This review is for the glasses/frame department only. Came here based on yelp reviews to find the perfect frame. I had been to 2 previous stores before this but my search continued to this location. For starters when I walked in there were already 2 other unhappy customers complaining..warning sign? Why I'm specifically writing a bad review is because for the first time in my ENTIRE LIFE I felt like someone assumed I was going to steal something! LOL So I'm looking around the store with my Mother and I had maybe 3 reading frames that I'm holding. So a salesperson comes to help us and I see this other female Asian co-worker give her this weird eyebrow raise and hand her a open carrying basket. The lady asks me to place the frames in the basket..at first I assumed it was because they wanted to have the frames treated with care. Um nope! So as I'm walking around the store with the salesperson and my Mother literally every pair of frames I pick-up (in front of both of them) the salesperson asks me to place the frames in the basket each time. Picture this, I pick up a pair ..try it on..and as we're walking she says has me place the glasses in the basket (that she was holding) this happened like 4 TIMES. In lamens terms, she did not want me holding onto a frame even though we were all walking together. Its something a person might look past, but I noticed and found it rude! It may be a new rule they are trying to implement but it made me feel really uncomfortable! And to be honest this place overall just looked dark, gloomy, and no one seemed happy or friendly that's for sure. I mean if your going to spend a few bills on some frames you want to be perfect..don't you wear it in different lighting? Try it on a few times? Not here apparently you can't hold on to it for more than a second. My Mom and I speak a second language and she even told me she felt with the eyebrow raise and not letting me hold onto a single frame was implying something. It was really confusing to me as I've visited many frame stores each year and I always walk around with frames and never had a problem. In fact, not even once in life has this occurred to me. And not to mention their selection was not even that great! I wanted some specific brands that they posted both in store and on their website and when I got there I was informed they didn't have a single pair of many brands. Ummm then why is there a sign in your store saying you do? Anyway, no joke I saw a pair I liked. It was def. overpriced and specifically were Frankie somethings (I wasn't familiar with the brand which I didn't like) they were about $300 and in my opinion knockoffs for the brand I really wanted which were Silhouette's. For those wondering Sihouette's appear like your wearing nothing, while popularity is more with ostentatious frames. Anyway, I was literally so down to get it. I told her I needed 5 minutes and I literally thought hard about if I wanted to give this establishment my business. After 5 min., I decided no they really didn't deserve it. I walked out feeling kind of bummed thinking I'd still have to look for frames. And then the most ironic thing happened, randomly a week later I went into a frame store at the mall and my Silhouette's that I really wanted were randomly 50%! I wish Dr. Fan did all of the medicines! She's literally the best doctor I've ever had. Smart, friendly, personable, the works! Even though I only see her once a year, she remembers me and my family and all of the little details that make the visit great. Oh, and she's top notch at her job. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the overall operation is extremely efficient and professional. And - hopefully I don't jinx them by saying this, but - they're kicking Covid's butt! Mimi was so nice and accommodating and allowed me to look at so many glasses until I found just the right ones for me. Her attitude was very nice and comforting as well. Even though she was wearing her mask I could tell she was smiling. The store was so clean and bright it was very nice to shop there. Next time I need glasses I will definitely be seeing Mimi again. I came here for about 20 years or more because I like Dr Chang. All the doctors are excellent. However, over the years, the sales staff have become pushy sales sharks trying to upsell you on everything. I travel all the way from Los Angeles every year to get my eye exam but I don't think I will return here again. On my last visit, I asked the sales person for help finding glasses that were within the price range of insurance coverage which is $175. She kept ignoring me and recommending glasses that cost over $500. She would pretend like she didn't hear me and kept trying to distract me from the price by telling me how great those glasses were and how good they looked on me. Again, I had to keep repeating that I want something in the range of $175 and again she would point in the general direction of the glasses but would try to sell me something ridiculously expensive and then her response was that they have nothing that costs $175. Ok, how about something close to $175? She would tell me how the ones in that price range don't have any warranty (scare tactic). When I finally picked my frames and sat down to choose my lenses, the only option she showed me was that my lenses were going to cost me $345. Can you believe that? $345 just for