A from scratch gluten free Mexican eatery for my celiac friend to try things she can't normally eat! We had later food plans so we only ordered some nibbles: - the pork empanadas appetizer: 3 small empanadas whose hearty dough and pork insides were brightened by the flavorful avocado Serrano sauce - churro waffles with caramel: 6 waffle triangles coated in cinnamon sugar with a side of sauce. Honestly I'd just order the sauce if I could it was addicting Logistics: - indoor and outdoor seating - limited street parking nearby - completely GF but beware of shellfish allergies

As someone who has Celiac, it was refreshing to be able to order anything on the menu! The service was great and the food was amazing!

Xica's interior is colorful and bright. Its large windows create a beautiful daytime/lunch atmosphere. Their vibrancy also extends to their customer service - friendly, helpful, and attentive. Their menu is gluten-free Mexican dishes with California/Bay Area influence. Overall, I thought their food was average. The enchiladas and plantains were a bit on the bland side - could definitely use more flavor. The elote wings were my favorite. It was crispy and flavorful - very impressive how they captured the elote flavor in chicken wings.

Cute little place near the ferry to alcatraz so we stopped by after our tour. Interior was warm and cozy feel. Margarita's were very good! Food was okay, a little expensive for what you get. Service was a bit of a miss. We asked for more chips as we still had a lot of salsa left from the app and it took 3 people and about 15 min to get this tiny bowl of chips. Not sure why they were so hesitant to give us more... i've never had that at a mexican/hispanic restaurant.

Absolutely amazing experience! Everything from the ambiance to the food and customer service was top-notch. We chose this spot to celebrate my friend's birthday, and it couldn't have been a better choice. I've been to many places in San Francisco, but this one truly stood out and easily ranks among my favorites. While everything we tried was delicious, I highly recommend the elotitos and arrachera fries. I'll definitely be coming back!

For my gluten-free friends, Xica is a great choice w/ a ton of options! The ambiance was great -- bold colors and playful styling. I decided to be adventurous and got the veggie tacos. I thoroughly enjoyed how delicate but well-balanced the flavors are. I do wish the portions were slightly bigger, as I left still feeling a lil' hungry, but all in all a good upper scale Mexican spot!

I've been here multiple times already and the food is always exceptional! The staff is very kind and accommodating for larger groups during lunch hours. Inside, you're surrounded by beautiful plants with the sunlight brightening up the atmosphere from the windows. I had the mexi-bowl with grilled chicken, which is so satisfying and a great portion size that doesn't feel too heavy. You can tell that all the ingredients are fresh. I recommend trying out their house hot sauce which is creamy and delicious, providing just the right spice level that isn't too overpowering in the meal. I can't wait for my next visit!

Cozy yet refined, this spot is an great place for gf and veggie options! My boyfriend and I had a lovely date night here. Parking was easy to find on a Saturday night. Food was great, but it was difficult to substitute items, such as asking for cheese only in the enchiladas or veggie flaunta since the items came premade. We ordered the guacamole, potato taquitos, loaded fries, and enchiladas. The enchiladas were a bit dry and needed more sauce and cheese, but everything else was delicious. Guac was creamy and fresh, and the taquitos were crunchy and soft on the inside.

Delicious food, friendly service, a little bit pricey. I've only been for lunch personally, but we hosted a happy hour style party here for work once. The food is always good. Gluten free friendly. I love the bowls for lunch. You pick a protein, and it comes with pickled veggies, greens, rice, and black beans. You can also pick a sauce. I love the shrimp here, tasty and not overcooked. Would recommend if you're in the area!

They promote themselves as "scratch" but are serving food out of a freezer. Way too expensive for the portion sizes.

Excellent meal, great service, and a beautiful dining area. Close to the cruise terminal if you are in port and on foot.

Does Xica have an area to host private events?

they have a beautiful side room inclosed by glass for a private party of maybe 10-15. I think they could also portion off parts of the restaurant

Where can I locate a dinner menu?

On the first page of their website at www.XICASF.com, press the two bars in the top right corner, then select Menu.

    Do you have full bar?

Yes, full service bar. We’re mostly an agave and mezcal bar.

I ordered the carnitas burrito and my husband ordered the carne asada one. We also asked the guys for a salsa picante and their house made one delivered! The ingredients were tasty, well seasoned and fresh. Service is quick, food and ambiance are no frills and cash only. I think about this burrito daily and am willing to travel across the country to get it again. Not to mention, but this is a Mission style burrito in the Mission! This is the only way to do it and I now totally understand the hype.

A few people were already in there eating, and we know this place is good, as a few others in our group and I have been here multiple times. The Taqueria is typical of any other, with bench-style chairs for folks to sit on, a water station, and workers cooking it up in the kitchen. I wasn't too hungry, so I grabbed a Super Lengua Taco, while my friends grabbed burritos, we ended up grabbing 3 complimentary chips and guac/salsa with our order and the food came out pretty quickly. When I saw my Taco I forgot how much they stuffed it and wow, two of these would've filled me up just like a taco; there was so much Lengua that it kept falling off after every bite. The flavors all came together and I scruffed down the whole thing after about 6+ bites! Definitely a place to come to if you're looking for a full meal, or something to snack on!

Definitely the best burrito spot in the city 10 out of 10 we did the Carne Asada with chips and…read moresalsa which was very fresh. The line was quite long wrapped around the block but took about 25 minutes because people come here sit down and they eat and leave pretty quickly because the lines are long. The ambience is very nice. It's like I walked into a Hispanic home. The staff here are very friendly, but please make sure you accommodate because there is a lot of people waiting in line so I'm not saying eat your food fast and leave. There is benches and tables which make it feel like you walked into a Hispanic home as well. The Strawberry Horchata and mango Agua Fresca is really good 10 out of 10.

This place is famous for their burritos and especially the "Dorado style," which tastes amazing -- BUT what they don't clearly disclose anywhere is that the Dorado style burrito is cooked in pork lard unless you specifically ask for it "dry" or with vegetable oil. As someone who does not eat pork for religious reasons, finding that out after already eating there was honestly really upsetting. And the frustrating part is that there is NO clear sign or disclosure telling customers this. If I never asked, I would have had no idea. I actually still like this spot and appreciate that they at least offer a dry/vegetable oil option if you ask, but customers should not have to investigate ingredients themselves to avoid pork. Jewish, Muslim, vegetarian, and other customers deserve transparency. A simple sign or note on the menu saying that Dorado style is prepared with pork lard by default would solve this issue completely. Great food, but this absolutely needs to be disclosed better. One of my all time favorite spots in general.
