WOW. Zach is literally the best technician and representative of an optometry company I have ever met. He is precise, meticulous, friendly, caring and customer centric. He fixed a very difficult pair of glasses that were in pretty bad shape due me stepping on them in the middle of the night. Because of his care, quality of skill and timeliness, I can now see with glasses again. I am now going to send my kids here for checkups. This is the #1 optometry place in Irvine because of Zach and the friendly, kind and knowledgable receptionist named Karina. We are beyond crushed and disappointed. We have been with Golden Vision and the team including original owner Dr Chang for 15 plus years. We flew to Irvine while living in SF to maintain our relationship. We have spent thousands on exams, expensive ICI Berlin and Makita frames and progressive lenses. Customer care has always amazing. So imagine our surprise this week when, after ordering lenses for 3 pairs of glasses we were told the "lab broke your ICI Berlin frame and cannot make your lenses unless you buy a new frame". While company rep Zac was helpful and zealous in trying to persuade Golden Vision's corp owners to own the mistake and make good the replacement price of a new frame, the company refused. They demanded we pay with oir frame insurance (which of course meant we coudnt use the insurance for its intended purpose --buying new frames!) AND pay out of pocket $300. So a total of $550 to pay for their breakage. We agreed to use our insurance but would not pay an extra $300 for the premium ICI Berlin frames they broke (btw lenses were $400) Bottom line after four calls in which rhey actually increased our out of pocket we finally explained that no, we would not pay for their breakage and unless they agreed to make good, we would pull $900 in sales for 3 sets of lenses and all future business. They said ok. Sorry to see you go. So a really great business built around customer care let $900 walk rather than make good on their problem. Recap: $550 frames broken by GV lab. We agree to use our $250 insurance toward replacement. GV then asks us to pay the remaining $300. They would do NOTHING to make good AND let $900 in sales go to avoid paying essentially half of the repair cost. My math is rusty but they spent $900 to save $300 AND lost a 15 year customer with a future lifetime value in exams, lenses and frames of maybe another $10k! Corporate owners are ruining a wonderful business and punishing both the wonderful GV team and their long time customers. Sad. Don Moss. read more

Consumer Beware! Now I don't typically leave bad reviews unless they're warranted or I can help the community... I have to make sure that they don't rip off other consumers. I came here because my wife went to the golden vision in San Gabriel and said that she was treated well and had a good experience. Since we live in south OC now we decided to come here for my annual checkup. We booked an appointment online and when we got there they didn't have a record of our appointment... ok we were fine with leaving and rescheduling but they said that they could fit me in 30 min and I agreed. Bad idea, after waiting over an hour I was called back and everything seemed to be moving along through the pre exam tests. After those were finished I was moved to the doctors office where the doctor came into the room everything seemed like it was getting back on track until she was called out and didn't come back for another 10-15 minutes and then finally finished the exam. After the exam, we sat to get glasses and this year I knew I wanted sunglasses. The lady whom we sat with acted like she was trying to sling spectacles at a night market instead of an optometrist which felt really odd. Then after my insurance coving part of the frames I had to pay out of pocket but unbeknownst to me I was only supposed to pay a percentage of the difference, not the whole thing - not to mention that they are up selling the cost of the frames to more than double what they are worth at a retail store (which I can understand if they are charging the insurance, but to charge the excess to your customer to make more on top is a bad practice that should be called out). So I pay the difference and head on my way saying that they will call me when the sunglasses are in after my insurance clears. Two weeks later and I have not heard back from the office so I call asking if the sunglasses had arrived. They put me on hold to see and when they come back they said it's here and I can pick it up. When I pick it up I bring up that they overcharged me and didn't apply my insurance right. After looking it up they agreed and issued a refund. Then they hand me my glasses and I realize that there's smudges on the lens and so I walk over to the case and it appears that they had just taken them out and given me the ones from the case! Now I wouldn't mind that necessarily but they had told me during my appointment that I had to wait for my glasses to come for my insurance to clear and for them to order the glasses. This establishment should get 2 stars instead of 1 is because the Dr. Mak seemed like she cares for her patients but then I can't seem to think how much they may have cheated people out of their money if they aren't aware of their benefits. My experience probably won't occur often as many will opt to get prescription lens, but I hope that I can help others be aware of how this practice seems to operate. TLDR: If you still dare to come to this establishment, come prepared knowing your insurance benefits (don't rely on them reading your full benefits and giving you what you pay your insurance for). read more

Highly responsive and very helpful. Mimi and the Golden Vision Team were very kind and accommodating when I needed to be seen urgently.