lenses! When I told all my friends about this later, people were astounded that lenses would cost that much. Friends who have had much better experience at other eye glasses stores told me it didn't cost them much at all and they didn't even have insurance coverage. She was trying to make me believe that my only viable option was $345. She claimed that the regular lenses that were covered by insurance only allows you a narrow range of view and she guarantees I am going to have a headache and feel nauseous with those the insurance covered. I reluctantly went with what she recommended and walked out of there paying over $400 for glasses I didn't even really want. So I returned back about 30 minutes later and asked to cancel my glasses order. She told me that they can't undo the insurance charges so they can't cancel it. They let me change the lens prescription to the insurance covered lens and she grimaced and told me that I'm going to get a headache guaranteed. I saved myself $300 after I changed my lens option. I have optometrist friends that I later asked about this and and they said the lens thing is a myth and there is no big difference. Also, it was a Saturday late afternoon so the transactions haven't really gone through so they could have given me a cancellation on my order but they decided not to. I was told that this eye glass industry is dirty and there's a lot of upselling they try to do. So brace yourself for a used car salesman experience. Good for you Golden Vision Optometry for making that sale. But guess what? You've lost a loyal customer that has been returning for many years. That's not smart business. I will be finding a new eye doctor from now on and find a place to buy from that is honest and actually cares about how to best fit my needs in my budget as well as my vision needs and that will not resort to scare tactics. I sometimes run into Dr Chang when out shopping or at events. I also know a good friend of hers who recommended her to me. I will be sure to tell her about my experience as well. read more

My family and I come to see Dr. Jennie Fan and she has the sweetest bedside manner. My two boys adore her and she makes the exam fun for them. We found out my eldest has astigmatism and require reading glasses for school. He picked out blue glasses within 1 minute and he says he can see very clearly in them. He also keeps them on which shows that they fit well and are comfortable. She is extremely knowledgeable and we trust her. We highly recommend Dr. Fan! read more

I had an medical emergency and my right eye was blurry! I thought I was going blind.. turned out it was a vein occlusion? My primary family doctor said I couldn't see a ophthalmology on the weekend and told me to try a optometry. I called Golden Vision and they squeezed me in! The doctor here examined me and her diagnosis was the same as the ophthalmology (after I finally got an appt after 1 week of waiting). They gave me a peace of mind and thank god they are open every day. (My ophthalmology was only open Mon-Thur...damn u...what if I was going blind on the weekend :-/ ) Insurance info: This was confusing.. I have VSP (vision) and Monarch (medical). I called my medical 1-800-customer service and they told me to call VSP. VSP emailed me a list of optometry around me, when I showed up at the store, Golden Vision told me this goes under my Medical since it's an emergency. I saw the owner of this optometry on 04/2018 for fitment of rigid gas permeable contacts. The contacts prescribed did not work - the lenses caused pain and visual problems. I sought the expertise of another optometrist in a different office who specialized in this type of contact lens fitment and was properly fitted. I sought a refund of $504.00 but was denied by Golden Vision - they stated I signed an agreement that service fees are not refundable (the fine print in the patient information/consent form). The contacts were returned back to Golden Vision Optometry on 06/01/18. I did not receive the $300.00 for the returned contacts as I was seeking for a refund of the entire amount. The original contract I had was for proper fitment of RGP lens and that was NOT done - I had inquired with her several times prior to 04/2018 if she had the expertise to do this type of fitment and was told yes. Later, this optometrist admitted to me that she does not do this type of RGP fitting very often. This optometrist didn't have the expertise to do this type of work as verified through Email communications that this one and only prescription for me was the best she could do. No other trials, adjustments, fitments. Really?!! One prescription and that was it!!! I have successful results with another optometrist and am wearing the RGP lenses with complete comfort as well as correct visual acuity. So this was not a case of my physical condition in my eyes which prevented me from wearing RPG lenses but was due to the lack of skills of this optometrist. To this day, the $300.00 is still not refunded by Golden Vision Optometry and this merchant refuse to respond to my inquiries. This is hardly ethical for a business much less someone who labels themselves as a medical professional. This issue has been disputed on my credit card and due to an error made by the credit card company, this optometry stated that they had won this case. A credit card company making a mistake