This spot was phenomenal from start to finish. The interior was absolutely gorgeous, featuring hand-painted murals, huge windows that filled the space with natural light, and stunning high ceilings that created an elegant yet welcoming atmosphere. I tried the Arrachera Fries (steak fries), and although it's listed as an appetizer, the portion was more than enough to enjoy as an entrée. I ordered the steak rare, and it was cooked perfectly, topped with a mountain of finely grated Manchego cheese that added the perfect finishing touch. As someone who isn't gluten-free or celiac, I was genuinely impressed by the quality and flavor--it was an experience I'd happily recommend and return for.

I ate lunch alone while traveling. Cute and welcoming place. Chicken tacos are amazing and gluten-free. Not far from the Ward and piers, and has a quiet courtyard.

How have I never heard of this place? The food was so good here. Everything was fresh. The salad was served with colorful mangoes and some of the sweetest and most fragrant grapefruit I've ever tasted. It was delightful. The tacos were served on green handmade tortillas that were nice and thick and nutty and corny. The chicken was very tender and perfectly sauced. No notes. It doesn't hurt that the service and ambiance were spectacular. Very modern but still felt Mexican with colorful murals. Loved the bistro lights in the outdoor patio area. The tiles on the floor were very memorable and altogether super charming.

A from scratch gluten free Mexican eatery for my celiac friend to try things she can't normally eat! We had later food plans so we only ordered some nibbles: - the pork empanadas appetizer: 3 small empanadas whose hearty dough and pork insides were brightened by the flavorful avocado Serrano sauce - churro waffles with caramel: 6 waffle triangles coated in cinnamon sugar with a side of sauce. Honestly I'd just order the sauce if I could it was addicting Logistics: - indoor and outdoor seating - limited street parking nearby - completely GF but beware of shellfish allergies

Cute little place near the ferry to alcatraz so we stopped by after our tour. Interior was warm and cozy feel. Margarita's were very good! Food was okay, a little expensive for what you get. Service was a bit of a miss. We asked for more chips as we still had a lot of salsa left from the app and it took 3 people and about 15 min to get this tiny bowl of chips. Not sure why they were so hesitant to give us more... i've never had that at a mexican/hispanic restaurant.

Amazing modern Mexican food in a charming Levi Plaza setting (formerly Il Fornaio). We loved everything we ordered for lunch, but particularly the choices from the Botanas (snacks) section: plantain chips with a citrus-y guacamole, aguachile with assorted seafood, and corn "ribs" with a delicious spicy aioli smear. We also liked the pollo asada tacos, the warm brownie and ice cream dessert, and the rosemary lemonade. You can eat indoors or out, but we retreated to the airy indoor patio because there were no umbrellas to shield us from the hot sun. I also loved the beautiful wall fresco. Highly recommend.

Xica's interior is colorful and bright. Its large windows create a beautiful daytime/lunch atmosphere. Their vibrancy also extends to their customer service - friendly, helpful, and attentive. Their menu is gluten-free Mexican dishes with California/Bay Area influence. Overall, I thought their food was average. The enchiladas and plantains were a bit on the bland side - could definitely use more flavor. The elote wings were my favorite. It was crispy and flavorful - very impressive how they captured the elote flavor in chicken wings.

As someone who has Celiac, it was refreshing to be able to order anything on the menu! The service was great and the food was amazing!

    Ask the Community - XICA

Does Xica have an area to host private events?

they have a beautiful side room inclosed by glass for a private party of maybe 10-15. I think they could also portion off parts of the restaurant

Where can I locate a dinner menu?

On the first page of their website at www.XICASF.com, press the two bars in the top right corner, then select Menu.

    Do you have full bar?

Yes, full service bar. We’re mostly an agave and mezcal bar.

Over the years I've found myself drawn to the other contender in the Mission way more than El Farolito, so I decided it was time to head back to try this legendary burrito shop. Getting to this location is super simple as we took BART and got off at the 24th Street Mission BART station and from there it's a very short walk of less than a block to get to El Farolito. Walking into the shop one is just slapped in the face with the beautiful smells of the carne asada cooking on the grill right by the door-it's wonderful. It's a modest place that you can definitely tell was built many years ago,so no overly modern amenities-this place cares about the food, not the ambiance. We ended up going with a couple of super burritos of Carne Asada ($11.25) & a regular burrito of Al Pastor($10.25) & also added two tacos one with Al Pastor and one with Carne Asada($4.75) They had beers at $4.75-so we grabbed a couple of Modelos. First the tacos-they were just ok,the tacos were crunchy and I don't know kind of gave Taco Bell vibes. Burritos though-that's a whole different animal. The burrito was so well made from the chew of the tortilla to the seasoning of the carne asada to the perfect balance and mix of all the other ingredients.I judge a burrito harshly if the mix isn't right and you don't get every ingredient in every bite and the mix at El Farolito was flawless. The price point was pretty impressive as well. In closing, El Farolito has always been in the mix as one of the top burrito spots in the Mission, and I can say with confidence that it's in my Top 2 in San Francisco currently. It's an incredible burrito and a true "must-visit" spot when visiting San Francisco. P.S. Just a slight heads up when visiting , it's not the safest neighborhood in the world, so just keep your head up when visiting-this is a place one visits for the food experience not the ambiance.

After waiting about 30 minutes, I assumed my order would be ready when I arrived. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. They don't actually prepare the order ahead of time you still have to wait in the long line, then pay and apparently have the order made afterward. Honestly, what is the point of calling ahead if you're still required to stand in the same line and wait? I understand that they may be busy, but the whole purpose of calling ahead should be to make the process quicker and more convenient. The food may be good, but the ordering process was frustrating and completely defeated the purpose of calling ahead. Two stars from me based on the experience.

I ordered the carnitas burrito and my husband ordered the carne asada one. We also asked the guys for a salsa picante and their house made one delivered! I think about this burrito daily and am willing to travel across the country to get it again. Not to mention, but this is a Mission style burrito in the Mission! A few people were already in there eating, and we know this place is good, as a few others in our group and I have been here multiple times. The Taqueria is typical of any other, with bench-style chairs for folks to sit on, a water station, and workers cooking it up in the kitchen. I wasn't too hungry, so I grabbed a Super Lengua Taco, while my friends grabbed burritos, we ended up grabbing 3 complimentary chips and guac/salsa with our order and the food came out pretty quickly. When I saw my Taco I forgot how much they stuffed it and wow, two of these would've filled me up just like a taco; there was so much Lengua that it kept falling off after every bite. The flavors all came together and I scruffed down the whole thing after about 6+ bites! Definitely a place to come to if you're looking for a full meal, or something to snack on!
