I have been going to Spa Space for 8 years almost--I have brought friends, my husband and both my sisters-in-law in for services as well. We all used to really love it--especially Endira--I hear she is still there. Her microderm facials were really great. It has been sort of the go-to place for my brothers to give me gift certificates to for special occasions. I was recently there to redeem a Groupon Gift for a massage and mini-facial. I have noticed over the last 8 years, the facility has taken a turn for the kinda-not-kept-up. For example, there is a wall in the women's bathroom where the tile was not installed correctly or the wall was not installed correctly. It is still not fixed...8 years later. The bathroom overall is a little dirty (like the corners not cleaned and carpet not installed right and coming up). I couldn't get the toilet room door to lock. The furniture in the resting place looks like something that has been there too long. Plus when I went to put my things in the locker, I could not find a single available locker except one that was locked open so I wasn't comfortable putting valuables in it. For the love, those terrible spa shoes. They are like the plastic soccer sandals that you fall out of, don't fit fight and I have walked out of/tripped on a number of times. Even the cheap $2 flip flops from Old Navy would be better! Didn't they used to have better robes? It is really as if no one has done an update in too long. Finally, in my massage, the head rest was covered with this really cheap looking plasticy mesh thing and a sheet that looked like something from a motel--what happened to the nice spa towels and sheets? I hold management responsible for this. I understand that this is often how it is with the Groupons but I couldn't make any modification with my service and apparently didn't get any input into my services. I really wish I would have just taken the value of the groupon and gotten microderm with Endira. It was a waste of my brother's money. The massage therapist and esthetician were both very nice and I could tell wanted to do a good job. And, of course, as I left the front desk was sure to remind me of the "retail value" of my service so I could tip appropriately. I wasn't hot on the massage, got a facial service I didn't really want, and left $60+ lighter in my wallet. I think it will be my last time at Spa Space. read more

I came here for the first time for a couples massage. The staff were friendly, but the quality of service was disappointing. We arrived on time but it took 15 minutes to get situated before the massage actually happened. The massage itself was nothing special and I was far from impressed. We definitely did not receive the full 60 minute massage that we paid for - I kept track from beginning to end and it lasted 49 minutes. The massage was not worth the money, I wouldn't recommend this place, and I won't be returning for future services. read more

This place is terrible. I received a horrible massage the first time I went so they gave me one complimentary, the second one was good. However, the spar itself is just not nice. You can hear cars outside your room, and don't get me started on the bathroom. The steam showers are disgusting and molded, like seriously molded and there is no privacy for changing. Terrible waste of time and money. read more

Spa Space is the only place I will get my nails done. I always go to Patricia and Monika, who both do excellent jobs and are extremely friendly. It is a bit of a walk from where I work and where I live, but I think it is so worth it! read more

I love this place and have had great days here, especially since my mom passed away in July, but today I'm disappointed by the fact that I requested an appointment online - as usual- and someone called back to confirm (even taking my credit card number again), but when I arrived (after paying $10 to get here by taxi) for a 12:30 appointment I was told there was no record of me having one! Be mindful when using the online system - call them to confirm your spot time before rushing over. I tried the Happy Feet Pedicure - which was advertised as being for someone who loves massage. I do! The one complaint I usually have when getting pedicures is how little time is spent in the massaging of the feet. In any case, while a lot of products were used and there were multiple steps to the pedicure, I didn't feel like I was getting an uber-massage experience. It just felt like she was rubbing in the scrub or lotion. Even when I asked for more pressure, it didn't feel anymore intense or relaxing. It was okay, but definitely not worth the extra money. This was surprising because I have only ever had 1 bad experience here - years ago with a facial. read more

Service is good, just had an issue with them honoring an agreement which was made after a groupon purchase and we weren't able to come to a solution read more

AMAZING spa, staff and management! The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable. The products they carry are also very nice. I highly recommend Spa Space! read more

They've redone the mani/pedi area, but the quality of service has remained the same. Last time I was there I accidentally smooshed two of my nails and they fixed it for me so that I was good to go! read more

I keep reading about how everyone had facials that hurt, I had an awesome facial. I was really pleased with the service, people were patient and hospitable, and not snotty like plenty of other places I have been to. I was given a skin prescription and my skin completely cleared out. I would happily go back and have referred the place to others, read more