hardly qualifies as winning. This optometrist has nothing to prove the prescription was correct as I had to have another optometrist correct the mistake. And this optometrist has the audacity to claim that they won the case?!! For everyone reading this review, be advised that this is a serious matter as one's vision is not to be gambled with. No one should chance their vision at this office much less their children nor their family members. This is just another example of unethical practice at a more serious level than other negative reviews from other patients. In addition, this is incompetence - I speak from personal experience. Another point, by California state law, optometrists have to provide a written prescription for your contacts so you may purchase them elsewhere - you do not need to buy them at the optometrist's office where the prescription was written (Search the California Board of Optometry). This is state law and if anyone tells you differently, demand the prescription. There is no reason to buy regular glasses nor contacts from this optometry as they will rip you off. Take your prescription and check elsewhere - you will be surprised at the markup of this office. Lastly - for everyone seeking vision correction through contacts, seek out a professional that specializes in Rigid Gas Permeable contacts as proper fitment will actually make them MORE comfortable than soft contact lens. Having worn both types, I know the difference. The reason why most optometrist want to sell you soft contacts is their replacement schedule is much more frequent and they can make more money from you not to mention that many don't have the skills to do RGP lens fitment properly. If you want to wear the daily disposable lenses, so much the better for the optometrist - you can see the green dollar signs light up in their eyes. In addition, soft contacts are easier to fit than RGP lenses. You almost have to be blind as an optometrist not to do this correctly for soft lenses. Bottom line - do not go to this optometry for anything related to vision. Judging from other negative reviews from patients, this office should be avoided. They also have state of the art technology, as they always are up to date with the latest equipment. All of the staff are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly, and even on days that there are many customers, they are always fast and efficient in getting the job done. The place is spacious and is very clean. It's overall a comfortable experience whenever I go to golden vision. I have been wearing ortho-k for the past 5 years and my vision has not gotten worse. Dr. Chang is very good at caring for me. The staff also always take care of my concerns. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a new long-term optometrist! I really loved my visit at Golden Vision Optometry! I have been seen by all of the doctors here since I was 5 years old and now I'm 22! It's great being able to come back every year to get my eyes checked by such genuine people! They always remember me, even the small details like where I go to school or what my major is. Every year they help me pick out a new set of frames and the sales staff is super helpful! And even after some time if I decide that I like my old frames they are acceptive of that and still show me the same respect! You don't get that at other offices. The place is really clean and nice and although sometimes crowded they seem to always be on top of things and do their best to please everyone in the room. One thing that I also really appreciate is the time that the doctors spend with me. Last week I went to my dentist office and not only was she with me for only 5 min but she didn't even tell me if I had any cavities.... these doctors here are so comprehensive I barley have any questions to ask! I love doctors here but not the front desk. The lady (I think her name is Nancy) would keep pushing customers to buy things. The first time I did, bought a 2-year worth of contact lenses since J&J had a rebate promotion at that time. The 2nd time I refused to buy anything 'caz I didn't need any and my purpose was only to do the annual exam. Then the lady wouldn't help to clean and adjust my glasses after my doctor's visit, saying they don't have people to help and I have to wait for at least 2 hours until after lunch break. This is ridiculous, and too bad I have to go somewhere else for my eye exams now. read more

Update: We're rolling on 10 years as a patient of Golden Vision, up from 8. I am still extremely happy, and have since gotten Lasik. I chose Golden Vision for my pre-post care because I love the Dr.s here so much. Dr. Fan gave me a big hug after my Lasik and was so happy to hear everything went ok. Then, they helped me get cosmetic lenses put in my old glasses so I could still wear them cosmetically :) (btw, Lenscrafters quoted me $170-240 for PLASTIC lenses. Golden Vision did it the same day for $99). A+, I still love this place. The front staff is always warm and greets me by name (shout out to Henry). --- Old Review --- I have been going to Golden Vision Optometry for about 8 years now. Dr. Jennie Fan is the best eye doctor around. She's sweet, caring, and most importantly, HONEST. All of the staff are super helpful and nice as well. They have a great supply of designer frames, and some cheaper options for those without