I just wanted to talk about how Dr. Prescher was absolutely amazing when I went to see him! There's so many high reviews for him, and honestly, he really deserves it. I came on a Saturday because something was bothering my eye (found out it was a scratched cornea) without an appointment or anything. He is very busy on Saturdays (Costco in general is packed on Saturdays), but was still able to squeeze me in; I had to come back a few hours later though, but that was no problem for me. I would definitely recommend making an appointment if you do plan on going to see him though. When taking a look at my eye, he was so knowledgeable and provided plenty of information. On top of that, he took his time with me even though I didn't have an appointment or anything. He made me feel like he really cared and I never felt rushed to get out of there. Dr. Prescher is by far the kindest, most down to earth optometrist I've ever met. He will spend as much time as you need in an exam with you, and be gets to know you not only as a patient but as a person. I had decided not to pursue laser eye surgery for so many years at the advice of previous optometrists, but he was the first person to talk to me about newer technology that would allow me to consider laser eye surgery in a person with dry eyes like myself. I got the surgery last month at his recommendation and I've never been so happy to have almost perfect vision without glasses or contacts for the first time since elementary school. My previous optometrist charges me $84 for an eye exam for contacts. As far as I know, that seems pretty average/on the cheaper side for someone who doesn't have insurance. However, she does charge slightly more if you do not purchase contacts from them in store, so there's the drawback. Dr. Robert Prescher is the optometrist at the Irvine Costco, and he definitely deserves all of these 5 star reviews. I came in today to get my eyes checked so I could order contacts online, and he was very personable, comfortable, and quick. I had my eye exam in about 15-25 minutes, just enough time for my bf to go and shop for the items on our grocery list, and I finished as soon as he finished paying. The office is small but doable and for how inviting he is, it never feels cramped. He definitely is knowledgeable and even imparted some extra wisdom to me about contacts and glasses. The cost is $89, but you also have your eyeglasses prescription included as well, which my last optometrist did not do. I only wish Costco had a dentist, I would go there too! read more

I went to Dr. Prescher while I was uninsured for a few years and I was always happy with his services. He was patient, knowledgeable and very eager to help with any questions or concerns I had. He was especially helpful when I had to go through 4 different brands of contact lenses after a freak round of eye infections. His office is very small yet always clean and accommodating to last minute appointments. Also, the doctor/staff don't try and up sell you with products/upgrades you don't really need. So it was time for my annual peeper check at Dr. Prescher's office. I can't believe I have been coming here close to 10 years and I certainly cannot believe I'm barely yelping this! Wait.. Here are the reasons why I am a very diligent patient with Dr. P here: * Dr. P almost always has some availability. * He is very thorough and makes sure ur comfortable with ur specs or contacts. * Dr P asserts a sense of calmness, looking like the cool dad who loves to golf. * Eye exams are pretty reasonable.. I remember paying around $75 when I first started. Currently, it's $89. I wear contacts. If you just have glasses, it's cheaper. * He doesn't sell you the most expensive brand but whichever suits u the most . yup, doesn't even try. * It's a tiny facility but somehow they manage. * Having his office inside costco just speaks for itself. * I like freebies. I'm blind, like really blind. So blind that I can't see at all if I don't have my contacts in or glasses on. It's actually really sad. I can't wait for the day I can afford LASIK, but for now contacts will do. It's taken me awhile to finally get an OD that I really like for my contact lense exam. Dr Prescher is a really nice and knowledgeable OD. His office is located inside of Costco in Irvine, which is great for all us Costco lovers. The office is tiny but it's always really clean and staff is friendly. Plus side of his office being inside Costco is that the fees for the exam are a bit cheaper than private offices. $89 for a contact lens exam is awesome!! It's about 15 bucks cheaper if you wear just glasses. I love this office because I never feel rushed during my examination. I feel like I can really concentrate during the examination and pick the right choice for me and for my eyes. Dr Prescher will talk to you like you're an old friend or even a dad like figure (for us younger crowd). He'll give us suggestions for our contact use and/or glasses use. It's great!!! He'll also give you a free pair of contacts at the end of the exam (which is fairly typical of OD or MD offices). I highly recommend Dr Prescher's office to all us people who are in desperate need of a contact or glasses exam, you won't regret it!!! read more

