I was looking for a new eye doctor and by recommendation I decided to give Spectrum optometry a try. They are convenient since it's one of the few places that opens until 7pm on weeknights. My visit was with Dr. Lee. She is nice and professional and nothing is wrong at all. However, I don't have a great experience with the staff members and my review is solely on the services by the staff members. As a first time customer, I would expect when I said I wanted to make an appointment with Dr. Pamela Wu, the staff should have made my appointment with Dr. Pamela Wu. However, that's not the case! My initial appointment was with Dr. Pamela Wu but a few days later, a staff called and wanted to reschedule due to some personal emergency, which was fine. When my appointment was rescheduled, I thought I was seeing Dr. Pamela Wu but it didn't occur to me that not only it was NOT Dr. Pamela Wu, it was someone else. The staff failed to inform that it was another doctor who would be seeing me. (NOTE: minus point) Fortunately, the guy who called for rescheduling was nice. However, that was not the case with my co-worker who was also supposed to go to the same doctor. Instead, a female staff who called my co-worker for rescheduling was very b*tchy. According to my co-worker, not only she was rude and full of attitudes. She told my co-worker that all doctors are the same why does it have to be Dr. Pamela Wu. Due to that reason, my co-worker didn't even bother reschedule and refused to go at all. (Another minus point) After my eye exam, one of the staff members was trying to promote their special sale for eye solutions. She was trying to promote in English but another female staff, rudely interrupted her and said in Mandarin "enough enough, don't sell". She didn't know I understood Mandarin since I spoke mostly English. I found the other female staff not only very rude to her co-worker but extremely ill-mannered and uneducated as a service professionals. She doesn't have the basic understanding of good etiquette. (Major minus points!!) I was very disappointed by the staff service and it would be my first and last visit! Especially in the line of service professions, you only get one chance to impress the first time customer, instead the staff didn't act wisely and showed the ugly side of it. It doesn't even matter if the eye doctor was good because the only experience I remember was the rudeness of the staff. read more

I really like this optometry office and have been going to them for 10 years! They have a clean office, good staff, and most importantly qualified doctors. They also have a good selection of eyewear if you want to purchase from them. I would recommend seeing them for annual eye checks as well as any other eye concerns. OMG, just found out more crazy things about this place: 1) the previous sales info of my lens did not include UV when the model price already included UV functions! I found out from another vendor.... they were going to charge me ~$80 for UV add-on that was already included & free in that model/lens! OUTRAGEOUS. either they are shady or not trained well 2) the owner used his employee's yelp account to contact me! I have been a patient at Spectrum Optometry for YEARS and my two teen children are on their 2nd year of being patients as well. I have always received good customer service and felt their service and care was honest and genuine. Their staff is up-to-date on VSP benefits and apply them accordingly to my visits so that I don't have to worry about it or look it up. What is wrong with the people here. The staff put up this facade of friendliness, but when it comes down to it, they're pretty incompetent. The minute you walk in, at least 2 people ask if you have an appointment. No, I don't, I'm just looking. Then they just kind of stare at you. I really just go in to peruse the glasses. Being as blind as I am, you can never have enough back-up pairs. So I finally bought some, since they have a good collection of Kliik frames from Denmark that I really like. The manager there is pretty nice and has been around a while. In fact, it was he who told me that his new frames would be in. There's another staffer there who must be like the assistant manager or something, who's a little too cocky for me. Anyway, decided to get an exam as well. Dr. Joseph Wu was cute and helpful. The doctors and staff are on two ends of the spectrum: competent vs. incompetent. Bizarre. I don't know how these doctors can work with these people. Maybe they don't and they just kind of look the other way. I certainly would. When I was picking out frames, the "trainee" as her tag stated, was getting all flustered because I was taking the new frames out of the plastic bags in which they came. Anytime I had more than two out at once...well, that nearly made her blow a gasket. She was all, "I need to match the bag to the frame." Well, honey, the model number is on the frame itself. Sheesh. Then when I was filling out the forms for my exam, the guy going over all the options was completely incoherent. I couldn't tell if he was speaking Chinese or English or both. And the list of options they give you is as long as the ones you see from sleazy car salesman trying to sell you extended warranties. What a pain. We came to this place after seeing that they take our insurance on their website...with reservations on the stars they had. We left, about as happy as we could possibly be. We started out with a prescription from an awful little place in Laguna Hills (http://www.yelp.com/biz/south-coast-eye-care-centers-laguna-hills#hrid:inKiNIbB7boLMRiqINTO2g), that gave my husband the wrong prescription TWICE, and would not replace the financial damage done by their actions. Spectrum Optometry gave him a new exam and he can see again, out of BOTH eyes! Not much to ask, right?! They also got him set up with some sunglasses that have a notoriously difficult to make curvature. I got my first exam since I was 8. To say I've got 20/20 is insulting to my eyesight. But to watch these guys take care of my husband and get him on par with me for being able to to see again was like a dream. Thanks guys for taking care of us both! read more

