I tend to shy away from restaurants which are inside resorts, but we made an exception for Spago, as we've been to other Wolfgang Puck restaurants and found them consistently good. We had to push our reservation back due to settling in late, and requested Jeb at the recommendation of other Yelpers. He was a true delight - very engaging and obviously proud to do what he does. The Four Seasons is known for service and Jeb is really the standard. Now, on to the food. We did the bread service which I have to say, was very tasty. Thanks to Jeb, we were able to do a half order and they split all portions without an upcharge which was very kind. I couldn't decide between the cod and the gnocchi as our next course so we went with both. You should too. The gnocchi was tender with a rich ragu. I was sad to have to split it! Our final course was the curry which was a lot to share and very doable for two. I know we were not big spenders this meal due to the fact that we didn't want to go to bed ill, but we were treated so well and made a reservation for our last evening also. We even got a very special treat of meeting the chef prior to departure. I was star struck and only managed to bumble through the conversation. But hey, people who love food, love food, no matter where you happen to be. 5 star restaurant or otherwise.

Fire knife dance is actually farther away.

Spago felt more like a lovely dinner spot than a destination for celebrating a special occasion, as our anniversary wasn't acknowledged during the meal by our main server. We had been quite spoiled at the Fairmont restaurants and at Ferraro's, where we were given wonderful sunset-view tables and where our anniversary was warmly acknowledged. At Spago, we were seated three rows back near the bar. Fair enough--only so many tables can have prime placement--but unlike Ferraro's, there was no acknowledgment of our anniversary at all. No "Happy Anniversary," and no sense that it had been noted. I assumed I must have left it off the reservation, as there was no recognition during service. The only mention came from Vicky, the assistant server, who remarked on how unusual 31 years of marriage is and asked our secret. That was appreciated, but it was the extent of it. Our main server was professional but somewhat perfunctory and not especially warm. Vicky, on the other hand, was friendly and genuinely pleasant. On the food side, there were some bright spots. I enjoyed the Guava Lava--a lemon, coconut, and pineapple cocktail that drinks like dessert. The bread platter was a highlight: onion sourdough focaccia, Samoan rolls, and wheat-and-thyme flatbread crisps served with butter, yuzu, and baba ghanoush. I also enjoyed the macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi, which was well prepared. For dessert, we ordered the Lemon Zinger. Only ten are made each night due to the labor involved. It was light, refreshing, and nicely done. "Happy Anniversary" was written in chocolate on the plate--there, we were finally celebrated, Spago-style, thanks to Vicky. If you're there on a Saturday or Sunday evening, you can catch a partial view of the Fire Knife show, which takes place at 6:30 pm and is visible from the balcony.

Food was amazing! The staff were not. The 3 stars Is only to reflect the treatment from Staff. The 2 young front desk workers were very unwelcoming. Tried to prove we had no reservation. Said they found it but it was for 3 days later, and currently had no space. We obviously see a lot of tables available. I showed my phone confirmation, but they said we are now 8 mins too late. Did another reservation in front of their faces. They didn't expect another available spot, so they made me wait an additional 15 mins longer than my new reservation time. The waiter - David with the Shirley temple curls was decent AFTER realizing we actually had money to spend. I noticed we didn't fit the color of the restaurant... after people in the restaurant saying how we looked so Hawaiian / local, fees like they sure try to keep our look out. Ugly America displayed in my favorite Chef's restaurant. We'll continue visiting other Wolfgang locations, but this one is definitely a prejudice feeling spot. Definitely ruined my night. Hard to enjoy my dinner after feeling so unwelcomed. I didn't want to leave after already tipping the Valet parking only at the 4 seasons. Wolfgang recipes are always next level though, no doubt.

I wish that a six star review was possible! We visited this Spago outpost one year ago, and knew we had to again enjoy all it has to offer. The ambiance is fine dining in a casual, laid-back manner. We enjoyed a great caviar service, terrific appetizers, wonderful entrees, the establishment's signature bread service, and a superb dessert. The wine selections were likewise fantastic. Do yourself a favor and ask for David to be your server; he is the model by which all servers should be judged. It was great to reconnect with him. Wolfgang Puck and his son, Byron, were there, and both visited our table and engaged us in memorable conversation. If you have but one fine dining experience in Maui, make it Spago. So very great!

We had a great experience at Spago's. Yeah, it was expensive dinner and I know most folks won't want to use their dollars for $100 bottles of wine (low end) and $95 plates. This is definitely an experience for a special occasion. We saved money to have this dinner because it was important to us. We paid the cost of four dinner dates. It was worth it for us. No photo for our appetizer. I forgot about it. Our steak and fish dinners were amazing. We received three desserts. Two were complimentary and one we purchased. Service was top tier. And the ambiance was unforgettable. Our view was amazing and we watched the sunset while eating. (I created a collection of all the restaurants we visited on Maui from fine dining to food trucks and all in between.)