Three and a half years later, I gave this place another chance and was happy I did. Check-in was relaxing with the free tea bar and massage therapist Kat was skilled and comforting. Yes, the locker rooms were still small, but this time I was the only person there which made it manageable. Watch out if you are with a crowd, however! read more

I recently booked the Space Mission package, as well as the super fruit facial. From start to finish, my experience was superb. I had been to Spa Space years ago and always had adequate, but not amazing experiences, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But everything exceeded my expectations, and I have been recommending this spa to anyone who will listen. The Space Mission consisted of a long and luxurious massage, followed by reflexology and an Indian Head Massage. The massage was one of the best I've ever had, and I almost melted into the table after the subsequent treatments (book Lauren and Deanna if you can!!!). The facial was amazing and relaxing. I felt truly pampered and treated like a VIP. Plus, the prices are far more reasonable than some of the luxury spas in Chicago. I recommend this place to everyone and will definitely be going back. read more

I'm not a regular massage goer, but when I do, I expect something good. And I had been here before and had a really good deep tissue massage with masseur Armando. But it seems that the quality of your massage is determined solely by the quality of your masseur. Shouldn't be - there should be a level of quality for the whole place. So, needless to say, I had a really really really bad massage with someone named Bill. It was an Indian Head Massage. Bill didn't wash his hands, he didn't use oil or lotion, just pulled at my skin, and rubbed completely strange areas where you wouldn't imagine stress to be while ignoring the obvious areas. It was like being sedated but conscious of someone performing an autopsy on you. I can't waiting for it to get better, but finally had to ask him to stop. It was the longest 20 minutes. And on this occasion, their change area was really dirty. I was the first appointment of the day too, so doesn't make sense. There's so many other nicer places in the city, this should not be on your list. I wouldn't go back. read more

I think everyone here is super nice and accommodating, and I've had my issues with the place, so if I give it four stars, then its good :) The first time I went to Spa Space I had a really bad experience with a facial that caused a very time consuming and costly problem with my skin. I will tell you that a) that facialist is no longer there and it was a rare thing, so this should not be taken into consideration if you are planning on going here, BUT, b) the owner, Natalie, was very helpful and understanding throughout the year long process it took to fix the problem. I have since been back repeatedly for facials with Indira and massages with Bill. Both are outstanding. I've bought many gift certificates for people to Spa Space and I think its a great place. It may not feel like you are out West in some fancy hot springs spa, but my review is based on the quality of the services and the staff. I definitely recommend. read more

Let's just say I was a bit nervous about my first Brazilian. Well, Tara put me totally at ease and did the job with skill. I knew it would hurt, but she ripped with speed (sorry if too graphic) to ease the pain and the pre-rip freakout time. I will go back to Tara for sure. I also had my eyebrows and lip waxed. I'm pretty sensitive and get very red. I wanted to wait it out so as not to embarass myself on the street. The receptionist suggested I relax in the sitting area by the massage rooms. It was perfect. read more

I have been coming to Spa Space for probably ten years. I like like it because even though it's small and kind of understated, it is very well appointed. I have had prenatal massages, manicures, pedicures, body treatments, hot stone massages, you name it, I've tried it. I'm loyal to them because they are really easy to book (I had three spa services on Columbus Day which reminded me to write this review), the prices are reasonable and you get everything you look for in a spa without being overwhelmed or overcharged. It's really great! read more

