I have had some seriously bad eye doctor experiences before, but I was impressed with the professionalism here. Considering I had avoided optometrists for years, I was relieved that as I asked my one million questions, I never felt rushed. The team even showed patience when teaching me how to insert my contacts (first time ever wearing them). I loved the frames I received, and the personality of the young man that assisted me in selecting them. This review is for the superb customer service we received from Chris N. I went to 3 other optometry places to get my sunglasses adjusted and none of them could adjust them correctly. Chris is extremely knowledgeable with frame adjustments. He took one look at my sunglasses and saw the problem. After several adjustments he was able to make them look level and straight. I would normally get assisted right away, but I sat by the blind spot of the receptionist so they couldn't tell if I got helped or not. Otherwise the experience was good. I don't remember the name of the receptionist but he helped me figure out my USHIP perks. Ended up doing a (free!) eye exam, which was super relaxed thanks to Vicky. Dr. Tran was thorough and patient. Helped update my new prescription so that I wouldn't have to use my old one (that was mis-prescribed a few point-something degrees higher than what I had this time). Very impressed with the service I got on my visit, the staff stayed past close in order to accommodate my very unusual schedule. Dr wu was great. Knowledgeable and kind. The appointment was for my tween-aged son..she knew how to talk with him about his eye condition and made him feel very comfortable. What i appreciated most was she and her staff didn't try to sway us to purchase anything or upgrade our appointment. She simply educated us how we can help prevent my son from having to wear glasses and that made it very easy. ..other places usually try to upgrade our appointment without informing us the procedures would be an upcharge (dilating and other things). The front desk gal was so cute. Cheerful and helpful. It was our fussy time in and they made us feel so comfortable. And on our way out, a young teen client of theirs spoke to us about a special procedure she wears in the evening that has helped dramatically improve her vision and helped slow the change in her prescription. Especially if you are a asian, this is far the best optometry in the orange county that I can say. This Taiwan, China and Hong kong, the eye doctor from UCSD driven optometry equipped with very "high-tech" automated equipments and computers that I'v never seen from other vision related places in my life, my newly measured focal point showed huge improvement from the previous prescription, much clear and bright, all the data came from the various eye measurement machines to the computer. Literally my eyes got measured from more than 4 different machines if i remember correctly and I was not able to believe the improvement. The prescription from this place is the world best and I would say that it is not comparable to any other vision center. I recommend to check that you have eye insurance like VSP because their price plan is very clear and in my opinion, the prices are planned to apply the compensation of the insurance. They have very good selection of the eye glasses frames especially for the asians, who need nose support frames, They have high quality frames which are fashionable and prices are mid to high range. I came here because I highly disliked Costco Optometry when they happened to mess up my prescription TWICE and because their Doctors were just so rude to me. But after coming here, I couldn't believe how well I was treated! First off, the front desk lady YaYa was the sweetest lady ever. She was so polite and adorable even over the phone when I had a question. I arrived an hour and a half early coming right after school and Dr. Tran took me about 45 minutes early from my appointment time, which was a nice thing for him to do. The Doctors' assistant Sue, was also very kind and lead me through the pre-examination very quickly and smoothly. She was about my age so we talked about school and such, very easygoing and nice to talk to. Dr. Tran really educated me on my eyes and guided me to a prescription that would best suite my eye needs. He was so patient with me and spoke to me very clearly with what was going on. Finally, I went outside to pick some glass frames for my new prescription. Danxia helped me and she herself educated me with the different necessities my new eyeglasses needs. At first I was confused and thought she was trying to upsell me but all she was saying was that because my prescription came up to be ___blank___ this is why you have to pay the extra $60. She was so easy to talk to, I am happy she was able to assist me. After calculating the total cost, I asked if I can use my $150 Derek Lam glasses (the ones Costco messed up on) and she approved! I came here for the first time and was treated amazing. They fit me in ten minutes before my appointment time and there wasn't any waiting involved. There were very few people in the store due to covid and they made sure it felt safe. Patrick spent 30 minutes helping me choose frames and he really knew what styles and colors would look good with my complexion and hair color. With COVID-19, I was concerned about bringing my daughter in for an appt, however, I was pleased to see that safety was a top priority. Check in was outdoors to maintain distancing inside, indoor was sanitized, staff wore masks, and staff had a system of wearing different colored scrubs each day to maintain cleanliness and safety. What I appreciated most was the friendliness of staff and Dr Pam's care for my young daughter. She took her time to explain to me, and then very kindly to my daughter in a way that an 8 year old can understand. My daughter has to undertake daily eye training for her lazy eye, but we are confident that she is in good hands with Dr Pam. She was very prompt in emailing me with follow up recommendations and took her time again to answer more questions that I had. We will be happily returning to see Dr Pam for our next appt. read more

This place is a complete JOKE! First and foremost; the "so called" doctor misdiagnosed me with pink eye. A second opinion verified his misdiagnosis! Second; the idiots there billed me up front when I gave them my EyeMed & Cigna insurance cards which would have covered all the costs associated with my visit. Thirdly; I was given a chance to buy some eye wipes for my "so called" pink eye which the doctor recommended using. Since I did NOT have pink eye (conjunctivitis) I tried to return the eye wipes for a refund and was denied. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB! DO NOT GO THERE...... read more