A great restaurant option if you want to celebrate a special occasion when you're in Maui. I made reservation a month in advance with a special request and got front seating with the best view of the sunset. It was sunny at first so I had to wear shades while eating and it was a really hot since it's outdoor seating but then everything got better once the sun is setting down. The food was really good, and the size was decent. I ordered the Thai curry, the pork chop, the bao bun (by accident since the server misheard what I wanted), the chocolate soufflé and a couple cocktails drink. The foods took some time to make but I'm not complaining since you get to enjoy the beautiful view. The server was pretty nice and friendly. All the foods were on the pricier range but you're there for the experience, the view and the atmosphere. The valet parking was free, which is nice since it is a high end restaurant. I would totally recommend this restaurant if you want to celebrate a special occasion!

This restaurant is fantastic. One of the best service experiences I've ever had. The waiter and bus team went above and beyond. We came on valentines day, the weather was nice and we sat outside. They had a prix fixe menu which was very good. I think for the price and portions very good gets 4* though part of me wants to give 5* because of the service and ambiance. A true 4.5 I guess. Would recommend, would go back, would try different menu items.

Culinary Review: Spago Maui Dining at Spago Maui strikes an impressive balance between refined culinary execution and the relaxed elegance that defines the island itself. While the restaurant certainly delivers the caliber of cuisine expected from a Wolfgang Puck establishment, the experience feels refreshingly unpretentious--elevated without ever becoming stiff or overly formal. From the moment we arrived, the service set the tone for the evening. Manager Danny made a point to check on our table several times throughout the evening, ensuring everything was running smoothly, while our waitress Emma delivered truly exceptional service. She was attentive without hovering, knowledgeable about the menu, and warm in a way that felt genuine rather than rehearsed. An additional staff member--whose name I unfortunately did not catch--noticed an opportunity to enhance our experience and moved us to a table with a better view. It was a thoughtful gesture that was not requested but deeply appreciated, and I regret not getting his name to recognize him properly. Small acts like that demonstrate an attentiveness to guest experience that goes beyond routine service. The bartender also deserves recognition. The drinks were prepared beautifully, and the individual who crafted them was equally kind and welcoming. It added another layer to an already enjoyable evening. What stood out most throughout the restaurant was the atmosphere among the staff: every single person seemed to be smiling and genuinely happy to be there. In hospitality, that level of morale is rare and speaks volumes about the culture of the restaurant. The culinary execution was equally memorable. I ordered the New York strip steak cooked medium, and the kitchen delivered it flawlessly. Achieving a true medium without scorching the exterior is not always easy, but Spago's chefs managed it perfectly--the steak was evenly cooked, beautifully tender, and expertly seasoned. Our meal began with bluefin tuna, shishito peppers, and mushrooms, which turned out to be the highlights of the evening for both my wife and me. The tuna was exceptionally fresh and clean in flavor, while the peppers and mushrooms offered a satisfying contrast of texture and savory depth. These dishes were simple yet refined, allowing the ingredients to shine. We also tried the Thai-style seafood coconut curry. While the dish was well-prepared and flavorful, it leaned slightly too sweet for my preference. That said, the seafood itself was fresh and well cooked, and the dish remained enjoyable despite the sweetness. Our drinks complemented the meal nicely: a classic Arnold Palmer, a crisp Prosecco, and a glass of ice wine to finish the evening. To close the evening, the kitchen surprised us with a birthday dessert--a generous gesture that added a thoughtful personal touch to the experience. The Basque cheesecake was outstanding, with its signature caramelized exterior and luxuriously creamy interior. Alongside it came a beautifully prepared profiterole that provided the perfect contrast of textures: light choux pastry, rich filling, and indulgent sweetness. Overall, Spago Maui succeeds in delivering a high-end dining experience that still feels distinctly Hawaiian--relaxed, welcoming, and joyful. Excellent service, thoughtfully executed dishes, and a team that clearly enjoys what they do make this restaurant stand out even in Maui's competitive dining scene.

