This Ulta Beauty is located on Michigan Avenue and while our original plan for the Magnificent Mile did not include a stop here, we were interested to see if they had our favorite scents in travel sizes. The store is good size and packed with goods, making the aisles tight to get down, especially when busy. The aisles are one-average person wide, so be patient and mindful as you move around. The store was clean and in decent shape for a store located in the heart of it all. Shelves were nicely stocked, but some were a bit disheveled and in need of some love. This store had something that many stores on Michigan do not...public restrooms, so I was super thankful to find that out! Overall, our trip in was solid. I didn't know it was possible to have such a terrible waxing experience...but it finally happened at Ulta's salon. My eyebrows do not match, they are asymmetrical. They're shaped differently. And misshapen at that. My right eyebrow looks like it was sliced in half. I have to use an eyebrow pencil to fill in where too much was taken off. Under my right brow, is a spot of missing skin that was tugged off while getting waxed. I found it odd that she didn't wax the area between my eyebrows - I've had hundreds of waxes and this is the first time that's never been done. She didn't trim my eyebrows or pluck any stragglers, either. The worst part? How the stylist kept talking about how one eyebrow is higher than another. Being told "one eyebrow is higher than another...you know that, right?" is not a good feeling. Like I see that in the mirror daily, I'm well aware. It's a huge insecurity for me. And the stylist brought it up multiple times during my appointment. My eyebrows will grow back. But I will not be returning to this particular stylist. If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been here about 4 times now for blowouts, braids & root touch up. You don't get any frills like a regular salon but the employees are all extremely sweet and will make you feel welcomed! I came in about 2 weeks ago looking for someone that could give me tight braids and Lashae killed it! She was extremely busy trying to run the salon and short staffed but she did a great job and was very fast! Zion did my root touch up and gave me an amazing blowout last night! Highly recommend her if you're wanting a fabulous bouncy blowout, she really takes her time! Definitely not my favorite location, although, I do love Ulta. Super crowded, almost to the point where the air was escaping. There was a parade and an Art fest today. I walked in to find a Pat McGrath recommended lip gloss. They were out. I searched for the Springtime Dior color, again they were out. Found the Ordinary brand, blood red peeling mask. I grabbed it to try. Long line, the cashier asked if I found everything ok and if I would be needing a bag. I replied no to both because they were out of the lip gloss. She said, give me a minute we can order it for you and ship it to your home. I felt myself get a little excited. The color is beautiful. I'm sorry, this one is completely sold out. Let's try the Dior. They had it in stock so I ordered it. I paid for the Ordinary mask and was handed a receipt but she tried to keep it. She said I thought you took it already. All to be used for benevolent purposes, no doubt and without a hint of satire.) Just ring up my danged overpriced lab garbage and let me be, please. You don't need to build a profile for me. I'm probably not coming back, boo hoo. On a side note, I don't like their name, Ulta. It's kind of like Ultra, but more bland. Ul-tuh. I didn't get to say her name at the register, but I just wanted to write about how sweet Mia was and how she helped me find a lip color that looked good on me when she's a brand rep! She brought another co worker to get their opinion as well and they were both so helpful. I stop here sometimes to window shop and pretty shy so I'm really grateful she came up and helped me today :) And I made the purchase in the end which was a Fenty lip stain and a few other products! I really want to love this location since it is so convenient to my apartment but I just can't seem to escape a horrible checkout experience each time. Waited over 20 minutes to check out this past visit and was met by an incredibly loud and abrasive cashier who made the entire experience even worse. I was recently followed at this location. When I entered the store, all of the associates were busy. I flagged down an associate to ask for the product I wanted to purchase and was told it was not in stock. I decided to browse the store to see if I wanted to buy something else. As I scanned the rows, different associates began coming up to me, asking if I needed help. I communicated that I was just browsing. I did not think much of them being attentive until the 4th associate approached me within 5 minutes. Next, while looking at foundations, I noticed that a particular associate stood at the entrance of the aisle I was perusing. Again, I thought it was odd, but I also considered that she might have been positioned there. After a few minutes, I moved to a different aisle and began trying on more foundations. She moved with me, which was strange given that other associates were moving around the store regularly, working. She was looking at product, would not make eye contact with me, and remained in the aisle for the entire time I was trying on products, which was about 5 minutes. At one point I stared at her, and she turned her head away. I was shocked. I placed my products down and walked to the front of the store to order my Uber. *I realize that placing my products down has an insignificant impact on the company, but I was disgusted at that point* Would you believe this woman followed me to the front of the store and stood there! As you will see in the recording below, she stood there on her phone the entire time. This particular Ulta is located on the Magnificent Mile and is frequented by the company's CEO. If this type of behavior is condoned at this location, it must be commonplace. What truly sucks is that the behavior I encountered while shopping yesterday will likely continue, and consumers of color will have little choice but to support such companies. I urge other customers that have experienced similar treatment at this location to speak up and exercise your freedom of speech, one of the few tools you have at your disposal, to condemn the aforementioned behavior. I was in your store on 7/5/2025 making a purchase and while RACHEL began to ring up my item I told her I was not interested in any promotion she stated I needed to clear the screen so she could continue to ring my item, the problem was the options she gave were not there then finally after a couple minutes another associate told me to hit the X and that would clear the screen and RACHEL could ring me up. My problem with RACHEL is she NEVER said anything she just stood there like I was supposed to know and in my opinion the sale took way longer than necessary and my time is valuable now either RACHEL needs some additional training or she should not be at the register. Lastly at the bc end of the day I spend $37.49 so whether or not I decide not to take part in any advertisements or promotions you have should not make any difference on how I'm treated while I'm attempting to make purchase In your store cause there are several other places I could make that purchase and maybe that should be the real value! read more