I purchased my glasses here a year and half ago. It's one of those "titanium" frame they sell me. Cost a fortune in my opinion, for a brand that I've never heard of. That was my first purchase in this shop, given that many friends and family got their glasses here, and this shop has been in Irvine for years. Today the frame snapped right in the middle of bridge. That's right, not at where the bridge joint the rim, but in the middle of the bridge. So my immediate thought was to come back here and see if they can help. I don't expect to have it repair/replace for free, just want to know if they can help. The store just opened but looks empty. There's no glass frames on the display shelf, not sure if they will be closing this branch and keep just the Diamond Jamboree branch. The person at front desk told me they can't fix it, and can't tell me where I can get it fixed. It's just wrong. If these people in the eyeglasses business don't know where to get it fixed, how can you expect a customer to find out? Luckily a friend of mine referred me to a jewelry repair shop for laser soldering and fixed it. low quality product, inflated price, and bad customer service. Very unprofessional, the staff are blaming me for not getting their email with a prescription attachment. It was not in my spam, that's their excuse when you complain that you didn't get their email. I told them I got the email with the receipt of my payment. They said the email was sent within an hour of my leaving their office. Yes, I got that but the point was the prescription was not attached to their first email. If I did not call, I won't have my prescription on hand. I don't think they understand why I called. They are insisting they are efficient and on top of their game. When they answered my text it was out of timing. I already emailed them and they emailed me back with my prescription and done. They texted me this morning that If I asked for a copy again, they will charge me $3.00 a copy. Can you believe that? I'm a long time customer of Spectrum and outside the normal annoying optometrist upsale on glasses/contacts/sunglasses, I've never had much problem with them. My entire family has used them for a decade and we've spent thousands of dollars at their establishment. Recently we asked to cancel an order of glasses on the same day it was placed (on a Saturday). We were told that the order could not be canceled as it had already been placed with their supplier (on a Saturday?) Fair enough, but in the interim since this incident, Peter has been nothing but rude, unhelpful, and insulting to our family. He has suggested that he's too busy to answer our questions and doesn't want our business. If you're looking for an establishment that cherishes long term relationships and focuses on eye care over profits, I suggest you look elsewhere. I hate writing a bad review as I like to assume positive intent in others, but this business has made no attempt to retain our business and I feel others should consider this before giving their hard earned money to such an establishment. read more

I've been going to Spectrum Optometry for 9 years, and I don't think i'll ever switch to another eye care provider! The employees here provide great customer service, and the office is always clean and classy. But the best part is always getting to see Dr. Wu again. At every appointment, I know I'm coming to see someone who genuinely cares about my well-being and who is well-read and professional enough to provide me the best service possible. Dr. Wu cultivates meaningful relationships with her patients, and even remembers any small details about my life that I ever mentioned to her. All in all, she seeks to understand her patients instead of just seeing them in exchange for money. Dr. Wu is so caring and empathetic to my needs every time I see her. When I got a corneal ulcer due to infection and almost went blind in my left eye, Dr. Wu was there to help me feel better when I was in pain and in the aftermath of it for years later. I have had bad experiences with my previous optometrist so I decided to try this place out. Very large selection of glasses. I was pretty impressed with the selection. Everything went well! Dr. Thai Tran was great. Made me feel really comfortable. I really like him! Tracy was great helping me out with everything. -1 star only because I paid close too $400 and my glasses is supposed to take about a week or two to come in. I wish it was faster. Lenscrafter costs just about that much with a free eye exam and you get the glasses the same day. Kind of made me regret not going to Lenscrafter in that I really wanted my glasses asap. read more

