I should've written this review LONG ago! My friend asked her optometrist for a referral in my area & this was probably the best referral of any kind ever! I've been going to Dr. Matt Wang for probably over a decade now & can only say wonderful things!!! As a person, he's a great listener, compassionate, caring, generous with integrity. Professionally, he seems to have the latest, very knowledgeable & communicates well at patient level, has always fit my lenses or glasses well. I am SOOO GRATEFUL!!! Tho i wish it were a bit closer, it is so worthwhile. I saw Dr. Steven Wang once on emergency & he was great too! I haven't seemed to develop a relationship with the office as I'm only there annually & see different people, but they've all seemed nice. read more

I always receive one of the most thorough eye exams ever when I come here. Dr. Wang is highly knowledgeable, yet easygoing. They offer neurolens / prism lenses here. Honestly, I got so upset at one of the front desk girls, I almost didn't want to come back. The girl who doesn't pronounce English well..she has a terrible attitude, cuts you off, and once she made a mistake on my invoice, and didn't even double-check, just cut me off and argued with me. KATHERINE has EXCELLENT customer service. Katherine made it right. I also work in customer service, so I know the value of patience, a friendly tone of voice, and listening more than talking over people. I guess I will still come back because the doctor is good and he's close to me. But wow, the attitude from that other girl ... she doesn't fit the friendly personality of everyone who works there. read more

I made an appointment for lasik consult thinking they performed the surgery here. To my surprise, they don't. But, Dr. Steve should!! He has high tech equipment to properly screen for Keratoconus. He is super knowledgeable in Keratoconus. He's professional, funny, and thorough. Overall, my case was a little more complicated than a lasik procedure and he took the time to reassure me of my options. He made sure I was comfortable with my decision. In my defense of how I landed in his office accidentally thinking he performed surgeries... it was his bio, credentials, and involvement in the foundation of Keratoconus. I was convinced to make an appointment with Dr. Steve and I was not disappointed. (Just a little disappointed he doesn't do PRK (type of lasik).) read more