I like to treat myself to spa services every year for my birthday. The spa that I was originally going to book with was full, so I booked an appointment with Spa Space. I'd been there several times before, but my last appointment was over a year ago. Since it's convenient to my job, I figured I'd take off early and treat myself to an early present. I booked a signature facial, and lavender pedicure. The lavender pedi is advertised as having the "most massaging". Since many salons are pretty stingy with their foot massages during pedicures, I was really looking forward to that pedicure. I arrived for my facial 15 mins early. The esthetician came to get me from the lounge about 5-10 mins after my scheduled appt time. After I got settled into the room, she examined my skin, I told her my concerns, and she convinced me to upgrade my services. (Why not? My skin deserved it.) The facial felt nice and relaxing (except for the extractions, of course). However, once I was done and returned to the lounge, I was a bit disappointed. I guess I didn't expect to see the same dry skin areas that I had before I got the facial. At least put some moisturizer or oil on my face to lock the moisture in. (I eventually did that once I got home, and my face thanked me for it.) Nevertheless, I waited in the lounge for about 25 mins for my next service - the pedi with the "most massaging". My wait should've only been about 15 mins, but the nail tech was a bit late. Once I was finally brought back to the pedicure area, I quickly learned that the chair I was going to occupy for the next 45 mins or so was not functioning properly. It was stuck on the "knead" function, and I could barely feel it. No biggie, though, because I was about to get a pedi with the "most massaging". If "most massaging" means "gently rubbing exfoliating scrubs and lotion on your legs and feet", then that's exactly what I got. I'm definitely not a fan of deep tissue massages (they hurt!), but that was the gentlest "massage" that I've ever had. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. The nail tech did a decent job overall (my feet were soft and my nails were nicely painted) but, considering the description of the service (and the cost), I expected more. I would like to compliment the front desk staff. They were pleasant during the check-in and check-out process, even though things were a bit hectic with a large party of ladies checking in. Though I wasn't completely satisfied with my overall service, I wouldn't rule out returning. However, it's definitely not in my top 3, and I'm sure I won't be returning any time soon. read more

I was given a gift certificate for a one hour massage. I'd never been there before, and am not generally a regular spa-goer, so I was a bit overwhelmed by what to do. I checked in at the front desk, and the clerk seemed preoccupied, but got me checked in and then gave me a brief tour of the women's lounge along with a cup of chamomile tea. She did educate me about the lockers, but not about the rain/steam shower or the products available for use; another client happened to be in the lounge and showed me what I could use, thankfully. A robe and flip flops were provided - but pro-tip, bring your own flip-flops because the ones they provide are quite beat-up and actually hurt my feet where the thong portion connected on the sole. My massage therapist, DeeDee, was AMAZING. Easily the best part of the experience. Communicative, talented, and really listened to me when I explained where I felt pain or discomfort, even educating me about what specific things I may be feeling and suggesting additional stretches and at-home treatments to help me. When I was finished, DeeDee brought me more tea and said to take my time checking out, which I did. Unfortunately, not very long after I began to decompress with my tea, an employee walked in and shouted that she was shutting down the area and they were closing. I began to finish my tea and get a quick shower before dressing and leaving, and during this process the employee was basically stalking the lounge waiting for myself and other customers to finish up. She was whistling aggressively and rushing around the lounge area, so that those of us still in the lounge doing our best to finish up felt really awkward, like we were impeding her end-of-work-day. This was pretty rude, completely stress-inducing - definitely not what I would expect out of a spa, where one goes to presumably relax. So, SpaSpace, if you're going to close up shop exactly at a certain time, it might be a good idea to prep your customers far enough ahead of time, perhaps even prior to the appointment start, so that they're not shocked and made to feel like pests, literally being denied any a post-massage relaxation period. I may or may not return, but if I do, I'll make sure it's early enough in the day not to piss off an employee who's ready to go. read more

I have been going here for over14 years...It's my favorite spa. From when you walk in to when you leave the experience is always great. I love getting my manicures and pedicures here. I always ask for Kennise she's the best, but so are all the girls! I love how sanitary they are were they don't re-use nail files and the buffer and you can take it home! It always feels clean and I don't have to worry about getting a fungus like the chop shops! Highly recommend any service here! read more

I came here with my best friend for massages. Im not to wild about the reception area of the store -- its cluttered with products to buy and have this bar-like area which i was confused as to if we were supposed to sit up and grab a drink or just head on back to the locker room. The locker room is nice, however its very small. I can understand that though, considering the location. The "relaxation area" got crowded very quickly as we were all crammed in there waiting to be seen for our treatments. The steam showers are very nice though and the robes feel great! Ive had several massages before, however I didn't like the one I got here from my girl. My best friend loved her massage though. Its really hit or miss, but the girl was really nice. I can handle deep tissue massages, however I was feeling the most excruciating pain from this girl that ive ever felt. I was nearly in tears but didn't have the courage to tell her to lighten up. Overall, i'd go back. The price is reasonable, but I wouldnt go back there with more than one person with me. Its just too small of a space for me to really be able to relax. read more

