Our instructor was extremely helpful and informative (they give you a flask of coffee beans in cause you're like me and have to smell every single scent they have). I really love the option to pick what product you want your scent to be. I picked the body butter and my bf picked the body wash. Some of the best body butter I've ever used and it doesn't take much at all. You mainly paying for the product and not so much the experience so it's inexpensive and well worth it. The process was simple to follow, and I loved that there were so many options to choose from when building my personalized perfume. I ended up creating five scent profiles, saved them all, and purchased two during my visit. The staff quickly blended my selections into roller bottles, which I appreciated. My only issue was that the bottles didn't come with labels to differentiate the scents. I worked with one of the staff members to identify which was which, and our workaround was marking one of the bottles with a Sharpie. For the price point, I think a professional label system should be included, it would really elevate the experience. Overall, this was a fun and unique outing, and I'm excited to order my remaining three scents in the future. The reservation was easy to make online. I walk past this place often headed to Ramen San and decided to give it a go after hearing another friend was planning a visit. Overall the staff was super accommodating to shifting our appointment time as needed. The lady helping us was kind and introduced herself. Idk I guess I expected to be a pinch more hands on and feel like I was in a lab myself (Bio major here). I wanted to squeeze and stir but none of that occurred. Our host just asked what we wanted. She didn't go through options with us or show all the products. So we both just said gloss. Being inquisitive I asked what the other two tubes were next to the pink gloss and learned it was shimmer. But this woman gave very little without being prompted. She was kind and polite. Just not very detailed. We were shown a printed color sheet of colors separated by bright, neutrals, deep etc to gage what color family you wanted . We were given a sugar scrub to get our lips ready. Once we picked a starting color she mixed it up. And gave it to us to try out. I felt like she was patient and kind but we were rushed the entire time. I thought it was just me and then my friend said the same thing when our host stepped away and went to have our tubes engraved. More on that later. But lots of room for tube customization. You get to pick your top, tube, and engraving. You also get to pick the scent of your gloss. I was very shocked that my one tube was $55 before tax or tip. I get they have to pay for materials, labor and overhead of the building but goodnesssss. My Dior lip gloss was less than this. Back on being rushed. Do you know at a restaurant when a server checks in every 5 minutes because they want to turn the table? That's how I felt here but THERE WERE OPEN SEATS. It's not like they had a long wait to sit down and get started. We were in and out. The wildest part was after paying, by the time we put our cards up and coats on, the host had her coat on as was WALKING OUT WITH US. Actually before us. That sealed the deal. The storefront itself is stunning, drawing inspiration from Lake Michigan and Chicago's winter and featuring accents of stone, curved shelving, and aluminum. I was in the market for some schmancy hand wash, having tired of my CVS rotation. I'm of the firm opinion that a nicely packaged, great-smelling hand soap can go a long way to instantly elevating one's space and mood. Nicholas greeted me right away and even led me over to the sinks to try out the two options that were available for hand soaps. The Reverence Aromatique handwash ($39) immediately won me over. The subtle lavender scent is amazing, woody and herbal without being cloying. Fyi- the bottles are of a good size, and Nicholas told me that people usually get a season (2 to 3 months) out of a bottle. Considering I can go through a bottle of Dial pump hand soap in two or three weeks, this is good to know. Since my hands have been annoyingly dry, I opted for the Reverence Aromatique duo which contains the handwash and a moisturizing balm. If I had stayed any longer in the store it could have gotten dangerous, but I ended up adding on a small travel kit of samples, including a smaller hand balm to pop in my handbag and a refreshing face mist. I look forward to testing out these little goodies before I commit to any larger sizes. Nicholas was kind enough to include a trial-size shampoo (a new offering) and even misted the bag, which is a cloth, reusable drawstring in line with the store's sustainable ethos. Lately I've not been shopping as much, because I want to make sure that whatever I am bringing into my life will help me feel good all the way through. Shopping at Aesop makes me feel that much closer to becoming a more conscious consumer.