Came here a couple of months ago, no major complaints from me! They pretty much have all the major brands here - Tarte, Urban Decay, Morphe, Colour Pop, etc. Pretty much all that you need! They also had some sales here on certain items when I came and those deals were honestly too hard to pass on - some sale items were almost 50% off. The service I received was really good. They ran out of some of the brushes I wanted and an employee immediately went to go grab me one and refill their stock. Also had a couple of questions about some items and the employees were friendly and helpful. I came here kinda late in the evening so the cash was pretty slow; there was a decent line up. But the girl at the cash was apologetic about the wait. I could use an Ulta in Canada! read more

I stopped by here with a friend around 3/4PM on a Sunday. I thought all Ulta's were created equal but apparently not. I saw a decent number of employees around the store as we were walking around in search of false lashes and no one greeted us. We had to go ask someone for help and were finally able to locate them. When we went to go pay, there were only 2 people on the registers and it went SO SLOW. When we got in line there were only 4 other people, but with things taking so long a long line quickly built up behind us. After we paid I heard one of the employees on the register desperately ask for someone else to come to the front. Yes, I know there's a sale going on but that doesn't excuse the lack of customer service. There were enough employees in the back milling around to help with the registers before the line got that long. While this Ulta is conveniently located on Michigan Avenue and it does have a good variety of products, I was less than impressed with the customer service going on. The only time I'll be back here is if I already know exactly what I want and have no obligations. When you go to the Salon at Ulta, ask for Zoe. Zoe isn't your aunt's friend or a hairstylist that does it because it's cool or because it's artsy or because beauty school was just an easy out. Zoe is passionate. And she studies her sh!t. You'll often see Zoe recommending products to people and even other clients in the Salon. Why? Because this is her art. It's her passion. And she knows her art better than anyone else. I have heard the weirdest requests of Zoe while I'm in that salon chair, and let me tell you, Zoe has a solution for it all. Here's another thing: Zoe LISTENS. We all know that people perceive us by our physical appearance. We even base our self-confidence on our appearance! Zoe knows this. She will listen and get you the look you want, not just a generic magazine cut-out. My best example: I wanted a change. So I decided to color my hair. I asked Zoe to just "pick any color I could wear to work." I was the canvas, she was the artist. Zoe mixed up a red that complimented the shade of my eyes. She put such detail into the way that it blended, that EVEN OTHER STYLISTS asked if my hair was naturally red. Before that, I was also afraid of coloring my hair, so I asked Zoe for suggestions. She came with with these beautiful subtle highlights that looked naturally sunkissed. I wasn't paid to write this. I'm just Zoe's client. Hell, I'm even at a disadvantage, because the more people that read this, the less Zoe availability in my life. But she's too good not to share. TLDR: Go to this Salon. Ask for ZOE. Change your life. P.S. Jasmine is such a sweetheart and really brightens the Salon. Keep her, she's good, too. read more

