Everyone greeted us as you entered in. We were seated at the bar, in the middle which I was very happy. I was able to see all the courses prepared one by one. It was like watching a cooking show and right infront of you which was amazing! Each course was beautifully designed and delicious! We also ordered the extras and I'm glad we did because I would have regretted it if we didn't. I was very full after the 3rd course, but the food was so delicious that I wanted to taste every dishes on the menu. I had my birthday candle on our last course which is the dessert and very thankful for a wonderful experience on my birthday. The owner and sous chef were all so great. They asked what are thoughts were for each course. They converse with us which was nice! This place is a must try! You will never regret it!

Amuse bouche: cold cauliflower soup
Cindy L.

I didn't have a reservation and walked in on a holiday and they kindly accommodated me. I think if you walked in right at opening or 5pm that may be possible but I wouldn't try it after 6pm as the place was packed. The interior is quite small with the omakase-like counters being in the middle. The chefs prepare the meal in front of you so it's a feast for your mouth, nose, and eyes. They take time to explain what's in each dish and answer any questions resulting in a more intimate dining experience. It's a 4 course $84 set menu with 18% gratuity and no SF mandate fee, so the bill ended up being $106 with no additional supplements and drinks. Amuse bouche was this cold cauliflower soup. Pretty yummy and creamy, great start to a meal. Just wish there was more of it because it was gone in a couple sips. Course 1: Yellowtail with purple daikon and grapefruit One of my favorite courses because the yellowtail was so flavorful and had this smokiness to it. Probably the best yellowtail I've ever had. Wish they added more grapefruit though. Course 2: Dungeonous crab with glazed onion I really enjoyed the sauce here, it was really fluffy and coated the crab nicely. The crab was tender and sweet. There's also some mandarin in it which gave it this citrusy flavor making the sauce and crab less monotonous. Only qualm is there were 2 bits of shell but that's also to be expected. The glazed onion was sweet and crispy, making it a great juxtaposition to the otherwise rich and soft crab. They also provided some complimentary bread to soak up all the sauce but I ate most of the sauce so there wasn't much left. But I enjoyed the bread as it had a crunchy exterior and a very pillowy soft interior and slightly flavored with herbs. Course 3: Hanger Steak with golden beets I usually eat ribeyes so I haven't had too much hanger steak. The steak was tender and juicy but it's meatier, beefier, and chewier, so I still prefer ribeyes. This wasn't my favorite course but that's more of a personal preference than a critic of the dish. I also wish there was more sauce because it quickly got diluted by the jus. Golden beets were really sweet and soft though. Course 4: White Chocolate Ice Cream, blood orange, tarragon I always seem to enjoy the deserts more than the actual food and this was no exception. Everything else from this meal was good but the dish that really surprised me was this dessert. The blood orange was sooo juicy, I just wish they had cut it up because I could not break it up into bite size pieces so I just had to eat the whole thing at once but I would've preferred to slowly enjoy it with the other ingredients. There's this thin sugar cracker that tastes like blood orange and it was sweet, crunchy, and citrusy, very delightful. I've never had tarragon and I wasn't really sure how'd it pair with the sweet ingredients but the bittersweet herbiness actually paired great and was a nice contrast to the sweetness of the other ingredients. I also love that the bowl was cool to the touch, which kept the dessert cooler for a bit longer. This was my first French bistro experience and was quite pleasant. I love a Japanese drama called La Grande Maison Tokyo, which is about a group of Japanese chefs trying to earn Michelin stars for their French restaurant, so it got me interested in French cuisine. Though the show is mainly about French Haute cuisine it still features some French bistro scenes, so I'm glad I was able to experience it for myself. I really enjoyed all the sauces and loved the yellowtail and dessert. Since Mijote changes their menu weekly, I'd be interested in returning again to be surprised by another one of their set menus. I've also seen some people comment on their small portion sizes but I felt like this was the perfect amount of food for me as I was stuffed by the time I finished. But it could also maybe depend on the courses served since the hanger steak really filled me up.

A precious find. This cozy spot in the Mission District only has the tiniest sign on the door, so be aware of its address. The holder for a much larger sign above the door is currently empty. Across the street is the very popular Flour + Water restaurant. Mijote, French for "simmered", is helmed by chef Kosuke Tada, who may have been the gentleman seen in the kitchen. The restaurant serves an economical 4-course menu that changes daily; there are few add-on dishes available. The restaurant consists of a long counter with a few tables alongside. It makes sense, since the space used to be a sushi restaurant. Reservations are wisely spaced, as the staff is limited. There were 2 servers/hosts/bussers, one main sous chef/plater/server and a 2nd sous chef/plater/server. At 5 pm, there were 9 diners, 7 at the counter and 2 at a table. There are just a few 4-top tables. The dinner began with a chilled carrot soup amuse bouche. The courses on this evening were: 1) beef tataki with beets and horseradish cream 2) add-on dish: crispy headcheese with pickled kohlrabi and whole grain mustard. A wonderful and rich loose pate enclosed in puff pastry. 3) shrimp, eggplant, smoked butter foam 4) Lamb loin with cauliflower and plum and a vin rouge sauce. 5) geranium ice cream with peaches, almond crumble, a wafer crisp and some sort of espuma. The other optional dishes were octopus with zucchini and the cheese of the day. All the dishes were lovely. There is an optional wine pairing as well as wines by the glass; the restaurant focuses on natural wines. There are no non-alcoholic beverage options. Service was fine, even as the restaurant filled, the staff were able to keep up their well-choreographed dance of plating/serving/ clearing etc. Great value and originality. Hope to return.