Doctor is good but there is a female with a tat on her wrist working contacts and glasses who everyone seems to defer to and she is extremely rude and condescending. My advice is don't bother with this place.. so many other good options around here. Hung up on me after talking over me for 5 minutes when I wanted to return the contacts for the receipt stating something other than what was verbally communicated. What's worse is I heard someone laughing in the background as if it's a joke to waste someone's time. I feel bad for the doctor that I have to leave a review like this because he was polite and thorough. I see other similar comments.. clearly i'm not the only one sharing this sentiment. First visit to this clinic and I would definitely recommend Dr. Wang and his amazing staff to all my friends and family. I was early and brought straight into my appointment. The tech was so friendly, the exam was thorough and you could tell she knew her stuff! The doctor took the time to explain all the tests and my results very clearly. My vision isn't the greatest, so looking for an Optometrist who fulfills what I need is something I'm always looking for. I'm usually really picky about where I get my glasses and contacts, but this office is exactly what I was looking for. Teresa and Kat helped me choose my frames from the excellent selection they have in store. They also help you order frames online if you're looking for something different as that is what they did during my previous visit. Teresa was extremely efficient and professional when conducting the pre-testing and check out at the end of my appointment. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, especially when I have questions and concerns. I had a great experience with Dr. Wang and his staff. I just relocated to the area from Chicago and having to find new Doctors can be quite a hassle. Although, it took a moment for Danielle the frontdesk staff to verify a couple details with my insurance. She eventually got back to me and she was really great, had a great attitude and scheduled me for the next day. I really needed to see a Doctor as my contacts had ran out and my eyes had been rather itchy. Well, it turns out that I have minor allergies. Dr. Wang was great about the whole check-up and asking about my eyes and health history. I am reviewing this business based on my first and second trip to their office. My first trip was last week for an eye exam post Lasik and post PRK. I had not seen an optometrist in about three years. To be quite honest, after multiple surgeries, I was just sick and tired of annoying eyedrops and puff tests and slow exams. I actually found this business and medical facility on yelp and I am very glad that I did. I will walk you through my experience and list the pros and cons at the end. I called for an appointment and had to cancel it two days later. I rescheduled it with ease and no attitude whatsoever from the receptionist on the phone. For those of you wondering why I would even note this, I have seen that happen so many times that I was a bit surprised at how sweet and nice they were about it. Particularly as a new patient with no established relationship. I walked in and was immediately and warmly greeted by the receptionist who handed me an iPad to complete my medical profile. I finished it in about one minute and handed it back to her. She came and put eyedrops in my eyes for dilation (someone noted that this is not normal for the physician to not do this - In my experience, it's very normal). The receptionist told me that I would be called back soon. I thought "I've heard that before". Little did I know it would be about three minutes. As I sat down to continue working and noticed I had only one bar on my cell phone, a lady walked in with about 17 children. Okay maybe it was about five, but it sounded like 17. I was already late, cranky, I just wanted to get this over with. I made eye contact with a tech who was sitting at the lens and eyeglass station who gave me an understanding nod in return. I think at this point I yelled over the screaming children "do you have a Wi-Fi password?" She immediately yelled it back and laughed. I cannot tell you how appreciative I was for this password. LOL (on my second visit I noticed there is actually a sign in the lobby area with a password so now I feel like a dumbass) I go into the first room with all of the electronic gadgets measuring peripheral vision, mapping out your eye and so on. The tech who was responsible for my exam prep that day was training another person. Often this can be a cluster. It was not here. She was attentive and did not forget that she had a patient in addition to a trainee. Two thumbs up. She told me to go into the exam room and take a seat and the doctor would be with me soon. She brought me some water and I went back to work. I was thinking this was almost too good to be true. (By the way, the dilation drops are not the old-school yellow kind that make your eyes feel superheavy. I didn't notice anything). Before I had time to respond to the next email, Dr. Wang was already in the room, super friendly, very upbeat, and immediately instilled confidence. I appreciate a young looking energetic doctor who has a tech savvy business, knows what patients want, and is caring and makes you feel secure. Matt is all of these things and more. After a short but thorough exam, he gave me my prescription, asked if I had any questions, and I headed back out to the lens area. (I noticed someone else commented about thoroughness. It is true that Matt is quick. However, when he noticed a potential problem, he spent so much time on it that it actually made me nervous and I inquired about it. He is anything but not thorough) He also took his time to answer all of my questions and I did not feel rushed at all. I brought in my own glasses (frames) to have the lenses changed out with prescription lenses. I was concerned about the selection at any optometrists office and the up charge, so I purchased some at an optical store that has really good designer specs. I actually would have been in good hands with their selection too. Rather than being upset about this, the tech thought the glasses were adorable, and took time to listen to what the salesperson told me about the patent leather wrapping on the side. She was awesome by the way. Absolutely hysterical, very professional, great to work with and broke all of the costs and insurance co-pays down for me no problem. She told me that she would send me a text message when my glasses were in about one week later. 1.5 days later I got the text message and picked them up with as much ease as I did everything else. They said they would email me an appointment reminder automatically and this is the first doctors office where I didn't put it in my own calendar also because I completely trust their technology. Pros: the office staff, the techs, the technology, the attitude of the people working here, the doctor, the exam, the selection of frames, the tech friendliness of the business, the ease in scheduling, the respect for patients time. Cons: absolutely none. If I could award one yelp award to a business per year, they would have mine. Every other optometrist in the area should be like this. read more