So I have had several facials in my life. I do have skin that tends to break out easily (hence the many facials). I went here to get a facial and walked away sorely disappointed. My face has totally broken out as I don't think the esthetician did a good job with the extractions. When I've had extractions in the past they tend to hurt a bit and they make sure all that gunk is out. When I had the facial here it felt very light and wasn't sure she got all the blackheads. (she didn't) and now my face is a hot mess. yikes. read more

I had a great facial and massage here the other day using my Groupon. However, you should know that it is misleading since you don't actually get a discount with the Groupon (the facial is normally $54 and the massage is normally $75. The Groupon costs $129). read more

Stopped in here for a last-minute manicure on a reco from my aunt, who lives nearby. Manicure was excellent! Manicurist was friendly without being overly talkative. Manicure lasted fully 8 days...which for me is like some kind of record. Kind of pricey for a girl who's used to NY mani prices (read: cheap!). But I did get what I paid for: quality! read more

No clue how people can rave about Spa Space for manis/pedis. They do an awful job everytime, regardless of the person you go to. The maniures never last more than a couple days and I am definitely not rough on my nails/hands, -I want my manicure to at least last 5 days decently. Not to mention both your fingers and toes will have un-evenly laid, messy nail polish all over them. read more

A good time was had by all!!!! We had the art of touch experience and it was wonderful. My hubby and I were pleased.

I continue going to Spa space to have facial and some facial related procedures. Today I would like to thank Gina, a fantastic esthetician and person, who truly cares. She is calm, warm, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable. My skin looks much better and younger after every facial with her, she knows what my skin needs and always remembers what I got last time and asks how did I like the result. I put 4 stars because I am supposed to rate the whole facility, but if Gina wasn't there I am not sure I go to this place because it is pricey and, in general, is not exceptional. read more

I had an amazing experience at Spa Space. A fantastic massage in a very relaxing atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and hospitable! I will return on my next trip to Chicago! read more

Maxine is, by far, the best waxer I have ever been to. Her Brazilian waxes are as fast as they get without compromising quality or thoroughness. She produces the best quality while causing the least pain. Her eyebrow waxes are incredibly on point. I have 2 eyebrows with different arches and she makes them look perfect. People always comment how great my brows look after I see her. She really is "the Michael Jordan of waxing" as my friend says. read more

I have changed my stats to 5 stars, because the front service has tremendously improved. They greet you by your name, offer water/drinks, remind you to book appointments and even have a reward membership program. As for the services, GINA is the best in town. I have been going to Gina for 8 years now, and she does an amazing job on facials and waxing. The week after visiting her, my skin looks flawless and hydrated! She is very knowledgeable about skincare and always up to date on the latest techniques on facials. I have recommended her to several of my friends, and they are hooked on her. Also she does a great job finding products that fit your budget! Highly recommend this salon and definitely visit Gina! read more

My sweet boyfriend bought me a gift certificate package for my friend and I to go for my birthday. The package included a 90 minute swedish massage, vitamin c facial, mani and pedi. It was scheduled to last 4 hrs and 15 minutes and I left after 6 hours of bliss. Overall it was a good experience. 99% of the staff is very professional, facilities are clean and cucumber water and green tea were in abundance. Massage: I have had many in my day and the 90 minute swedish was okay. Tables were warm and smelled of eucalyptus. Facial: more like a skin evaluation and treatment. We talked about daily regimen and what i can do on a daily basis to improve overall appearance. Angie even gave me foot massage during my exfoliation and a shoulder massage during my vitamin c masque. BEST FACIAL OF MY LIFE!!! Mani /Pedi: Generally I do not like to pay for to get my nails done, (mainly because I do a lot of manual labor with my hands and I ruin my nails in a day) but I enjoyed the peppermint pedicure and the seasonal manicure. I will say that my friend and I were getting this service at the same time, and I got the experienced and fun technician. The other tech was talking about why she got fired from her last place of employment and she kept forgetting steps( lotions and scrubs) and repeatedly knocked things over. Luckily for her my friend is very kind and did not complain, although we do not think it is her calling in life to do nails. At $55 per mani and pedi I think the average customer would have complained. I left smelling like an orange on my face, eucalyptus on my body, peppermint on my feet and pumpkin on my hands. I will go back for another facial and possibly a body wrap. Thank you to my loving boyfriend who treated me to a day of pampering. I love you. read more