insurance (99 dollar lens and frames w/ polycarbonate). I'm finally leaving a review because my visit tonight was worth a great review. **Dr. Angela Tsay was so patient and so great throughout the exam. I brought my 7 month old daughter with me since I just picked her up from daycare. She was super tired and super fussy and just would not settle down. Even with a crying baby in the room, she would take the time to explain things thoroughly when I had questions and never once did she try and rush things. **Henry, as always, was a delight, and offered great suggestions with my insurance benefits and how to get the most out of it. Very knowledgeable and good at what he does. He's like the Wikipedia of insurance benefits and fun facts. He is definitely a fun person to talk to. I've been looking for an eye doctor for a while now! I came across Golden Vision Optometry and decided to schedule an appointment. Although, Saturday's are usually busy they had appointments available. When, I walked in the wait time wasn't long at all. They were super fast and took me in right away. Dr. Yu was really nice and understanding! She did a through check of my eyes, and gave me a great walk through for a Lasik consultation. I totally recommend the office! Horrible experience. Will not be going back here. A staff member promised my glasses would be ready to pick up in a week, but when I returned to pick up my glasses, I was told they weren't ready. The same staff member told me to come back again the following week so I wasted my time and gas driving all the way home from school. When I came back the following week, there were problems with the lenses. Another staff member suggested I "try the lenses out" and come back again if I still didn't like them. I've avoid this place as much as I can. This place cost a lot-- for everything from frames, services, contacts. They really nickle and dime you from the time you get into the shop until the time you leave. The doctor is pretty nice there, but the workers there are really annoying. Usually, shops will call once in a while to get reminders for check ups, the workers here call every day, sometimes twice a day for a week. That happened to me. I was shocked at how much time they have sitting at the office -- calling me non stop... kinda scary. Like I said, everything here is expensive--would not recommend coming here when you can go to Costco or Walmart for the SAME check up for a MUCH better price. PROMISE. read more

The reason why I chose Golden Vision is because I didnt want to look like Poindexter with my first pair of glasses. This is the place that nicely broke the news to me that my eyes are not what they were. I must say they were pretty cool about the whole choosing the glasses experience. They gave me the Gucci, Prada and Hugo Boss options to make my lack of vision a fashion statement. The doctors at this location pay attention to detail and are very caring. I am a regular here, and they have been very helpful to me. I have bought 2 pairs of glasses and my insurance covers most of the costs. If you are looking for some custom frames, they are going to be on the pricey end. I guess its better then going to Costco and coming out looking like grandma. read more

This business would get a 0 if I had that option. I should of did my research and read some yelp reviews before coming here. Let me just start off by saying the staff is very friendly and nice. However, I was lied to and scammed for my money. I had my eye exam and ended up getting a pair of glasses. I have insurance and I stated that and provided them my insurance card. The sales woman who was helping me recommended all these additional add ons to my glasses and I repeatedly told her, I want basic glasses that my insurance covers, I will cover the difference of the frames that I select if over my insurance allowance. She said ok and asked me if I needed the glasses right away and I told her no. The amount I paid was outrageous! Over $500 which is way too much for someone who has insurance! I felt scammed and called my insurance right away. After my insurance did their investigation, comes to find out I was charged for add ons that I did not agree to and charged as a RUSH order after I told the sales woman I did not need them right away. Golden Vision has a No Refund Policy but after I spoke to my insurance, Golden Vision surely did refund me. read more

I've been coming here for my ortho-k lenses for the past 4 years and I've been very happy with the doctors. They are all so nice and take the time to talk to you during the exam so you don't focus on the fact that you're being poked and prodded at in your eyes. They've always been very helpful so big thanks to the amazing doctors. The front staff has been great and helpful as well (esp Karina and Henry). They always take the time to explain all the costs and insurance and shenanigans to me. The only thing I would have to say is that the wait times can be crazy bananas if you're not on time to your appointment. Last time I went, I was a few minutes early (huge shocker) and was helped immediately. The previous times however, I probably went in like 5 minutes late (maybe later sometimes hehe ;)) and would always be waiting and waiting and waiting. So be on time to your appointments! I'm sure it helps them out a lot and it'll save you from waiting extra. read more
