Wine Exchange and Spectrum Wine have consolidated. Wine Exchange has left their former space and now operate their wine retail business out of Spectrum Wine. I found this out recently when I went to their old building to purchase wine and saw the notices posted on their closed door. I immediately drove the short distance to Spectrum Wine, which is located to the rear of some industrial buildings. I was greeted by folks at the front desk (who I believe were with the Spectrum wine storage part of the business), grabbed a basket, and walked into the first-floor warehouse area, where rows of wines were laid out. They were arranged by country and type of wine. They have wines from California, Italy, France, Spain, Argentina, and more. After perusing the offerings, slowly walking down the aisles and examining the labels, I selected five bottles of red wine that interested me and took them to the counter at the side of the retail room to make my purchase. The wines are ones you won't find at the grocery store or most places that sell wine. Prices are fair and range from under $20 to over $100 with some good deals to be found. Wine storage at Spectrum Wine is a terrific experience. In a warehouse sized setting, clients have various sized lockers which one may keep their own locks on. The temperature is always 55° and ones wine is well protected and kept in the best possible conditions one could ask for. Storage fees are reasonable as well. As far as staff goes, nobody does it better than Trish. She takes the time to make sure one has the right sized unit, always greets people in a kind and friendly manner and is extremely knowledgeable about the various options available to store ones wine. Spectrum Wine to the rescue!!! I contacted Spectrum this morning because our wine cellar cooling unit is failing and needs to replaced which will take a few weeks. In the meantime, we needed to move our wine somewhere safe, fast, before we leave on a long trip in a few days. I found Spectrum through an online search, and one short phone call later Trish confirmed a same-day appointment to have our wine packed up, transported, and stored until our cellar is functioning again. They provided all of the boxes and packing materials, and were in and out with our 250 bottles within an hour. I want to update my review of Legend Cellars. But first, let me say that I was kicked out of Wine Cellar Club today. Yes, that's right, kicked out. Why, you ask? Because the management at WCC did not like my review of Legend Cellars here on Yelp, the one I had written two years ago. You see, Legend is their direct competitor, and WCC seems to hold a grudge against anyone who leaves them for greener pastures, which is what I did several years ago. And the fact that I wrote a review about it seems to have hardened that grudge even more. Today, that grudge reared its ugly head. I was attending a holiday wine tasting hosted by my friends, who still store their wine at WCC. I was there as their guest. But when the management of WCC saw that I was there, they pulled me aside and asked me to leave. Can you believe that? I was not even there for 10 minutes and they asked -- nay, told -- me to leave. Now, there's some Christmas spirit for you! Of course, everyone in our group was appalled by such egregious behavior. So I promptly called Scott Osumi at Legend and told him what had just happened. Before I could even ask, he said, "Come on over." Talk about night and day! So our group packed up our food and wine and resumed the festivities at Legend, where we were treated with respect and kindness. So let me reiterate my love for Legend Cellars. It is, hands down, the best place to store wine in Irvine, and I would even go as far as to say in Orange County. Keep up the great work, Scott and Jennifer! Worst customer service I've ever received at any offline wine storage facility. Boy, has this place gone downhill since their glory days of shitting on their local competition. I am quite surprised that this place is so close by and I was not aware of its existence. It's a fine wine storage warehouse that keeps the temperature at 57 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity at 65%. I was here for an exclusive event by Legends. The owners of the wines stored there open up their cellars for a night of tasting and dining on bratwurst and spinach dip. The hallways are fun to walk around as artwork is displayed while you mingle and taste diff wines. I thought the atmosphere was pretty rad, but I had a lot of trouble walking around with a plate of bratwurst and spinach dip...while balancing my wine on the other hand. I needed an extra set of hands so I could eat! The best part of this event was the one man band in the corner. While we mingled, we couldn't help singing along to the songs he played. He was quite good and played a lot of Beatles hits, Cat Stevens, Credence Clearwater Revival, and even some Lynard Skynard. read more