Wonderful staff, excellent service! It's been a few years since I had seen Dr. Wang and I can say that I wish it hadn't been that long. Not because of my vision (that's doing just fine thanks to the checkup results), but because they make you feel like you're visiting family ( the family you love to spend time with). Wow, I can't say enough good things about this center. Being a New Yorker, that is rare. I flew into Cali for a wedding and forgot my contact lenses. The thought of traveling 3000 miles so I could not actually physically see my friend get married horrified me and sent me into a panicked search for a place to pick up contact lenses. Most places are either not opened on Saturday, require an appointment, or won't give you contacts without an expensive eye exam. I just needed a pair for the week so I could see at the wedding. Advanced Eyecare Optimetric Center totally saved the day! Reasons I think this place is amazing: 1. They have a functioning website 2. You can request an appointment on the website 3. I explained my situation on the appointment form and somebody actually called me back and left a voicemail 4. When I called the staff, Victoria, was super nice and understanding of my situation and offered me trial lenses without an exam 5. Since I knew my prescription, they gave me a FREE trial pair, lens case, and solution 6. When I offered to pay, they said it wasn't necessary 7. Everyone was so helpful and nice, not just one person but the entire staff They totally saved me from what could have been a really frustrating and expensive experience. She helped me from start to finish, Esther even helped me decide on which glasses looked best on me. I have been their patient for the last couple years. I recently received a bill from their office for their tests, some was performed 2 year ago (2015, 2016). They never informed me the cost and that I would be charged for the tests. IT IS NOT OK to perform a test on a patient without inform them with the cost. My wife referred me to Dr. Wang last Saturday night. I called him in a panic as I was having numerous "flashes" and "floaters" in my left eye. Out of his concern for my vision/ retina damage, Dr. Wang met me at his office at 10:30 on a Saturday night to give me a complete Eye Exam. He even had a retinal surgeon available if it was necessary. I cannot give a high enough recommendation for Dr. Wang' service and professionalism !! read more

The examination went well. The doctor was nice and courteous. Don't order shades from here though. I ordered $400 Prada POLARIZED shades that were supposed to be a gradient tint but what I got was completely different. I came to pick up my shades and they were all smudged and dirty. You would think that after spending $400 plus on shades that they could clean it up before I picked them up. $400 was the cost after insurance paid $200 or so. I should've checked to see if they were polarized or not before I left. They should've checked to see if it was polarized or not before handing over my shades. Maybe older customers would not know if they got polarized lenses or not but if I'm paying an extra 100 or so for polarized lenses I want what I paid for. I'm not sure if they are purposely charging customers for polarized lenses and not giving them polarized lenses but they need better quality control over here. I paid a lot for my shades and waited a long time to get them to only have something I didn't pay for. Now i have to drive all the way back there and wait for them to fix my lenses. The tiny was too light on my shades too; it felt like I wasn't wearing shades at all. I will update my review after I get my lenses fixed. Update 5/14/15: I finally received my shades and they are all scratched up. Good news is that they are finally polarized. I emailed them and left a VM about this. I forgot to inspect the frames when I picked them up as I only inspected the lenses. read more

Terrible service all the way around! I tried contacting them several times just to get my prescription for contacts and they ended up sending me a prescription for eye glasses, even though I specifically went to the center to do an exam for contacts. When I did my eye exam they had the front desk person put eye drops in my eyes as if she were the eye doctor and I only got to spend about 10 minutes with the real doctor (who wasn't very thorough in his exam). After the less than satisfying visit they kept pushing for me to order contacts from them but refuse to give me the prescription to order for someone else. I highly recommend that eye patients stay away from this eye center. It's been almost a month and I still don't have my contacts prescription. They are horrible! read more