Nice store, not as large as some others. I was greeted right away even though it was crowed being a Sunday. I was looking for a specific mascara and asked where it was, the sales associate not only knew of the brand she walked me over to the display which was sadly empty, she very promptly said, let me check stock on it. She came back in a couple of minutes with product in hand. She also informed me that they're having special sales and told me about a product by Murad that she liked and at half off a good deal. I don't wear too much makeup, maybe if I'm going out to dinner, or recently when I got a bit of a sunburn and I was trying to even out my skin-tone. I didn't spend much time looking at make-up however, they seem to have there bases covered. I did spend most of my time looking or shall we say sniffing fragrances, even though I don't use them daily I do like to change them up depending on my mood. Here again, not the largest collection but they have the bases covered. While I wouldn't make this my go to location, if I were nearby and needed something I'd stop in, as this was the case today. This location is great for tourist looking for something a little more upscale than the Walgreen's nearby, or a specific brand they carry. Although the Walgreen's has a decent selection on the second floor, so shop both. But, Ulta is a hometown company too! read more

I recently visited this Ulta store during a vacation to Chicago. I was in need of a new Too Faced foundation, as the one I had brought was a shade too dark for my current skin tone, so I made a special trip from our scheduled plans to make this purchase. Upon return to my hotel room to get ready for dinner, I learned that the foundation that I had purchased was in fact completely EMPTY! It appears that the store had taken a return (without properly inspecting the material) and placed it back on the shelf for resale. I have a couple of issues with this, the most important being that this is extremely unsanitary and completely disgusting! I have heard horror stories about Ulta stores reselling returned/used product, but I NEVER thought that I would be a "victim" to this kind of irresponsible and tacky behavior. I wish I could give it 0 stars. I would rather go to the dentist. 1 start is way too generous. I was going to leave it at that but this story is juicy. This has probably been the worst costumer service I have ever experienced at a beauty place. I was looking for some sort of powder sunscreen and looking around the store. I got distracted and before I knew it, it was 9 PM. I understand the employees frustration at me but their reaction was unwarranted. I decided to go home and come back the next day to purchase the product since the associate notified me that the cashiers were closing and I wanted to take a bit more time to make sure that the product I was buying was what I wanted. After all, it was a $30 sunscreen. Definitely more expensive than most. On my way out I got lost trying to find a napkin to clean my hand from all the products. The associate came yelling at me, "hey! we're are closed! Are you going to buy something?!" when I said no, and that I will be coming tomorrow to purchase it, she yelled again, "then we are closed!" I explained that I was making my way out and that I just wanted to get a napkin to wipe my hands. She aggressively walked to a napkin station handed me one then pointed me to the door. The other employees were smirking. Funny how a customer is getting treated, right? I don't take bad reviews lightly. My mom works in costumer service and I try to bring her good karma. I live close by and mostly come in to pick up online orders or for occasional beauty services. They've changed around the order pickup location a couple of times, but still haven't solved the fundamental issue of needing to staff the pickup booth at all times or at least monitor it. Now the pickup booth is in the back of the store, which has made the situation worse. Every time I've gone to the back to get an order, no one is working there and I either have to wait for 5-10 minutes hoping someone notices me, and/or return to the front of the store and find help. The last time I went in to pick up an order, I had shin splints and was slowly limping back-and-forth across the store trying to find assistance for the pick up booth. There was another couple already there who said they'd been waiting 10 minutes to pickup their order. The associate I flagged down eventually got someone else to come back to help us, and this young woman was nice enough but didn't apologize for the wait or for having to hunt down assistance. To add insult to injury, the pick up booth is basically inside the salon, which is bustling, but the salon workers conspicuously ignore people who are waiting at the pickup booth a few feet away. I'm sure that's not their job, but at the very least they could get on the walkie and alert the front staff that there are people waiting. Regarding beauty services, I had a facial waxing service which was done in the Benefit area right at the front of the store. I felt really self conscious having my upper lip waxed in full view of the checkout line and all of the foot traffic entering and exiting the store, not to mention the giant windows facing out onto Michigan Ave. These services should really be moved to the back by the salon for privacy. read more