Spago is an LA establishment known for founding Michelin star worthy food within the city, perhaps even the state. Thus, for visitors to Maui and especially those from California, Spago is a familiar sight. Located in the Four Seasons hotel where the first season of White Lotus was filmed, there is certainly plenty of fun of enjoying this location whether visiting the hotel or staying in it. When it comes to Spago Maui, it is certainly a much less formal version of its sister restaurant in California and presents a tropical vibe. It is not focused on multi course dining experiences or meticulous details, while the service is relaxed, albeit friendly while still being attentive. Presentation of dishes is also simple, while portions are fairly generous. Spago Maui is not about pushing the boundaries of creativity, but rather focuses on pleasure of food. Thus, it is important to arrive to Spago with the right expectations that this is not a dining experience that would typically land any Michelin stars, but is more centric around comforting dishes in a tropical atmosphere. Dishes like Asian style steamed fish with bok choy are remarkably satisfying. Curried catch of the day is amazing. Rolls are constructed attentively. Pavlova was sadly extremely over-sweetened, so maybe skip the dessert. The wine list is impressive with an amazing sommelier on site from Wolfgang Puck's sister restaurant in Vegas. So, order what looks most pleasing at the moment, chat with the somm and enjoy the sunset.

Ask the Community - Spago

Is outside wine allowed and if so what is the corkage fee?

Yes, $65 per bottle but only two are allowed but if you have a magnum it's $160 I believe

Is there a kids menu?

Yes they have one

Do they have happy hour?

No, but they offer kamaaina with two forms of Hawaii I.D. Only on food!

Would khaki shorts and a button down shirt or collared polo shirt be appropriate dress wise?

Yes! That's what my BF wore most nights we went. Very Hawaii dress up, which is casual

Let's just say I enjoyed THREE in 15 minutes! We also ordered the fish and chips and fish tacos, and both were delicious! Great food, excellent service, and a fantastic spot to enjoy lunch in Maui. Definitely lived up to the hype! Highly recommend!

In short, an already mediocre dinner was spoiled by a pushy waiter who gave us lousy service, kept…read moretrying to force more drinks on us and complained about the tip... an extra mandatory 4% tip for the kitchen on top of it! I've been to the Monkeypod kitchen in Ko'Olina, Oahu, and I have nothing but positives to say about that location. When my father wanted to take the family to this particular location on Maui I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we were severely let down. When we sat down, main server asked me probably 3-4 times if I wanted anything other than water, and finally I caved and got a maI tai. After I finished it, he asked me another 3-4 times if I wanted another one, despite me telling him I was good after the first one. I appreciate attentive service, but the guy was incessant and trying to upsell us. As far as dinner goes, Food started to trickle out slowly over the next 5-10 minutes, and it was clear that the kitchen wasn't organized. I ordered the bulgogi tacos, one of my favorites at the other location. Unfortunately, they were lukewarm. The worst part was, they completely forgot about my father, who only ordered fries, and when he received them, they were lukewarm, limp and soggy. After my father asked for the tab, he noticed there wasn't a mandatory tip included for the wait staff, but there was actually a separate 4% tip for the kitchen. Since when is this a thing? How about you pay your kitchen a livable wage and quit putting it on the customers? So my father refused the pre-selected 20% tip and tried to put in a "custom" tip of 16% of the bill, which when added to the 4% would have been a total of 20% - in my opinion pretty generous, considering the lackluster service. Here's where it got bad. The server was practically breathing down his neck while he entered his tip, and when he was handed the payment gizmo because it wouldn't take the tip amount, loudly exclaimed "That's not enough!" and then threw it down on the table and stormed off. How demeaning and embarrassing! Is this how you treat customers here? I helped my mortified father figure out how to make the machine accept his tip (despite my suggestion that we drop the amount down to a penny) and we left without another word. Monkeypod, shame on you for: - embarrassing my father, who is a very generous man, - employing wait staff that openly demeans their customers, - serving us mediocre, lukewarm food, - and demanding an extra 4% for the kitchen that didn't take any pride in what they made. What a shame.

But, you don't expect to eat such well-constructed food served with such professional service. The prix fixe menu for $150 each has a wide range of selections. We really enjoyed the ahi chili poke, the hamachi crudo and the panzanella. The latter was by far the standout with super tasty local tomatoes, crunchy croutons and a delicious dressing on top of a shallow puddle of gazpacho. We had the steak and the kampachi entrees. The steak was the better of the two, with an oyster mushroom fried tempura style and a couple of delightful sauces. The dessert was great, but we were stuffed at that point. We had the chocolate lava cake (excellent) and the pineapple meringue. The service was epic: breezy, professional and hospitable. The wine program is pretty much off the charts. We had the half bottle of Grüner Vetliner, which was perfect with all of our courses. It's a good deal at $50. By the way, the crystal is exquisite! All this, with beautiful panoramic views of the bay.