They have a very covid-friendly procedures to come in. No walk-in's, you must have an appointment. They check your temperature at the door and make you wash your hands with soap upon entering. Everyone is required to wear a mask and I actually see people following this. My grip would be it took over one month to receive my sunglasses, which I actually did not know I was paying to get it with a slight prescription. Since it has only been two days since I received it, I have not had much time to wear my glasses, but definitely did not knowing I was paying to get them with the prescription of 0.25. Since I got Lasix done 6.5 years ago, my eyesight has been fine but I have a slight stigmatism. I don't need the prescription at all times. I think it was partially I did not understand when all the costs were being added up. Most likely I will not be buying anything else from this location. read more

This was my second year coming to GVO for my annual eye exam, and I absolutely plan to come to them for all my future optometry needs. Dr. Fan is excellent; she's so kind and makes you feel comfortable and describes what's happening as she does it. The office staff are also really great and helpful. Last year I was due for frames and they didn't pressure me at ALL to purchase them there and offered me my prescription before I even asked, which hasn't been my experience at other places. They were also helpful in describing what my insurance covered and are very upfront about pricing. I highly recommend this location. read more

Do not recommend this place at all. I had my eyes examined by a doctor and she gave me a prescription. I made my glasses but I thought somehow my vision was still blurry. I wanted to recheck my vision and check my glasses as well, so within 2 weeks of my first visit I called in to make an appointment with the doctor. I was at my work when I called in to book my appointment, lady on call said the doctor do not work on Thursday and Friday evening, So I book the appointment for same day at 11:00 am, I even ask the receptionist, would it take more than 1 hour to meet the doctor as I was taking break from work, she said no 1 hour is sufficient.  When I reached there, the boy checked my glasses, went to the doctor's office twice to convey my message to the doctor. And said, your glasses look good. I requested that I make an appointment to see the doctor, can I meet her?  Here comes the protocol, They said, it is our protocol that we first check if everything is good, and if not then only you can meet the doctor.  No one mentioned these "Protocols" to me on call when I was booking an appointment with a doctor. Very disappointed, Unprofessional. Even the Doctor knew that there is a person outside who is willing to consult with her, but it did not bother to her to come outside for a minute. This is totally the receptionist fault, to not mentioning this protocol when I was booking an appointment. Writing this review, so that if someone is booking the appointment they would know this "Protocol" in advance and would not leave their job to waste the time. Excellent clinical experience, mixed front office experience. Happy overall. I've been coming here for years and seen Dr. Fan as well as more recently the newer Dr. Pham after my insurance changed temporarily to Medi-Cal. My visits to the providers have been excellent. I've never felt rushed through my exams and they took their time answering my questions in as much detail as I wanted. Both doctors have been forthright with me about risks, benefits, and alternatives of various options. The opticians up front have been skilled and accommodating, no complaints. Most recently, while between insurance on Cal-Optima I was told after an exam that while they accepted Medi-Cal, they weren't carrying any eyeglasses that it covered, and that it would be about 4 weeks before they were available. That was disappointing to hear, but I am glad that the front office staff was honest with me this time and gave me a printed prescription to take home with no hassle. But, in years past when I was a poor student, I felt aggressive pressure from the sales associates to upsell me on more expensive frames and lenses even though I repeatedly asked for a basic pair of glasses that my insurance would cover, and ended up paying a lot out of pocket. Note: like many offices they will offer you digital retinal imaging for which is not covered by most insurance. This is a fully optional alternative to pupil dilation, which is normally covered as part of an eye health exam. It's up to the patient whether to pay ($25) for the convenience of avoiding dilation. read more