I don't usually write reviews but for Spa Space I think I ought to. I have gotten possibly 100 massages in my life, but none of them could compare to those done by Janice. When I was training for marathons, she provided much needed relief. After getting an injury running, she also was able to provide stretching and massaging to get be back to normal. Even now when I'm no longer running long distances, Janice provides me with the ultimate stress and tension relief after a hard couple of weeks at work. I have had other masseurs here, and they are all fine, but Janice is truly worth every penny. I also love the decor and particularly the peaceful locker room/waiting area. Finally, if you get a chance to use the steam shower, it's amazing! read more

I was disappointed in the Pineapple Papaya Pacific Paradise. Spa Space website made it out to be something it really isn't. Don't waste your $160.00 on it. Go for the the one hour massage and a pedicure instead - if you are really looking to pamper yourself. First off - the massage therapist asked me how I would like the service done. Scrub first, then massage? Massage first then scrub? Front first then flip? Back first then flip? I didn't go to the spa to have to make decisions. Secondly - the massage therapist NEVER stopped talking. That really made me mad. I have been to Spa Space before - but I am not sure I will go back. read more

I'm torn on Spa Space. I've visited Spa Space twice, and both times I just got bikini waxes. The first time I went I saw Maxine and had the best Brazilian ever, but the second time I saw another girl and had the worst one ever. The front desk staff was also 50/50. The first time I went they were great, and the second time I went they were blah. The space itself is nice and relaxing. $60 for a Brazilian, pretty standard price; however $60 + tip for a terrible wax definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want to get too graphic, but I paid $73 for something I could've done with my Schick quattro! I would probably go back but only if Maxine is free! read more

After a long hiatus, I recently returned to Spa Space for an event. What a difference a year makes. This place could stand for a complete renovation. Broken floor tiles, chipped wall paint & torn "pleather" manicure chairs? Hardly an oasis. Pretty soon the only separating looks of Spa Space & your local 'L" Station will be the crowds. read more

This location is very convenient, however if I'm paying $60 plus tip for a bikini wax I would hope that they do a good job. I felt like she rushed through my appointment and did a horrible job. I'm giving a 3 star because they were able to take me in the same day I called. read more

I've been here twice for the groupon Microderm offer. The atmosphere is very nice, they offer you cucumber water. However, after my first experience the technician used too much of an oily moisturizer that caused me to break out really badly afterwards and my skin never improved. I went there the second time asking them to increase the microdermbrasian and sanitize their tools just in case it was the cause of the infectious breakout. After the second one, I still broke out but very little and still didnt' see any improvement. I'd say they're probably just a good day spa, but don't have the proper technology. I regret buying three of them. read more

I went to Spa Space this past weekend and I was a little underwhelmed with my services. I have the vitamin C facial, which was very nice. I also had the Lemongrass pedicure when I am pretty sure the woman skipped a step. There was a small cup that had oil left over after the treatment and there was never really a massage portion. I have had a lot of pedicures and they always have a foot massage. I'm not sure if the woman was running late, but it was missed. We go as a group annually and next year I am going to rethink where we go. read more

I had heard about Spa Spaces great service from girls I work with, so when I needed a bikini wax I decided that I would give it a shot. Though Maxine was incredibly friendly and nice, I was not satisfied with the results. I have gotten plenty of waxes in the past and have never once bruised. This time I had 2 huge bruises on either thigh (which made me more self consious in a bikini than razor bumps ever would). Also, I ended up with numerous ingrown hairs as well as some hair that was not even removed. Instead of feeling sexy (which is what bikini waxes should do) Im feeling more insecure and embarrassed. I still feel the customer service was great, again Maxine was very nice as well as the ladies at the front desk, and the space is very clean and welcoming (Maxine never reused an applicator). I wouldnt reccommend going here for waxes. Other serivces I have heard are great, but Ill be looking for a new place for my waxes in the future. read more
