Felt compelled to write an review because of the incredible & personable service which seems to be a rarity these days. I just had to pop in for a hair product I was warmly greeted and assisted. The employee who helped me with the product and the employee who checked me out couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. It seems like these days most stores you go into the people working couldn't care less, they don't acknowledge you, they don't help. Well this is not the case at Blue Mercury! *Update* You know what? I got to give them props. They saw I wasn't to happy about this location (here I go acting like the Queen) but seriously I did expect more. Anyway, they actually reached out to me and invited me in. I haven't set a date yet but I find that very respectable of them as a business. It shows that they take criticism and suggestions in the way it should be taken... to improve. So for customer service I'll give them an A (except for the sales person who is always gossiping or listening to his/her iPod. Don't want to call this person out as I don't want them to loose their job or something. Hey, I'd probably do the same since it's so dead in there haha). I really hope this store works well because it's so close to me. *Original* I love BlueMercury. It's my favorite place after Sephora to shop for beauty related items. I live on the same block from this location so when I found out it was opening at 4 E. Elms new building I was ecstatic. While construction was going on, I was looking for information about the opening date and if there were any opening events (I run a successful beauty website, so I wanted to see if I can cover the event for my blog) but couldn't find any info about the opening. All it said was Opening This Summer on the windows. Well, Summer came and left and the store was still not open. One day I was passing by and all of the sudden I saw this chalk board saying "we are open". That was super random. To me it seems that they did a rush opening because when I visited this location I was super disappointed. 1). The store isn't completely finished. The windows have this cheap looking "now open" sign that looks more like a Dollar Store sign than an upscale beauty store. 2). It's super cramped. The layout in there is horrible. I literally couldn't turn around without worry about knocking over an expensive candle with my purse. On top of that, there are too many employees. I can literally feel them breathing down my neck. It's such a small space for that many employees. It makes me not want to go there because I get anxiety just thinking about the employees asking me if I need help every 2 minutes and theres no escaping them. It's too small to browse peacefully while shopping. They literally are on top of you. Not because they are bad (they were all super nice) but because theres no room for them lol. 3). No special opening. With online shopping so prevalent now days, if I go into a store I go for the experience and fun. As I mentioned I run a heavily trafficked beauty blog and I always shop for cosmetics both as a hobby and job. I love everything from makeup to candles to hair care. So for me, going into a store is all about the experience. It's just not as fun to come here as it is to go to Sephora on Michigan Ave or another BlueMercury location. This was my first visit. I hate to give it such a low rating but it's just not up to par with the other locations. Hopefully it will improve. It was fully stocked with great products, clean, friendly staff and great location but thats it. Maybe when they put more focus on the store it will get better and than I can review it again. The sales people need to chill. I'm there for 10 minutes and 4x I was asked if I need help. No, for the love of god, I don't need help!! I understand this is their job, but at a certain point it becomes interruption and is invasive and super annoying. Please just let me try on lipgloss in peace (and also- there's 5 sales people not doing anything- we will ask for help if we need it!! I've never been to a blue mercury so I was intrigued. When I walked in the sales associates were super friendly and let me know they had a sale table with items half off! Couldn't get better than that. I was looking for a new moisturizer and the sales associate Melody was very helpful. She asked me questions about my skin then suggested a moisturizer that has been life changing for me. The other girl who was there jumped in and told me that people love the moisturizer I was getting and it would work really well for me. The staff was super friendly and knew a lot about products.I used to be a Sephora and ulta shopper but that is no more blue mercury take my coins!! read more

What happened at this location? It used to be a crew of friendly, fun women who were always willing to help. They even knew my dog's name! Now the store is super overstocked and the employees are sad and unfriendly. I can't even tell who is working there because they're wearing whatever they want and look like they're just hanging out. The store is super clean and has a wide range of cosmetics. The store assistant(Katie I think) was nice and super helpful, she helped me find a concealer in my shade which is a Herculean task because not a lot of brands carry it in my shade with the required undertones. read more

I visited with my Step Father as he is so sweet to patiently let me makeup shop. The staff could not have been nicer. Both Hector & Inga were super nice to my Poppa Pat. While I was browsing they didn't "blow him off" or "pretty woman" him as he is super friendly. If anything they were so nice to him, chatted and seemed to enjoy his stories. Rude employees every time I go in. Any time I have stepped foot in this location the employees and women working seem bothered by any question regarding product I have and are extremely unhelpful. The attitude in their voice and expectation of not interacting other than a fake "Hi how're you" make me not want to consider BlueMercury as a place to purchase skin and makeup any longer. Let me start off by saying this store is AWESOME! I've never been in a Blue Mercury, and the staff was so welcoming and knowledgeable on everything. I was welcomed with a spa menu, which was awesome. I was like a kid in a candy shop! Hair, skin, makeup and candles? Count me in. The store was very clean , pretty signs in the window, and even witnessed a cute blackboard with an inviting message. I am an old man and have never gone to a skin care spa before. I told my daughter about a dry skin condition on my face. Hand cream is to rough for it. She recommended Blue Mercury Spa as people that could help. I went in and was greeted by Madeline and Hector. The two young people were very wiling to answer my questions. Hector a well dressed intense young man jumped in like an EMT on an accident victim. He showed me many things and explained things. He asked my budget and found something in my price range that works well. This was 2 days ago. Today I took my daughter in. There was a tall very well dressed and made up lady. I cannot remember her name bur she is Lithuanian and she helped us today. My daughter is knowledgeable and experienced. This lady was a able to even she her things that she did not know. She gave to us some small samples that may even be better than what my daughter already uses. We were very impressed and know where to go for answers. The people here are very disinterested in helping or assisting you find products. They also display a lack of information, when they are asked a question about a product. This is the third time I have been in this store, and each time the sales people show absolutely no interest in helping you. They tell you their promotions, then disappear. An example, when I walked into the store inquiring about a certain product, the sales person pointed to a location, did not walk me over to the shelf, just pointed from about 15 or more feet away. I had difficulty finding the shelves she was pointing at. When I did find the correct shelving, I still couldn't find the exact product I was looking for. This is minutes going by. So I turned around to find the sales lady and there she is standing at the counter just watching me looking. All this time she could have come over to assist me. Made no attempt to assist. While checking out, she again went over the promotion. Why should I give more business to a sales person, who was unwilling to help me in the first place. I will go to a different store and purchase the products I need even though there is no promotion. Whoever manages this store, really needs to pay attention to this review, and train your employees in customer service or business will be lost. read more