Love them!! My insurance changed in 2019 so I've only been going here for 2 years but I LOVE IT. I was in a pinch where I was running out of contacts before a big road trip full of hiking and camping and cliff diving so they rush ordered me a week supply and saved me!!! You don't get that from big box chain optometrists....I'd like to say that's the only time I've been in a pinch and they've helped me, but it's not! I now have lasik and do all my post op care with them and they're still fantastic! They were SO helpful as I prepared for lasik and help me understand my insurance and make choices best for me. And everyone is genuinely so kind. In a nutshell: if they can help you, they'll do everything in their power to help you. And they'll smile while they do it!!! Also, their Covid rules make me feel very comfortable. Sanitize each room before you sit down. Wash your hands first thing. Only a couple patients in at the same time and never in the same area. read more

Three weeks later I'm there to see what's going on and - surprise, surprise - my glasses are sitting there for last 14 days and no one even bothered to give me a call. I went in two days in a row, and received completely different services. The first time, it was 5 star service, the staff are super friendly, courteous. They asked everyone to wash hands upon entering the store, cleaned equipments in between customers, just a wonderful experience. The second day, it felt like a completely different store. I went in for my appointment earlier arriving the parking lot at 10:18am, did the parking lot check in but it didn't accept my check in. I walked in at 10:20am. I was told to sit down to wait for my appointment time by a receptionist. Until 10:40am, she gave me a form to fill out. I submitted this filled out form on line the night before. She told me it's not the same form because she couldn't locate it in the computer. I suspect the doctor is not arrived yet. My time is wasted. The receptionist said it's fine without any apology when I stood up prepare to leave. Practically no service at all. Are their doctor working full time? This is no reason to treat customer like this. It appears they are very thorough in preparing the customer with their message and on line email etc., but it's a fake front that is not working because no one follow through in their office! read more

I have been going to Golden Vision Opromtiery for the past 4 or 5 years, I have to say there is a reason for me keep coming back. I usually see Dr. Fan, but other optometrists there are pretty nice as well. From Golden Vision Optometry, I purchased my night hard contacts lens, morning hard contacts, and daily disposable contact lenses as well. I have checked the price for the daily Acuvue soft contact lenses for astigmatism at Costo and I realized that Golden offers a competitive price with rebate and discount for the time I have purchased them. I have not purchased eye glasses for this place so I cannot comment on the quality and the pricing of their glasses. For anyone who is interested in checking out this place, I would strongly strongly recommend them to check your insurance first to see how much it would cost for an eye examination. With my decent eye care insurance, I still had to pay for $75 for an eye exam. However, the exam was pretty comprehensive. Be sure to ask them the eye exam you receive since there are a lot of different ones. read more

The optometrist only did a routine for about five minutes to give me the prescription and she did nothing special even though my eyes are not in a healthy condition (extremely dry eyes with glaucoma) so I can't comment on her knowledge. The staff though, looked like pushy sales persons on commission. They only wanted to sell me some glasses and get the money. I felt like I stepped into a car dealership and not a healthcare facility! I came here because I needed to get a refill of my contact lenses and www.800contacts.com would not refill my contacts anymore due to expiration of my prescription. Golden Vision Optometry accomodated me as I was a walk-in with no appointment in the books, and they were going to close in less than 45 minutes....NICE! Of course, after the insurance check, filling out the necessary paperwork and the usual pre-tests of my eyes, I met Dr. Fan, who is a very personable eye doctor that made me feel very comfortable. She was very talkative and pleasant to talk to even though they were closing soon. I could hear the evening cleaning and vacuum running outside the examination room, but in my opinion, they should wait for the patients to leave the establishment before they start cleaning. After my examination, the person who helped me get in without an appointment said something curious to me. To this day, I question what he said. He was fitting me with my NEW contact lenses and I told him that I usually buy my contacts from the dot coms and he highly discouraged that I buy from there. He stated that his establishment sells only first tier contact lenses and the dot coms usually sell second tier lenses. First tier lenses are of the highest quality and the second tier contacts go to the dot coms and Costco of the world. He said if you want quality and first tier lenses....I should always buy from them. Honestly....sounds like HOG WASH to me. I came recently for an eye exam, and to pick out new glasses. I'll admit, it has been a few years since I went to the eye doctor because I'm just generally not a huge fan of doctors. However, this place has completely changed my opinions. Doctor Fan was beyond nice to us. We came towards the end of the day, and she had this amazing energy that just perked us right up. She was super nice. My partner was getting contacts, and she helped him with the contacts super easily. For me, I get nervous with eye drops, but she was able to give me eye drops for part of the exam without a hitch. She also noticed that i had poliosis and made me feel more confident about it, telling me that it gives me character. The staff was also very helpful, in helping me pick out a new pair of frames. At the end of the day, i felt very confident with my new glasses, and I will definitely be coming back here for years to come. read more