Wow, what an experience I had here. Service is top knit h, everyone is so nice and warm. They're very attentive and what was pretty neat was there seemed to be someone different bringing dishes to us every time which I thought was cool and collaborative about their flow. Highly recommend the wine pairing with the meal, just elevates the experience that much more. If you get the add-ons be mindful that the portions on the set course menu are pretty generous. I was struggling after the beef cheek plate. They will offer wine pairings for the add-ons too if you want, which is very nice. The space definitely appears to have been a sushi bar prior to, but they repurpose the bar counter for dining still. Definitely want to nab one of those seats in the future when I come back.

Came by for dinner the other night and it was a mediocre experience. Mijote is a French restaurant in the Michelin guide with a Japanese chef. Mijote is located in the Mission district and parking is available on the street. Dining is indoors exclusively and there is a kitchen counter with a view of the show. Made a reservation for dinner weeks in advance and our table was ready upon arrival. The interior of the restaurant was rustic and the staff were dressed casually. Service throughout the evening was okay, didn't felt polished as the same utensils were used all evening. Started off with the carrot soup amuse bouche which was decent. Flavors didn't really pop. Moved on to the yellowtail first course which was a gigantic portion. Despite seeing the staff torch the yellowtail, I couldn't really taste the charring. The nectarines were quite tasty though. The complimentary sourdough may have been the highlight of the meal with a warm and crispy outside and a soft inside. The sourdough was supposed to complement the monkfish course which was served with a curry-like sauce. The cooking style didn't quite feel French...or Japanese for that matter. The porcini mushroom add-on course featured a few gigantic porcini mushrooms and was served with a vanilla sauce which was different. The pork loin main entree of the evening was cooked to a medium rare and was topped with a super hot sauce that made the pork loin well done...bummer. The flavors from the pork chop I felt were quite muted. The dessert of the evening was good. ~$125/head after tax and 18% gratuity automatically added.

Lovely place. We had Mijote a few weeks back and were still talking about it! The food is all pretty well cooked and plating is beautiful. In addition to their set menu, we added on the duck and pate supplements. Their meats are very tender which made the pork amazing but the duck a little too soft for me personally. The fish courses were amazing paired with seasonal fruits! The wine pairing was not bad for the price in fact, the whole meal is great value! We had a lot of yummy leftovers to take home with us. Setting was comfy and intimate and service is great.

PJ S.

The fish dishes, bread, cheese, and dessert were all amazing. The beef main was a muddy mix of flavors and too soft without any texture and not enough acid to offset the braise. Service was meh. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived, so we waited by the front. Later in the evening, other waiting parties were offered glasses of wine, we weren't. Service seemed rushed - dessert (ice cream) was brought while one person was in the bathroom, and the check was dropped off before we were done eating.

C'est magnifique!…read more Authentic French cuisine with the cozy vibe of a bistro in France. Food is simply amazing, and some of the best I've tried ever. Have been here twice now and have left extremely satisfied. Over the past visits I've tried: Goat Cheese Salad: 4/5 very fresh and tasty, the walnut vinaigrette pairs so well with the balsamic. On the bitter side but I liked it Tiger Prawn Ravioli - 5/5, super unique and melt in your mouth. The sauce has an umami flavor and the dish is one of the best bites I've tried Steak (Filet) - 5/5, one of the best steaks I've tried. The seasoning is spot on and is very rich and flavorful Crispy Chick Breast - 10/5, my personal favorite dish. The chicken is seasoned to perfection, and the sauce lives up to the French rule that a perfect sauce is just as, if not more, important to the success of the dish. Love the mashed potatoes as well, my plate was wiped clean Desserts: 5/5 Apple Tart and chocolate cake - très bien The restaurant is tiny but it's part of the ambiance and reminiscent of a classic French bistro. Someone in our party booked this and I remembered coming here a couple of years ago and wondered why I hadn't come back yet. Lovely neighborhood bistro that's charming atmosphere with a classic feel and attentive service. We enjoyed the variety of tasty French dishes available daily and a few specials. We started with an order of crispy pommes frites and their special crab puff pastry. Both were nice starters. Then we followed that with Bijou Goat Cheese salad. They also had a nice wine list and we selected a good Napa cabernet sauvignon. For entrees, I had the Chilean sea bass that was breaded nicely and cooked perfectly tender over a bed of mashed potatoes and greens. The others in my party had the rack of lamb, duck confit and special entree of pan seared dayboat scallops and risotto. All dishes were solid but probably the best were the rack of lamb and seabass. For dessert, we shared the creme rules and chocolate fondant cake and I had a decaf latte, too. Both desserts were nice and rich but creme brulee was especially smooth and creamy. We were all full to the max! We left happy and I was glad we came back here for an early Mother's Day dinner!