I've been going to Dr. Wang at Advanced Eyecare for the past 6 years (at the old location on Jeffery & Walnut). Dr. Wang is a great optometrist and he's very attentive and gentle. I hate anything to do with eyeballs, it just grosses me out. Sucks for me because I have to wear contact lenses. But Dr. Wang makes the eye exam process so easy and bearable. The center uses very advanced equipment & the office is very very clean and modern. Dr. Wang's services & the glasses frame choices at the center are not the cheapest around (but they sure are stylish), but I will always keep coming back to Dr. Wang because he's definitely the best around in my opinion. I was referred to Advanced Eyecare Optometric Center by a friend after complaining about previous optometric experiences. In fact, I truly despised going to my yearly eye appointments because the experiences were always so bad. I remember going to an office where I was incorrectly diagnosed and given lenses that were too strong. Over the phone, this particular office just told me I needed to get used to it and never had me come back in to re-evaluate the prescription. I've been to other optomtric offices where staff was plain rude and impatient. For example, when doing the glaucoma puff of air exam I kept closing my eyes and the person on staff became impatient with me. I felt very flustered and almost wanted to cry. At the Advanced Eyecare Optometric Center, the staff is always polite and respectful. I love how everyone on staff, including Dr. Wang, is so patient to explain and educate me about my eyes. I also like how they explain so clearly how my insurance works each time I visit. I feel this office has up to date technology, friendly patient staff, and a knowledgeable approachable doctor. I don't fear going to my yearly check ups anymore. I highly recommend this place to anyone, especially to those a bit squeamish about their eyes. By the way, a women on staff, by the name of Christine, helped me pick out the most stylish frames. I get complements on them all the time. overdue review for my annual check-up....my 2nd exam was in september 2010. just wanted to add how helpful Nikki, the new (?) office assistant, was in 1) follow-up and 2) helping me order contacts 3) overall communication. Pre-exam stuff was a breeze and since i was going to Tokyo, she even offered to hold the contacts at the office so I can pick them up when i return (instead of sitting in a mailbox or at my doorstep). lucky for me the contacts arrived early and she sent me an email letting me know they were ready. prior to this she made sure she was getting me the contacts i prefer. i got a couple sample boxes but i decided to stay with my acuvue. dr. wang himself is still a pretty thorough, clean, and attentive doctor. i really hate eye exams - super bright lights, eyes tearing up, weird machines, etc. etc. i really appreciate how modern, quick, and detailed my eye exams are. remember to bring your sunglasses or a friend to drive you after getting your eyes dilated! read more

I was referred to Dr. Wang by a friend. I was truly amazed by both the personable staff and Dr. Wang himself. One evening, my son had an infection in his eye from one of his contacts and I wasn't sure if I should take him to the emergency or wait to speak with Dr. Wang. I contacted the office after hours and called the emergency number. Dr. Wang answered the phone and quickly diagnosed my son's eye- and, called us back later that night and next day to see how he was doing. Excellent customer service. I walked in and both receptionists greeted me with genuine smiles. I needed a pair of contacts to wear until my insurance started over, and I was willing to pay for them but they insisted that I don't. They ended up giving me three trial pairs because my insurance would not start over for another month. She wanted to make sure I was okay in case one rips or something. I am huge on good customer service and I do not tolerate bad customer service at all. I will definitely be making my next eye exam here. Also, if you have Anthem insurance they will work with you so you pay the difference between in network and out of network upfront and they reimburse you later. I didn't realize what crappy optometrists I'd been to until I switched to Dr. Wang. He was very thorough and found that my retina was detaching. According to my eye surgeon, it should have been caught years ago; Dr. Wang caught it on my first exam. He is friendly enough, but focuses more on the exam than small talk. (I like that. My last optometrist missed my detaching retina, but was chatty. Focus on work is good.) He also has a nice glasses selection- I've been to offices that order the same inventory year after year. There are classic frames and also trendy ones. There are also "Asian fit" frames if that matters to you. read more

Advanced Eyecare and Dr. Wang are incredible. I was having an urgent eye issue and did not have an eye doctor in the area. I called and was able to come in immediately despite their full schedule. This demonstrates that patients are priority and how seriously they consider eye problems. Dr. Wang was extremely nice, understanding and caring. I was recommended by my relative to get my eye exam at this location. So I went ahead and requested for an appointment for the following week. They sent out a google form for new patients to fill out in advance so they can "verify" the information which I responded in a timely manner. This gave them a roughly few days in advance to check my information. Not only did they have quite a bit of typo on the forms but also they didn't verify any information. When I arrived at the facility, the front desk staff told me she didn't know where the form was. She spent 10 mins trying to find the form that I submitted a week ago and then asked for my insurance card. She later told me that they didn't accept it here and only at their Dana point location to which I have to make another appointment for another day. She insisted that if I wanted the eye exam service for today, then it would be out of pocket. I wasted an hour of my time driving here only to find that my insurance card wasn't accepted. read more