The staff here is super friendly and very helpful. The doctors are very flexible and available for later appointments during weekdays and even weekend appointments, which helps us since we both work full time. They accept both of our insurances which is just another plus! They have a decent selection of frames and offer a variety of options for lenses. They do what they can to get your new glasses in as soon as they can. I thought mine were crooked but it's my ears not being even that affect the angle. Haven't had the best experience the last two years - we've been patients/customers a long time and it feels like the care that goes into taking care of the patients stops once you leave the exam rooms. The doctors are all still amazing and super friendly! Problem is when you're spending $500+ after insurance and they treat you like you aren't doing the right thing by not getting BOTH contacts and glasses... well, I NEED one or the other, and there doesn't seem to be any discounts on frames or contacts like there used to be. This review is for the glasses/frame department only. Came here based on yelp reviews to find the perfect frame. I had been to 2 previous stores before this but my search continued to this location. For starters when I walked in there were already 2 other unhappy customers complaining..warning sign? Why I'm specifically writing a bad review is because for the first time in my ENTIRE LIFE I felt like someone assumed I was going to steal something! LOL So I'm looking around the store with my Mother and I had maybe 3 reading frames that I'm holding. So a salesperson comes to help us and I see this other female Asian co-worker give her this weird eyebrow raise and hand her a open carrying basket. The lady asks me to place the frames in the basket..at first I assumed it was because they wanted to have the frames treated with care. Um nope! So as I'm walking around the store with the salesperson and my Mother literally every pair of frames I pick-up (in front of both of them) the salesperson asks me to place the frames in the basket each time. Picture this, I pick up a pair ..try it on..and as we're walking she says has me place the glasses in the basket (that she was holding) this happened like 4 TIMES. In lamens terms, she did not want me holding onto a frame even though we were all walking together. Its something a person might look past, but I noticed and found it rude! It may be a new rule they are trying to implement but it made me feel really uncomfortable! And to be honest this place overall just looked dark, gloomy, and no one seemed happy or friendly that's for sure. I mean if your going to spend a few bills on some frames you want to be perfect..don't you wear it in different lighting? Try it on a few times? Not here apparently you can't hold on to it for more than a second. My Mom and I speak a second language and she even told me she felt with the eyebrow raise and not letting me hold onto a single frame was implying something. It was really confusing to me as I've visited many frame stores each year and I always walk around with frames and never had a problem. In fact, not even once in life has this occurred to me. And not to mention their selection was not even that great! I wanted some specific brands that they posted both in store and on their website and when I got there I was informed they didn't have a single pair of many brands. Ummm then why is there a sign in your store saying you do? Anyway, no joke I saw a pair I liked. It was def. overpriced and specifically were Frankie somethings (I wasn't familiar with the brand which I didn't like) they were about $300 and in my opinion knockoffs for the brand I really wanted which were Silhouette's. For those wondering Sihouette's appear like your wearing nothing, while popularity is more with ostentatious frames. Anyway, I was literally so down to get it. I told her I needed 5 minutes and I literally thought hard about if I wanted to give this establishment my business. After 5 min., I decided no they really didn't deserve it. I walked out feeling kind of bummed thinking I'd still have to look for frames. And then the most ironic thing happened, randomly a week later I went into a frame store at the mall and my Silhouette's that I really wanted were randomly 50%!