Had a blast and i'm looking forward to trying their other entrees someday!

From the moment you walk through the doors, the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between high-end luxury and genuine warmth. The Service The service here isn't just attentive; it's intuitive. A standout moment of the evening was the seamless coordination of the staff--they actually slid the table out for me to ensure I was seated comfortably, a rare touch of old-school class that you just don't see often enough anymore. Every need was anticipated before I even had to ask. The Menu & Wine The decor & ambiance is very romantic, low lights. Nice art on the walls. The flexibility of the menu is a major draw. Having the option of a 4 or 5-course meal allows you to tailor the experience to your appetite, and every dish was a literal work of art. To pair with the meal, their wine selection is world-class; the sommelier offered impeccable recommendations that elevated the entire evening. The Finishing Touches What truly sets Gary Danko apart, however, are the "extras." We ended the meal with a beautiful complimentary treat from the chef, which was a delightful surprise. To top it all off, we were sent home with their signature pineapple breakfast treat. Enjoying that the next morning was the perfect reminder of a flawless night. Verdict: An absolute must-visit for foodies and anyone celebrating a special occasion. Five stars doesn't feel like enough! Small gripe: only 1 rest room. Unika B. & Co. Mindset Maven

I booked this through OpenTable, where reservations open up about 60 days in advance. Since I was…read moreplanning a 50th birthday and really wanted the private room for our group of seven, I actually set an alarm for midnight to snag a Saturday night spot right when it dropped. For the private room, you have to choose between a 5:30pm or 8:45pm seating. Even though I've been hearing about this place for decades, this was surprisingly my first time actually eating here, and it did not disappoint. For parking, they don't offer valet so the easiest options are to take an Uber or park a block down at the Ghiradelli Square garage. We showed up 15 minutes early and were escorted to the private dining room in the back, up a few steps. As noted on the reservation site, there is no wheelchair access to the private dining room. The room had a great vibe. Much quieter than the main dining room and dimly lit but not so dark that you couldn't see anything. Even though the large oval table seats ten, it was perfect for our group of seven; we had plenty of space to stretch out. They kicked things off with a massive wine list and cocktail menu. I thought about bringing a bottle of wine but corkage was $100/bottle. Our party stuck to cocktails, and I started with the "Breakfast of Champions." It's a twist on an Old Fashioned made with cereal milk-washed Maker's Mark, which was interesting and actually pretty good, but for the second round, I just went back to a classic Old Fashioned, my go-to drink. Their menu is available as a 3-course ($130), 4-course ($165), or 5-course ($185). The menu lets you pick from appetizers, seafood, meat and game, a cheese selection, which they curate, and dessert. The cool thing about Gary Danko is that you don't have to follow a set order. You can customize the whole meal however you want. If you really wanted to, you could even just pick main courses! We all went with the 5-course meal. Why not? I chose 2 appetizers and 3 main entrees: 1) Crab salad - although it appeared "small", it was beautifully plated with a fresh spring salad, grapefruit and orange wedges, and 4 pieces of dungeness crab leg pieces on top of an avocado quinoa "cake". It was the perfect dish to start with. 2) The lobster and rock shrimp risotto was the star of the show! While I expected a small appetizer portion, the dish was surprisingly generous. It was packed with seafood and was the best risotto I've ever had! 3) Next up was the roast lobster, and it definitely did not disappoint! The plating of the tail and claw was stunning (see my picture), and the sauce was next-level. I actually had to use some bread to soak up the leftover sauce, yes, it was that good. 4) Keeping with the seafood theme, I went for the seared scallops with fregola, cumin carrots, and arugula pesto. The scallops were perfectly seared, and the whole dish was so flavorful that I had to grab another piece of bread just to get every last bit of the sauce. By now I was stuffed and had no idea how I was going to fit the 5th course coming up! 5) To be honest, by the time the beef filet with potato gratin and bone marrow béarnaise arrived, I was already so full I could barely enjoy it. The steak was incredibly tender and came conveniently pre-sliced into four pieces, which made it easier to pick at, even though I was stuffed. The timing of the meal was perfect, with about 25 minutes between courses so we never felt rushed. The service was also top-tier and the staff moved in sync to present everyone's plates at the same time, kept our water glasses full, and cleared everything quickly. Plus, they kept the table stocked with fresh bread between every course. I wish I went easy on the bread and butter. The several slices I ate definitely put me over the top! Since we were celebrating a 50th birthday, they brought out a slice of chocolate cake with a candle. It arrived right alongside the chocolate soufflé one of my friends had ordered as a course, so we all just dug in and shared. That soufflé was incredible. They also included two plates of petit fours to share. Because there wasn't a booking after us, they let us hang out as long as we liked, and we finally headed out around 9 PM. It was honestly one of the best dining experiences I've had. If you have a group of 6 or more, I highly recommend booking the private room, it makes the whole night feel so much more intimate.