I decided to go here upon a referral from a friend and because they happen to open on Sundays. It took an eternity to make an appointment. I called several times during business hours and was answered each time by a machine asking for my name and number with the promise of a call-back. I left two messages before I got a call back a few days later. Strike one. Despite being turned off by the poor customer service and nonchalance towards potential business, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and was in a hurry to use my vision benefits before the end of the year. At my appointment, the girls in the front office were very nice. The optometrist, Dr. Wu, seemed like a nice guy but he measured my eyesight at -1.75 when I've been at -2.25 for several years. I expressed my concern over this significant discrepancy and he confirmed this after testing my current lenses. Instead of going back and re-doing the exam, he wrote a prescription anyway for the -1.75 and told me to come back if there were any issues with my new lenses. Strike two. I should've known better than to trust someone who looks like a teenager fresh out of high school, let alone optometry school. So I'm stubborn and decide not to heed all these red flags and proceed to order a set of frames and lenses from these guys anyway. I select my frames and the girl won't give me a price, even on just the frames, until the next day when she's run everything through my insurance. Another red flag. She calls me the day after, as promised, and goes through my benefits and tells me it'll cost me $230 out of pocket. Without thinking I give her the okay but after some research, learn that they're trying to rip me off. The average retail price I found for these frames is $215, and some online merchants are selling for as low as $125. My insurance covers the cost of lenses and $120 towards frames so the most I should be paying is $100 + $30 in copays. I call the office 20 minutes later to cancel and the girl, after going back and forth with the office manager/owner, informs me that I can cancel but they will charge a 15% restocking fee ($47.25 based on their riduculous markup to $315). Strike Three. The frames were never in my hands, never left their office, perhaps not even their display case, and they wanted to rob me of $50. Damn them. After much wrangling, I had to threaten to call my bank and inform them that Spectrum Optometry was going to make an unauthorized charge if they did not void the sale first. They finally complied. Please save yourself the trouble and do NOT even think about giving this place your business. Bonafide rip-off artists! read more

(Disregard this message if you're coming in for an eye exam only, think twice if you plan on purchasing anything) Never written a yelp review before, but I feel somewhat obligated to inform future customers of the lack of professionalism, tactical marketing style of the staff at spectrum optometry. The optometrist was fine. This review pertains to how the staff conducted themselves. I will not go into specifics, but will say that the place is run like an eye-health center in the back (where the optometrists do their jobs), and an exclusively money-oriented front desk (manager) and staff. I don't mind the rudeness, but their inability (more importantly, unwillingness) to reason with customers and failure to operate an honest, consumer-centered business are what bothered me. Avoid this place at any cost. The staff made mistake and the GM, "Peter", handle it in the worst way. He intentionally ignore facts, argued and made up stories and blame it on you . In fact, he goes the extra mile to humiliate the customer with irrelevance . First, the staff gives you the wrong quote for what you ordered, perhaps intentionally under the guidance of the GM. Their business practice is to make you pay extra of what you don't need, and this is on top of premium price to maximize their gain at your expense. When customer points out obvious mistake they made which the staff acknowledged, the GM comes and start saying with arrogance "assume we made mistake", " I am an alpha male", "so now you will brag how rich you are...", "are you going to make our staff cry"... etc. really irresponsible, false and funny accusation and truly irrelevant. With the solid fact presented itself well on my behalf, and Peter, the GM, can't just win with childish personal attack and weak argument, even though he pride and enjoy humiliating others, he then strong arm and kick the customer out, all for a few dollars on the mistake they made. if you want to know how low the morality of a human being can descend down to, go and deal with him. Seriously saw the staffs shaking their heads on how their boss handles the situation, but of course, they are all afraid of him. He obviously has been running this place for over a decade with serious issues that other customers have already pointed out before. this business under the current management take pride in providing the lowest customer service. Very poor experience, made a appointment with Dr Wu, but found out later that she is almost never there. She hires these new grads to do the exams. The very young looking optometrist mixed up my two kids prescription and created some confusion. The worst is the up-sale from the manager. She made it sounds like by not getting upgraded lenses and UV protection coating, we were horrible parents. We also found the same frames elsewhere for much less. Last Saturday, my wife and I went to SP shopping for new glasses for my wife. While the assistant was checking our health insurance, we were offered free service to repair the loose string for my wife's old glasses. During the process, the assistant broke the titanium nose pad of the glasses, which now became unwearable. My wife had to leave the shop without glasses, and she could barely see anything 10 feet away. After we called SP several times, on the following Monday, we were informed that the shop owner, Mr. Peter Liu, refused to repair the broken nose pad unless we pay $69. He argued that we had signed an agreement form, which exempts SP from any responsibility for possible breakage during the repair. However, SP failed to inform us any of such policies before we signed their 'agreement form'. Nor did SP tell us any risk or potential damage in the repair process. In fact, when I re-examined their agreement form when I pick up the broken glasses, I found that the majorities of their polities were printed in fonts of size 8, which are extremely difficult to read under normal conditions. We strongly feel that we were unfairly treated on this matter, and we are not responsible for the $69 repair fee. They said they can provide us with discounts if we buy new glasses from them. But their 'discount price' is almost double the price we found in costco, where my wife gets her new glasses today. In fact, even if they offer the same price, I would not shop there since I was so impressed by their terrible service. With such service and high price, I wonder how they can stay in business. When it came time to pay, Nirmal let me know what the cost was - An additional $90 than the price she gave me over the phone. Nirmal and I went back and forth about our conversation over the phone. It went no where. She asked Tracy to come over and all she did was get loud and tell me I was wrong and that I heard wrong. I wore it for a week with difficulty but the 24 years old girl that worked there insisted that i needed time to get use to it. after 2 weeks i gave up and bought another pair elsewhere, but i didnt bring in my old pair to have them check it out, until today i went to the optometrist back in the bay area. Upon examining it my doctor right away pointed out that the curvature of the lens were off. We tried to get our prescription transfer to Costco but they said system is down, the second time they said wait for 2 days and finally when we got the prescription they didn't put cyl info.