I'm all about wine, but there is another level of wine that extends past my knowledge namely since it was entirely too expensive to participate. Seeing the publications for Spectrum I always thought this was one of those elite places that would be somewhat depressing since I would not participate in buying anything. However, on a recent trip there with a managing partner I discovered they had a small retail footprint in there office that is open 9-5 M-F. We had to have staff call a specialist to open the room up even though we came in within working hours. The sales rep was extremely helpful and unbiased to expensive wine. He was simply guiding us to a proper choice that he thought would taste amazing paired with our upcoming Italian meal. There were plenty of options available under the $100 mark. What was really nice is the vintage selection of retail wines. I was able to get a few Brunello di Montalcino 2006, and prior years under $60. FYI, most of the selection is French and Italian (old world) wines. With fair prices, and a location close to work, it will be hard to purchase wine elsewhere. read more

The staff members are great, extremely helpful & personable, especially Amy & Trish. They always go the extra mile. I have been storing my overflow of wine here for 4-5 years. Maybe more. Great service and people. The original Jennifer (who we all hope to see again soon!) and the 'new' Jennifer, co-owner with her husband, Scott, are welcoming and go out of their way to be helpful. This is a place I come to just to hang-out at times. So do others. There is a comfortable inside lounge (I'm stretched out on one of the leather couches right now!) and a large outside patio area with lots of tables. Sharing bottles with others is part of the attraction of storing wine here. Free wifi. Free receipt of wine shipments (some places charge for that service). Good prices on storage, specially walk-ins. Just like home. read more

I have had a locker here for 2 years now. They have a large wharehouse type room filled with different size storage lockers. Mine is cheap since I need a ladder to reach it. They have big rolling ladders so it's really no problem. For the big spenders, there are walk-in lockers. The reason for 5 stars, though, is for the facilities. You can stop by and taste wines with friends - they have a large tasting room as well as an outside patio area. The parties they throw (about once a month)are really fun, too. Lots of people open thier own wines but Legends also provides wine and food free of charge. I picked this place because it was the cheapest place around to store my wine but, as it turns out, Legends has a lot more to offer than your average wine storage place. read more

I am happy to recommend Spectrum Wine for their exceptional service and quality operations. I needed to store just under a 1,000 bottles of wine for 8 months, and then ship my inventory to a Midwest location. I contacted their staff who clearly outlined the process, provided precise cost estimates, and committed to a specific pickup date, which they confirmed the very next day. Within a couple of days the boxes and packing materials were delivered to my home. A few days later they picked up the wine transferred it to their storage facility in Santa Anna, where it will be stored until the wine is shipped via a wine transfer company they work with to ship wines for their clients. I started out with one small locker that grew to 2 small lockers...then a walk in...then two...and so on. Scott and the Jen's have been incredibly accommodating and gracious at every turn. I trust their security (cameras/video surveillance and locked doors) with my expensive wines and I appreciate how accommodating they have been to my specific needs. When I first signed up with them, I had a bunch of wine that I needed to move ASAP, and they were able to get me a 48-case storage spot the same day and Scott helped me unload my 18 cases of wine from my truck quickly since it was hot outside. The flexibility with their convenient hours and also the ability to have my wine orders shipped there and kept safe until I am able to come put them in my locker is a huge bonus. I've been purchasing wine through Spectrum's auction house for about 7 years. Probably longer than my wife wanted me to, but that's another story. With only a few misses, I've had a great experience of purchasing some unique and well-aged wines through the auction house. Although I was able to purchase some incredible wines at very good prices during the very early years that I participated, with the economy improving and, I think, more people participating in the bidding, the prices purchased these last few years have not been the deals as they were in the past. But the selection of the wines is excellent and I continue to purchase from Spectrum to this very day, albeit somewhat less than in years past. I did not rate them 5 stars only for the fact that the buyer's premium is high (probably the norm for an auction house, so this is just my perception not based on any comparison), and the prices have escalated somewhat as noted above.'