6.22.26 UPDATE We…read moreoriginally had a disappointing experience due to slow service, limited attention from staff, and the lack of air conditioning during our visit. However, the owner took the time to respond and explain that the entire shopping center wing was experiencing cooling issues and that the restaurant was dealing with significant staffing shortages at the time. While that doesn't completely change the experience we had, I appreciate that the owner acknowledged the challenges and responded professionally rather than dismissing the feedback. One observation I would offer is that, as a customer, it was difficult to tell who was serving tables. I noticed several employees in Pint & Cork shirts moving around the restaurant, but only saw a couple of servers actively covering the dining area. It's possible some staff were assigned to bartending or other responsibilities, but from the guest perspective it gave the impression that table service was understaffed while other employees appeared unavailable. I still think there is room for improvement in the flow and logistics on the floor, but I appreciate the owner's willingness to engage with feedback and explain the circumstances. That being said, I would be willing to give the restaurant another chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE: 6.21.26 I appreciate the response. It's telling that you addressed the air conditioning, disputed the gender of an employee, and questioned whether I was even there, yet didn't meaningfully respond to the concerns about service, timing, attentiveness, or food quality. If a customer leaves with a poor experience, the question isn't whether they perfectly recalled every detail. The question is why they left with that impression in the first place. I suspect future readers can draw their own conclusions from both the review and the response. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the most disappointing dining experience of our Hawaii trip. We specifically asked to sit indoors because we wanted a break from the Maui heat after spending the day outside. Unfortunately, we quickly realized there was no air conditioning, making the indoor seating barely any cooler than outside. The restaurant also felt severely understaffed. It took around 10 minutes just to get a Diet Coke, and every time I asked for assistance, the woman working at the register seemed to defer the request rather than help or find someone who could. Meanwhile, some employees appeared more interested in chatting than helping customers, while only one or two staff members seemed to be working the floor. I understand restaurants get busy, especially in a tourist area, but the issue wasn't just the wait--it was the feeling that customer service wasn't a priority. As for the food, it was nothing special. I ordered a steak that had a nice smoky flavor, but it arrived well done and overcooked. The rest of the meal was average at best and definitely not memorable enough to make up for the service issues. Between the lack of air conditioning, slow service, inattentive staff, and mediocre food, this was one of the few places in Hawaii where I genuinely regretted spending my money. Considering the location at The Shops at Wailea and the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and execution. There are far too many great dining options in Wailea to come back here.

This experience was excellent! It's a definite recommendation and almost worth the money. What…read moremakes it the best is the view and ambiance of a private romantic dinner. Each of the dishes were either extremely good or just so-so. My two favorite dishes were the Miso marinated cod & the Waygu striploin. The Miso marinated cod was savory & had almost a buttery texture. The miso flavor was all throughout the fish and it was cooked to perfection. The waygu striploin was next level as it should be having the second most tender and flavorful cut of steak. This was Waygu so it is definitely better than USDA Prime grades served at restaurants but definitely not that high of a grade among Waygu steaks...but still was excellent. The just so-so dishes were the Huli Huli Chicken & the poached kula beets. The Huli Huli chicken was kind of bland if we are being honest. It was chicken so I still enjoyed it but definitely wasn't popping with flavor. The poached kula beets flavor was a little flat as well. There was something missing that would have made this dish pop. The fried ice cream to finish off the dinner was pretty good but fried ice cream is better in theory than in actuality. I probably would've liked the dish more if it had been just ice cream. In terms of service, our server was great for the most part. She has a bubbly personality, knew when it was the appropriate time to introduce the next course and was speedy. Now you are probably reading the review and are thinking 'Brady, this looks like a 4 or 5 star review, why are you giving it a 3 star review?'. Well there are 2 major things that knocked the experience down a few pegs. The first thing was the bottle of wine provided for us. La Crema Pinot Noir Monterey 2019 was the wine they served us. It was a screw top wine bottle which when you are at an expensive and fancy of a dinner as this, you would want a cork popped. Also, I looked up the price at retail and it's $17 which means the hotel/restaurant got this probably at $10 or less wholesale. This dinner was the most expensive dinner I've ever had and to give us a cheap bottle of wine is insulting. The second reason I am giving this a lower review is because on one of my final bites of the Huli Huli chicken, there was a long jet black hair in my dish. So it's unfortunate that this happened because it was an honest mistake but again when you are paying Michelin star prices, mistakes like these cannot happen. Also when I told our server, she got very awkward and didn't know how to respond so it left me feeling awkward. She never addressed it but when she came back for next course, she did give us an extra bottle of that cheap wine saying it was for congratulating us on our marriage. I secretly think it was because of the hair but it was never addressed after I brought it up. Overall, I think the experience is worth it for the views, ambiance and settings alone. However Marriot needs to be less stingy on the wine served with the dinner and more cognizant of the dishes going out. This could've easily been a 4 or 5 star dinner so I hope the decision makers can make appropriate changes to make future diners experience next level.