Terrible customer service!!!! Never received a text or phone call about my moms glasses and instead of apologizing for not calling. He gives excuses as to December was a busy month. He then proceeds to try to show me proof that there was a text message and there was nothing. She also asked to get her prescription emailed to her and she never received it. He tries to make it another point that it was sent and When he shows me it was from 2020! Point made!! Regardless of the fact he should of apologized for the mistake. He tries to turn it around on us that we are barking orders to him. I was so enthralled by his statements and behavior towards clients like that. He tells my mom to not come back here again. WOW!! She told him she never wants to come back! Then this guy tries to insult Koreans by saying this Taiwanese company is beating Samsung! What does that have to do with anything of the situation. I would recommend Spectum Optometry for your eye needs. My first experience with Spectrum Optometry was last year, when I got a comprehensive eye exam and contact lens fitting. The staff and optometrists were efficient and polite. This time, I went in for a medical exam due to a pink eye, which was not covered by my insurance. I was advised that, depending on my condition, the cost would be $50 or more, but I was happy that they accommodated me with a same-day appointment. All staff were wearing masks and taking appropriate COVID-19 precautions. I was seen quickly by Dr. Josh Gun, who was thorough in his examination, which included a flourescein test, and explained my diagnosis and treatment well. I received great service from the optometrist as well as Tracy (glasses sales associate) when I went in for an eye exam and to purchased glasses in February 2020. During the lockdown my glasses broke. I waited till they reopened and Tracy helped me send the glasses in as they were still under warranty. DO NOT GO TO THIS OPTOMETRY. The customer service is absolutely the worst. The staff is unwilling to work with you or accommodate your situations. Several times, we waited for over 30 minutes for our appointment and they will change the doctor last minute without asking you. If you call to discuss anything with them, they will be extremely rude and serve their own ego, instead of serving the customers. They also overcharged me one time and when I called to ask about the price when I noticed the error, the manager was extremely rude without looking into the what happened and refused to apologize for the mistake. I have been with Spectrum Optometry for 10 years now. They have always been very professional, kind, gentle, and prompt. They have always taken great care of me and my eyes. I truly appreciate the doctor and staff there. Unfortunately, they do not take my vision insurance anymore (Avesis) so I cannot go there anymore. From what I was told, they did not re-enroll with this insurer for 2021. And the only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because an inconvenience I experienced at my last annual exam - "after" my appointment and completing the exam, they told me that they did not accept my insurance anymore. The same vision insurance I have had since my last appt there. So I couldn't get my contacts/updated glasses through them at that last appt, and now looking for a new eye doctor. Bummer bc I really liked going to them! But I do wish them the best of luck with business and maybe I can go back to them someday in the near future. read more

Three pairs bought here all went broken in two years. One pair of sunglasses with one lens kept falling off the frame. Told that no way to fix it but to push it in every time. Ok it is still bearable to me. One pair of glasses with broken lens during the second year of using. Bought the expansive lens which should protect them from scratches. Because it is out of the one year warranty, I was told to pay for the full 300 dollars if I just want a pair of new lens. So I decided to trust them again and buy a complete new frame with more expensive lens. Should work right? No, turned out to be this pair of frames has a design fault. Extra small screws means it will break easily with just a little more forces. Broke within the first year, glad it is still in warranty and got shipped back and gave me a new pair. Look good right? No, I waited 1 month before getting it and it broke again in just 6 months. This time I am out of warranty. Great. This means I either have to pay 300 dollars for an pair of substitute glasses or pay more to buy a new one. Why would I have to pay for the stupidity of RayBan? Spend $1000 dollars for three pairs of glasses here with one pair of sunglasses still usable. Will not buy anything from them anymore. Cheap prices turn out to be not cheap at all. I will not recommend this to any of my friends. read more
