I've had a lot of pizza in my life! Traveled several countries, so I'd like to think I know a good pizza when I get one. I've ordered twice from here. Once as a sit down and once as a pick up. However both times, it was a disappointment... The pizza crust is overly dry and floured, and the center and bottom of the pizza tends to be very soggy and slightly undercooked dough. I always order to go and am never dissatisfied with the service or the food. My go to is the veggie on gluten free crust. Lately I've been adding breadsticks and the first time I got them, I assumed marinara would be included but it wasn't so that was a bummer tho the bread was soft, lightly crisp, it lacked any flavor so I made sure to get the marinara next time. I eat here on a monthly basis for lunch. Their pizza is fantastic! My usual is cheese lunch pizza (which is thin crust) with a side Caesar salad. Their hand tossed is great too. I've also had their grilled chicken and grilled shrimp salad and they're delicious. I'm not a huge fan of the baked spaghetti. Tastes just like regular spaghetti but it's good, a lot of cheese. Never heard of Spanky's until I was in the area to pick up my sister for dinner. Original plan was to go to a nearby Nicaraguan restaurant, but it was 7:30 pm and the restaurant was going to close at 8. I got on Yelp and started looking for something close by and Spanky's showed up with a respectable rating so off to Spanky's we went. Pulling into the parking lot, I was surprised at how packed this place was. It was a Friday night so I could understand a restaurant being packed, but this was like PACKED-packed. I went up to the hostess and asked for a table for two and she informed me that it was going to be at least a 40 minutes wait. Whaaaa...??? This place is THAT popular? Who would've thunk it?! I told her that I'd wait and proceeded to go to the restroom. Well, what do you know?! There's a bar area with A LOT OF EMPTY SEATS!! Why the hostess didn't even bother to ask if I'd seat at the bar, I don't know. But after I finished using the restroom, I went back to the hostess stand and informed her that we'd just go ahead and sit at the bar. Soon after we sat down, more people came in and sat at the bar. Full house at the bar as well. I felt kind of lucky that I decided to sit at the bar when I did because otherwise, I'd have to wait the full 40 minutes to get seated. Anyway, moving on! There was only ONE bartender/server at the bar and although she was working super duper hard, I could tell that she was getting overwhelmed. She came up to us and asked us what we wanted to drink but failed to hand us a menu, we had to ask for it. Throughout our dining experience, although she was around, but she was really unavailable for us because she was always serving one guest to the next from one end of the bar all the way to the other end of the bar. What is up with that, Spanky's?? Friday night, full house, and one bartender? No no no. I ordered the fried pickles to start off and the large Special Pizzas (Italian Sausage, Pepperoni, Beef, Green Pepper, Onion) to share. The bartender asked how I would like the pizza made and I opted for New York style, because NY that's why!! The orders didn't take too long to prepare, the fried pickles came out pretty quickly and to my surprise, they were actually really good! One of the better fried pickle chips that I've had around town. The pizza came out not too long after, and although we asked for NY style, the pizza just didn't look like NY style pizza. The crust was more on the thicker side (although very good), but it just looked like any other pan pizza that you'd get from Domino's or Papa John's, you dig? The pizza actually tasted decent. Not super duper delicious that would make me go out of my way to come here. but better than most. However, I was a bit disappointed at how little toppings that they actually put on the pizza. If anything, they put a lot more veggies than they did the meat. For $20, they really could afford to put a bit more toppings on the pizza. Me and my sister couldn't finish everything so we asked for a to go box. Our bartender gave us what we asked but failed to bring a lid for the ranch. Honestly though, I would have preferred for her to offer me a new container of ranch, but whatever. I waited a while before I could ask for the lid (see comment above about her being scarce) and finally paying. As I was leaving, the bar area was not as packed anymore but the dining floor in the restaurant was still packed. I didn't see anybody waiting by the hostess table anymore but in the parking lot, traffic was busy with cars trying to leave. Will I be back? Maybe, if I'm in the are and craving some pizza. Will I make a point to drive all the way out here just for the pizza? Definitely not. Luna's pizzeria is a lot closer to me. Hot toppings pizza is even closer to me. It was delicious from first bite you can taste all the elements that are in a BBQ chicken pizza ( BBQ, chicken, red onions, cheese, I think there was bacon on my pizza). Second, it's light on the digestive system - which I definitely appreciate - so I don't feel heavy and sluggish after eating four slices *blocks face*. Third, they are pretty affordable with a variety of already created pizza selections that you can choose from, in addition to building your own. Then why the 3-star rating you ask? I don't dine-in because as some of the other reviewers have mentioned, it is a very loud spot. When I pick-up my orders, the attendants most times ignore me for a few minutes before acknowledging that I am there waiting for my pizza. This I find to be very rude. It is lunch time on Monday! I ordered the chicken personal pizza which came out fresh, glistening, and moist tasting quite scrumptious. My daughter ordered the 8 pc wing and chili cheese fries. The wings are crispy, delicious and seasoned spicy not lacking in the area of sauce. The ranch dip is good. The chili cheese fries which are crinkle style lack seasoning and the topping is meh (5/10). My son had the all American burger which he said was great with lettuce, bacon, cheese, ketchup, and mayonnaise. His fries were crinkle plain lacked seasoning and crispness to the point of uncertainty of being done. The strawberry lemonade was not sweet but the regular lemonade was just right. The Gatorade was bland. The main course of food wood have me to return like before and the sides will be scratched. The inside was inviting with soccer World Cup playing. My friend recently offered to pick up pizza for us for lunch and she grabbed some Spanky's - a medium half margherita and half pepperoni and mushroom on a NY style crust! Wow!! The margherita pizza was amazing! So much flavor!!! That olive oil, the garlic, the pesto!!! It was greasy deliciousness!!! I didn't even mind the pepperoni and mushroom! We killed the whole pie between the 2 of us in 1 sitting; that's how good it was! Way different from my last experience here apparently. It was so good, I wanted it again the next day - so the bf and I decided to do an UberEats order. I mean, he suggested pizza and I just suggested the place! We ordered 2 mediums this time - same 2 flavors! Medium Margherita on NY crust and a Medium Pepperoni and Mushroom on a thin crust! That margherita doesn't fail to amaze - he enjoyed it as much as I did and he usually likes meat on this pizzas! I thought the thin crust was a bit dry, but it was exactly what he wanted! We had leftovers this time so I technically ate Spanky's 3 days in a row, and I wasn't complaining! The dough was a bit bland heated up the next day and the thin crust became a bit soggy... overall, we were happy and we would definitely stop by again (probably real soon). The pies were a bit pricey for the size - $18ish for a 13" medium specialty pie.