Happy to have Ulta back in the Loop but I'm a little surprised at how small this location is. I think I expected more because it's on Michigan Ave. but the ceilings seem pretty low and overall the store feels a bit crammed. Nevertheless, this location is just a few days old so everything is brand spanking new and shiny. I wasn't greeted when I walked in but several employees did offer to help me as I lingered throughout. Ulta doesn't provide samples (like Sephora does) so that's always a tad annoying but you can find just about anything you need here and returns are typically easy and painless. Went in to grab a few things really quick, in the process of smelling a perfume, I accidentally sprayed it in my face and had to take down my mask and wipe it off, Kathryn, a sales associate promptly screamed at me from across the store in an extremely hostile way. I then went to check out (she was the cashier) and she literally said 2 words to me. She was extremely rude, unpleasant and hostile, I never go to this ULTA and I won't be back. They shouldn't probably hire people with such nasty attitudes. She clearly needs a hug. read more

For the Benefit Brow Bar: I had an appointment for brow services. They canceled, the day of, because the associate called in sick. Fine. I reschedule, right then, for a couple days later. same thing. They phone me two hours before my appointment to cancel it because the associate was sick. I had gave up, but then saw an opening A WEEK later, during my lunch hour, perfect, so i made an appointment. Guess what? Yep, they called that morning and again told me the associate was sick! I get life happens, but this is ridiculous. When they asked to reschedule, I said no thanks since this was my third, and final, attempt and no compensation offered, just a flimsy apology. I visited this location today, and I was blown away by the miles and miles of beauty products. I'd imagine this location is like a toy store for us make up enthusiasts. This store has almost every brand of makeup you can think of. From MAC to Colour Pop. I was an awww when I entered the store. It's beautifully lit, but please be warned ...this store is very busy. However, all of the employees are very helpful to the customers. I bought some of the Morphe eyeshadow palletts and brushes, and let's just say I'm a happy customer. I'm not sure if all the Ulta's are like this location, but I'll be shopping here way more often. read more

I am a regular Ulta Beauty shopper, and I was really happy that they opened up a location on Michigan Ave, which is a lot closer to me than the West Loop one. I come here maybe once or twice a month to pick up several supplies and I noticed a size difference between both locations. I was a little surprised to see that the Mag Mile (aka tourist central) location was a lot smaller and can get a lot more crowded during the weekends. The set up is basically the same and they sell most of the major brands that you can think off. I am a little bummed that they don't carry Bobbi Brown. My all time favorite primer and bronzer are Bobbi Brown, so it sucks that I have to go to Sephora or Macy's to get those. There's always discounts and promotions going on, so it's always worth the trip. I've never had any trouble with the employees. I've asked for help twice, once for a hair consult and once when I needed help picking out a foundation color. Jordan helped me out when I had concerns about my hair. My hair is basically heat damaged and I was trying to find new products to help with that. Jordan saw me struggling to pick out hair products, so she approached me and asked if I needed any help. When I told her about my hair situation, she recommended several brands and other things to do in order to regain some health for my hair, and I am really happy she did. A month into using those new products, my hair has never felt healthier and smoother. I will continue to frequent this location because of it's proximity to home and it's convenience. read more

I had selected several items to purchase when I noticed that I was being followed and watched by security. I advised the security guard that I may be a black woman, but am not a thief. I then immediately asked to speak with the manger and told her that I am an attorney, who lives on Lake Shore Drive and do not appreciate being racially profiled. I placed the items that I had planned to purchase down and left the store. Then, while purchasing several items at Wolford, I learned that Ulta regularly profiles certain people and uses cues to ensure that they are racially profiled.