Dr. Prescher is such a friendly and professional guy! He really does take the time to get to know you, despite Costco being very busy at all hours. On top of that, he is very knowledgeable on all topics of life, especially health, so he is a good guy to have a chat with. I've been wearing glasses for about two years now and I hate it. Fashion aside, having something on my face sucks, as does having to constantly clean lenses. It was time for contacts. But I didn't want to go back to the doctor who gave me my glasses because, frankly, she was cold & had a terrible manner. Costco seemed like the best solution, because of pricing, and this location is my go-to spot. So, I made an appt. with their on-site doctor, Dr,. Prescher. I arrived, his assistant did a couple quick tests, and then I was in to see the Doc. He's a great guy. Very friendly, easy manner and he doesn't make you feel rushed. That was my problem with the last person I saw; it was like she couldn't wait to rush me out the door and bill my insurance. This guy takes his time to be sure you're getting the right readings. He's knowledgeable, answering every question I had with honest answers. I don't see any reason to go anywhere else. Ever. read more

I have been going to Dr. Prescher for about 7 years. His office is obviously convenient thanks to its location in Costco. He takes his time working with you and is very knowledgeable. When I came in following treatment with an ophthalmologist for a cornea issue, he saw the scar right away in my exam and made sure to reassess my contact prescription to accommodate the new contour of my eye. My mother worked in ophthalmology for 10 years and she always makes her appointments with him too. I am always very impressed. By the way the availability is great. Usually you call a doctor and expect to get an appointment in a month or so. With Dr. Prescher, I am usually able to schedule within 2 days. Just Fabulous. read more

There is nothing more I can add, to the already glowing reviews I have read about Dr. Prescher. He is so very professional, excellent at what he does, and just makes going to see your eye doctor a very pleasant experience. He has a vast amount of knowledge to share, and yet if you want to talk about surfing, he can do that too. Dr. Prescher strikes me as a man of real integrity, and in today's world, I so very much appreciate that. Also, regarding my contact lens exam, I walked out with contacts (by they way, I have been wearing contacts since I was 12. And, unfortunately I still have to wear them,even after a "failed" LASIK surgery, which is ANOTHER story. Anyway, I walked out of his office with contacts that finally gave me the vision I needed! (side note: My surgery was ten years ago, and within months, even after a second "correction" surgery, my eyes have basically reverted back to where they were before. VERY BAD. Like I cannot even read the big E on the chart. It's grey fuzz. The LASIK experience has been SO disappointing! Not a good candidate, due to my astigmatism, but Dr. Tooma the surgeon did not bother to steer me away from surgery, and thus is was a waste of time and money. Moreover, it has actually been a very sad thing, because now I have NEVER been able to get 20/20 back, since I can't wear hard contact lenses (gas permeable) anymore...I have to wear soft, and they just don't correct like the hard lenses did.) ANYWAY, at least my good Dr. Prescher was able to help to the best of HIS ability (which is wonderful) and I have about 20/40 or 20/60 vision, corrected with soft contacts. Thanks for reading. this is inside a costco but you do not need to be a costco member to have an exam! during covid they changed to appointment only and they open tuesday to saturday instead. the regular contact lens exam costs $99 and i'm very satisfied with it. when you pay at the cashier they will print a copy of your prescription so you can order it right outside at costco optometry (costco member only) and they're happy to give out solutions or a pair of lens while you're waiting for new ones to come. read more

Talk about a hidden gem. I've been coming to Costco Optical for years, but in the last four or five I've specifically seen Dr. Prescher. He's on top of his game and very current on optical technology. Being older, like me (67) he understands the eyes' aging process and has been exceedingly helpful getting just the right contact lens Rx. You never leave feeling rushed and he is unfailingly personable. He also will go the extra mile for you. While there was about a $35 difference in cost versus my health insurance, I gladly paid the extra to see Dr. Prescher today. read more

On May 1,2018 I was seen by Dr. Walton in dr. Prescher's office for prescription renewal and examination. Dr Walton examined my eyes and I took the prescription to the optical center in Costco for new glasses. When they came I realized that something was wrong, I could not read clearly, but decided to give them a trial period as I was told my prescription needs had changed. A week later I contacted Dr. Prescher's office and was seen by Dr. Walton again. He said he was going to change my prescription . After the new glasses arrived still could not see properly. I again gave them a fair trial and was unable to use my new glasses. I made an appointment at another Costco vision center, explained my situation,and the optometrist examined me and gave me a new prescription. When my new glasses arrived I could see clearly. The Dr. told me there was no need for my original prescription from 2 years ago to be changed. I called Dr. Prescher's office and explained this to the receptionist and he said they do not refund medical procedure charges.So, my eyes were examined, the prescription was wrong, not once but twice and they feel that I should not be refunded the cost of a misdiagnosed exam. You decide if this office is where you want to trust your vision to. read more
